Just wish I could get it to real time Boolean for objects with some interior geometry below the origin of the object, so I can place it just right before actually merging objects. Could you do a continuation of this video showing how to seamlessly snap details that go below the surface? I want to carve details into the surface on my normal map and unsure the best method for doing this.
    I'm making a halberd and want to put fantasy patterns and symbols that go below the surface.

    • @MaxPuliero
      @MaxPuliero  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for that thake a look at meshmachine or hardops addons :)

    • @shamanik1320
      @shamanik1320 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Max Puliero it's still a booleaned surface so with hard ops I'd still need to clean up and make everything quad for the subdiv to function. Could you explain what about hard ops would make it easier to clean up after boolean?
      And forget about hard ops being 5 bucks cheaper, which would you pick up? I've heard of hard ops a lot and I saw mr sorbias did a video on meshmachine but it sounds like hard ops is the more useful and robust of the two. I'm going to buy hard ops I think regardless but I'd love to hear your an opinion from your expertise.
      On my blade I made a circle and some zig zag patterns and booleaned and I cleaned it up and it works but just wanted to know if that's the best way to approach the problem. Can't find any videos on carving out design shapes from weapons anywhere.
      I was thinking of using them as floating geometry and then use your method in this video to snap the outside higher area to the surface and then mask out the polygons on the blade where it intersects with the carving. But also looking for a way to ensure the cut is the same distance into the weapon along a slightly curved surface. I've been using shrinkwrap for that so far. Sorry to talk your ear off but I've been messing with this for weeks now.

    • @MaxPuliero
      @MaxPuliero  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      at certain degrees modeling is still a complicate thing to do, so I think there are a tricks involved when you try to get some specific result.
      the only thing you can do is knowing very good your tools and use them together to get what you need.
      There is not a single way to do stuff, and mostly depend on how fast are you or how much you know your tools, (ex: something that you can do super fast, for me can take ages.)

    • @shamanik1320
      @shamanik1320 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Max Puliero I certainly like to take my time and know something 100% before I experiment with it and need to break that habit.
      I'm thinking I'm overcomplicating things though and perhaps I should just keep adding edge loops and insets to the surface until I can manipulate the shapes into it I want. I was hoping I could find a boolean way to do it and it works but it takes way longer than just modeling in the shapes and not needing cleanup.
      Thanks though, your stuff among other peoples have been a giant inspiration to me.
