Good job! We had a finished basement put in and somewhere along the way someone cut the wire to our doorbell. I bought a live wire sniffer that allowed me to find the live wire in the ceiling in the basement just below the doorbell. We cut a small hole in the ceiling connected the two wires beck together and bingo. The sniffer was a bit of an investment but even the electricians who came out were amazed at the accuracy. They had never seen one. They charged a fortune and stole the innerds of my original tubular doorbell and later denied it. It’s worth a lot of money and hard to find. A quick tip, if I may, for your situation where the wire is not stiff enough and you only have about 5-8” to go through, you can use a metal coat hanger that you can straighten out and tape your wire to. You can push it through from the inside provided you have already drilled the hole and there’s no obstruction.

This is very good to show people who are not electricians how to install a ring door bell. But for an electrician this is something straight forward and doesn't need to be taught. By the way ring door bell supplies the transformer with the door bell so you don't need to buy a new power supply
In the instructions for the ring doorbell it says you can connect the wires from your original doorbell to those 2 screws which is what I did and my battery has been on 100% for almost 9 years. That is a good idea for those without a working doorbell in that location.
So, you have a choice on hard wired or non hard wired. So buy the non hard wired so you can rip your house apart to convert your own hard wired door bell. The guys a genius.
You can avoid the hole in the interior wall by just drilling through the masonry and fishing from the outside to the hole below on the inside. If you run the wire along the top of the baseboard, you can avoid removing it.
@@cameranmanner4701 You misunderstand what I meant. Drill the hole behind the doorbell camera and run the wires down the inside of the wall, then drill a hole inside at the bottom of the inside wall and pull the wire in and run it along the baseboard to the transformer. This way you avoid the extra hole inside that needs patching.
Great video my only thight is instead of cutting the driveway and then feeding to the ring drill the hole for the ring feed the fish from outside then pull wire directly from outside
Great video. One suggestion though: instead of making that top hole on the inside, just stick the fishing line directly from the outer hole down to that lower hole. You can then attach the wire and pull it directly outside. This will prevent the need for any drywall repair (no need to drill all the way through in the beginning).
You could have drilled a tiny hole in the outlet faceplate at the corner and fished the wire through it before fishing it through the wall, then the wire would not have run under the edge of the faceplate 👍🏻 just an idea 💡 😊
I sure appreciate your video. I have snaked a lot of wire through walls but I did not have the magnetic type and i'm gonna get one of those. You might edit your opening statement to say that this would work with any wireless doorbell that has terminals on the back. My first thought was the same about just wiring directly to the AC power source. Then both outlets would be usable without a random wire coming out of the wall with a plug. Then I thought about it and figured the reason he didn't tap into the power directly was because the plug adapter to the ring camera converts the ac current down to dc current. Without the adapter plug doing this, his ring camera would probably be irreparably damaged by too much voltage.
That's usually not the case in most walls because exterior walls have insulation. And you could have removed door molding one hole to the ring bell with drill bit on a diagonal...
Nice video. Instead of patching the hole in the drywall behind the Ring, if you don't think you are up to the task. you can simply fasten a blank switch plate over the hole - or a light switch that isn't connected to anything and does absolutely nothing.

OK I'm going to add another tip for the people reading on the tips.... You can also invest in a smart plug so your ring charger adaptor or USB plug charger like your phone charger can plug into a smart plug. You set the plug on and set how long it turns off so you don't forget to turn the battery charge off so battery does not over charge. That's what I do with mine so I never forget to turn it off

Wonderful video mate. I have a motion sensor light at the front of my house. I want to remove it and place the Ring Doorbell. Do you know if that will require anything more that connecting the wires?
Hi good night, I did mine just like how you did yours, however , mines stopped charging but it still had the charging symbol on it and it switched from battery source from hardwired to battery. Do you have any suggestions? I greatly appreciate it 🙏🏾
Good video. Why not take the electric from where you have your switches? It requires some more expertise but it is a shorter span. Also if there is a basement, the power adapter can be located there and the wire pulled up up to the first floor.
I have an extra ring battery and it only needs changing once every two months. Not bad and I don't mind it. What you did was good but a lot of work. I live in a Coop and the door is metal and hard to drill through. But more than that, we cannot make holes in the door. I have the Ring Door Bell attached to the door with strong double sided tape. There is not much activity on my floor and may capture a neighbor leaving an apartment once or twice a day. If you are constantly having to change and charge your ring battery it means it is doing a lot of recording all day. If you can change the ring door bell settings or buy an extra battery and keep it charged .
@@DeaninItYourself I live in an Coop apartment complex. On my floor there are 8 other apartments. There are no windows or open areas in the hallway. It is all closed in. There is no where to use a solar panel except windows that are 30 feet away and even then we cannot stick anything out of the windows. It would be easier for me to try to drill a hole through the double layered doors and connect a wire to the ring door bell for power. If I did make a hole I would have to make sure it is not visible since we are not permitted to drill holes in door except for locks. And If I ever move I would be charged for the hole made in the door. Yea there are restrictions. I would LOVE to live in a house but cannot afford it so the Coop is the next best thing. My apartment is located at the end of a very long hallway which allows me to see the entire floor if the Ring is acitvated by motion or ringing. But the Ring only activates to 30 feet away and that is less than halfway down the hallway. My neighbor had a package stolen from her but my ring did not activate because she is 40 feet away from me. Luckily another neighbor has a ring and caught a possible suspect. I would love to have my ring activate further but Ring says it will only detect up to 30 feet away. Thanks for your video. If I had your house I would have made the hole in the frame as you did, but then just run the wire neatly (staple it) to the power socket. One last thing, You mentioned in the Title and in the video that you can power the Ring with no Source but you do use a source, the power outlet?
Nice idea!! Question: Can you leave the ac transformer plugged in all the time or would have to unplug it when you see the battery if fully charged. Just wonder if it overcharge the battery.
Cell oxidation occurs with lithium-ion batteries. This is an inherent result of using Li-Ion batteries and occurs during the charging process. Eventually, too many electrons are moved to the point that the battery retains “full” power, but actually unable to deliver it to the device, which results in reduced capacity. So it’s “better” to leave a device permanently plugged compared with charge and use.
I’m going to do this!!!

I have wire from previous doorbell but unfortunately my new smart doorbell not working well when I connected, it looks like they are low voltage, what do I do.
Wonderful video mate. I have a motion sensor light at the front of my house. I want to remove it and place the Ring Doorbell. Do you know if that will require anything more that connecting the wires?
Earned a follow for the 'borrow' them bit. dun know
Well done moustro 👏👏👏
Thank You
Great job! This will help folks.
Can I ask when you have connected it to the electric does the ring doorbell stay live ie is there a light on all the time on the doorbell
Excellent and very clear video. Thank you so much.😊
You're very welcome!
The power adapter it to short
So since u know what you doing
Can I add a and wired the cables to the power adapters
Thank you
Excellent video. Well explained. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Waaaaw .......you are a true engineer !
Hi good night, I did mine just like how you did yours, however , mines stopped charging but it still had the charging symbol on it and it switched from battery source from hardwired to battery. Do you have any suggestions? I greatly appreciate it 🙏🏾
sounds like you need a new battery
@@DeaninItYourself it's the built-in battery, and ring send me another one and the same thing happened. And thanks for answering me.
From London that was so easy thank you sir 🙏🏿
Glad it helped
Use a solar powered adapter. No drilling. check out my other video
Easy Peasy... very well done.
Thanks 👍
Thank you, appreciate the help!
I got the solar panel and it works great, battery always full. However the wire along the outside is annoying.
Great job brother, thank you!👍🏼
thank you
I’m thinking to get one is wired one better or without wires
they both work great the only thing is with the wired one you dont have to worry about charging your battery
Can you use alarm wire? Thanks
question... instead, why not fish wire through doorbell side...make hole bigger if necessary...avoid any patch work. What am i missing??
Thanks again
What is the lcd in your wall is it for the doorbell, how to install it
its for my secuity, ADT panel
Very good instructions
Glad you think so!
Wow! Excellent video!! Nice job!
Best ever video for doorbell, thank you very much
You’re welcome!
Really good video and simple. Thanks
