Excellent video, many thanks! One very useful part (compared to all the other TH-cam reviews i've seen) is that you hardwired the siren in from an existing box. This is exactly what I'm about to attempt! Thanks.
Really good video and well explained. I'm also trying to hardwire my ring siren using the wires from my old siren box. Looked all over youtube for an example and yours fitted the bill perfectly. Thanks again
Hey mate, thanks for the video. Have to say that designing and installing an alarm system is a job. In this video, placement of the PIRs and keypad for example, are not optimal. Onn top of that, surfaces should be cleaned before using double sided tape, though, screws are always better! And this is not a real burgler alarm, it's a gadget without any approval and easy to tamper with. So best tip is not to indicate on the outside that you have a ring alarm.
I agree to a certain extent, and hard wired could always be better. But of all the alarms I've had, this is by far the best and has only given me accurate and pertinent activations. And to add to that, the video assimilation is what gives the real peace of mind, especially when you get notified 1000's of miles from home 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for that 😁 So easy to fit, and because I've linked the ring cameras as well, completenpeace of mind when I'm away. No wondering if I'm coming back to a smashed window or a dorr kicked in 👍🏻
If I was building the house again Chris, I'd definitely make sure there was outside power at camera height for wired cameras. The battery ones are ok, but I've seen the difference and it pretty impressive.
Thanks for that. Two years, no false alarms at all. Been abroad lots of times since and no worries about coming back to a burgled house that I know nothing about. Along with the alarm and doorbell, 4 cameras as well. I've spoken to delivery men from 7k miles away. Love this system and it's expandable as and when you want 👍🏻😁
Can you have the PIR's working along with the door connectors (providing they are all downstairs) set up to have the HOME for night time set if you are upstairs asleep?
Hiya, excellent guide. I am looking to get a alarm system for my new home. Question, of course the siren is very loud and I don't want to annoy the neighbours. Can you customise the siren noise level. Also, how long does it take to turn it off, if it does go off. Lastly, we are planning to go on holiday abroad. If the alarm went off, do you get a notification on your phone, are you able to turn of the siren quickly? When you hardwired the ring siren on the wall, did you drill a hole in the wall, fed in the power cable and plug it in a wall outlet? Thank you.
The siren has 4 loudness setting + silent so you should have a setting that suits you and you can set the duration from 1 to 10 minutes. Yes, you get an immediate notification on the app to say that the siren is sounding. You can also get an email notification. You also get a notification to say that that the alarm has been armed and disarmed so that you know when someone else in the household has left or arrived home and can set up different codes so that you know who it is. The power for the siren, I used the existing power from an old alarm. However, I have fitted 3 more of the systems since and I did exactly like you said, a hole through the wall to take the transformers cable and the transformer plugged in in the house or loft. Good luck in fitting it if you buy one, it's a simple process and thank you for the comment.
@@CloughReviews Thank you so much. I am differently getting this and CostCo has a offer on. We are in the process of buying so hopefully completing next month. I was looking at like alarm service companies but they seem a bit expensive and this Ring Kit, you don't need a subscription.
@@mumihp I've got great piece of mind when ever I'm away and I've got it linked to ring cameras as well (you can always add them later). I pay about £80 a year for uprated recording though so you may want to have a look at that 👍🏻
Sadly, you can NO longer buy the outdoor Siren! They got SUED by ADT for the shape and color and Ring had to discontinue it! I wish they would offer a new redesigned one because they are GREAT I bought one when they first come out and put one in my garage and it is LOUD with THREE power options and several loudness settings!
How do you charge / replace the battery on the PIR when its stuck to the wall? Presumably the door sensors have batteries also so how do you also charge those?
The back part, with the adhesive strips on it, is a separate panel. you just hold the front and slide it downwards and it comes off so you can replace the batteries init. Easy.
Yep, you can set it up however you want to (you can arm it 'home', with some or all devices off or 'away' with some or all devices on. We have a mix because of the dog
Hello. Thanks for the great video. Finally getting rid of ADT. I have a question please . I'm gonna have three different pads in three different floors. I need the pad upstairs not to chirp at all when any sensor is opened or closed. And I need the one in the middle and Basement floors to only chirp when certain sensors are opened and closed. Are these options customizable? Thanks so much.
Oh, god question. Just looked at the settings. You can turn the volume down completely so that answers one of your questions. You actually set up the sensors to instigate the alarm/notification, so that should sort the other two keypads
I wish Ring offered a full package install. I just bought this insane $500 kit and realize that they charge to install each individual item. Between the cameras alone, it's another $400 charge. I figure the product is designed to be DIY - which is disappointing. I keep reading everywhere "it's easy" but for the life of me, it's not. I admit, I'm not handy at all. Couldn't operate a screwdriver for my life. I'm looking at other home security systems, and they all offer installation of the complete package, either free, or just one flat rate. They're monthly service is a bit more pricey, and I guess that's the trade off. I came to this video thinking it'd be helpful, but all it really did was reassure me that, no, this is not something I'm capable of. I'm gonna be close to $1500 after paying the installation Ring offers, which will take little over 2 years to recoup compared to my last service. This stinks.
The keypad may not be in the best location. Burglars can scout the property and view the keypad and arm status and view whether the system has been armed or is off…
I have a dog, which will set it off when in high detection. You can set it to low detection, which is supposed to take pets into account, but if I set it in home mode, I disable some of the PIR's. Not sure about cats.
@CloughReviews Great. Thanks for your reply. I'll be buying this system but will wait until prime day. Buying it with the Ring camera floodlight and doorbell
@@DrBenson21 Great deals on prime day, I've bought three of these systems now, and all have been on prime or black Friday. Have a look for my video on installing the cameras as well. The whole system works perfectly together 👍🏻
I have two GEN 1 motion sensors mounted 7 feet off the floor and my large cat never trips my alarm even jumping on the back of my couches in my main living area when one is mounted. I cannot tell you if the GEN 2 sensors are better or worse and would Google it.
Can you ignore the keypad and only set the alarm system on via the app when you're out? And does the Ring Doorbell use the same part of the app as the alarm system, or is it separate? Thank you!
Contact sensors have 2x 2032 button batteries included and the motion sensors come with 2x duracell batteries each, ive just installed my system to my house, It was really easy to install but i would suggest to buy a rechargeable battery pack for the outdoor siren it does come with 3x D size duracell batteries but you cant have the ring logo glow if you just run it on the D size batteries, i was going to have my keypad hard wired but it states the rechargable battery inside last several months so im just going to scharge that when required
@Clough Reviews have you had to change your motion sensor or contact sensor batteries yet and the D size batteries in the siren? I wasgoingto hard wire the siren but it was a nightmare trying to run wire up the cavity into the loft I ended up sticking a rechargeable pack in it so I can have the ring logo illuminated at night
No change of batteries in anything yet (other than the doorbell and cameras needing recharging). I was fortunate enough to be able to hardwire the siren but I did put a rechargeable battery in as back up.
Popular misconception that the Range Extender is related to WiFi. It's not. Instead it acts as a Z-Wave repeater for the connected sensors. Battery devices cannot act as repeaters in a Z-Wave mesh.
