10 MIN Total Abs + Core | Beginner Friendly Summer Workout | Dumbbell Optional

  • A short 12 set, complete 10 minute core workout to strengthen the upper, lower abs, obliques and rectus abdominis (6 pack): first half on the mat, second half standing. Use this as a finisher or as part of an active rest day with a stretching or mobility session. The exercises are straightforward so this is a beginner-friendly routine. I am using a dumbbell for added resistance but bodyweight is, as always, an option. If it becomes difficult to keep your abs engaged and core tight (think naval to spine), drop the weight and concentrate on form, particularly focus on slowing down the lowering/lengthening (eccentric) portion of any of the moves.
    ✦Format: 40 sec work, 10 sec rest
    ✦Equipment: mat, 1 light-medium dumbbell (5-10lb) optional
    ✦Exercises include: toe touch crunch, 1 arm dumbell crunch, heel touch ab extension, oblique 3 way crunch, DB hold leg lower, standing cross crunch, standing oblique crunch, discus throw
