You have to protect your property and livestock. The people that don't like seeing you trap are the people that haven't ever lived somewhere that had livestock. You do what you have to do to take care of your homestead and livestock. Love you guys and all that you do

@@jamespoteet499he's not just doing it to do it. Daniel said the main reason is to help the turkey population in his area. Predators like raccoons are decimating the wild turkey nests (they nest on the ground) to the point where their numbers have decreased in his area. They are just trying to help rebuild the wild turkey population by eliminating some of their biggest predators.

People who don't live on farms, have to realize, that other WILD animals carry diseases. Right down to even the smallest of rodents. For instance...Get bit by a raccoon....u may get rabies. Get bit by a possum....u may get Ecoli,..or bird flu., because possums are known to eat land bound birds such as quail, chickens, quineas, ducks, even turkeys and may spread a disease. The possum eats the eggs or the small birds. Every disease trickles down from one animal to another. JUST LIKE IN HUMANS!..The raccoons eats the eggs and the small birds and even the larger birds. Then the bigger animals come along and eat them. Then the even bigger ones come along and them! It's just a continuous cycle.
Seems to me that....Maybe the government should be paying closer attention to the physical well-beings of the wildlife. Research wise. ( Maybe blood work drawn at every reported kill in hunting seasons)...(.as far as, legally hunting wildlife)! That's obviously been a huge question in what brought COVID about.
I know that would be a big problem for legal hunters but....
But..That's a price I would be willing to pay. WOULD U!??

I’m 66 years old and started trapping when I was 12… there have been periods when I was too busy but I always have had traps. In all those years nothing worked better for me than the Hawbaker baits and lures. I tried a lot of brands and always came back. I wish Houston the best of luck. I never invested in dog-proof traps. But it appears to be the way to go.

This video was excellent. It demonstrated how Houston was able to attend a camp that most cildren do not have an opportunity to attend. He obviously learned a lot about trapping and his dad keeps emphasizing the importance of why trapping might be necessary. There are many learning outcomes that can occur from the trapping activity. I look forward to seeing other videos that show the progress Houston makes with trapping and what he learns.

Great to see a youngster getting started with trapping. Quick hint, especially if going after coyotes, bobcats, basically anything you are going to be using a coil spring foot hold on, make sure you get those traps boiled, dyed good, and waxed. Will make a huge difference in your success The boiling and dying process kills all scent on the trap, and a quick dip in wax helps them fire faster, especially in partially frozen ground. Never touch the traps with bare skin after you have them ready to go, always wear gloves the entire time you are on the set. Super-Pro tip: Get your foothold traps laminated. This process of welding a 1/4" or 3/16" steel rod on top of each jaw effectively thickens the jaws, increasing the surface area and holding strength, and decreasing the chance of breaking the skin or bones.

I love it when parents get involved in training their children to hunt and trap. My younger sister and I trapped gophers and our local township used to pay us. Now, being 64, I have gophers that keep popping up. I do have traps, but no interest in trapping those horrible rodents. I got a bit girly-girl, icky feeling them as I grew up. Keep training Houston and EmmaLee in hunting, it will be skills that will always remain with them.

Yep, an episode without at least a glimpse of Charlie almost feels empty afterwards. And even growing up on a large farm I always thought it was a waste of time and money to have something like an emu on the farm. Now, I can't think there could be a more enjoyable, entertaining, non-house pet on a farm.
Charlie is the man, or girl, or whatever, nevermind.

Hello Arm’s Family. Your waterfall looks beautiful. The thought of trapping can be cruel when done wrong but with more clinics like what you went to will teach people how to do it right. Trapping is a way of protecting your animals and controlling the population of predators.
Houston good luck with your trapping. You will look good in a coon skin cap and every hunter and trapper needs one..lol. Can’t wait to see what you catch and who wins the bet.
With DeJay being a photographer, the mono scope would be a great tool for her to use for getting nighttime animal photos. Kids these days don’t know what it means to tan their hides. I would like to wish Daniel, DeJay,
Weston, Emmalee, Houston, and all the animals a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May GOD Bless You and Your Family.

My Dad and Brothers trapped. They made their own pellet stretchers out of heavy plywood. They made good money when we were kids. I remember them waking up early every morning before school to make trap runs. I miss those days. We also had homing pigeons and raced them so I spent a lot of time traveling with them and fishing and checking traps. ❤️

    Daniel and Houston,
This is a practical way to manage property and all wildlife on it.
Left out of balance some species do virtually disappear, definitely don't thrive, other species are prone to have disease & hunger cause them do poorly. It is virtually impossible to remove all of the targeted species. However the ones that remain, are generally healthy and definitely pulls pressure of the quail/turkeys and etc so they can have a healthy population.
God asked us to manage his creation. If I was to keep too many pets/livestock, they won't thrive as well...in the same way... unmanaged wildlife eventually suffer from poor management.
This is a Healthy and very Ethical thing you are teaching your son. It will continue to encourage a healthy respect for the wildlife in your son. Seen it happen.
Many times those that enjoy harvesting also have a love for the beauty in wildlife as well.
    Merry Christmas! 😊

That is amazing you guys!! For the people that don’t agree with it, I’m sorry but this is the way of life. Your ancestors did this stuff. This dates back to the beginning of time and it will continue until the end of time. Like he said and has said many many times, if this is something that you do t want to see then don’t watch. I grew up trapping with my daddy. Not just for the hides but learned how to survive if something ever happened and were lost. And in today’s world you better be prepared on how to survive if s*!t goes down. I’m 63 and have been taught so much growing up on a farm, learning to hunt, learning to trap etc. I have taught my kids and grandkids things as they grew up. It’s just life and I love that he is teaching his kids how to survive.

I love Huston's enthusiasm and passion for hunting and trapping . He has Native American roots and it shows . I'm proud of him for wanting to get outside instead of sitting mindlessly in front of screens waisting his childhood away . If more kids would get outside and exercise America wouldn't have such a terrible problem with childhood obesity and other ailments that go along with it . Just my opinion y'all before you come after me take a good hard look at yourselves and your families !

I think it’s awesome that you are teaching these skills to your son! Any rational person after listening to your explanation for doing it can’t argue with the common sense. Also these are vicious creatures and will destroy livestock as well as messing with your property and keeping the Turkey population nonexistent. God bless ya’ll and I think it’s awesome what you are doing and this is coming from a city gal that has never shot or killed anything in her life and likely never will. 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦🍁

I bring my boys trapping often, one of our favorite outdoor fun. Learned to put them up and even tanned some mink and otter.

Only because I don’t know, not a trapper, when you shoot an animal that you’ve trapped, where do you shoot them so that you don’t mess up the hide and that it kills them instantly.
I think Houston is an amazing young man, and has a great opportunity to learn with you Daniel . Merry Christmas to all of you and of course the animals.

Our ancestry, trapped and hunted to live on. There’s nothing wrong with it and carrying it forward and teaching your children is a wonderful thing. Well done nice video.

First time i heard Grow Jack Outdoors say he got a bobcat i was upset he would trap a bobcat..Why would you do that? Then he explained why and as much as I hated it, it made sense and I loved how he explained the reason behind trapping them and that's the same with you and Houston. Always explaining why you're doing what you're doing. You're educating people that don't know and I love that. Thank you very much and have a merry merry Christmas!

Brandon and Leighton Eddy do trapping as well. I am happy that Houston is learning the correct way so you can do it together. Merry Christmas to you all.

A few years ago, Grow Jack posted a video of setting his traps, and when he was sifting the dirt on it, it snapped. Took him a minute or two to recover from that startle😋
