Attention all car manufacturers. Just because you make an electric car, does not mean you have to go out of your way to re-invent the wheel with everything else. I just want to see a normal car with a good electric powertrain. I don't want these weird, awkward door handles, give me a normal interior with physical buttons, give me a normal glovebox. No one wants any of the manufacturers proprietary infotainment system, just leave it to Google and Apple. TLDR: Take a normal car like a Toyota Rav4 and replace the engine with a big elecrtic motor.
I miss my buttons, levers, switches and beep-boops. You could always find them and didn't have to worry about activating bunch of stuff because of a touchscreen.
I'm surprised more people haven't gotten into a wreck because they were just trying to turn down the ac down while having to go through 15 different submenus with a laggy and unresponsive touchscreen
@@squidwardo7074 I don't think most people can yet afford these cars; these are considered "premium" features. Wait until they trickle down to cheaper cars and become more widespread.
About that battery plant, I’m glad it is on hold! They are building on an aquifer and are refusing to have a plan for contamination. There’s a strong push by local developers and the electrical union but residents of the area are worried.
This is the car that finally matches its price point; luxurious, comfortable and quiet, with nice acceleration, it's awesome. I just wish that they didn't neuter the power down low by cranking up the traction control to 11. Seems a lot of automakers are trying to emulate gas cars rather than just being uniquely EV
It would be nice if you were able to review the smaller and lighter european EVs with 400km+ range. It's laughable that this car has a 100kWh battery, but can barely eek out more range than my own car with a 64kwh battery.
Why does every company that makes an electric car thinks they have to reinvite the door handle. Stop with the full tv screen for gauges and use real buttons.
It kinda miffs me that the door buttons are in the shape of door handles, are at the spot where you would expect door handles to be, but they... aren't the handles? They're just buttons and the actual handles are somewhere else?
For 60k and those specs, I think this might be the only electric car I would consider if I had the money to spend on one. It's competitively priced with ICE luxury SUVs and offers a ton for the money.
@@Gay-is-_-trash The car is not made in China. The vehicle is made in Spring Hill, TN, and the batteries are made in Lordstown, Ohio. In the earliest stage of production a few cars had batteries imported but from Korea (LG), not China. The quality issues in the US are stemming from a completely ground-up new platform, and are predominately software issues they are slowly patching.

Good luck getting that price from a dealer. If you try to order it online (or spec it really) dealers are already asking a minimum of $4,000 USD over MSRP. A disclaimer already states: "dealer sets final price." And that's BEFORE you get to the dealer. Just imagine the lovely surprises waiting for you once you get there.
Because in cars "luxury" is shit you don't need and usually end up costing money to fix down the line or that you end up forgetting about and never use anyway
The handle and door design mostly works in normal conditions. But did they ever try this in freezing conditions? I can already see how it will be almost impossible to open, because of ice buildup.

I've seen the glovebox critique before, strange how nobody notices how good that is for keeping things from getting stolen from the glovebox, I personally applaud that choice
This is why I have a Volt... It's a normal car with an electric drivetrain.... Wish GM had made a full size sadan with the voltec drivetrain.. or even the Colorado..
The fact that he describes it as feeling like a V8 tells me GM though about this car a lot then. Probably did a good bit of market research. My daily is an 06 Yukon Denali, and that nice effortless V8 torque in the midrange is one of my favorite things about it.
Honestly, I'm not suprised that the ride quality, road feel, rear tire grip, and overall luxury of this vehicle is so much higher than other EVs. Cadillac made luxury cars a thing, and refined the formula year after year.
I am just happy, that it seems that most car manufacturer finally got it in their heads, that absolutely NOBODY wants shitty touch screen only buttons that do not work half of the time. Not even the most tech enthusiastic people I know (including me), think that touch only is superior to just having a few nobs and switches.
Give Alex a drivers lincense that includes benefits of emergency driving and a racecar-racetrack one, so He can give these cars a performance test properly. He is great at reviewing cars. Way better than modern Top Gear..
My parents live almost quite literally a stones throw from the plant that is building the Lyriq, and they're building the battery plant immediately next to it. Every time I go over to my parents place, the battery plant keeps getting bigger and bigger. They don't have much more room to go other than up, so it's got to be closer to done.
I wasn't interested until I saw it has a hatch without being an SUV, and then the price. This is truly the Cadillac of EVs! I'd probably still get the Bolt if I had a garage and an outlet.
It's 100% an SUV, not a hatchback. SUVs have a much higher ride height and more lax safety regulation for pedestrian collisions since they're regulated as small trucks instead of cars. This is why the front is allowed to be so massive.
The audio in this video recorded inside the car sounds horrible when played at 1.5x speed in Google Chrome, which is very strange, since it sounds great at 1x. I've never noticed that happen on other videos; I wonder what is different.
It's completely identical, except worse because the "button" is moved so far from the part you grab to open the door. Why??? If you're going to go so far to copy mach-e's design, just go all the way and put the button near the grabby part like the mach-e.
So hold up. GM just straight up copied Ford's door design of the plunger inside the door, the winglet on the front doors, grabby inside of the rear doors, but made it worse by moving the "button" as far from the grabby parts as possible?
With land rovers pop out handles, if the battery dies and they aren't extended you can press on the front of them and the back side pops out. There must be some way to do something similar with this car
After test driving the ionic 5 and 6 (thanks for your reviews, they gave me the idea!) I heard that there's gonna be a new version of the hyundai kona electric in august. I'm very interested in it, I hope you guys get a chance to review it!
Electric sucks. Drive a normal car that's as expensive as your dumb EV. It may not be much better when you get inside, but it can drive across town without needing to be charged or overheating, and it won't blow up in 2 years
Wasn't aware taht they were changing platforms on the kona. I guess it's just gonna be an electric kona. And with their current pricing here atm at around 50-60k, I don't think that the ioniq5 or 6 is a worse deal. But you could also look into Kia's versions, they have the EV6, but no ioniq6 counterpart yet.
I feel like there needs to be more kickback on the decision to phase out CarPlay and Android Auto. Fundamentally, it is ALWAYS going to be better than having separate systems in the car, unless you can provide some way of activating and controlling mobile apps directly from the car. As it stands, I'm yet to see an infotianment system that will actively let me reference things like my locations (such as saved places in apps or contacts), or activate spotify or other music apps without me physically having to open the phone to get it working.
14:10 I wonder when car manufacturers are going to realise that stereo is absolutely fine. Most of the music you'll be playing won't be in surround sound anyway. I personally really like the setup in my old ford. Two full range (not sure if they are coax, never opened the door) speakers in the doors with two woofers in the front doors as well, and two full range speakers that are a little larger in the rear doors for the rear passengers. Plenty of low end, plenty of definition, you just need a better head unit because the speakers are extremely harsh in the 7-10.000khz range, so a little EQ'ing goes a long way.
i know it is not an EV but mustang 2024 seems to have a decent infotainment system, i know it would be pretty unlikely but maybe a video on it would be nice to see
The tester found the glove box opening via touch screen fairly annoying, yet they opened it in a second or two. And the point of the big bar on the steering wheel is that you see it (in the sense it's so large and takes up a relatively large amount of space ) and cannot miss it. That's a feature, not a problem. And as far as how many Lyrics have been sold, you can't have it both ways. GM sweats the details, which means a slower rollout, yet Tesla doesn't, so you get mediocre build quality and an 'Autopilot' which isn't.
My problem with the GM getting rid of carplay and Android Auto is for the Android automotive you presumably need to buy an internet plan through them and OnStar plans are overpriced And the cell phone company they use has terrible signal where I live.
True, on star plans are outrageously overpriced, however, the "unlimited" data plan in socal is $15 a month. The data plan is actually quite reasonable.
@@igeekone Yes, but the connected vehicle plan includes a bunch of extra stuff beyond just unlimited data. GM has said that all you would need is the unlimited data plan at $15 per month because the rest (google maps and assistant) would be included for 8 years.

If you haven't already you should review a Corolla Hybrid. Not because it is exciting, but because it provides a baseline to compare fancier cars. Is it worth it you know?
Always fun to look at videos of new cars, cause i have never even seen android auto or whatever in reality. The price of 70000 canadian dollars is interestingly low, but im still not gonna give three yearly salaries for a car..
hey all, cadillac technician here, what they don't tell you is that if you get into even a minor accident, you have to replace the whole battery. A charge goes off that disconnects the high voltage power and GM decided to put it inside of the battery pack. So tack on another 35k to whatever damages the car sustains.
I’m old fashioned. For as much as I’m amazed at the technology in cars I think touch screen controls is just stupid. It’s next best to impossible to accurately find, and operate, touch controls whilst driving. Give me a lot of proper buttons instead. With proper buttons you can feel, then memorise, buttons functions and locations making far easier to find, and push, whilst on the move. I not a big fan of digital dashboards either, I prefer the “old fashioned” analog dials.
I feel like the click on the knob sucks because it has to both rotate, and act as a d-pad, while being so oversized, i'd personally prefer something smaller, unless it doubled as a cup holder :P

Ok boomer.
@@mavfan1 lame
@@mavfan1nah, buttons are infinitely better for basic features
I imagine the issue is finding the euro EVs in the greater vancouver area
Use your brain. How can they get access to Euro exclusive Evs in Vancouver? Think idiot.
Yeah but how heavy and large are they?
I can't wait for when one of these goes up in the basement of a high rise residential building at 2am. Better still a carpark full of them.
Yeah, that's kind of annoying
For 60k and those specs, I think this might be the only electric car I would consider if I had the money to spend on one. It's competitively priced with ICE luxury SUVs and offers a ton for the money.
The batteries are going to catch on fire in less than a year. And they're made in China, so crappy Quality
@@Gay-is-_-trash made in china means crappy quality?
@@Gay-is-_-trash The car is not made in China. The vehicle is made in Spring Hill, TN, and the batteries are made in Lordstown, Ohio. In the earliest stage of production a few cars had batteries imported but from Korea (LG), not China. While GM is making Lyriqs in China, those are for the Chinese market and use a totally different battery solution from the one sold in the US. The quality issues in the US are stemming from a completely ground-up new platform, and are predominately software issues they are slowly patching.
@E T H E A R N O S Yeah where have you been the past 20 years
@@JoshuaDavenport Batteries are not made in ohio. Ohio is too smart to let people make time bombs in their state
Would love to see a video about the BMW i4, especially the non-M50 variants like the edrive40 or edrive35. There are so many M50 reviews out there, while the edrive is the variant most people will go for.
Same. Especially with the recent announcement of the i4 xDrive40.
"I'll take a knob over no knob anyday" yes great quote
Good luck getting that price from a dealer. If you try to order it online (or spec it really) dealers are already asking a minimum of $4,000 USD over MSRP. A disclaimer already states: "dealer sets final price." And that's BEFORE you get to the dealer. Just imagine the lovely surprises waiting for you once you get there.
I would gladly swap 5% of the cars battery to get normal door handles. Why do all EVs feel like they need to reinvent the wheel?
it helps with aerodynamics thus extending range
@@nicholaswilks580 Yes, I'd still prefer normal door handles.
Because in cars "luxury" is shit you don't need and usually end up costing money to fix down the line or that you end up forgetting about and never use anyway
i dont understand cutting out Carplay, thats like 50% of customers gone because they dont have that option
I would never buy a new car without CarPlay. What a stupid fucking decision. GM, you’re dumb.
I'm thinking it may have to do with GM collecting your data instead of it going to Apples servers. Then they sell your data to 3rd parties for money
The handle and door design mostly works in normal conditions. But did they ever try this in freezing conditions? I can already see how it will be almost impossible to open, because of ice buildup.
I mean Detroit lol
This is why EVs are garbage
@@Gay-is-_-trash You mean vehicle manufacturers that can get away with stupid shit because it's "new" and "tech." They need to learn that wheels don't need to be reinvented for no goddamn reason. Take a car that everyone loves, and add batteries, and change nothing else. That will sell.

So many bits and pieces like this giant buttons on the doors that will just break or become un-waterproof and let water anywhere inside in a few years... pure madness what manufacturers send into the world nowadays.
Love your car reviews! Please more and propably with some older cars? Can recomend to do it on a mk4 Golf :D
Greets from germany :P
I'm pretty sure they almost exclusively review new electric vehicles, but I'd love for another channel to cover it

Doors aren't waterproof and haven't been waterproof in the past. So the buttons don't even need to be watertight
@@Elektroreisen good luck opening your door with the wet and completely gunked electronics inside this buttons in future then. I had to change some doorlocks a few times now on my mk4 Golf and it was always a chip/sensor inside that gave up. There is allways a wire or a connector that gets moist and what not, i can't imagine how they made sure this buttons will be secure in 10-20 years. I don't want to say that it should be all mechanical, but i think (from the looks of how they are moving i did not see it close up and never touched them) this mashy buttons on the outside will not last very long and the failures would be awesome and a full list off. Maybe your door will just open randomly, not open at all or your heated seats will be always on... You know what i mean :D
And yes, i think a car should last longer then 20 years, the bigger it is the longer it should last or at least you should get the option to get new tech inside if for example the engines gives up or your seats or what ever. This short-term selling selling and selling is messing up with so much...
I've seen the glovebox critique before, strange how nobody notices how good that is for keeping things from getting stolen from the glovebox, I personally applaud that choice
We need an LMG Alex and Jake car review channel!!!!
I don't understand the obsession with reinventing the door handle. Anything that's not a standard handle is a deal killer
That giant sunroof might get annoying when the street lights come on
I can confirm that those seats are EXTREMELY comfortable.
Gotta have the best seat in the house when you're waiting for your car to blow up
I am just happy, that it seems that most car manufacturer finally got it in their heads, that absolutely NOBODY wants shitty touch screen only buttons that do not work half of the time.
They just filed to unionize too.
2:27 I'm glad the editor was having fun too
Yep laughed hard at this, thanks editor
My aunt and uncle were part of the team for this. My uncle is a team lead who worked on the drive train, and my aunt worked on vibrations.
No one cares.
One of my customers at work just got a Lyriq, its absolutely gorgeous!
Why does it seem like you are trying to talk loud quietly at the beginning of this. You guys are the best
The door handle situation is almost identical to mustang mach-e, when the plastic bit in the front
It's completely identical, except worse because the "button" is moved so far from the part you grab to open the door. Why??? If you're going to go so far to copy mach-e's design, just go all the way and put the button near the grabby part like the mach-e.
Watching this video at work while building the Lyriq.
I whip my cars alot, and touch controls on the sterring wheel are a no-go
11:59 i mean, where i live Mercedes has lvl 3 so you actually dont need to pay attention, which is really cool
The issue isnt just being janky but the fact that the compartment is located right where the dirt from the turning wheels is sprayed.
actually the best review of this vehicle that exists
Every Alex car review starts with something like "...this thing is awesome..." -.-
This car is Sick Keep making this Kind of stuff great work on these different Videos
I'll NEVER understand why EVERY SINGLE one of these new EVs just seemingly need to reinvent the door handle.
What would happen if you lived somewhere and that church door was ice up because sometimes that happens with my fuel filidor
How is the comfort compared to the e-tron you tested a while back? Please include more comparisons in your car reviews!
Today I learned Tidal still exists and has at least one user
I feel like there needs to be more kickback on the decision to phase out CarPlay and Android Auto. Fundamentally, it is ALWAYS going to be better than having separate systems in the car, unless you can provide some way of activating and controlling mobile apps directly from the car.
As it stands, I'm yet to see an infotianment system that will actively let me reference things like my locations (such as saved places in apps or contacts), or activate spotify or other music apps without me physically having to open the phone to get it working.
What happens if the door is covered with ice? I doubt that plunger is capable of breaking through a sheet of ice.
Like how he says: The charger is the only janky thing and then starts ranting about … the rest.
i know it is not an EV but mustang 2024 seems to have a decent infotainment system, i know it would be pretty unlikely but maybe a video on it would be nice to see
LTTs car review experiment will die soon if they keep reviewing EVs.... We are not stupid to the propaganda
I thought this came out a while ago? I was trying to convince my dad to get it instead of the Model Y.
Ok subhuman. Stop with the woke propaganda. We're tired of you

My problem with the GM getting rid of carplay and Android Auto is for the Android automotive you presumably need to buy an internet plan through them and OnStar plans are overpriced
And the cell phone company they use has terrible signal where I live.
True, on star plans are outrageously overpriced, however, the "unlimited" data plan in socal is $15 a month. The data plan is actually quite reasonable.
@@BubbaBearsFriend The cheapest Onstar plan that allows use of "In-Vehicle Apps," is the Connected Vehicle Plan for $24.90/mo or $299.90/yr.
@@igeekone Yes, but the connected vehicle plan includes a bunch of extra stuff beyond just unlimited data. GM has said that all you would need is the unlimited data plan at $15 per month because the rest (google maps and assistant) would be included for 8 years.

Honestly I would like the oil and gas companies to take over the charging infrastructure please. I don’t even have an electric car and I Constantly see out of order chargers. I find them interesting and always pop over to have a look, and it seems like they’re broken more often than not. While pumps at the gas station seem to have a pretty solid up time. The lack of care and attention here is kindof insane.
Maybe it’s just an eastern Canadian issue? But I doubt it is 😑
I wanna see a review of Alex's personal Golf!
Me too! Even better: compared to his car as an EV, the e-Golf (which was available since 2021 or so, and even beats the GTI to 60 or so, then the GTI obviously overtakes) 😁
I’m getting on average 4.6 kms per kw in my Lyriq and that’s mostly highway and I love the door handles they make the car special and a ounce mundane task of opening a door special.
@1:09 What sucks is these sorts of doors DO NOT work in freezing weather.

The little bump in the bottom of the rear seats is baffling to me. No idea why they would design it like that.
I like my glove boxes buttonless. That way you can actually store small expensive items without thieves being able to open it if they do break in.
