He separated himself from something very special and exclusive, a typical thought that the grass was greener on the other side. This in itself is not a bad thing. If he had kept quiet, neither he nor we would be where we are today. Nobody blamed him for leaving; he is a human who has the right to decide. However, the way in which he did everything, all for a woman he didn't even know, was terrible. We only get a certain amount of time with our families and friends. Treasure them while they are here. Don't have regrets after the fact because they will last a lifetime. ✨️

    Loved this podcast! I
In Birmingham, in the 1960s, a friend of my family was a policeman's wife and the Ch.Constable turn down permission for her to take a job, but he allowed her to volunteer to take up the same work.
The reason given for the Ch.Constable's refusal was that she needed be there to look after him when he came home.
This had a very negative effect on the woman's marriage and she felt a lifelong resentment about being denied the chance for a career, just because of her husbands employment.

Thank you for spotlighting a little known historical era. Women detectives literally took their lives in their own hands to uncover crimes. At a time when women were supposed to be vapid and pretty, the bravery of the ladies was extroidinary.
As for Harry, I agree with you on most points. I do not like or approve of his behavior, but he is in an extremely personal, desperate situation. I believe if he knew his life would turn out the way it has, he would have made either a different choice or moved slowly. He is and will always be royal. He's made a huge error in judgment whilst placating his wife. Hopefully, he can get back to himself one day. We all deserve understanding and a little forgiveness. Though I don't think many people consider him forgivable for the way he treated his grandparents, especially. That period is very difficult to make peace with.
Thank you for another wonderful, informative show.

I have the same view as you Phil regarding Harry. I find it hard to dislike him even though I don't like some of the things he has done. There is, I believe, a real good side to him. I understand why some people have strong negative opinions regarding him but I really dislike the intolerance towards differing opinions because it just shuts down any real conversation. The relationship between Harry and William may never be what it once was but who knows what the future will bring. I am old enough to remember how hated Camilla was and never would I have imagined she could ever have been Queen but I went from being a hater to someone really likes her.

I say this sincerely- Harry and Meghan are good at connecting with crowds. If they had understood their personal strengths and weaknesses and listened to good advice there would be a place for them in public life. Long past time she got dumped but I don't see him ever integrated back into the Royal Family. How can he ever possibly rebuild trust with his family? As for harry (doesn't deserve a capital), I do hope that his tormented soul finds some peace while he goes about his royal (???!!!) tours but I still think he's a spineless grifting dolt with an Oedipus complex who has done more damage to his mother's memory than any tabloid. I appreciate your forgiving nature and should he find his way back into the fold, I hope he takes up residence a few time zones away. I clicked on to watch the interview and didn't expect some waffle about Harry first. I can't see the connection myself but since you brought the subject up, if he can reconcile with his family that's an entirely private affair. If he was my son or brother I doubt I'd be so forgiving. However, the late Queen was very clear, there can be no half in half out. He cannot be allowed to merch the monarchy. If that were to happen the UK would become a republic quicker that you can say God Save the King.
But to the main event, it was fascinating to hear about the female detectives. I'm hoping to attend Sara's talk at Toppings in St Andrews in person and have so many questions for her. Thank you for sharing this interview and if you drop the Harry propaganda i may even subscribe in the future.

Thank you Phil, you're promoted (or relegated!) to after lunch clean up during the T20 WC, especially for India Pakistan.
Many more strings to your bow than we realised. Must have been an amazing moment hearing your parents music and Mum singing when out clubbing! Get hold of the bands and see if they'll do a little plug for the podcast. What's the worst they could tell you, to stick underpants on your head, pencils up your nose, and say wibble?!!
Getting repetitive, but can only say great guest and conversation yet again.
Like last week there's themes of the terrible things that can happen when power imbalances occur, only seemingly (hopefully) on a much broader scale in the period covered.
It's interesting to learn that it's not just the stereotypical lack of agency for women at this time. Perhaps that attitude has been a little unhelpful if maybe well meaning to a degree. More a case of lack of recognition for what was done, both in the roles they did carry out, and in the general down grading of what they were "supposed" to be doing at the same time. Possibly worse than the idea of "just" being tied to the sink and not being "allowed" to participate.
In one way, the attitude taken must have been enormously helpful for women to be effective in roles it was presumed they wouldn't be doing, while not getting any of the credit deserved.

I wonder how a woman from Edinburgh got such a strong English accent? I think an Edinburgh accent is just gorgeous. Shame she lost it.
