My friend group really likes 40k but we have been expanding to games like shatter point and conquest honestly. The alternating activations is really nice.
Why Kill Team releases instead of general purpose 40K releases? Because you can charge $10-$15 more for the $1 accessory sprue!

Season 3 is shaping up to be rough.
I'm actually OK with having some more uniform teams, Kill Team is my main game but having different rules for every model does get a bit unwieldy/tricksy. One of the strengths of the original Compendium teams is they're very straightforward to play. Will be interesting to see if Discourse is right and this becomes the norm though, which would be disappointing. I do hope we get more weird Kill Teams that wouldn't really fit in a 40k army.
As a Warcry fan I felt so much dread about the Killteam part, cause that's exactly what's started to happen with Warcry and AoS too (Chameleon Skinks, Ogor Gougers, new Lumineth) it really feels like "models made for AoS we forced to be a Warcry warband" rather then "Warcry models we gave AoS rules too"
I also think a part of it is that they want people to play multiple game systems and "upgrade" to the big army game. It's what I've done going from Underworlds to Warcry to AoS
And then the rules for the Warcry to AoS units SUUUUUUCK in AOS.
After watching this I turned to look at my bought on day 1 release warp spiders, wipe away a tear and whisper to them maybe next edition.......

As someone who has a lot of Dark Eldar I'm very interested in a Dark Eldar video from you. I was talking to a guy who owns a local store to me and both of us think Kill Team misses the mark and was/is a lost opportunity. Combat Patrol is probably similar. These should be hooks that get people into 40K but instead they become their own monstrosity and destroy their own potential.
I disagree because not everyone wants to play in army sized games. Some people like the 40k universe but only want to play skirmish (Kill Team) or platoon (Combat Patrol) sized games. They don't want to spend an entire evening playing 1 game, but instead be able to get 3 - 4 games played.
Agreed. GW is so obsessed with using Kill Team and Combat Patrol as opportunities to sell the next overpriced box set, they're making it harder for them to do their actual job as intros to their respective games.
@@JMcMillen They don't have to. Even if Kill Team was a hook not everyone will or has to bite. Will I play Kill Team as it is now? No. Would I if they weren't trying to gauge me in every facet of the universe? Yes. I would really like a low investment Skirmish game as much for the reasons you've stated.

Would be interested to hear your views on why some of the most iconic factions are excluded from The “new” Old World! I certainly don’t believe any of the official reasons given!

The worst part about a box of Nighthaunts and Elves is that when you have fumbly fingers like I do, it just leads to frustration and a bunch of broken spindly bits during assembly. At least stormcasts are chunky.

I felt Discourse looking through my phone's camera at me when she mention the Mordian Glory subscribers. But she also identified why I'm not buying the new Sola auxilia. Also the return of the old world will hopefully mean I get to put my Tomb Kings on the table more often instead.

@@majbloodnokyou don’t have to own any of the dawnbringer books to play matched play, all you need are the core rules which are free on the app, the season rules (which you don’t need unless you’re playing competitive), and your own rule book for your faction. So technically you only need 1 book.
@@NexUtInfinitus Yeah I don't get this 'I have to buy the new book to play the game.' No you don't. I played Space Marines last edition with just the space marine codex. I encountered someone else doing the same. You can just have the rulebook for the system, an army book (or just the rulebook, if it's Legions Imperialis!) and you're good.
It's not that Mandrakes needed a model update - they needed a material update. Finecast is terrible and they're moving away from it and going to plastic. Putting them in KT isn't a big deal. It allows them to release various units that need updates here and there outside of their codex release. They always release them as stand alone kit later but that should happen at the same time as the KT box (KT box so you can get the KT rules for them or whatever.

The absolute worst part of them doing new releases via Kill Team is how temporary they are. Remember when they made a big noise just before Christmas about the launch of the new Striking Scorpions kill team? Well, following on from that, they've now removed them entirely from the GW webstore. You can't buy striking scorpions for Kill Team, you can't buy them for 40K and even the old resin minis have been scrubbed from the website. Getting a new plastic kill team kit hasn't even been a soft launch for them in mainstream 40K, they've just gone.
And yeah, I'm sure they'll bring them back at some point, but in the meantime it is literally impossible to buy one of the mainline close combat units for Eldar via Games Workshop. Ebay or third party sellers are literally your only option.
As an Eldar Player I feel this. (Fortunately ETSY has some good proxies)

Hell, I will never understand why Games Workshop hates options so much. I loved the previous edition of Kill Team, and then they streamlined it with the new edition, removing a lot of options and a lot of fun. The only reason I buy a kill team kit now is for the models, and even those would be so much better if they had options.

I like the design of the old Mandrakes. The big problem was the Failcast.
Excellent Batman the Animated Series reference but onto the Old World launch issues. There are resin minis that are available to the rest of the world (from what I have seen) that aren't available to those in North America (Handmaiden of the Lady, Questing Knight Paladin with Great Weapon and Battle Standard Bearer Mounted and on Foot for Bretonnia). Not to mention the delay due to awful weather at the only distribution centre for all of North America in Mephis, TN. I think that the availability of models to meet the demand is going to be another problem for people looking to buy into TOW or augment their forces with GW models. Having said that, 3D printing and proxxies exist so that should be helpful for everyone interested in getting in games.

This just seems like regular GW. It took how long for Tyranid models to get individual releases? They seem to like to wait 6-9 months before taking them out of just the giant box sets

I HATE how the third season of Kill Team is going.
The factions of seasons 1 and 2 were completely unexplored or long forgotten factions, all with enormous variety and charisma. Krieg, Arbites, Imperial Army... The factions of Season 3 are old Warhammer 40,000 units and are designed more to appeal to Warhammer 40,000 players than Kill Team players.
The game is slowly going back to being that watered down version of Warhammer 40,000 with fewer miniatures and that sucks.
Love the kroot, but GW isn't getting a dollar more from me with their pricing and practices.
I can easily imagine how you was an incredible Emokid or whatever they’re called, obviously I am too old to know, I wish I space in my brain to be involved in the Old World which I know as Fantasy Battle and will stay within the realms of Blood Bowl as I feel safe there and don’t want to be disappointed in the game I have never played before and I don’t want to lose money in a game where disappointed is the only natural conclusion 😢

I remember talking to a GW store employee when Kill Team was a Black Library game. They told me that it was a game to use models that you already had, in a new way. Kind of an opposite scale of Armageddon. Instead of bringing ALL of your models, you brought a smaller amount an constructed unique squads, using the points cost in the existing codices. It was great! I spent a lot of time buying models I wouldn't have otherwise bought, because we were going to do a weird Kill Team "event" a time or two. These newer releases just feel weird to me. Sure, call me old, but being "forced" to expand my collection in order to play, rather than using what I've already spent money on is just bad, to me. I understand the corporate and business/profit justifications. I just find those justifications lacking.
They want the "hobby" to be less about "hobbying" and more about buying. If you look at the old 3rd edition codices you'll see a bunch of custom build models. These days everything is a mini they sell.

I was wondering what was being pixelated on the crone miniature and so I went looking for it, unedited. Feet? Really? Oh wait, it's Na Morrigan. My daughter would totally dig that. We could get it for her, my wife could paint it, and my daughter could put it on her altar... "...part of a boxset..." Oh well, fuck that then.
I really like the Solar Auxilia boxset. I might pick that up some day if I ever want to jump into Horus Heresy but for now I will stick to learning 10th with my Dark Angels. I do agree with you on the boxset release model. I don't like how long GW takes with individual releases. I am waiting for the Ballistus dread to be released as a multi-part kit and the scouts.
That is not a Sentinel. That's an industrial heavy lifter hastily retrofited into a sentinel.

You don’t need to buy any of the Dawnbringer books, unless you want to use something inside of them. None of them have extra battle tactics and grand strategies for regular armies only the army of renown in the book

Whats even funnier is, that during the Boarding Patrol phase (i call it a phase, because GW immediately dropped the whole setting) they put the kill teams in those boxes. Hell i got the Imperial one and now have 20 Breachers and i sold the other stuff, so i only paid around 40€ for 2 Breacher Kits.
I love the solar auxillia. I am certain that I am never going to collect them, I can't afford a fourth army; but I absolutely love the design.
9:35 not just that, but can't be bought in it either (due to stocking levels). My main birthday present was meant to be the tomb kings box set. My dad had placed the preorder... It's yet to arrive and when I rang up to find out what was happening I was told it won't be shipped for a few more days. The release date was nearly a week ago now.

T'au player here. Already have my kroot hounds (love them). I am really looking forward to the Kroot Rampagers. They're the start of changing T'aus identity on the table top. And I am here for it.
The issue is like you said, the bundle box. I am not really interested in the rest of it. Other than the special looking codex. So now, I will have to either fight scalpers. Pay them, or wait an entire year or two. To even be able to get the Rampagers that I want. So, while I should be excited. I am already pissed wondering how bad they're going to fumble this.

I like the fact when they do these new bundles for kroot deathwing etc they are bundled together the old world stuff will probably get units released separately as time goes on look at the tombguard either that or they release battalion box set for each faction will all the core plastics

Yeah. Its clear they are doing this to make sure they can up charge you for new miniatures up front. They want their ROI right now instead of hoping enough players will buy a box by itself even if it would be less money. Which is probably why its all these "niche" unit in a faction. Im fairly sure we will find in the future that these particular models will be mostly worthless on the table aside from lore reasons and cool factor. Im also fairly sure the reason they decided to use kill team also was the fact its already a niche game to them but good enough to test buyer response and show that kill team sells better then it would otherwise. A good number of people buying these models probably will never actually use them in kill team.
Dropping refreshed 40k squads into killteam is a brilliant idea, they should do the same in quest to fluff up the single unit problem you had with old world.
This way if you want a certain squad you can, without buying a boxset or blisters of 2-3 minis like we used to.
For killteam or quest it would let you acquire eneny squads.

I'm holding my judgment on the Mandrake Kill Team until they release more information. I saw plenty of knee-jerk reactions to the Striking Scorpion Kill Team followed by "What? I can take Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees as well?". So maybe Mandrakes won't be the only thing you can have in your Kill Team.

I've always been an Orc kind of Boy (see what I did there?). Love the old Orcs, but my Orcs are now entirely the 3D printed Orcs from Avatars of War.

Missed an opportunity when mentioning new Kroot models to call them Kroot recruits
My first thought when I saw the Imperial Guard for HH was that they looked like retro sci-fi troops. Like Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Radar Men From the Moon; 19-30K. The Sentinel is too top heavy, I think a great kit-bash would be to give it four legs for a more stable firing platform.
Money is tight, so I thought I’d take a year off from GW. I got a load of BB teams to paint, and meanwhile North Star and Wargames Atlantic boxes = So. Much. Value.
I was also looking at Warp Miniatures “ArcWorlde” with its free pdf rules, print and play starter, and small warband boxes. It’s on the more expensive side, but I like the old school look and unique character of the models. Then I read the rules for the Dark Lord where you can cast a “monologue”. Either role a dice, if you’re boring, or make a speech about how you’ll crush your enemies and subjugate the free world. If other players find it suitable megalomaniac enough, then you successfully cast the skill. It’s almost like your supposed to have fun….. 😂
P.S. The Red Makers “Solar Guard” look way better in my opinion, with more modularity. Just saying…..

I agree with you on kill team, it's a shame they aren't using it to showcase new xenos races and obscure stuff that doesn't suit 40k. They kinda started doing that a little by drip feeding Agents of the imperoum stuff (navy and arbites) or lost and the damned (beastmen, traitor guard) but seem to of given up with it now.
So true. Kill team would be a great vehicle to showcase the weirder parts of 40k. We could get a Sslyth, Barghesi or Loxatl kill team.

Hopefully new Kroot means new Kroot Hounds, Knarloc, Great Knarloc, and the less common kindred (stalker, hunter, tracker, and vulture) from 3rd (and booby traps too)
I've never bought the kill team boxes. Gw's a little too late with the night lords since I've already done a legionaries team with third party night lords bits that look leaps and bounds better than their upcoming sprue

Old World is about nostalgia and letting people get their hands on old school models. I brought those old orc models when I was 14 and loved them and I’ll buy them again at 34 and love it again!
