    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    OK. The major flaw in your rant is that if your internet goes down - SO do your cameras! With the additional $10 a month you can now see your cameras via. cellular connection and STIIL know what's going on in your home! As a single person who works outside of my home this is a HUGE feature! If you always have people at home all the time than NO this is NOT for you and stick with what you have! For me this is a major plus as stated plus all other Ring features are enabled. I looked into a backup "failover" options for my home and it ranged anywhere from $7.99 to $15 a month. So, the $10 extra is right on PAR for what I wanted. PLUS the $250-$350 modem to run cellular. As stated, this is NOT for everyone but for me this is a much needed feature. Everyone's needs are different! For me a single person gone more than I am home the backup internet is a PLUS! The SD storage option is also a BIG plus as it limits your upload data to the cloud! The added cellular also let's you have devices OUTSIDE of Ring hooked as well say Smartthings. So all your routines will continue to run in an internet outage! As I sad, It all depends on each individuals wants. This checks my boxes in my case.

      Hey John, great comment, you make some good points thanks 🙂 Yes that's true - I didn't really get into the internet fallback feature but you're right that this is a very nice one.

      @@SmartHomePoint 👍,
      It's not a feature everyone needs but as I mentioned a MAJOR plus for me. What is your "peace of mind" worth to you while away with a pet at home? It's worth ALOT for me. I can "check-in" with my pet while away and that is important for me as she suffers separation-anxiety-syndrome and cries when I'm gone and her hearing my voice through the cameras eases that some. She'll hear my voice, run up to the camera and I'll talk to her. Also I can check the status of my home at anytime with or without internet.

    • @johnszatkowski6898
      @johnszatkowski6898 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@icevariable9600 ;
      No not at all! With the cellular backup you can still use/view cameras in an internet outage which happens in my area more than I like and I still use cloud-storage for most of my cameras only slower access on backup cellular. Since having for a while now the Ring Pro the local storage is still quite buggy. It's JUST an option to avoid your videos going into the cloud if your against cloud-storage. When they get ALL the bugs out of this feature I will switch ALL cameras to local storage but NOT at this point. There are advantages to cloud-storage in the event your hub gets smashed from a break-in or GOD forbid your house burns down.

    Helpful video. Thank you. Please note that the definition of the word “shafted“ is relative. Given where you were coming from, I understand your complaints. Try coming from the place of being an ADT customer in the US and “shafted“ takes on a whole new meaning. I have waited multiple times on hold for long periods of time trying to cancel their service and they won’t pick up. My only recourse is to sabotage my credit card. Compared to ADT, Ring is a great deal IMO.

It will not be accessible in the Nest app and will no longer connect to the internet. Good News is that Googke will accept the Nest Secure "trash" for recycling.

      @@SmartHomePoint All the cloud security companies are doing this, which is why I disconnected my ring from the internet, took the SIM card out of it, no way to phone home. Ring wasn't happy with me doing that at all. I called their tech support line and the lady said "oh no you cant do that, our systems have to be ONLINE!" I said uh yeah sorry but I'm doing it and not paying you anything lol. Also its why I went with WYZE cameras as soon as they got RTSP support so I can monitor my cameras remotely. I also have a portable hotspot that allows my house to always have internet, and a battery backup in the event of power failure. so at this point I'm paying exactly NIL for total home security , both video cameras and security,.

    I feel like this review was confusing. In the US, as a new Ring Alarm customer there's still the option to simply buy the standard alarm kit, which doesn't include a pro base station for $249, or spend the extra $50 and buy the Ring Alarm Pro kit for $299 if you want the additional features. Essentially it's just a $50 equipment difference, and a higher tiered protect plan that offers a ton of additional benefits.

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A fair point, thanks for the comment. I mainly aimed the video at existing customers, who suddenly have to shell out $249 more (if they want the extra features) AND pay double each month for the features they already had. But for new customers, I agree that an extra $50 for a bunch of new features is a pretty sweet deal.

    Could you help me understand the difference between cloud and local storage? I’m a bit fuzzy on why a person would choose one over the other and what the important differences are.

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cloud storage will upload all the video recordings to Ring's servers, whereas local storage will save them on an SD card which is inside the Ring Alarm Pro. So cloud storage will use up more internet bandwidth from your ISP plan (since it's constantly uploading video to Ring), whereas local storage won't. However if someone breaks in and steals the Ring Alarm Pro, any (recent) local recordings will be lost - since these won't have gone to Ring's servers.

    • @CrimsonVioletMoon
      @CrimsonVioletMoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmartHomePoint that’s helpful, thank you. I just learned about having to link your ring to your Amazon account if you sign up for pro, perhaps sd cards are better for people concerned about digital privacy as well?

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Amazon and Ring integration is becoming increasingly requires - but not altogether surprising (or a bad thing, IMO). And yes, local SD card recording is definitely good from a privacy perspective, I agree. 🙂

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, it depends whether you really want the extra features with the Alarm Pro (backup internet, potential for local storage etc). If so, you could always connect your Alarm Pro to your Eero 6 Pro SE (with an Ethernet cable) and essentially have two WiFi networks. Then connect your Ring devices to your Alarm Pro Wi-Fi, to get the extra features.
      But if you aren't too interested in those extra features and just want an alarm system, the basic alarm will work very nicely for you 👍

    *** Hopefully you see this ******
    For the past couple of weeks I have been seeing random images of people in my yard. (I’m not crazy) but I am very concerned. The only issue is they do not move. I will then notice my camera will change colors or moving objects will be jumbled and then disappear. Also, I will notice the image will stay for hours. I would also see glimpse of I guess you can call it light flashing or at least there’s always a device on in the shadows. I just read your article on your wifi being “jammed”. Would this cause just the device or would all devices be Jammed? Have you heard of anything else that this could be? Thank you!!!

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear your experience, that's creepy for sure 😔 I don't think you're crazy, dw. It certainly could be WiFi jamming, although it can be hard to diagnose for sure. Some WiFi jammers can target a specific device, while others can be broad and impact various nearby devices.
      One way of knowing whether it is WiFi jamming or not is to use a non-WiFi camera. Whilst an Ethernet camera can be great, they can be annoying to install unless your router is right by it. An alternative is to buy a 'spy cam' which records to a local SD card:
      www.amazon.com/s?k=spy+camera+sd+card+24%2F7&crid=10QPDXM7IVDKQ&sprefix=spy+camera+sd+card+24%2F7%2Caps%2C170&ref=nb_sb_noss&tag=tdperry-20
      Set it to record 24/7 (check this is offered, not all 'spy cameras' allow this), then check it back and see whether you can get better video recordings of the people in your yard.
      If you do, then it could well be WiFi jamming (since a non-WiFi camera captures them, but a WiFi camera didn't).
      I hope that helps and that you get this issue sorted 🙂

    Thanks for the info! Do you know of a way to get cellular backup w/ Eufy as that's the only significant thing Ring has over Eufy IMHO? Also, what's your opinion of the recording quality of the Eufy vs Ring indoor cameras?

    • @SmartHomePoint
      @SmartHomePoint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries 🙂 I agree that this is lacking with Eufy, although you could always use a router system with cellular backup (whether that's the Ring Alarm Pro, or an ISP that supports this) and then connect your Eufy devices to that. It would seem weird to connect Eufy cameras to a Ring Alarm Pro router, but it would work.
      In terms of recording quality, I will aim to do a multi-camera review (including Eufy). I like that Eufy usually offer 2K, however they often have quite a low bit-rate - and this leads to... not great recording quality. They're probably slightly better than Ring's recording quality, but it's not a massive difference IMO.

    As I said in your other video ring is just not worth the money even at $10 a month. The picture quality is awful. I had a guy at my door which was recorded on 2 "HD" cameras to include the ring doorbell and when the police wanted to take a look and attempted to zoom into the gentleman the picture quality was just so bad that it blurred the more you zoomed in. We couldn't even make out the nametag on his shirt or the license plate on his truck. I have notice this many times when attempting to zoom in. You can't view the cameras in the rain or in the early dewy mornings as they are all fogged over or moisture is blocking the view. They are also awful during the winter months. 🤠

    Honestly ring cameras are completely shit. I have a camera point to my car when I need it the most at night the thing doesn't record it goes to sleep, between 12am to 4am when I need it the most it's very annoying.

      Ugh that sounds annoying. It should naturally record any motion during that time, but it's hard to know if it's having issues because there's no health logs and it can't record 24/7 so you just end up with no recordings - and no way of knowing if that's valid or not 😕

    Use ring home alarm, and use Wyze cams RTSP, thank me later.

      That sounds a pretty good solution to be fair. I do like the flexibility from Wyze (i.e. of SD card, cloud or RTSP recording), but equally I think that the Ring Alarm is a great product. But no reason you can't use some Ring and some Wyze products, as you suggest.

      @@SmartHomePoint I have them all disconnected and on my private hotspot that has its own battery backup, so my alarm is always on 24-7 self monitor and no fees to wyze or ring.
