I'm glad indie devs like spiders are still going strong because they might make a lot of janky games but you can't deny they have a lot of passion to make something different I finished Steelrsing 2 days after its release (including all side quests) and although I enjoyed the gameplay and its story the difficulty scaling was beyond bad. Great game, loved it, one of the best games I've played in years. My biggest gripe is the fact that there is no French dub. I am a French speaker, so it would have made perfect sense to play the game in French considering the setting.
Even though I just bought it today this will be one of the first games I've technically pre-ordered in ages. Hope it doesn't disappoint, at least I got that 2 hour refund window if it does.
@@EndymionTv yeah it looks unique enough for me to enjoy it. Kinda makes me think of it as a Souls Lite more than a Souls Like but in a lot of cases that's a good thing
Nice review! Game looks cool, but there's something about its movement that feels really off to me. I don't want to say too much hitstun because even the air dash pauses for a really long time. Anyway, good luck with King's Fall!
She moves a little odd animation wise cause she’s an automaton. So her joints are animated to reflect that. Don’t worry the actual game is just as fluid as any other
In short, this is the most competent "souls like" since I played Nioh and Code Vein. While not perfect, it's supremely satisfying and even impressive in some ways
I think about the french accents the reason probably is they couldn't find either french voice actors or anyone who could do a decent french accent as many french people can't speak English at all or well enough.
Could be, but I believe canadian voice actors are usually hired in those cases, so maybe the english accent with peppering of french words is a deliberate choice.
there is no NG+ and after finishing it on 100% in 16 hours i can't really say it's worth 50€.... at least i bought it on greenmangaming for 36€. and if it was on steam/consoles for 35-40€ i think that would be good, but 50€ for A - AA game is too much.
I wish the performance was 1440 and 60fps on os5, but other than that, I have nothing to complain about. people say it's too slow, but there are allot of weapons that change that really fast. add in the parry and it's a damn solid game
Looks incredible and your biggest problem are the British accents lol Would you pefer a 'Mr Bean phoney French accent'. The only people playing this in French wil be the French or French speaking countries. We're playing a game with robots in 18th century France lol I wouldn't give it too much thought...they could have American accents.....the acting has to be good however.
I have never been so glad that I am not a native English speaker who can identify different accents. As long as the acting is not so bad that me with my half ass English can notice, its all just "English" to me. Makes me enjoy way more low budget games with immersion breaking accent than others. I call it a win. Lol.
Nah just that they should have French accents at least. I mean imagine playing Assassin’s Creed Origins & they have British accents you’d be like wtf Actually Cleopatra has a British accent in that game now that I think about it lol
@@EndymionTv Well having an accent doesn't have the same sense as speaking another language. When speaking english with a foreign accent can't be justified ingame, better to immerse the player in a kind of consensual speech, there's already enough hints of where the action takes place. Ideally offer a full local voice acting in the rare cases the funds are available, but frankly accented english is just exoticism of poor taste in my evaluation. Must be a cultural thing. Anyway thank you for your review, very well constructed, informative and enjoyable.
I was hype for greedfall when the trailer dropped played it had a blast when I saw this game I was hype because of spiders studio and I don't play many soul games but see how you can adjust the setting to fit your play style I'm game
Thymesia was a great game imo and now we have yet another good Soulslike Steelrising. Along with Lies of P, we Soulslike fans eating pretty good. 🔥 Oh and great review btw sir thank you.
I definitely think this review hypes up the game more then it is after playing it on ps plus. I know people clowned ign for saying 6 but that seems fair
I had 2 crashes on ps5 but neither were progress losing, the ppl look weird af as well. Overall I must say I really enjoy it so far. I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys "souls-likes".
Hmmm.. So are the different " levels " connected via open world? or are all locations separated and force fast traveling with the map? ... Game looks like it turned out pretty cool, I been waiting a long time for it to release.
I played Spiders last game Greedfall and while I had a moderate amount of fun with it, the game drags on to an unreasonable degree with excessive padding. Hopefully they learned their lesson and trimmed this down to be lean and mean.
This doesn’t have any padding main story wise. Side quests do take you back to levels but they open up more with new areas via metroidvania elements so it’s fine
I will never understand why people complain about the length of a video game. You're getting more for your money and it bothers me when games are short. Anything under 30 hours should not be full price. Not that this game is but my point is I like to enjoy a game not burn through it. I don't know I guess it's the reason I still buy physical. I want something for my money and paying $70 for a game like Rift apart where you can platinum in 12 hours is unacceptable in my opinion. I don't care how good it looks or how good the gameplay is. That's way too much money for a short DLC
@@robk5437 If you think I'm complaining about the length of the game then you missed the point. It's not the amount of hours I had a problem with, though it was a factor, it was that much of that time spent was on pointless busy work. Talk to npc, now go to a town halfway across the map to talk to another npc. Once you do that, come back to original npc to complete part 1 of the quest, and on and on and on. Too much of the game is filled with needless tasks like that that do nothing but extend what should've been a nice 16-20 hour rpg package into a 45 hour slogfest it had no right in being. My issue is pacing, and Greedfall has some terrible pacing. Likewise assuming that your getting more "value" out of a game simply because it is longer is a lie. A game that takes 100+ hours to finish but is dull for 90% of it isn't a bargain, it's a scam. I've replayed Dead Space 2 dozens of times, and that only takes roughly 7-10 hours to complete and yet that was a much better experience throughout that Greedfall simply wasn't. Again, it's not an issue of time, but an issue of pacing.
Yes, I would say surprising. I didn't even know this game existed till like a couple days ago and, I was like okay why haven't heard of this game? However, when heard it's souls like gameplay I was like ok have to play it now. After all beat, dark souls 1-3, Ashen, code vein, remnant of the ashes. However, sadly internet down loading is not at best today, so I'm waiting...
Other then the frequent skipping and frame drops, this is the best non souls souls likes I've ever played, finally they got the combat right l, closest to Bloodborne, I don't like how bosses have that glowing smoke but only this and mortal shell got it 95% right
So I'm not very good at the souls like games I've tried a couple of them I seen this game and it looks amazing planned on getting it but after your review I went ahead and bought it thanks for the help you make this game so hype for me
Me as a new souls player was complete shit at the start when i first played elden ring (my first souls game) I'm at Ng+3 i never thought I'd get this far, elden ring imo Is a good introduction to the souls world. Elden ring is definitely game of the year material
Is this game UE4 based? It looks it. If so how is the input lag and overall control feel? I've never been able to enjoy UE based soulslikes because something always feels wonky with the controls. I really wanted to love Mortal Shell but it just didn't feel right.
Tbh, adding difficulty sliders ((or a version of (i.e. not losing exp, etc)) is a very real turn off for me. For instance, Sifu. I absolutely loved it. I got distracted by ER, and apparently, they add a difficultly slider. I haven't been back since. Again, just my opinion, but I feel it adds variables into the intended exp that hurt more times than help. Also, have you not played Nioh /2? It's easily the greatest 'souls like' ever made. The combat is, legit, second to none. The stamina regen thing, is called a Ki pulse. Team Ninja did it first
I’m curious why would you stop playing a game cuz they added more difficulties for people who can’t play hard games? I can’t play them too? That’s not fair lol
Have you played nioh 2 ? I have more hours in it than i have in all souls games combined and even tho i love FS games so much nioh 2's combat is much more fun and deep. I'm super excited for the next team ninja game, wo long fallen dynasty is apperantly their version of sekiro ( but also character creation, coop and 7+ weapon types ) imo one thing that team ninja always did better than FS was the combat
Gotta agree that nioh 2 has technically the best and deepest combat out of any soulslike. However the design leans more into having a million systems instead of keeping the concepts simple and applying them in intricate ways.
Wish the was more outfit variety. All armor is just reskins of the same design except for hats. The lack of symmetry in the footwear is also frustrating.
Reskin? Dude they look different and have different specs. I suppose to you a three piece coat in bow is the same as long sleeve and tie .... and a dress is a dress regardless of cuts, styling and length eh?
Really interested in this game, but have a huge backlog. Also they have priced it at 60 Euros not 40 (Dollar and Euro usually the same). Will pick this up in a sale probably or after seein a lot of hype online
Two bloodborne-likes for 2023? Hell yeah! I just hope this game has rapiers, cus fuckin baroque france and no rapiers would be very sad. The rapid cooling kinda looks like the nioh ki pulse.
I played the Trial.. I was pretty disappointed with the experience. This game felt janky AF.. I feel like this game was rushed out and needed another few months of development. I don't know if much changed since the games release.. I was far more pleased with the surprise of Remnant From the Ashes. -- I may give this game another look.. but there's a multitude of titles like out now, and a bunch more on the way. I'll be more annoyed by these companies half-azzing a Souls-like title just to have their IP released around interests in Souls-like games.
NOT GONNA LIE this is borederline improvement from Souls like.. so I can consider it as "SEKIRO-LIKE". TODAY guys we are witnessing Evolution. BRO it's technically a 9/10 by now since they can just patch those problems up. This should get a lot of playerbase support too. We need more games like this. I can feel how good it is by just watching it lol.
The biggest surprise with this game is the poor performance on PC. I still don't understand where all the resources go into. Playing it with an acceptable look makes it hard to get stable 60 FPS in 2k resolution (i7-8700k, RTX3080ti). You wonder why at times when looking at what's actually represented on screen during those low FPS. The usual suspects (raytracing/shadows) hit half as hard as you'd suspect, animated foliage does far more and DLSS doesn't offer the quite the boost you're used from other games. I hope they fix this, the game itself has an interesting setting and artwork and is great fun when running smooth.
I like this game and I also Kinda don't like it. I don't know what it is about the visuals but I feel like it could have looked a lot better with a slightly bigger budget just feels like its missing some polish in the presentation, models look great but maybe some different kind of rendering technique and maybe a little more color because everything looks very grey/brown/sepia. I may check it out at some point tho.
i see in every video about a game review now someone commenting on IGN😂 Honestly it seems they like something if theyre paid to They gave the far cry 6 dlcs 5s and 6s. But i actually thought they were better than that. I like the Vaas one. His saying is doing the same thing again is the definition of insanity, and at the ending you choose to leave the loop or stay to do the same thing. I just thought this was clever. Cool gameplay too Ign clearly just rush a game to push a review before they actually get to enjoy it
8.5/10 is very generous for this game, I think IGN giving it a 6/10 is right on the money for the problems the game suffers. Don’t get me wrong, gameplay is solid and fluid, but far too easy to break the game with a dancer/immobilise build and defeat every boss in under a minute. And the game is extremely buggy, textures constantly wouldn’t load in at all, or would take a full minute to load into the game world. Got stuck multiple times on objects, clipped through the map, etc.
Just be warned it's French as hell. You'd think people would get this but apparently not. From the one playthrough I've played it doesn't explore the robots, how they work, how they came about, or much involving them. I think there's one quest line that kinda talks about them? But that's it. So if you're not interested in the French revolution but robots you're going to have a hard time with the story.

Great game, loved it, one of the best games I've played in years. My biggest gripe is the fact that there is no French dub. I am a French speaker, so it would have made perfect sense to play the game in French considering the setting.
Love me some creative robot designs, I’ll need to play this while I wait for Lies of P
Just watched your soulstice review as I've picked it up and this review just now, you're great man! Subbed 🤙
Even though I just bought it today this will be one of the first games I've technically pre-ordered in ages. Hope it doesn't disappoint, at least I got that 2 hour refund window if it does.
I think you’ll enjoy it more than you think
@@EndymionTv yeah it looks unique enough for me to enjoy it. Kinda makes me think of it as a Souls Lite more than a Souls Like but in a lot of cases that's a good thing
I was lucky, 2 days ago found it at $1.89.
I'm loving it
Nice review! Game looks cool, but there's something about its movement that feels really off to me. I don't want to say too much hitstun because even the air dash pauses for a really long time. Anyway, good luck with King's Fall!
Character's animations are all nervous aside from the walking speed so it feels like she's dragging her feet and suddenly going full sprint
She moves a little odd animation wise cause she’s an automaton. So her joints are animated to reflect that. Don’t worry the actual game is just as fluid as any other
@@EndymionTv not from the reviews I’ve seen. Most say the combat is still and janky
@@PeopleRTheProblem combat is actually really good. Feels way better than it looks.
In short, this is the most competent "souls like" since I played Nioh and Code Vein. While not perfect, it's supremely satisfying and even impressive in some ways
So it's got Ki pulse from Nioh and Caryll Rune buffs from Bloodborne. Both lovely soulslike features.
I never skip a Spiders game!
Euro games FTW
Thank you for this review. I was on the fence, but I bought it after watching your video. ;)
Best review I have seen of this game that’s convinced me to get it. TY
I’m not a souls and souls-like fan, but this game looked interesting to me so at some point I will try it out.
I tried many games after Black Myth Wukong and Steelrising is the only one get me addicted.
I think about the french accents the reason probably is they couldn't find either french voice actors or anyone who could do a decent french accent as many french people can't speak English at all or well enough.
i'm french and this seems the more plausible explanation to me as well :)
Could be, but I believe canadian voice actors are usually hired in those cases, so maybe the english accent with peppering of french words is a deliberate choice.
Why in the hell did they use full English voice acting but with random French phrases inserted into the English speech?!
there is no NG+ and after finishing it on 100% in 16 hours i can't really say it's worth 50€.... at least i bought it on greenmangaming for 36€. and if it was on steam/consoles for 35-40€ i think that would be good, but 50€ for A - AA game is too much.
I absolutely love your videos man! Keep up the great work!!
I mean imagine playing Assassin’s Creed Origins & they have British accents you’d be like wtf
Actually Cleopatra has a British accent in that game now that I think about it lol
I absolutely love this game! Got it for pc & just got it for ps5 aswel!
So sad the Lies of P took the spotlight away from it, looks fun! I’ll get it someday, I need to finish some stuff from my backlog first
Thymesia was a great game imo and now we have yet another good Soulslike Steelrising. Along with Lies of P, we Soulslike fans eating pretty good. 🔥 Oh and great review btw sir thank you.
Thymesia was a fun time, I think Steelrising is better tho IMO and thank you!
@@EndymionTv that's great to know. Can't wait to play it then.
Steelrising is a good introduction for Nioh imo the cooling system is a good way to get the ropes on ki restoration in nioh.
What about the story? Is it good or bad?
Looks very cool ,
nice it's not another medieval fantasy setting.
Omelette au Fromage Esti !
It’s a good game
Best game I played this year. Loved everything about it, finished it twice. In game plus you'll get cool new enemies and weapons.
I definitely think this review hypes up the game more then it is after playing it on ps plus. I know people clowned ign for saying 6 but that seems fair
I HATE Souls-like games…..but LOVE this one!!! Not sure why. Just clicked with me.
I’m glad you are enjoying it!
I'm really impressed with whats on offer from this game, so imaginative!!! 👍🏿👍🏿
I don't know why the accent bothers you. Jean Luc Picard is the most British French man ever and no one dared give him shit.
I had 2 crashes on ps5 but neither were progress losing, the ppl look weird af as well. Overall I must say I really enjoy it so far. I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys "souls-likes".
cant wait till steel and lies of p characters are joined with other souls protags in fan art
Hmmm.. So are the different " levels " connected via open world? or are all locations separated and force fast traveling with the map? ... Game looks like it turned out pretty cool, I been waiting a long time for it to release.
Each level is its own contained level. And you fast travel between them but they are all pretty big and diverse
This game had no promotion, ghost release. I'll get it for a sale for $20-$30 by blackfriday
Marketing costs a lot of $. Not a big studio.
Well I’m the promo I guess lol so enjoy it and support smaller studios!
Yeah because this is the second time Iv'e heard of this game since the reveal trailer
Other then the frequent skipping and frame drops, this is the best non souls souls likes I've ever played, finally they got the combat right l, closest to Bloodborne, I don't like how bosses have that glowing smoke but only this and mortal shell got it 95% right
So I'm not very good at the souls like games I've tried a couple of them I seen this game and it looks amazing planned on getting it but after your review I went ahead and bought it thanks for the help you make this game so hype for me
I’m happy this review helped you out, enjoy the game! 🤘🏻🔥
Me as a new souls player was complete shit at the start when i first played elden ring (my first souls game) I'm at Ng+3 i never thought I'd get this far, elden ring imo Is a good introduction to the souls world. Elden ring is definitely game of the year material
Is it historically accurate?
Is this game UE4 based? It looks it. If so how is the input lag and overall control feel? I've never been able to enjoy UE based soulslikes because something always feels wonky with the controls. I really wanted to love Mortal Shell but it just didn't feel right.
It’s very responsive & tight to play. I think it’s made with the Silk Engine??
Well done bro im always looking for more soulsbournes 👍
Thank you!
Souls like. Good or bad. I'm in........
You’ll like it!
Is there side quests or collectable lore?
Wish the was more outfit variety. All armor is just reskins of the same design except for hats. The lack of symmetry in the footwear is also frustrating.
Reskin? Dude they look different and have different specs. I suppose to you a three piece coat in bow is the same as long sleeve and tie .... and a dress is a dress regardless of cuts, styling and length eh?
Really interested in this game, but have a huge backlog. Also they have priced it at 60 Euros not 40 (Dollar and Euro usually the same). Will pick this up in a sale probably or after seein a lot of hype online
That’s fine get through the backlog!!!!
@@EndymionTv cheers! Just finished my Ghost of Tsushima plat and on to Fallen Order next. Thanks for the great video btw
It's because the British/English accent and language is cool! That is why it is spoken all over planet earth.🤪
Two bloodborne-likes for 2023? Hell yeah!
I just hope this game has rapiers, cus fuckin baroque france and no rapiers would be very sad.
The rapid cooling kinda looks like the nioh ki pulse.
I see mixed reviews in Steam and that's due to the game not being optimized in PC. I'd like to see a review/comment from a PC gamer. 🙂
I played the Trial..
I was pretty disappointed with the experience.
This game felt janky AF.. I feel like this game was rushed out and needed another few months of development.
I don't know if much changed since the games release..
I was far more pleased with the surprise of Remnant From the Ashes.
--
I may give this game another look.. but there's a multitude of titles like out now, and a bunch more on the way.
I hope they fix this, the game itself has an interesting setting and artwork and is great fun when running smooth.
this is such a cool game i was so sad it needs an RTX
I like this game and I also Kinda don't like it. I don't know what it is about the visuals but I feel like it could have looked a lot better with a slightly bigger budget just feels like its missing some polish in the presentation, models look great but maybe some different kind of rendering technique and maybe a little more color because everything looks very grey/brown/sepia. I may check it out at some point tho.
Still needs a patch or two , I’ve had so many crashes during my playthrough
i see in every video about a game review now someone commenting on IGN😂
Honestly it seems they like something if theyre paid to They gave the far cry 6 dlcs 5s and 6s. But i actually thought they were better than that. I like the Vaas one. His saying is doing the same thing again is the definition of insanity, and at the ending you choose to leave the loop or stay to do the same thing. I just thought this was clever. Cool gameplay too
Ign clearly just rush a game to push a review before they actually get to enjoy it
a soulslike with difficulty settings?! and it doesnt ruin the game?! fanboys are not gonna like this
Lol it’s fine
this looks very cool.
That's great! 🧡🙏🏼
Good video.
Steelrising 2 speculation going around.
