When you name Champaign, you use the term Sec, according to the amout of sugar you add after making the Champaign. Sweetness gets stronger in order of : Extra brut - btut - extra sec - sec - Demi sec - Doux. Triple sec was made to be very sweet and it was named as 'even sweeter than Doux' and it became Triple Sec. Hope to find out other versions of the origin of the name. : )
