    I'm a boy and I've been making reborns since I was 12 and I'm fifteen now and my girlfriend is getting into reborns and I use acrylic paints when I'm painting my babies and it works just as well a Genesis paints and maybe even better tbh right now I am working on the skya asleep and Logan asleep kits from Bb and I'm making them into twins for my girlfriend but rooting is not my specialty:(

      If you’re still using a glass and tile medium with your paints, where do you get them and which brand? Because the Folk Art glass and tile medium does not exist ANYWHERE in the world anymore! Desperate to paint my kit!

    I’ve got my paints and finally ready to air dry paint my bountiful baby kit!! Im so excited to see you’re videos i was never happy with the thought to “bake” a doll, especially over and over and u along with some google have given me so much hope and knowledge! Thank you! 😊 Also, ive noticed there are other brand of mediums for matte acrylic specifically like golden and liquitex, on the bottles it also states it makes acrylic paint adhere better & that you can mix with water for thinner consistency so im guessing it does the same as the glass and tile medium. Just in case anyone was looking for another brand as i was. I hope this is helpful 😊

    I am hopefully going to start we bring the next couple of months because where I live it's really hard to find everything I cannot find glass and tile medium In a store so I started looking on Amazon it is $22 for six bottles of glass and tile medium I don't think I'll need six right away but I found it and then I need to order my kit which is the Ella kit from bountiful baby and then I need to order mohair and Rooting tools i'm 13 years old and you're one of the people that actually taught me that I could use acrylic paint that's because of Heard genesis heat sets can be like really bad for you. I have been going back and watching all of your tutorial videos trying to figure out what colour paint I need you have helped me so much thank you

    Hello, Im new to your channel but I love it already .. I wanted to say for the sponge with holes if you want to afford puting paint inside the holes you’d probably try to use your brush to aply paint only on the surface so the paint wouldnt go inside the holes ... For mistakes in painting, you "can start all over again" by using the Goof-Off paint remover... works well, but you need to wash the doll very well afterwards, let it air out for a few days. Goof-off wont harm your skin, however wear surgical gloves. Hope this helps some. Thank you I love your videos. I paint dolls also with Acrylics, never tried the genesis paint. However I'm confused with the baking part, and the stove you are using. When do you bake the doll, before you paint them, at the end of painting, or after a few paint coats, can you explain the fundamentals of this baking with acrylics? Thank you, love your videos.

      I used Genesis Thinning Medium as a final seal and matte coat and then baked in a Nu-Wave portable convection oven. I like the effect it gives. But you can seal with air dry sealer like glass & tile medium that does not require baking. It is tricky to master however. Thanks for your lovely comment! Sharon

So, since I will be using acrylic paint, the only time I will bake my baby would be at the end to cure it with the thinning medium?? Does it have to be done in a New Wave oven or just any convection oven?? Thanks again !!

      @lifewithsharonb5138  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great that you want to try your hand at painting, and I'm glad I was an inspiration to you. You can use any convection oven, as long as the heating element is far enough from the bottom so your vinyl won't get scorched. I don't recommend baking inside your home - fumes are toxic. If you are using acrylics with glass & tile medium, you can just bake at the end with the Genesis medium. I actually like the thinning medium mixed with a little Genesis Matte Varnish. It works even better. I bake 11 minutes at power level 6 - let cool, and then bake again. Good luck! Let me know how it goes. Sharon x0x0

      Did you use the Folk Art medium too thickly or the paints too thickly? That would be the reason. Try wiping the doll down with a clean, soft, warm and slightly wet cloth and see if this helps.

    So I am a first time reborn painter. And I trying to find out if I can use paints that Require no heating? At all. Is it just the Matt varnish the you have to heat with the Acrylics? As a last step in finishing you reborn baby?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you don't have to bake the varnish if you use folk art outdoor sealer or folk art glass & tile medium. This does take some practice. I apply it to a cosmetic wedge that has been ripped off for a rougher surface. I apply to the vinyl in very small sections. You have to change your wedge often because it will get saturated and not work any more and you have to wash your brush often because it will get caked on there too. Hope this helped you. Good luck!

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can. The results are better with distilled water because there are no minerals in it. The minerals in tap water may make the paint look different. I was instructed when using air dry paints that distilled water is best. You can get a gallon in the supermarket for a buck.

    I just started on my first reborn a few days OK but after it dried it had lint all over the doll. I strip the paint off but it's almost impossible to apply glass and tile medium. Is there any tricks so it wouldnt be so. Hard to paint the doll?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to apply thinly in small areas at a time and keep changing your cosmetic wedge, and keep washing your brush. This is when you are sealing the doll with just the medium at the end. When you are applying color, you need to add a small bit into each batch of paint and distilled water, just about a 1/4 tsp or so. You have to make sure you are working with paint that is clean with no specks, and work in a lint free environment, with plenty of lighting so you can see what you are doing. I also find that using new paints helps as they have no dried material in them, and I find Folk Art matte acrylics worked the best for me. Hope this helps.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it lasts. I bake mine with a layer of Genesis thinning medium - twice. You can seal it with Plaid Folk Art Glass & Tile medium brushed onto a cosmetic wedge and work in small sections. You will need to keep changing your sponge because when it gets saturated it doesn't provide a matte finish any more. This takes some practice.

      Yes indeed! Sometimes you can use the same batch and add color to it to use it for another step. For instance, I start with a flesh color, and when I'm done with that I add a reddish color to it so I don't waste it.
