- Hens love roosters, geese love ganders. Everyone else loves Ned Flanders! Except if he’s making drinks, then I don’t love Ned Flanders. Fortunately I made a massively improved Planter’s Punch courtesy of Smuggler’s Cove.

I didn't see Flander's drink as only having those three ingredients. He just listed off the alcoholic ones.
Exactly. Looks like we're gonna have to message Matt Groening and demand the full recipe.
IBA says a Planter's punch is made with orange juice, pineapple juice, and lemon juice (and grenadine, simple syrup, and bitters, but let's say the creme de cassis stands in for those), so he probably topped it off with that. I feel like I might want to try that, but I'm not sure if they sell creme de cassis by the nip, and I don't know how many kirs I'd be up for afterward.
Given the context, Flanders sounds like he's only listing the Alcoholic ingredients, given the conversation Homer wouldn't care what the non-alcoholic ones were. How about making a more traditional punch, using the alcohols listed?
I interpret the horrible flanders version as Ned trying to be nice to Homer. After all, what else would homer want besides a nuclear grade high proof cocktail?
Classic Ned, and classic Homer not being satisfied with his attempt of neighborly kindness.

I think there was more room to interpret Flanders' version. It is very reasonable to assume based on Homer's complaint he only listed off the alcoholic ingredients and not the full spec. I think it deserves trying at least a traditional Planter's Punch with a jigger of bourbon and some crème de cassis added.
Separate note. It should be said that in episode one of the Simpsons Flanders has a home bar, and didn't start out super religious or mild, just better and better off then Homer in basically every way.
I honestly feel like Season 2 pulled off Flander's relationship with Alcohol better than the later Seasons even if it's not a major topic it just makes him feel to left sided, even if that was his intended purpose.
I feel like you didn't give the Flanders Planter's Punch a proper treatment. As you say later, Planter's Punch has a pretty standard template to follow. Flanders probably only mentions the "strong" part of the template.

Surprised you didn't try to adapt Ned's recipe by assuming he created an actual Planter's Punch variation using lime, sugar, rum, whiskey, and crème de cassis 🤷♂️

The strange thing is that Ned has a draft beer setup in his rumpus room. No telling if he partakes or if he just pours for others.
Last time he was so darn mad it was mostly HEAD.
Maybe he sometimes uses it for formal occasions,like New Years' parties or simple get-togetherness or something..
Its weird that in the early seasons, he had a full bar in his basement, even offered homer a german beer!
That is the reason why the process of writers changing a character beyond recognition is called "Flanderization"...

It’s a really old drink, made 1part red wine, 2or3 part spirit. (Either whiskey or brandy). There’s a few recipes out there, but I can’t remember.

Ouch! I got really drunk on cassis once! It was just slipping down so easy. I’ve only gotten vomiting drunk twice that I can remember. Horrible experience but I think it happens to lots of us as we are learning.. I’m still not keen on cassis, but prefer dry drinks nowadays anyway.

@@Methoverbitches wouldn't be too surprising, almost everyone I know who joined the military developed a drinking problem. Regardless, Bob was seemingly high on life anyway, he probably didnt need booze to have a good time. (He also could've just been high in a more conventional manner, anyone that says "happy little trees" probably smoked something somewhere)

Kir is one of the cheapest alcoholic beverages you can buy in Sweden, according to the APK index (Alkohol Per Krona, no need to translate that right?). Therefore it's a classic libation amongst rowdy and poor punks like I was in my mid teens. I still have trouble with the taste of black currant. How does a 16 yo with pink spiked hair and a 1000 studs on his leather jacket buy booze in Sweden? He asks one of the old park bench drunks that hang around the alcohol monopoly to buy it for him. Sometimes they don't even want money for it (more than the price of the product that is) , they just enjoy sticking it to the man.
