Yes, alchemical capsules are used up with pistol shots and other special moves BUT unlimited really, as you can buy the capsules. So if you run low, enemy farming will pay dividends twice - once when they drop capsules and the xp they give can be spent buying more capsules. Handy especially as the Alchemist.
All Spiders games are janky but they have a certain charm that keeps you playing, I have played and finished all their games, they are all set in interesting worlds/settings and they just keep you entertained, not the greatest stories, not the greatest gameplay but just interesting and engaging enough to keep you going.
@@gibbit2k496 bound by flame while not perfect had also some cool ideas imo and technomancer looked really awesome but played like 💩🤷♂️ Greedfall was good Pre ordered this one looks the best one yet!
Excellent review as usual wolf! I'm not big into steampunk/automata. If this was a Primal pre-modern man setting, I'd jump at this game. What I like about your reviews is the in depth and often understanding of different player mentalities/playstyles and how the game might affect them. Seriously I'd have no idea about these games unless you do a review.
Thanks Sesimie. Totally understand. I am also not usually big into steampunk/automata, but this games "historical" ties pulled me in. Anything that takes place prior to the 1900s always catches my eye!
Thanks for the thorough overview. After also reading the Kotaku first impressions, I like the idea of adjusting some character options in lieu of an "easy mode." It makes this a more likely purchase for me once the price drops or the game gets expanded. I completed Dark Souls 1 & 2 and repeatedly dying got old.
I've had fun with Bound by Flame and especially Greedfall, even though both had their flaws. This looks interesting enough to give it a go as well. I can live without AAA bells and whistles when the game makes up for it in abmition and creativity.
Great review, sounds like it's very... Spiders. I hope they optimise, but it won't surprise me if they don't. I felt like Greedfall was overpriced at release (same price as this one), but with a discount to $30 I feel like I got better than I paid for. It feels like their games would be better served with a $40 price tag in general. I've seen too many people wait for bigger discounts than just the $40 price point they'd have paid as a release-day price, because the game felt overpriced at $50 and they didn't want to pay that much. I don't expect the publisher to trust the impression I've gotten from their products, but I honestly think the game would make more money if they cut $10 of the base price. Probably too late on this one, but maybe next time?
When Spiders gets more experience and more budget I could easily see them becoming like Bioware when they were putting out Mass Effect and Dragon Age Orgins
My issue with comments like these is that they fall in line with that's killing the gaming industry, lack of innovation. It's crazy how much gamers keep looking to the past, yet complain when all they get are sequels, remasters, and reboots.
Such a great & entertaining review! Lots of useful info, very well-structured, and some giggles here and there. Loved it! 😂🕷🐺 After a while, I stopped noticing the (awful) face animation in Greedfall. Everything else was entertaining enough to make up for it. It sounds like it's the same for this game. I think Spiders has a lot of potential. I hope they grow enough to have proper animations.
Thanks Lara. Yea facial animations are not enough to make me personally hate a game if the actual gameplay & story itself is decent. Some of my fav games have the worst animations know to man haha. Hope you enjoy your playthrough and thanks again for using the GOG link.
If the first boss is tree sentinel or margit, I can almost guarantee you were under leveled in Elden ring. If your up to it, try exploring southern and tye western side of limgrave and level up a bit before you try and take on the bosses….they made the early and late bosses harder in my opinion.
Yeah, level up a bit before you quit ER. Also, you can always just summon help and get carried through practically the entire game so you get to at least experience it, even if you play very defensively. There’s a whole community waiting to be summoned and help you. Don’t quit.
I'm the same, loved Greedfall but suck at souls games. I'm going to give this a go, mostly since it's on the "easier" side and has options to reduce the difficulty so I'm pretty much sure I could still finish the game even if I get "stuck" playing at the normal difficulty.
I want Souls like games to go back to being a Niche. Please let that trend die fast🙌🏽. I support all Spider games so I will be buying this one as well. However kinda hope Spider starts fine tuning what they're good at and stops with all the different IPs . Polish a series first. I would love another Technomancer. However Greedfall looks like it might be the game they're banking on.
I realy hope they learn from misstakes they made here, for their work they put into GreedFall 2 :D I realy liked the world they made there. For this game I dont feel any draw to this one, even tho I own all DS games and ER. Tho I am a magic lover hehe, or Guts type of build. None I get in this game from what I have seen.
Good review, but when youre mentioning performance you should really mention what resolution youre playing at otherwise the rest of the details you give arent very useful (unless I missed it) lol. I assume you were gaming at 1080p?

Hard to give this game anymore than a 5/10 in my opinion. The game is heavily buggy, sometimes you have to wait 30 seconds for the levels to fully load in textures, sometimes they don’t at all, get stuck falling through objects, hit detection is all over the place, etc. The performance is also really bad, even on high end rigs. Definitely the most unoptimised game I have played in a long time.
Hi Wolf! A game with a female robot protagonist set during the French revolution? Oh, if there was only romance and I didn't have a huge list of games (7) that I would like to go through first, I'd say this is the perfect game for me! Also, this game feels more like a $30 game to me. When I was little, I started writing about a female robot, so I might get this game in the future.
I don't know like the combat the weapons are to me very poor I wish they would have had a big sword also jumping is too floty environments are interesting once I've completed it it's getting traded in can't bring myself to play a second time
I don't play "souls like" games with easy modes...If you can SELECT an easy mode before playing the game, it isn't a "Souls game" AT ALL. That should be part of the definiton. Totally puts me off of buying this game.
