Wing Stop's Hot Buffalo Wings with their ranch is the closest I've ever had to wing perfection. Maybe they make their ranch better in Texas than in Alabama, but it is truly delightful. And the wings at our local Wing Stop must be from Goliaths' chickens, because they have tons of meat on them! What I learned from this video: 1. Fast food wings are pretty awful; 2. Matt and I agree on blue cheese and rats; 3. Matt thinks Randy Jackson is dead.
I had VSG about ten years ago. I’m not sorry I had it, but I want to emphasize that they aren’t kidding around when they say to be very, very cautious when you start to eat solid food again. Take a single bite and then wait about 5-10 minutes until you take the second bite. Your stomach is a lot smaller than it used to be and it gets filled long before you stop being hungry. The pain from an overfilled stomach is excruciating and you will end up throwing up a lot if you overeat. Also, your stomach is a lot more sensitive and some foods you used to be able to eat will also be very painful. Like I said, I’m not sorry I had the surgery, but I wish I’d realized sooner how to live with my new digestive system.
It took me a good six months before I could eat any type of fried food, it just sat like a lump and made me ill. I can now have about eight flats two years out. Good luck with your journey 😊
@@marinemikeusmc6529: Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. It’s a form of bariatric surgery that is less invasive than a bypass and has similar success rates. In essence, it reduces your stomach to about 15-25% and it also reduces whatever it is that produces a hunger-causing hormone, and the end result for most people is a significant weight loss, which in turn alleviates many of the illnesses associated with obesity: heart disease, diabetes, you get the picture. It’s not a walk in the park, though, and each person’s recovery and results are unique to their own health situation. But one thing is for sure: you never will be eating again the way you did before (that’s not a complaint - that was the goal). What took me a very long time to adjust to is accurately judge the amount of food I’m going to eat (about 1/4 of what I think I want - old habits die hard) and to eat very, very slowly. Once my tiny stomach is full, that next bite is extremely uncomfortable, and the one after that is excruciating and I have to force myself to vomit. But I learned and that doesn’t happen anymore.
We made arrangements to play Dungeons and Dragons at Wingstop. We were the only people in their party room. They only had two or three other customers while we had a half dozen people in our group buying food from them, so we actually gave them a significant bump in business while we were there. The last two times we went there, they cranked the music up in the party room to drive us out. The manager insisted they had no control over it except we actually watched her turn the volume up. None of us ever went back, even on our own. They had plenty of excellent flavors to choose from, but they were skinny. "Saucy bones" is an accurate description.
Matt is right. Hot sauce (Frank's Red Hot and ONLY Frank's Red Hot, if you want true Buffalo flavour), butter, and a little bit of granulated garlic. You have to toss the wings to coat them, you can't brush that stuff on.

I think it’s worth giving Wing Stop another chance! You should eat them there and get their fries. They’re hand cut and the seasoning pairs so well with the sauces! And their ranch is typically delicious!
What was suspect to me is that the ranch affects the wings. How can you judge a wing by the ranch? I NEVER get ranch because I can handle heat and I think ranch is gross. And Wingstop would not have been 4th. I haven't had Hooters wings in over 10 years but he described it exactly how I remember it. No way that beats out Wingstop. Never had Zaxby's. Trust me. Bham/AL has plenty of real wing restaurants. He just chose the big chain places only. We have tooooons of local wing places that blow all of these out of the water that if he added, this video would be over 2 hours long
I actually respect your opinions. I still drink Bullitt bourbon because of one of your shows, and use Franks hot sauce. AND I shall forever now refer to Birmingham and "Bigsaltyham" because, let's face it, that's hilarious. Good job.

@@alostrich you got screwed, but wing stops are extremely inconsistent.... we have 3 here, 1 is great, one is decent, and the other i wouldnt feed to rats
Wingstop I’ve had while visiting back in B’Ham is very different than those I’ve had in Houston, TX - both in wing size and ranch quality. Maybe because of the amount of competition around here.
That was definitely not Wing Stop's best work. Their ranch is easily the best in the game, but that was just sad water. Whoever mixed up that ranch needs to put on janitorial duty.
@@daniellejordan4551 i agree. i order from them just to get an inordinate amount of extra ranch. i was excited to see what he would say about the wingstop ranch, especially after he said he had never had it. shame on that wingstop.
its all who owns it, most stores are franchise locations so its always a risk if you get good owners or trash ones, like my town has 2 Burger Kings one closer to me and one on our bigger highway about probably 10 min further drive, the one on the highway is good, clean and ran efficiently, one closer in town is nasty, barely can get orders right and idk how but even if you are the ONLY person to order it takes them 15mins to fix your food.
Yes, the flats are the best! I only eat the little drummettes if I run out of flats before I get full. Plus, blue cheese is far superior to ranch - some of those ranch dressings out there are awful!
Some Blue cheese dressings are also awful, like most of them from the grocery store. Ken's, Kraft, Hidden Valley are all garbage. Most restaurant blue cheese is good though.
Can we get a bless your rank on domestic beers? I feel like that would be a good video 😂 also how are you eating hot wings without a beer I thought it was a law that they had to go together idk
I worked at Pizza Hut when they switched from the normal carboard wing boxes to the awful plastic bowl things. Before those things there was a mixing bowl for each flavor of sauce, and cleaning that at the end of the night took two washer loads to itself. In that way, it was kind of better, however they always exploded, got sauce everywhere when you're trying to toss the wings, and did NOT deliver well (Kinda melted and squished, didn't fit in any of the delivery bags)
So SOOO right about the ranch. If it's house made then it's almost universally elevating the wings. If it comes in a bottle it almost universally makes the wings worse. If nobody is asking for extra ranch with wings from your place, it's because your ranch is bad.
I used to be like you. I thought blue cheese was evil. But then I grew up and realized how delicious it is. Now I have it on all kinds of things. Maybe your wingstop has been alabamized and is less than, but here in TX they are pretty darn good.
That order seems about what I would of guessed. BWW and Hooters are probably the only ones I'm actually ordering wings from. I would of liked to see you include Wild Wings, but they don't have as many locations as some of these other chains. I also think getting Hot flavor would of given you a better gage of what a buffalo wing should taste like. Thanks for coming to my Ted to talk.
Happy New Year, Matt 🎉🎉 If you have an air fryer, the best wings can be made easily at your house. 390° for 20-25 mins. I always put a little ketchup in with my Crystals hot sauce. Most importantly- toss cooked wings in melted butter and Then in sauce - makes ALL of the difference. A lot of times, I end up eating mine with just the butter, they're That good cooked this way.
I made these for New Years, just like you said, wowza, so perfectly crispy & balanced with the butter/Crystal mixture. I knew I could trust your judgement, cause Crystal is the ONLY acceptable hot sauce except homemade. Thanks again.
I am a blue cheese monster, and I will die on that hill! 😤 To me, the best wings in B’ham were Exotic Wings on Green Springs, but they were sold and the new owner doesn’t know how to do wings at all. 😭 For me, Buffalo Wild Wings Caribbean Jerk are the bomb! 😁
@@RShonta I'm pretty sure they did. I don't see any of the original staff in there anymore, and they modified the store interior. I used to love their cajon ranch wings!
Hooters was my first buffalo wing experience and my favorite for a long time. Then I discovered Buffalo Wild Wings and had a new go to. Then I visited the Wild Wings Cafe in Macon Georgia. Wild Wing Cafe is now my 1st choice! I think they are a smaller chain just in the south but they are by far my favorite now!
I like Wingstop, but not for their original hot wings. The Atomic packs a nice heat but the original sauce is a lot more vinegar based and it's a bit much. I'll eat them on occasion to change things up, but it's their other sauces that are really tasty.
My husband and I love bless your rank!! Happy New Year Matt and all y’all out there! Keep doing what you’re doing love it! I’m sorry you forgot a secret message but we watch all the way to the end every time!! Love your videos!
I’ve never thought of it like that. As a southerner, I prefer blue cheese but most northerners use it as well while the people here use ranch. Guess I’ve never thought about that.
You have upset me with the WingStop Ranch diss! TRY. IT. AGAIN. NOW. Especially the Louisiana Rub....or the limited flavors of Hot Honey Rub or Bayou BBQ 😋
If you ever vacation in Canada, please take the time to do a ranking of fast food poutine. All the major chains - McDonald's, Wendy's, BK, Harvey's, KFC, etc. - have it.
I've learned how to make my own Buffalo wings at home. I actually like them better than any restaurant because I usually pick the meatiest wings, bake them in the oven, then drench them with Frank's Wing Sauce. No one else likes Buffalo wings so I usually eat them!
I’ve always thought that buffalo sauce was some kind of barbecue sauce. 😮 Hot sauce and butter? Interesting! (I admit - my experience with wings is limited.) 😂
Yep. Melt some butter, throw in some Frank's Red Hot (for the most traditional experience), whisk it up, and you're good to go. It's about the easiest sauce there is to make.
Yeah, how about that? No SEC teams in the championship. And the SEC Champs just got pushed around like a bunch of wet noodles by the Big 10 Champs. It wouldn't have even went to overtime if it wasn't for a crappy UM kicker. 😅😅😅
I love your content Matt...but with all due respect, a southerner's opinion on wings is kind of automatically disqualified until you've been to Western NY and had real wings. Also, stop being a child and use bleu cheese 😂 still love though
Buffalo Wild Wings is my favorite too, when I bring them home I put them in air fryer to re-crisp them up. I love that they cook them in beef tallow, no seed oils 🙌🏽🙌🏽

That stuff you stuck in after the rankings was amazing. Absolutely changed my life😜 totally stick around for it 😉🙄
Bro, Wingstop has the best ranch EVER!!! They must have done you dirty for you not to have liked it.
They must’ve because that was mostly water. Could’ve probably had 1st place with legit ranch
@@alostrich you got screwed, but wing stops are extremely inconsistent.... we have 3 here, 1 is great, one is decent, and the other i wouldnt feed to rats
Someone jacked up the ratios for sure. Their ranch is top tier because they're making it from Hidden Valley mix.
@@alostrichu must have gotten some bad sauce bc their ranch is amazing
This is the investigative reporting I subscribed for.
13:24 "Oh there's coupons 😅" I love this series!
Finally! The ranking i've been wanting since Matt was on the channel that shall not be named
One time I got home and didn’t have my ranch in Rburg. Ididnt know if I should just cry or drive back and get my ranch.
its all who owns it, most stores are franchise locations so its always a risk if you get good owners or trash ones, like my town has 2 Burger Kings one closer to me and one on our bigger highway about probably 10 min further drive, the one on the highway is good, clean and ran efficiently, one closer in town is nasty, barely can get orders right and idk how but even if you are the ONLY person to order it takes them 15mins to fix your food.
I was so excited for this episode! Good job! 🎉 And I agree with this ranking. Even with me being one of the blue cheese "monsters" 😂
I’m also blue cheese over ranch
I just found your videos recently and I CANNOT STOP WATCHING. Love the content! “no cap frfr ong“ 😂😂😂
I really appreciated that heartfelt message at the end.
Yes, the flats are the best! I only eat the little drummettes if I run out of flats before I get full. Plus, blue cheese is far superior to ranch - some of those ranch dressings out there are awful!
Flats are the best, but I'm eating my drumettes
You can just order all flats :)
Some Blue cheese dressings are also awful, like most of them from the grocery store. Ken's, Kraft, Hidden Valley are all garbage. Most restaurant blue cheese is good though.
Blue Cheese by far. Especially with hot or spicy wings. Most places the ranch is watered down.
My daughter and I love to share orders--she eats the drums, I eat the flats! And I only get blue cheese but for the veggies!
Fun fact about dominos wings, after working there I learned that they are not breaded at all. That is all seasoning that covers the wings.
Can we get a bless your rank on domestic beers? I feel like that would be a good video 😂 also how are you eating hot wings without a beer I thought it was a law that they had to go together idk
That would be great.
Ranking mass produced American swill would be entertaining though not thirst inducing.
Thats a local IPA in his koozie. Im also a Birmingham native
As I'm watching this I'm sure he had a few
Ooooh. Great idea dude.
Completely agree about Pizza Hut and bringing back the salad bar.
Wingstop ranch is amazing. I’m offended now!
Matt's take on Blue Cheese is exactly my take and part of why I love him.
Your def 12
@@jedimasterjoe5386 I haven't been 12 since the 80s, but I'd happily go back
I used to be like you.
Happy New Year, Matt 🎉🎉
If you have an air fryer, the best wings can be made easily at your house. 390° for 20-25 mins. I always put a little ketchup in with my Crystals hot sauce. Most importantly- toss cooked wings in melted butter and Then in sauce - makes ALL of the difference. A lot of times, I end up eating mine with just the butter, they're That good cooked this way.
Thank you kindly. I needed this info.
Air fryer wings is a cheat code… btw drumsticks work well too! Enjoy!
I made these for New Years, just like you said, wowza, so perfectly crispy & balanced with the butter/Crystal mixture. I knew I could trust your judgement, cause Crystal is the ONLY acceptable hot sauce except homemade. Thanks again.
@dolphinbear661 that's awesome!!
I am a blue cheese monster, and I will die on that hill! 😤
To me, the best wings in B’ham were Exotic Wings on Green Springs, but they were sold and the new owner doesn’t know how to do wings at all. 😭
For me, Buffalo Wild Wings Caribbean Jerk are the bomb! 😁
Exotic Wings got a new owner? Aw dang, I loved their Cajun ranch fries
@@RShonta I'm pretty sure they did. I don't see any of the original staff in there anymore, and they modified the store interior. I used to love their cajon ranch wings!
Your are entertaining and fun to watch. Please do more southern food restaurant reviews. Too bad ya didnt have Pluckers available.
ATX baby! Dr Pepper wings!
I loved your Super Troopers reference❤
I can't eat spicy food but here to support my favorite Southern.
I swear by Wingstop. They’re just a great variety of flavors and always sauced generously. Their Mango Habanero is my favorite.
Agree on the flavors and sauces. But the chicken is thin and terrible.
Wingstop is much better than your experience. Their Louisiana rub is my favorite.
Amen right here brother! Lemon pepper for me and mine, it's just so good to pair with a nice hard cider
I like Wingstop, but not for their original hot wings. The Atomic packs a nice heat but the original sauce is a lot more vinegar based and it's a bit much. I'll eat them on occasion to change things up, but it's their other sauces that are really tasty.
Wingstop chicken isn't that good.. the best wings place I can think of is wings to go but idk how many are left
Oh my gosh the sign behind you has got me laughing out loud hysterically. “ I like pig butts, and I cannot lie…”
yea, I work at a domino's and usually when I box wings I do give the box a little side to side shake after I box them to spread the sauce around
My husband and I love bless your rank!! Happy New Year Matt and all y’all out there! Keep doing what you’re doing love it! I’m sorry you forgot a secret message but we watch all the way to the end every time!! Love your videos!
You are definitely a southern man if you are using ranch dressing.
Yankees like me always use blue cheese.
I’ve never thought of it like that. As a southerner, I prefer blue cheese but most northerners use it as well while the people here use ranch. Guess I’ve never thought about that.
If they have breading, they are NOT buffalo wings. It's just fried chicken with sauce.
So so so true
Yes
you, and Rhett and Link, are the most trustworthy people for food rankings👏👏
Matt is the man. These videos are gold
You should rank types of beer I feel like you would make that so hilarious
You should run through the Hot Ones gauntlet one video.
Thank you, past Matt, for reminding me that my company once had a mandatory Zoom happy hour, and it was pitiful. Now I am traumatized once again, LOL
Matt, is there any way you can rank just local mom and pop wing restaurants?
Yes!!! This is exactly how I do it too! Wings should not be breaded or fried! ❤
Have you tried an air fryer? Makes really crispy wings.
Great rankings, Matt❤ Happy New Year to you and your family ❤
Bleu cheese is life for real Buffalo hot wings.
Do you do your own editing?! Omg whoever does the editing on thia needs a raise!
Also, that rat update almost killed me! 😂 gold teir entertainment!
Bless your rank is awesome. Always look forward to new videos. Keep up the great work Matt.
Flats and ranch. A man of culture
Mmmmmmmm
I’m dyin to see a reaction vid from you on the Rose Bowl game
Yeah, how about that? No SEC teams in the championship. And the SEC Champs just got pushed around like a bunch of wet noodles by the Big 10 Champs. It wouldn't have even went to overtime if it wasn't for a crappy UM kicker. 😅😅😅
I have never watched a person saying wings stop ranch wasn't good, dude the wing stop ranch is the bestest ranch ever
I have not even got past Buffalo Wild Wings and this is already the best Bless Your Rank ever!
I think Matt is getting progressively more drunk as he eats more Chicken Wings.
I love your content Matt...but with all due respect, a southerner's opinion on wings is kind of automatically disqualified until you've been to Western NY and had real wings. Also, stop being a child and use bleu cheese 😂 still love though
Buffalo may have invented the hot wing, but the South perfected them (by smoking them). That being said, none of these are smoked
Buffalo Wild Wings is my favorite too, when I bring them home I put them in air fryer to re-crisp them up. I love that they cook them in beef tallow, no seed oils 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Looking forward to the SEC roll call this week and what kinda comedic spin you can put on Alabama dropping the game to Michigan.
They got schooled. It shouldn't have even went to overtime. He is deleting any sort comments about the SEC. Can't handle the truth. What a baby/hypocrite.
