      You can if you want to touch up some shiny spots. You don't need to bake it either. So "yes" you can! It does take some practice though.

    Your tutorial is awesome.I love watching your videos.I use airdry paint and tried this kind of varnish with the Gretel sculpt and it took off some of my paint on the fingers and the toes.The rest was ok. It looked like it melted off. I'm not sure why it would do that.I could only think the change in their formula might be the cause.

    Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing. I'm using Genesis paints. I'm afraid to use the varnish to seal in case I mess it up. I've used the thinning medium instead of varnish. That's what Jackie Ortiz uses on her dolls . Hugs from Scotland xxx

    Hi! I know this video is old. Do you still use and love this method? I still have this product and this is how I used to use it too, but I haven't been painting for a while because I got scared that people were posting about fading. Is this still the best method? I bought the glass and tile medium in bulk before they discontinued it :)

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  ปีที่แล้ว

      It always worked for me. As time goes by, with experience, you will get better and better at applying air dry varnish. Folk art outdoor matte sealer works just the same. I believe they might have discontinued glass & tile medium. If you are worried about it, invest in a used Nu-Wave oven with an extender ring, which raises the heating element up further from the bottom, so the vinyl doesn't burn. Then I would try some heat set matte varnish. Of course, I liked Genesis the best, but they don't make it anymore. I used GHS matte varnish mixed with GHS thinning medium and GHS thick medium to arrive at the perfect consistency, and then added a drop of odorless Mona Lisa thinner to it so I could apply it easily. I'm sure there are companies that sell these products besides Genesis. Hope this helps.

    Help Sharon, can you use this on top of heat set paints as ive got a doll left with one side of his head back of neck and one ear all gone shiny, timer didn't work so left on one side to long! Can i apply just to shiny parts or do i have to go all over all the face and painted hair so there's no edge to be seen and will this be ok for a doll that will be played with?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can use air dry varnish over heat set paints. I do it all the time. You can just apply it to the shiny parts, but if it looks uneven, it's no big deal - just do the whole head. It's quite easy. Apply to a cosmetic wedge first and pounce. Change your wedge if it gets saturated, and wash your brush if it gets 'hard'.

      Are you using glass & tile medium mixed into the acrylics? I do. At the end to seal, if you don't use an oven, and you don't have Genesis matte varnish, then use the glass & tile medium pounced on with a cosmetic wedge. I wash my brush frequently using this product and change my sponge frequently as well because once they become saturated, you won't get a 'matte' effect. This take some practice. Work in small sections at a time, and examine your work under good lighting to make sure you get the look you want. Good luck!
