As someone that works on them. The 2023 have updates to the software. The center console is a know issue that was fixed in later models and the dealer will fix it in short time.
Time and time again these manufacturers let these cars go to production with known issues. Engineers on the front end of the business don't care about the money spent on the back end in service/warranty costs. Engineers only care about meeting production schedules.
How does poor glue make it past the quality control people? Are there any quality control people? Doesn't seem like it with new(er) cars. Maybe the cost of 4 bolts would have been a better idea?
@@jusdsun8319sadly, the issue is that we generally want to care, but having timing pushed up and constant pushes for cost-cutting efforts makes it really hard to do anything about it. Trust me, I guarantee the engineers brought up the likelihood of warranty issues. But it was hand-waved away because it's cheaper up front, and the program manager gets rewarded for that now, and will have moved on to another role by the time those warranty costs become an issue for the next newly promoted sap taking their place.

The problem with all the driver assist stuff is that it still expects the driver to take over at fraction of a second notice when it screws up, the bad news is that the more driver assist you have the drive pays way less attention to the road.... A recipe for disaster.
Absolutely agree. I just cannot see true autonomous driving happening before there's a slew of lawsuits for "corner cases." A "corner case" is that one-in-a-million situation that the programmers didn't plan for, so instead of running over the five nuns crossing the street, it veers over and hits "only" one baby carriage. Seems like a lot of nightmare lawsuits will happen for them before they get it to be better than a human driver. I agree. A spare tire is such valuable insurance. 24/7 roadside assistance is great, but if you're not near a big city it can be a long wait. The spare tire shouldn't be sacrificed.
Honestly if I had to guess i would say only 10% who drive actually know how to properly change a flat tire with a spare, i always said that changing a spare tire should be mandatory in drivers ed instead of parallel parking
@@cytherians I used to work for a fleet management company and one year all of this one companies new fleet of Chevy Malibus all came with a pump/fix-a-flat setup vs a spare tire. I guess they had a few issues where sales reps cut a tire where the fix-a-flat would not work so we got a request to take all of the hundreds of Malibus already in service into dealerships to have a spare tire installed. They also changed all of their future orders to include a spare from the get go.
I am torn on this. A spare tire is good insurance. I know how to install them. That being said, though I have had spare tires in every car I have owned, I have only used a spare tire once in my driving history. And I grew up living on dirt roads. So, in 30 years of driving and half a million miles, I'm not sure I would pay extra for one. But, it all depends on how you maintain your vehicles and where you drive. If you run crap tires and don't replace them when they're worn out, you're going to need a spare. And if you don't maintain your vehicle, a spare isn't always going to save you.

I just don't get the mindset. You got rid of the Cybertruck in part because you didn't want to "pay to be a beta tester." With EV's (and even newer ICE cars), you will ALWAYS be a "beta tester." The software is constantly being updated, and you're paying to test whether or not those updates work. It's complete insanity when you think about it. A software update could brick any part of the system. There's a chance it could be a critical component, and you won't find out about it until you need to use said component.

In the old days they didn't have computers powerful enough to analyse failure rates of parts with a lot of precision, so they took big margins of errors and made solid parts that didn't break. Now they can design a part to last just enough for warranty, so they can optimise their profits. If you want quality buy Toyota, GM products should be leased.

GM has massive work to catch up as Tesla sells 10x their nearest competitor, which is Ford. Tesla quality is improving by leaps already comparable to Toyota and using brand won't stand up. Now Chevys new ev truck, that is a homerun, good quality, excellent range, and perfect utility.
@HooviesGarage I'm sure hundreds of Tesla owners have already told you but the full self driving does have the eye tracking system to make sure you're paying attention to the road and the software can also detect the steering wheel weights. The full self driving also works on all roads, not just major highways/interstates. It also stops at stop signs and red lights, changes lanes and passes on its own, navigates roundabouts etc... FYI...Tesla DOES have a camera monitoring your eyes to make sure you are paying attention. It works quite well now. The nag of the steering wheel is a carry over from years ago and in FSD V12.4 goes away as long as the camera can see your eyes.
Tesla does actually have cameras that check if you look at the road, and gives you warnings if you dont. If the behaviour repeats it turns off autopilot until next drive, and with multiple repeats autopilot will be blocked for a week I think.

Here in the UK most, if not all new cars, don't come with spare wheels. Its mainly to do with emission and fuel consumption figures. If the car weighs less then it uses less fuel etc etc which then produces less emissions which means it falls into a cheaper tax bracket so its more attractive to potential customers. Its also better for manufacturers as they don't have to supply spare wheels/jacks. The fact you're stuck at the side of the road with a puncture is our problem not theirs.
They claim it's for emissions and fuel economy. It's really a cost-cutting measure. No spare tire offered means they don't need to engineer a place to put it, nor do they need to pay to manufacture extra wheels or special space-saver spare tires. They can save a couple hundred bucks per car, and pass the savings on to the executives.
The last 2 cars we've had had "conventional" tyres rather than run flats, they did supply a can of gunk which thankfully we haven't had to use yet. And that raises another problem as once you've used the gunk then the tyre must be scrapped and can't be repaired. So instead of a simple cheap repair you're on the hook for a new tyre. My colleague needed a new tyre last week after hitting a pothole and the soonest the garage could get him booked in was 3 days later despite the fact they had the tyre in stock, its a company car so we are at the mercy of the lease company. It took them 2 days to get a rental car to him ! All for the sake of a stupid tyre ! Its maddening.
@@jbconno Cans of gunk are normally only suitable as a desperate Halfords purchase when your rental car gets a slow puncture before you return it. Your own car needs a proper spare wheel and tyres of decent aspect ratio so that the wheels don't crack when meeting potholes.

Currently, there are no electric cars that offer full, level 5 autonomous driving capabilities on all streets. Level 5 autonomy refers to a fully autonomous vehicle that can drive itself in any condition, without any human input or supervision. Your honest comparisons were incredibly helpful, and it’s clear you put a lot of thought and effort into creating this review. Looking forward to more of your content!
Nice video - several clarifications... One pedal driving does not get better efficiency - Lyriq has a blended braking system - just a different way of driving the car. Software bugs were mentioned, but there have also been plenty of dead Lyriqs also due to 12V system issues. The center console lid falling apart is a known issue - TSB for dealer to re-glue.
@@jochenstacker7448 As mentioned, Lyriq has a blended braking system. When you use the regular brake pedal, the regen happens there also - doesn't use the friction brakes unless you panic stop. It will apply the friction brakes to hold the car when stopped, same as one-pedal does as you slow. Regen is occurring with the brake pedal application, throttle lift off, or with the paddle on the steering wheel. Just a different way of controlling the stopping of the car, no difference in efficiency for the same stopping rate - the amount of regen recapture is the same.
@@rsewill12 That is correct on the ELR, but not correct for the Lyriq. The last stopping is done with the friction brakes, and the friction brakes hold the car when stopped. On the ELR, the paddle will only slow the vehicle - but not bring it to a complete stop. Lyriq also has a variable control for the paddle, where with the ELR it is on/off only. And also, if regen is limited due to high battery state of charge or cold temperature, it will mix in friction braking to cause the same decel rate - also something the ELR doesn't do.
A receptionist where I used to work had a Cadillac. I do not recall exactly what model it was. When she was no longer driving it I asked her what happened to it. She said the thing had electrical issues in the dashboard. Glitches like that seem to be a thing with GM products. I cannot imagine owning one of these things where everything is electrical. Hoovie should start looking for a flat bed tow truck because he is going to need one.
I drive a Cadillac lyric, sometimes for work. And was wondering if anyone else’s had complete and total brake failure as I experienced in the Cadillac lyric. Luckily I was able to roll to a stop at a red light in the appropriate distance, and I didn’t hit anyone or anything.
I think the spare tire issue is mostly about money. It's something the company can cut out of the car to save money and most people don't realize how important it is of a feature. The other fact is Cell phones exist. A spare tire used to be a potentially life saving feature. If you got a flat tire out in the middle of no where you were out of luck, stranded to walk to the nearest phone or hope for a ride. Now you get a flat, call AAA or what ever service you use and thats it. The threat of being stranded is fairly low unless you actually manage to break down in an area without coverage.
That light projects their logo onto the ground when you approach it at night. I rented a hybrid once. You will see it on their other brands as well. It comes on when the key is within range to operate.
Why in the world would any "car guy" actually want the car to drive itself? That's absurd. Cruise control gives my foot a rest. Ok there. Stability control keeps my Z06 out of the ditches. Ok there. Air bags. Ok in case I mess up W-A-Y too big. Crash bars in the doors. OK in case I mess up W-A-Y too big. The rest of that stuff.... keep and and don't charge so much for a car.
Personally I love the new self driving features and can't wait until the majority of the terrible drivers in my area get them... Distracted weaving over lane lines, poor merging, lack of signaling and emergency cutting across multiple lanes to make your exit will be a thing of the past.
I will answer this as a car guy: Supercruise is great for an extra set of eyes around you on the highway - it allows YOU as a driver to look further ahead and behind you while the car watches the road and the perimeter. Super amazing on long trips on the highway. My Yukon XL is amazing to take on long trips and it takes some of the pressure off of you as the driver. Again: I use it as a second set of eyes, not so much a hands off the wheel kind of drive. I am still prepared in the event of a need for an evassive maneuver.
@@toesuf94 Driver aids are one thing... I have a 23 Ridgeline w/tech package... so I get that. But to be hands off means BRAINS OFF. Instead of dumbing down drivers.. let increase capabilities of them. IMO a BMV (DMV) test ought to include sliding a car sideways on a wet skid pad.
The 2 valve stems are for the TPMS sensor. It is a reverse mount wheel, to have room to mount the wheel and not damage the sensor it needs to be at the back. The other is a regular valve stem so the wheels are servicable from the outside.
Anyone that doesn’t use cruise control is a scourge of humanity. Funny story, I was dating a girl that told me when she bought her car, she specifically requested a car without cruise control. We were in law school so she wasn’t dumb. We didn’t last long after that. I had to explain the car can have the feature of cruise control, and you can just choose not to use it. So she basically bought the only car on the lot where that wasn’t an option. Unreal. I bet the salesman still tells that story over beers.
I don’t use it, but then again the longest I’ve been on a single highway was only about an hour and a half. I’m not even sure if the cruise control on my car works. Also when my car was made ABS was an option but cruise control was standard.
8:33 My biggest gripe about GM's SuperCruise ("Level 2.5 Automation - e.g. "Lane Centering Adaptive Cruise Control) is that it (thus far) only works on... Certain interstate Highways that they've mapped out. Meanwhile... the Pilot Assist 2 on our 2016 (built August 2015, so just about NINE YEARS OLD now...) had the identical features to Tesla's "Autopilot" (also Level 2.5 Automation... full lane centering Adaptive Cruise Control all the way down TO a stop, and then FROM a stop with a lead vehicle ahead of you, or 20 mph otherwise...) On *every road, all the time*. If the road is TOO curvy, you still have to help, but gentle bends in the road? Not a problem. I turn on Pilot Assist the second we're out of our little neighborhood, and the mental load of driving around the city is reduced by...probably 40%. It's not gonna drive you around, but normally stressful situations like stop and go traffic at rush hour are filled with a zen-like bliss as the car just casually maintains the distance to the car ahead of you...whether that's on the freeway, or just an Main Arterial (45 mph) or Feeder (35 mph) road. Not just "certain interstates"... And also none of that Tesla Stank.
a "scourge of humanity" for not using an optional feature in a car such as cruise control? What's your moral equivalent of a serial rapist? Asking for a friend.
My friend who worked for AAA can tell you why spares are going away. Yes yes CAFE regulations, but mostly it's because with smartphones and Uber, people won't use them. He showed up many times for a tow, to find a customer with a flat tire, and a spare available. He'd offer to install the spare so they could be on their way and go to the tire shop whenever it's convenient for them, and they'd refuse. See they had an Uber arriving in 2 minutes and they just wanted to give him their keys and have him drop the car off at the tire shop. They can't be bothered to drive themselves to a tire shop, let alone install a spare themselves.
I found this guy today. I think it's funny how he's a millionaire who buys stuff I'll probably never even sees, the world crashes around him and through the magic of TH-cam he never loses.
I found him years ago when he posted a video about his Ferrari catching fire. That just about sums up the channel. p.s. If you haven't realised he seems to have an extremely rich Father, who literally owns an aircraft hanger to house his car collection and have parties in.
Coming from an IT background, the problem with putting so much under the control of software is the software is not designed to be able to cope with hardware errors, all the testing is invalidated. This was proven with an electric MG recently in the UK when a guy suffered an electronics failure that caused both pedals and parking brake to become inoperative, with the car steadily driving at 30mph. There was no override in the cabin that allowed the driver to switch off or stop the vehicle. As far as I'm concnerned, such vehicles are too dangerous to pass safety tests and shuold not be sellable to the public. There was a story on public news about it.
That is not true, automotive software is designed to cope with HW errors. There is a norm for that : ISO26262. Some car manufacturer are way more relaxed towards it though. For sure most of the Chinese manufacturers, even Tesla to some extent. This norm is one of the main reason why your car evolves a lot slower than your phone for example.
@@madisons31agreed. MG aside (which is Chinese vehicle with known brake failure issues), almost all ADAS / FSD software are programmed to deal with HW failure such as that and if not automatically disengaged, can be stopped multiple ways (brakes, steering wheel, autopilot button, or touchscreen).
IT software is a world away from automotive software. Apples and oranges. The amount of test cases, coverages, traceability, functional safety, etc that is needed to achieve ASIL-D will drive any normal software developer mad. There are so many fail safes. The older OEMs, American, European, Japanese, korean all follow this.

It looks like a urinal on wheels, or an escaped utility sink. Congratulations on getting out of your copy while the getting is good. Honestly, all non hybrid EVs are a stupid idea. The national electric grid is nowhere near where it would need to be to support large numbers of vehicles being plugged in at night, especially since they will be competing for power with air conditioners, electric hot water heaters, washer dryers and electric stoves. Time and time again these manufacturers let these cars go to production with known issues. Engineers on the front end of the business don't care about the money spent on the back end in service/warranty costs. Engineers only care about meeting production schedules.

I hate this marketing BS towards cost cutting.
Gas cars want better MPG ratings, also more advertised storage. Sounds like no run flats on this since all the talk of smooth ride.

While I'd buy a Caddy ICE car (made 2005 or so and before, mind you) all day, I wouldn't even waste a brain cell on the consideration of one of their EV's.
Personally, fetus, I wouldn't buy any EV, period. I would only buy one if I were driving short distances every day, and I had a home where I could charge them (outside) at night. I have the short distance requirement, but not the home. Since I don't know if I want to stay in the country, let alone my current area, I'm just renting my property.
They are fitted, largely, with run flat tyres with a can of tyre foam in the boot so not completely stranded, dependent on tyre damage.
@@leccybadger I think run flat tyres are still relatively rare. The spray can is the best we get.

12:50 "this does have the supercruise fully developed and it's usable..."
11:46 "we'll get onto the highway, that is the one limitation of supercruise" - pretty big limitation
Currently, there are no electric cars that offer full, level 5 autonomous driving capabilities on all streets. Level 5 autonomy refers to a fully autonomous vehicle that can drive itself in any condition, without any human input or supervision. This level of autonomy is still in the research and development stage, and is not yet available to consumers.
@@newgravityfilms correct, but Tesla fsd beta or supervised or whatever it is called is already light years better than this.
Once again making the Car Wizard contemplate retirement.
Weirdly enough, the caddy has the best looking grill, outta any EV right now
And that’s saying a lot, because it’s really ugly.
No way. 😆
Nah Rolls-Royce has it beat.
Cadillacs have looked like shit ever since they ditched the Art and Design ethos. I would never buy another, EV or not.
@@sailirish7 id buy their performance v8 cars, and that's it. The only EV I would own is a taycan
Adaptive and predictive cruise, lane departure warnings it's all great till it stops working. Every modern semi has these, including the visual eye detection for those long haulers.
The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?
You'll enjoy knowing that I'm a DeLorean owner and an engineer at GM that works on the Lyriq. :)
Hoovie and the Wizard are one of my favorite duos in carland youtube
Thank you so much for this fantastic video! Selling your Tesla for the Cadillac Lyriq was an interesting choice, and I appreciate how detailed you were in explaining your decision. Your insights into the pros and cons of both vehicles, from performance to features, really gave me a comprehensive understanding of what the Lyriq has to offer.
One pedal driving should get better efficiency since energy is recaptured via regen.
@@billjohnson3344 oh, clever, I like.
@@billjohnson3344 Hi Bill, how’s the ELR! Only using the paddle you know you aren’t using any friction braking.
And also, if regen is limited due to high battery state of charge or cold temperature, it will mix in friction braking to cause the same decel rate - also something the ELR doesn't do.
great episode. Thanks for going over the new Caddy. Another awesome Toyota / Lexus commercial! 👍
Our 2018 equinox was rock solid when we sold it with 55,000 miles. CarPlay even worked without crashes.
gm is LOW on the quality level, guess who's making them? haha
Everytime i hear 'super-cruise', I think of Terry Crews in a cape.
I am still prepared in the event of a need for an evassive maneuver.

an overhead service would be so much easier than trenching through concrete.
im thinking because he lives in tornado country it needs to be trenched?
Where we live all new connections have to be underground, and if you lose your overhead you have to replace it with underground service.
They will just use a drill to tunnel sideways under the concrete. Then just drill a hole down to the tunnel.
The 2 valve stems are for the TPMS sensor. It is a reverse mount wheel, to have room to mount the wheel and not damage the sensor it needs to be at the back. The other is a regular valve stem so the wheels are servicable from the outside.
Yess a new hoovies video I sure hope you start making more videos I enjoy good morning TH-cam as well but you don't make as many videos as you used to
10:29 "So if it fails you can still see behind you." You mean "when" it fails, Wizard.
As a Tesla owner who enjoys their Tesla... Great trade Hoovie.
Meanwhile... the Pilot Assist 2 on our 2016 (built August 2015, so just about NINE YEARS OLD now...) had the identical features to Tesla's "Autopilot" (also Level 2.5 Automation... full lane centering Adaptive Cruise Control all the way down TO a stop, and then FROM a stop with a lead vehicle ahead of you, or 20 mph otherwise...)
On *every road, all the time*.
And also none of that Tesla Stank.
yeah, haha, DON'T USE IT.
a "scourge of humanity" for not using an optional feature in a car such as cruise control? What's your moral equivalent of a serial rapist? Asking for a friend.
Do you realize how idiotic you sound when you write things like this?
Pathetic - “old Gen Xer”
I found this guy today. I think it's funny how he's a millionaire who buys stuff I'll probably never even sees, the world crashes around him and through the magic of TH-cam he never loses.
I found him years ago when he posted a video about his Ferrari catching fire. That just about sums up the channel. p.s. If you haven't realised he seems to have an extremely rich Father, who literally owns an aircraft hanger to house his car collection and have parties in.
So you got rid of a car that depreciates at $15k a year to one that losses $10k a year. Hoovie is a true move maker.
I can tell you are from an IT background and not a software background

Wow my 2019 Colorado had problems with Apple CarPlay crashing the entire infotainment system constantly. Amazing GM still, after 4-5 years, hasn’t been able to figure that out and fix it.
Make sure you look up how to get the hatch open to get into the lyric when the battery bricks.
Is it different from how you get into a Tesla when the battery bricks?
Rear view mirror camera, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and backup cameras are nice. But a legal disclaimer every single time you start, lane alert, collision warning alert, pedestrian alert, seat belt alert that won’t shut off after 3-4 dings, ICE cars with stop-start, and telemetry to tattle to my insurance company are deal breakers for me.
To be fair that's like every new car tho

Tesla Full Self Driving does have all of that functionality, including eye-tracking, and also includes self driving on surface/city streets, and anywhere you choose to drive. They've done away with the steering wheel nag recently. Tesla FSD is available on the S, X, 3 and Y. FSD is not yet available on the Cybertruck, but slated to be soon. 😃
Living in Tacoma Washington, I just got to see a Tesla truck in the wild over the weekend. IMHO it is the ugliest vehicular-pos on the road. But of course you making questionable decision is the point of your excellent channel! Onward and downward!!

Completely agree with not ever using that silly tech.
It’s merely a ploy to keep the price of these vehicles sky high.
