    On the door sensors, the small piece can be turned 90 degrees. Rather than carving out the door, place the small piece on the frame, which will be at an angle, and put the larger portion of the sensor on the door. They should be aligned up and down but they don't have to be parallel with each other.

    • @nereushixon
      @nereushixon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      well yea exactly. Also mounting that sensor that way, would prevent you from replacing the batteries in the future.

      I audibly cried out when he cut that sensor into the door frame. Door might be there for a century. Sensor maybe 5 years or until the next homeowner.

      Alternate solution, instead of carving out, add on. Place a small block of wood on the door and mount it to that so that it’s “flush” instead of creating more work and headache like cutting out the trim, nonsense

    Great video. My only comment would be on your door sensors, you could have swapped the sensors around so the bigger unit was installed on your door and the slim piece would have installed within your trim without the need to carve the chunk out, certainly looks to be enough room along the top of the door for that :)

    NOTE: For people doing the same to their door frame. Put the small part of the sensor on the frame instead of the door. MAJOR ball ache when it comes to swapping the battery out. Sensor unit needs to be pushed to the right (into the door frame) to access the batteries.

  • @aaronnallin2526
    @aaronnallin2526 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Just FYI, you should definitely NOT cut into your crown molding for the sensor on doors or windows lol. I had the same issue, but the sensor is designed to handle slight inclines and will still perfectly make contact with the other part of the sensor and still read properly. These sensors are made specifically to handle these sort of situations.
    ALSO for installation of keypad and base station I recommend you use 3M strips. 👍🏻

    To make it easier to find where the screws have to go, you can make a template with some tape. Place the tape across the holes, and mark the holes, them remove the tape and stick the tape to the wall, and drill the holes on the template.

    In theory the "get out delay" for the front door being on allows potential robbers 30 seconds for them to grab whatever they can before the alarm even sounds? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just arm/disarm via the app after you exit the home and before you enter the home so alarm goes off immediately if someone breaks in?

    • @scotth6814

      Personally I would find it annoying to have to pull out my phone, turn it on, put in the code to allow access to phone, open the app, put in the Ring code, close the app, turn off the phone, and put it back in my pocket again. Much easier to set the alarm for 15 seconds, and punch the code in upon opening the door. But maybe that's just me.

      @@JeffLepard The problem with RING's water/freeze sensor is the alert is via email, not a text message to my phone. So I went with a pp-Code sensor which has 3 distinct advantages: 1) The user can specify the threshold for temperatures, for example, send an alert if the temperature is above 70F or below 50F. 2) Text alerts whenever the threshold is exceeded. 3) The user can remotely look at hourly logs to see the exact temperature and trends for example 65F,62F,59F,55F 50F...etc.

    Are you able to replace the batteries in your door sensor without removing the complete unit?

    Is it worth buying Ring Alarm Pro? Costco has a very good Black Friday 2021 offer for Ring Alarm Gen2.

    Hi Mate, good job by the way 👏 quick question, what're u doing if the thieves are cutting off the electricity? 🤔 I'm asking because I have a professional sistem at home installing by someone dealing with this kind of stuff.

      I would plug the base station into a UPS.

    Great video but watching this changes my mind about getting this. The wires for the base and panel are deal breakers and my doors are not flush on frame so the sensors wouldn't work

      Pretty easy to space the sensor out flush with the frame. Just need some double sided tape and anything you can cut to size to use as a spacer.

    I would love to setup this ring alarms how would I be able to connect it to my local police department and fire fighters ? If you let the alarm set off on purpose wouldn't the police department contact you already?

      That's the only thing I don't like about the panel why they didn't made it wireless
