    I LOVE your videos! They are so helpful and I just received my first doll kit a couple days ago. I have been watching so many tutorials and then i found you and i love that your dolls aren't super red or orange. they're very lifelike and their skin is so much more realistic. Thank you for posting!!

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, layering is very important. After flesh tone, you can add a little bit of red/purple to the flesh to give it more life; if too red, add some yellows; if too peach or yellow add some purples or blues. It's important to look at each layer and compare with your own skin tone, too. Different ethnic groups have different tones - I'm sure you already know that! I prefer blue/purple undertones to peach undertones myself. Good luck and let me know how your first doll turns out!

    Hello Sharon I am practising air dry painting and am having a go at painting hair as well . What do you use if you make a mistake and you want to remove some to re-do it? I thought it was water but that wouldn't work so wondered if you used something different ? Thanks Sharon from Julie 🥰👍Your videos helped me make my mind up to use air dry paints so you have already been very helpful and Clover is gorgeous 🧡💜💛❤️💚💙

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie. Try using rubbing alcohol mixed with water. If that doesn't work, try just rubbing alcohol, but it will remove a LOT! If you want to start conservatively, just use a little Dawn dishwashing liquid mixed with hot water. Then add some rubbing alcohol with water and take it from there. If you want to remove everything down to the bare vinyl, then you will need paint remover, which has a horrid smell, or nail polish remover, which also has a horrid smell. Hope this helps a little. Good luck! Sharon

My camera is broken, waiting for another, so thus no videos for quite a while. My sister passed away on Easter. She was suffering with brain cancer and a host of other complications. She hung in there for weeks, until they put her in hospice on Thursday. We are going to be ok, but my poor brother-in-law and my sister were together for 59 years - married for 54 and dating for 5. She left behind 3 lovely ladies (my nieces) and 6 grand children. They were a very close family. I was sad that I couldn't fly up to NJ from FL, but I stayed in constant touch on the phone. Just wanted someone to know. Thanks for your prayers. Sharon

    It's very relaxing and informative. Basically you go with very "subtle" layers (very diluted colors), starting with a skin color that you keep perfecting with the neutrilizing/warming laser and in beetwin you add details as veins "mottling" (spell correct?? ) frackles..i am in love with the yellow on the nose.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly. I add blue (subtly) at the bridge of the nose and on the sides of the lower nose also on the inside ankle bone area and in the center of the bottom of the foot. Blue needs to be added very carefully because it is difficult to correct if it's too dark. I add purple (thin, watery layer) where baby's skin is thinner like the crease on the inside of the knee. I mix blue with purple and put it on the bulb of the thumb on the underside. I sometimes dab a little bit of this color above the eyebrows too. I will add a hint of yellow on the upper forehead just under the hairline in the front, too.

I washed her with water and then I have been trying to neutralise her, by adding turquoise, distilled water and the blending gel (folkart) and after the second coat, there is no difference at all! Should I have given a base coat with the gel first? 💕Thank you very much 💕

      Neutralizing - is the kit too orange? I'm assuming so if you are using a blue/green color. These layers should not be too heavy - they should be a 'wash', so maybe just continue with your next layer of color - flesh color maybe? I have not used blending gel. Are you using the glass & tile medium or outdoor sealer by Folk Art? If not, maybe that could be why it's not visible?

    Thank you so much for this video. Do you have a list of your essential colors that you use. At the end when you said you baked her do you actually put her in the oven? Or how does that work? When a baby does turn out to be shiny what do you use? Also when you make her lips and nail shiny what do you use you didn’t mention it? Thank you so much.

      Essential colors are flesh, reds, purples, pinks, peach, blue, yellow, mint green, and browns. You can use Folk Art Outdoor Sealer (matte) as a final coat to prevent shiny-ness. You don't need to bake acrylic paints, only Genesis heat set paints, and then use a Nu-wave oven with the extender ring, never use a kitchen oven as fumes are toxic. Hope this helps!

      @@barbarasuszek3410 If you are using acrylic paints, put a little glass & tile medium in every color you apply. Then use it by itself when you are all finished. If you want to use Genesis matte varnish, I would suggest mixing it with Genesis thinning medium. Then you would need to bake it - twice - wait until it's cool, turn over, and bake again. You can use the glass & tile medium as a seal coat; however, it is difficult to master and requires multiple applications. You need to keep using a new cosmetic wedge, as the medium will become saturated on the sponge and not give you the desired "matte". You should also keep washing your mop brush in between applications, because the medium will "collect" on your brush and make globs stick on your vinyl. You will eventually get the hang of it. I have even successfully baked the doll with just the acrylic paint and glass & tile medium on it - I hope this was helpful. Sharon x0x0

      I only bake at the end. I use Genesis thinning medium as my final coat. I bake twice - I wait for the vinyl to cool first and then re-bake. I use power level 6 (which I believe is 250 deg.) for 10 minutes. My Nu-Wave oven has the extender ring so that the heating element is further away from the vinyl which are on top of a soft towel. Genesis paints are oil based and MUST be baked. Acrylic paints are water based and do not have to be baked. The final step that I bake makes them "matte", and slightly textured. I do it to make the paints more durable. Hope this helps. Sharon

      You are either applying the paint to thick or not waiting long enough for each layer to dry. Wait at least 2 hours before going on to another coat, and make them watery. Put the glass and tile medium into the distilled water and a little paint for every layer. Seal with just glass & tile medium put on a small section at a time, changing your cosmetic wedge frequently so it doesn't get build up. You can seal with Genesis matte varnish and bake as well - twice - once again after vinyl cools. Hope this helps.

      @@twistingtheperfecttomorrow6275 Yes you can. Use a wood stir stick to get the thick stuff at the bottom mixed in. Use a 1/2" mop brush to brush the medium onto a cosmetic wedge sponge - for more texture, rip off the top to make it more porous. Work in small sections, in good lighting. I start with the hands and work up to the wrist, then elbow area, then top of the arm. Change your sponge often as it will get 'gunked' up and wash your mop brush often, as the stuff dries quickly on your brush. You should hear a 'sticking' noise when you pull the sponge away from your vinyl. This will insure you get a 'matte' texture. Inspect your work under good lighting to make sure the surface is evenly matted all over. Hope this helps.
