Minor note for the editor: 350kW charging, not kWh. Kilowatts are a unit of power, which is what you’re measuring for charge speed. Kilowatt-hours are a unit of energy, which is what you’re measuring for how much of the battery capacity you charged.
In addition to this, E-GMP vehicles can not charge at 350KW. There max is around 235KW. The website is alittle misleading in its wording. "When charging at 350kW with the ultra-speed charging function, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes." In order to get the max charge power you have to charge at a 350KW DC Fast Charger, which would allow you to reach the cars max charge power of 235KW.
I feel like the design of this car is gonna grow on me. Similar to how the new gen Elantra's have grown on me. Hyundai/Genesis are really taken chances on their designs, and I'm all for it. Hopefully other car brands start taking after them
Hi alex! I own a 2022 genesis g70 with the Lexicon speaker system, and theres a couple things id like to let you know about!! In my genesis, when you use apple carplay or android auto, the sound quality is pretty reduced. When you use the bluetooth functionality that works great, however, the sound quality is amazing. I think this may be the source of your very mid sound experience in the car! Also, as for the sound stage, there is a setting to change the surround sound from « in the audience » to « on stage ». For me, this hugely improved the surround sound in the car. Thanks so much for checking out genesis and always making great videos!!! Have a wonderful day :)
@@AlexPotvin Youre right, its pretty annoying! thankfully the infotainment in genesis is really snappy and fast, so its not PAINFUL to not use carplay lol
The Tesla commentary about nanny's kicking in is very misleading. (8:40) . The Model Y Performance has an extremely versatile and adjustable track mode that allows adjustable front / rear torque vectoring and traction assist levels from 0 to 10 (and includes presets like Drift Mode). Not to take away from the GV60, but this is a poor mark on the review that shows an incorrect comparison. Tesla's implementation is very, VERY good, not at all close to the illustration in this review.
Every single Hyundai/Kia group car review from this channel has had the incorrect charging speed quoted. Max speed is 240kW on a 350kW charger...the E-GPM vehicles cannot charge at 350kW.
@@sentryion3106 yeah it's sad. i hate driving SUVs and cross overs feel weird. They use soo much more energy too so it's sad this is the way we are going. unless these same people have solar panels and are powering the cars 100% solar/renewable it feels very wasteful energy wise.
@@robertt9342 I disagree. Tesla’s model 3 isn’t luxury class that’s its model S. Everything competitive with Tesla is more against the S but for less than it is the model 3.
Love the review! The speakers were what let me down when testing this car and drove me to the Model Y. I love a long car ride, and some loud music to go with it; the Tesla system was a surprise winner outside of the super expensive optional speakers in cars from Merc, BMW, and Volvo. Otherwise, the Genesis was a more special car to be in. Range and charging was also a big factor in picking the Tesla. The main downside is the build quality of the Tesla... rattles in a $65k car is super disappointing. Good review!
I would disagree with the design, but I think the color on this car matters. Someone in my parking garage has this car in Green(I guess they call it "SAO PAULO LIME "), and it looks amazing. I originally though it was an Aston Martin.
I actually really like the look of the vehicle. Not a fan of that particular color nor white interior...but the shape and style is very nice. As far as who it's made for, it reminds me of the Lexus RX series in the same sense of comfort and some pep to it's step. If I could afford a car, and was going to get an EV then both of the Genesis EVs you've reviewed would probably be at the top of my list.
Yeah, I'm a fan of all the EGMP-platform EVs, but I think it's weird that a lot of reviewers I watch seem to love the styling of the Ioniq 5 and the EV6, but think the GV60 looks ugly. I think they are all pretty striking, but also a little head-tilting in their own way. None of them looks fully "normal." And of the three, I think the GV60 is the most traditionally handsome.
In future videos, would you please take a minute or two to go over storage/cargo space? We all know that "frunks" are terrible, but one of the primary reasons to get a hatchback is the rear cargo area.
The empty slot on the passanger side where the mirror adjustment is on the driver side, is most likely done like that to make it possible to move the adjustment for cars in England etc where they drive on the opposite side.
Interesting tidbit - the i-pedal mode doesn't last through key cycles (latch) for EPA/mileage reasons. This platform is the only other vehicle besides the Rivian that has an active driveline disconnect - basically, it disconnects the front axle under light load/cruising conditions for better efficiency. This feature is disabled in i-pedal mode, I presume for stability reasons (driving all that regen into the back axle in a low mu situation would probably be bad). But, this means i-pedal is likely worse for highway fuel efficiency. And you have to certify your mileage for the least efficient mode that persists between sleep cycles. This is also why your auto stop-start re-engages every time you shut the car off, and most ICE vehicles default to the eco/normal mode even if you park them in Spot.
Y'know what? I kinda get the styling Reminds me of the atomic-age styling in the '50s and '60s and how things were made to mimic jet fighters. The colour's also reminiscent of that, I like it!
I wasn't too interesting until you mentioned it has an infinite baffle subwoofer. I'm not too surprised it's not good at clarity, but I've always wanted to put one in a car. Extremely interesting design choice. Granted, someone else has probably also done something like this but I haven't really looked for like a decade.
In July 2022, Reuters reported that SMART, a Hyundai subsidiary in Luverne, Alabama, U.S.A. had hired minors as young as 12 years old to work in one of its metal stamping plants.
I kinda like then look of it, though i dont really like fake grilles, or excessively large ones for that matter and i still dont like those door handles. Also the front compartment seems reasonable to store accessories, like for example charging cables. But what annoys me more then it probably should is people using kWh and kW wrong.
12:20 passing on a double solid yellow in clear conditions isn't illegal in Ontario! They're just a guideline, we have dedicated no-passing signage. The double yellow is for fining someone in result of an accident.
As a person with a child. I’m just imagining Hot Cheeto dust getting on that shifter and then that Cheeto dust forever being stuck in the console when it flips.
I own a Kia EV6 GTLine2 and there's no way I could justify jumping to the GV60. As beautiful as the interior and tech are, I can't do it. The trunk won't automatically open if the doors are unlocked
I think the lack of a frunk is due to the fact that the electric sled concept where the batteries, electrical components and motors at the wheels, is expensive to engineer and manufacture. It is supposed to be easier because one sled design can have multiple bodies on top, but it may have turned out to be impractical. All the large amperage equipment and the cooling required means it’s easier to put that stuff up front like a traditional engine.
As an Ioniq 5 owner: Same frunk/froot as an AWD Ioniq 5 (RWD is a bit bigger) Same cargo cover as Ioniq 5 (sucks I don't have it in my car, collecting dust in my garage somewhere) Same I-pedal software issue (putting I pedal off, but I'm used to driving in lvl 3 now and using the left steering wheel pedal to brake extra and hold to stop the car's crouching away) Way more horsepower in this one, o m g! Awesome gearshifter, I want that! I don't think I would switch but I wouldn't mind it as an extra car lol
I hated this car when I first saw it but it's been growing on me. In fact the whole genesis brand is slowly becoming one of my favorites, mainly because they are keeping a lot of manual controls and the cars are really good quality
Light colored interiors are much better for warmer climates. They may not make sense in Canada but in, for example, Las Vegas where I live and it hits >100 F in the summer, the lighter color makes a big difference in terms of interior temperature when you get in the car.
I think acceleration never comes over quite right in a video. Maybe you could add a visual aid, like some thing hanging from the rear view mirror or interior roof which yould be pulled back by the accleration?
I was pretty disappointed with the B and O system in my F150 too, especially considering that it's a paid option. I always thought they were supposed to be higher end, but seems like they are either just not a good system, or they are allowing their name to be used as a gimmick.
they are probably just installing the cheapest B&O system just to say its got one rather than actually trying to provide a better audio experience. I'm starting to see B&O everywhere and I suspect B&O is just trying to profit from brand recognition.
it's wild seeing car reviews cause I see reviewers complaining about the most amazing things to me, I think a car is cool if it just has a screen instead of an old radio
Light interiors are like piano black gloss, they look amazing until they actually come in contact with anything. Would love to see more "realistic" cars covered too.
I'd love to see more affordable EVs for the masses! In general of course but there's a lack of LTT EV reviews with affordable ones. IIRC they never mentioned the MG 4. But I understand it's more enthusiastically enjoyable to watch these expensive EV reviews and at least they progress the technology!
Same i-pedal sillyness on the Ioniq 5 and yes, I also almost crash into the wall every time I get in. There's huge forum posts about this, everyone wants it to default on except Hyundai for some reason. Also let me have it when backing up. Please. Please 🙏
"(on frunk) yea no one has really done anything with that idea", except Tesla where you can store a cabin trolley + misc. Why the Germans (ID + Enyaq) cannot even fit anything there is beyond me. Its a huge deal when you are traveling with a big family.
Your “kinda the best” comment. As a Tesla fan, I agree. Tesla is resting and hasn’t innovated in making a better car recently. Automation stuff they are doing is cool, but doesn’t impact me as a potential customer. Right now, I would consider the IONIQ 5
When you said performance model and pointed to the R, I hope you know that is actually to describe the tires are for a 21 inch wheel. Or maybe you were pointing to something else
One pedal driving is not efficient, for effectivity is better to left kinetic energy in the car movement, and control recuperation intensity by break pedal just when need to slow or break.
If you think that cargo cover is terrible, try living with the one of the Model Y, it's awful! You have to hold it up to get underneath it, it won't stay put...
About the audio, that's the thing I kinda dislike about B&O. It's either stinky because it's mid or it's stinky because it's loud, as DankPods' Wade Nixon would describe it.
“I hate that when electric vehicles started getting popular we were promised that they would all have a frunk” huh? Who told you that? Who’s making promises like that to you?
Whoever it was, they failed to take into account that cars like the EV6 have such short, packed front ends that the froot isn’t big enough to hold anything beyond your charging cable anyway.

And that shouldn't be a problem. It's an oversight that the quality is lessened.
I really liked the Lexicon system in the G80.. this is not as good.
@@alexanderclark9719 Does it still sould as bad when playing through bluetooth and not through android/apple auto?
@@AlexPotvin Youre right, its pretty annoying! thankfully the infotainment in genesis is really snappy and fast, so its not PAINFUL to not use carplay lol
Bro deserves a pay rise, I always watch the car reviews by him over other professional car reviewers :)
Only people I trust along with The Straight Pipes
@@NoahVanNest1 the straight pipes are pretty boring though, Throttle House is miles better tbh
I really want to see more EVs that are sedans that actually compete with the tesla model 3. Most are luxury vehicles and SUVs or both.
The market for sedan is shrinking so oem wants to focus on cross over and suv first. Sedans will come later like the Ioniq 6
@@sentryion3106 yeah it's sad. i hate driving SUVs and cross overs feel weird. They use soo much more energy too so it's sad this is the way we are going. unless these same people have solar panels and are powering the cars 100% solar/renewable it feels very wasteful energy wise.
As for luxury vehicles, well electric cars cost a lot, they almost have add luxury to create values, cause it’s expensive either way.
I originally though it was an Aston Martin.
hahahahaha
I actually really like the look of the vehicle. Not a fan of that particular color nor white interior...but the shape and style is very nice. As far as who it's made for, it reminds me of the Lexus RX series in the same sense of comfort and some pep to it's step. If I could afford a car, and was going to get an EV then both of the Genesis EVs you've reviewed would probably be at the top of my list.
Yeah seems like regular cars are almost as expensive as houses now. Even used cars are over $15k USD.
@@kingzach74. Depends on age, model, mileage.
We all know that "frunks" are terrible, but one of the primary reasons to get a hatchback is the rear cargo area.
the good thing about the lack of turning radius is that remote parking is standard and you can do it from outside the vehicle
The empty slot on the passanger side where the mirror adjustment is on the driver side, is most likely done like that to make it possible to move the adjustment for cars in England etc where they drive on the opposite side.
I feel like this is the car for the middle aged dad, that needed to please the dragon and got a sporty car that's also good to have kids in.
I kinda get the styling
Reminds me of the atomic-age styling in the '50s and '60s and how things were made to mimic jet fighters.
In July 2022, Reuters reported that SMART, a Hyundai subsidiary in Luverne, Alabama, U.S.A. had hired minors as young as 12 years old to work in one of its metal stamping plants.
keep the EV coverage coming!
🚀Let’s Talk I got something for you
I feel like ShortCircuit just became an Alex EV car review channel first and foremost... and I'm not mad about it.
I kinda like then look of it, though i dont really like fake grilles, or excessively large ones for that matter and i still dont like those door handles. Also the front compartment seems reasonable to store accessories, like for example charging cables.
But what annoys me more then it probably should is people using kWh and kW wrong.
Appreciate the nerdy graphs that can be paused and looked at without wasting minutes reading them to the viewer.
12:20 passing on a double solid yellow in clear conditions isn't illegal in Ontario! They're just a guideline, we have dedicated no-passing signage. The double yellow is for fining someone in result of an accident.
When he brought Linus on I thought this was his new car for a moment.
It looks like a car the old SsangYong made if they're going into EV market.
As a person with a child. I’m just imagining Hot Cheeto dust getting on that shifter and then that Cheeto dust forever being stuck in the console when it flips.
holy shit
2:53 i think you were supposed to type kw and not kwh. those are two very different things. 🙂
Alex please do performance cars as well, M5, C63 etc. You cover things a lot of other reviewers over look.
It's not illegal to pass on a double yellow, just a bad idea. Yellow lines are "make your best effort" and solid white lines are "do not touch".
As an Ioniq 5 owner:
Same frunk/froot as an AWD Ioniq 5 (RWD is a bit bigger)
Same cargo cover as Ioniq 5 (sucks I don't have it in my car, collecting dust in my garage somewhere)
Same I-pedal software issue (putting I pedal off, but I'm used to driving in lvl 3 now and using the left steering wheel pedal to brake extra and hold to stop the car's crouching away)
Way more horsepower in this one, o m g!
0:12 coming from the man who happily drives a chevy volt
*Volt not Bolt, although he recently got a Porsche
@@ahwleung sorry not north american gm doesnt exist where i live
Light colored interiors are much better for warmer climates. They may not make sense in Canada but in, for example, Las Vegas where I live and it hits >100 F in the summer, the lighter color makes a big difference in terms of interior temperature when you get in the car.
Best car review yet. Alex just keeps getting better and better.
i guess taste really is subjective, i liked the look of this car and thought the "best look ev" looked boring af
Would love to see some reviews for Polestar EV's
It'll be a pain to use that face scanner when it's icy/snowy; probably even rain.
I think acceleration never comes over quite right in a video. Maybe you could add a visual aid, like some thing hanging from the rear view mirror or interior roof which yould be pulled back by the accleration?
PG544 if anyone is wondering 12:23
I was pretty disappointed with the B and O system in my F150 too, especially considering that it's a paid option. I always thought they were supposed to be higher end, but seems like they are either just not a good system, or they are allowing their name to be used as a gimmick.
they are probably just installing the cheapest B&O system just to say its got one rather than actually trying to provide a better audio experience. I'm starting to see B&O everywhere and I suspect B&O is just trying to profit from brand recognition.
Love these Videos with Alex and Andy!
it's wild seeing car reviews cause I see reviewers complaining about the most amazing things to me, I think a car is cool if it just has a screen instead of an old radio
On the porch tycan video you said you were not a fan of one pedal driving, but you are loving it now. So you love it or not ?
Sorry Alex, but the ioniq5 looks like a malformed blob. The Genesis looks like a sports hatchback, they actually did a decent job.
hahahaha it looks like a dead beluga whale
Light interiors are like piano black gloss, they look amazing until they actually come in contact with anything. Would love to see more "realistic" cars covered too.
The background music 6:17 is basically "CLUB BANGER 3000" but unironically.
Loving the ev content, keep it coming!
Oh man I'm so hyped for the Ioniq 5 N. Let's hope they give it to us asap.
Idk but I feel like the weird design comes from the teal/light blue not fitting to the car. I think it would look better in simple black or white.
Same i-pedal sillyness on the Ioniq 5 and yes, I also almost crash into the wall every time I get in. There's huge forum posts about this, everyone wants it to default on except Hyundai for some reason.
Also let me have it when backing up. Please. Please 🙏
I can’t imagine standing with my face forward like for 3+ seconds when getting in my car 😂
That opening door wipe mask transition at the start of the third block, though!!!!
The car has to be locked before you can stand behind the trunk for 3 seconds with the key fob in your pocket for the trunk to open.
I live in Texas. All-black vehicle interiors are an actual safety hazard in the summer down here.
I can see a nice chunk of buyers not being able to move when the gear selecter inevitably fails.
It has a manual override. You can physically rotate it if needed.
I'm so deep in the Apple garden that Genesis/BMW are the only cars I'm able to consider - glad LTT is covering these!
"(on frunk) yea no one has really done anything with that idea", except Tesla where you can store a cabin trolley + misc. Why the Germans (ID + Enyaq) cannot even fit anything there is beyond me. Its a huge deal when you are traveling with a big family.
I want to see how Andy does in a Plaid S, I think you could get more than a grunt out of him. Also no reverse burnout donuts?
"Manual peasant blockers" I love it.
Your “kinda the best” comment. As a Tesla fan, I agree. Tesla is resting and hasn’t innovated in making a better car recently. Automation stuff they are doing is cool, but doesn’t impact me as a potential customer. Right now, I would consider the IONIQ 5
I just had to drive a 1200 mile round trip. So the range for this vehicle does not work for me. There were zero charging stations on my drive.
Is there a way rotate the orb manually for WHEN (not if) it stops rotating on its own?
3:28 We need Lambo doors with those 808s sound FX when shut
The GV60 - driving straight through a garage door near you soon
When you said performance model and pointed to the R, I hope you know that is actually to describe the tires are for a 21 inch wheel. Or maybe you were pointing to something else
One pedal driving is not efficient, for effectivity is better to left kinetic energy in the car movement, and control recuperation intensity by break pedal just when need to slow or break.
I just thought it looks like Porsche Cayenne merged with Skoda Yeti and now I can't unsee it.
If you gave kids a button to control the rear blinds, you would immediately regret the car purchase lol
If you think that cargo cover is terrible, try living with the one of the Model Y, it's awful! You have to hold it up to get underneath it, it won't stay put...
What other grocery getter has 500 hp? A chager, a jeep trackhawk, a dodge durango. I'd love to see a hellcat review on here!
Gotta disagree about the design I think this car looks much better than the IONIQ.
About the audio, that's the thing I kinda dislike about B&O. It's either stinky because it's mid or it's stinky because it's loud, as DankPods' Wade Nixon would describe it.
Weak in my knees from just watching this guy and hearing his angelic voice 😩💜
3:29 hey, I have these camera strap thingies too!! Super useful.
Those door handles and charging port would be an absolute nightmare in icy rain/snow. I would MUCH rather have proper door handles like on my Niro EV.
hey that guy just passed me
hits the "sport mode button"
