I remember loading Maple on a USB drive and playing it on the school computers. I'd even go in early to play about an hour before school started. Good times :,(
I still slightly dislike the Pirate class since it's wan't among the original classes and there's a bit of "new guy effect" going on there. I guess I'm like the grandpa screaming "get off my lawn" in MS sense; hating everything that has changed and talking about the good old days when we had to grind till our fingers bled to level up.
Angel Ray heals you and allies now, and Heal's cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds per party member healed, so if you're near two allies, it has no cooldown (so you can use it for supporting during bosses), and Heal also applies a damage boosting debuff to nearby enemies. Now, you can still kill undead enemies quickly with your holy skills like Shining Ray and Big Bang/Genesis, and then just hit Heal whenever your health dips a bit. I feel like Bishop is a lot more engaging now, instead of just holding down a single key.
Uncle Jellyfish Angel's Ray only heals 20% based on bishop's HP (so if bishop has 10k, it only heals 2k for each pt member), which is ridiculously low. Bishop hyper reduces that heal by a further 40% to a final of 12%... so if you wanna support you must go full support mode. heal cooldown mitigation only works if you actually heal hp for the members, so if your pt members hp are full and you use heal, you still get the full 4s CD. It's still really dangerous even with a bishop in the party healing and using angel's ray. Ridiculous how I have to use %Hp recovery potential lines and %HP/hyper body just so that I can get more heal for pt members through angel's ray
And that's why Maplestory felt better back then. The higher levelled players had skills that looked awesome available to them whilst lower levelled plays did not. There was a sense of awe watching someone use these amazing skills back in those days. Nowadays everyone just seems to have everything right from the get go...It looses the pull and appeal the younger Maplestory had
well plenty pre bb privs for you to try, im afraid most of the community wouldnt play that now instead of looking up to high lvl players doing dif skills you look up to high funded ones doing dmg, its still ingame just shifted a bit
RobotCharizard I hated it though.. It might be fun to play if you're funded but my character wasn't and it takes so much time for me to find somebody to party with.. I could continue to grind on monsters but the experience gain is so low it would take forever..
RobotCharizard I honestly bet that if they reworked PQs into being more rewarding than Solo play, it would bring back that social aspect that nostalgic people miss, like the new Monster Park is actually really good, but the problem is that it's solo, and it doesn't encourage partying
this was also when things to me seemed fairly balanced. Also promoted partying and being a nice lil community because you NEEEDED a Bish or a D knight to do certain things, or a Chief Dit, or assasin to do some things. :D thats how you made so many friends and stuff. and omg Monster Carnival was THEEE BESSSST EVER ...that lvl 35- 50 (i think) gap of monster carnival was like going to school making friends and then leaving and missing it all.
And then you went to secondary school AKA monster carnival 50+, and instead of there being a huge carpet of people wanting to get in there was about 10 people max hanging out on the platforms :D
Wow, really brings back memories... Those skills might not have been flashy or strong but its for that fact that players could team up and help kill monsters with their skills that made sense for their job...
Anyone remember the assassin skill Drain? it was like almost never mentioned and never used because most things 2-3 shot you and you would've died faster than healing
Back then: Skills had reasonable animations and hit boxes and high level skills felt a lot cooler. Now: Start with extremely cool skills and level to 200 in no time to get tons of skills that just make the whole map blow up.
I remember all of these skills, however back then I was an impatient kid and only played to level 30 until I made a new character. Too be honest, i miss seeing all these skills,, but what I miss more are the large variety of maps between towns and finding hidden maps. How many of us remember going to kerning city from henesys? I always thought it was a painful walk, but now I miss it.
Damn coppersan, back at it again with the nostalgic Maple feels :'( But Bishops back then with the only available EXP buff skill spamming Genesis at skeles was way too broken...
It was broken from a exp gain view, but it balanced itself in cost. Back then 2 genesis casts were your entire mana bar, roughly 1 mana bull per genesis. Plus if you didn't OHKO, you died alot because skeles used to hurt. Selling leech was necessary lol
The fact that mages were frail didn't matter too much because all the popular maps had spots where you could stand, spam your AoE and hit the entire map at the same time. Its funny though, the MP requirement really was a huge cost at the time. But that became less important later in the lifespan of the game when autopot pets and potions became more prevalent as well as potions in general becoming relatively less expensive. Spending 100k to repot used to feel like a lot back in the day,
Kargo it's the opposite of dying. When I joined a few months ago it was at ~250-300 people on at a time, sometimes even lower. Probably because I live in Asia
Its because Royals went through an update to a "newer" source version a few months ago and it almost completely broke the game and it was still broken for a few months after that. It looks like there still trying to iron out some problems too.
Old Corsair job skills. How I miss riding on riding a boat. Fun fact about the boat skill. During the beginning of PvP update (Super Fight) when a Corsair used the boat skill in a PvP match, any slows they had on them was removed.
I remember when mages had their first job advancement at level 8. But you had to put points into the max MP skill otherwise you lose out on MP as you leveled. So you wouldn't actually get an attacking skill until level 12.
You forgot the old Nigh Lord flash jump. The first FJ. The only FJ at the time. The most beautiful FJ. I miss it with Savage Blow of Shadower, their old explosion skill and the Lightning Throw of Icelightning 😭
Bomb arrow. I miss you so. Maxing you to 30, just because people said no. Final attack, I'd wish you back, Using an extra arrow to BLOW UP THE CRAP OUTTA THINGS WITH SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE THAT WAS SO SATISFYING!
thief/rogue 1st job, had a skill called "Disorder" which was a pretty massive debuff. it applied I believe -90 attack -90 Defense (or avoidably, I forget) for 60 seconds at lv 20, and it worked on bosses. I think it also had -20 speed now that I think about it. The thing was, if you maxed disorder, and that one stealth skill, you couldn't max any of the other attacks, which made leveling up really difficult. Though even before we had orbis, I was able to use this skill to kill golems at lv 19.... back when golems where level 50+. just had to spam disorder until I hit for 1 damage, and then suddenly I was doing almost full damage. Oh yeah, and did I mention it worked on bosses. Hit a boss with disorder, suddenly everyone's doing 50% more damage. and yet nobody used. It was removed for the same reason as magic bolt. nobody used it.
:( coppersan naughty you brought back my nostalgic memories. I remembered I enjoyed your videos back when I'm active in Mapling but couldn't recall which video caught my attention back then. Hope you're doing well in life :) ~GS1052
When the skills were actually well designed, exciting and cool.. I remember getting band of thieves and getting super excited lvling the skill to get more thieves as you do. coppersan you make me wanna cry..
Omg my first job was a page and at that moment there wasn't even a 4th job. The highest I could go was 80+ and I got too tired of the low damage output. It was fun going on hiddenstreet to find out which element the mobs were weak to though.
I reckon they should bring back the mechanic where archers can't attack mobs that are too close. It's part of their identity and archers are supposed to be long ranged classes that are weak up close. Even if they just have it for marksman, it would bring a little bit of "skill" back into the game
pink arrow eruption for xbow and blue arrow rain for archer. Also the bird summon for Wild Hunter 3rd job as well as ability to capture and tame any monster in the game and have it summonable and fight for you (dunno if this is still around)
I always had a love hate relationship with the nostalgia that maplestory would rub off on me... Everything brings me back to moments I was happy and naive, and maplestory changed so much, for worse or better in perspective, I can't blame asiasoft or maplesea for trying to uphold the quality of the game... I missed those days.
I remember this mage skill at 1:30. I used to believe that it was some kind of hack because hwen I was there, 7 years old grinding outside henesys someone came and just killed everything on the map and I thought they hacked, everytime
Any old time Chief Bandit would agree that the skill we miss the most is Assaulter. The *SHING* sound effect, the animation, the big 1-hit damage, the teleport utility, the stun, the constant kite while owning mobs made this skill the best of all. Even tho it was not the optimal skill to grind exp (Band of thieves was by far the best), I would sometimes spam it just because it was so damn cool. Even after it got revamped and became 3 hits instead of 1 big hit (hence nerfing the knockback effect) it was still so damn cool. But then it was removed for no reason. RIP Assaulter
I wonder if anyone remembered cheesing Battle Square (Maple's shitty PvP) by accumulating points for Tokens via Puppet cause Puppet was considered a player and thus gave Tokens, me and a friend a day before Battle Square removal grinded my Puppet till we had enough to buy the entire Blazing Sun set, I even keep the Face Accessory till now.
you could use Chief bandit's Assaulter through the first map of the crimson wood forest to get to CWKPQ like it was nothing :) i miss assaulter and band of thieves
I know Soul Driver is a skill owned by Mihile (2nd job) and ultimate explorers for warrior explorer classes. But it's a shadow of its former self. I love that old ability.
I never forgot about those skills, since, every time i play the class I remember the good old days lol. Out of all of those skills, I missed the old dragon knight. The Dragon Roar skills it is the only one that would shake the map. It was also fun to use on blue and red snails lol.
They changed all these? I quit maple when i was in middle school and now that im going to college, it was kinda nostalgic seeing this. Kinda sad that they are gone i thought they were still in the game ):
You know you are an old mapler when you remember all of these skills. T^T
I used to play it in elementary with my friends, ugh...

Once upon a time, priest coud actually heal.
RIGHT??? I didnt know they put a cooldown on heal until like yesterday... like why the fuck ruin the undead mobbing skill of beastness
Lol... no one party bosses anymore ;-;
and I LIKE holding down one key thank you very much. Its why I like Phantom and demon Avenger.
THANK YOU. Im so tired of the new players defending those types of changes. NOBODY parties for anything now
And that's why Maplestory felt better back then. The higher levelled players had skills that looked awesome available to them whilst lower levelled plays did not.
There was a sense of awe watching someone use these amazing skills back in those days.
Nowadays everyone just seems to have everything right from the get go...It looses the pull and appeal the younger Maplestory had
agreed.
exactly, plus it's much easier to get the end game skills now
And you think people would play game permastuck with sht skills watching high lvl players nowdays?
actully id love that :)
well plenty pre bb privs for you to try, im afraid most of the community wouldnt play that
now instead of looking up to high lvl players doing dif skills you look up to high funded ones doing dmg, its still ingame just shifted a bit
back when each class actually felt different... now everyone has flash jump, extremely flashy skills, and just spam spam spam
Damn I miss monster carnival
always the 6th one, for more avoidability and all gonna miss, except for magicians xD
It's all solo because NO ONE PLAYS THE FREAKING GAME. (except on reboot) All the other servers are DEAD
Chibdibs yeah they should just merge the non-reboot servers into one (maybe also scania-windia too) cuz most worlds are just empty and sad
this was also when things to me seemed fairly balanced.
Pretty much, good ol times
And then you went to secondary school AKA monster carnival 50+, and instead of there being a huge carpet of people wanting to get in there was about 10 people max hanging out on the platforms :D
There is no point because there are just enough rewards for 1 player. (most bosses atleast)
I would kill myself so I lose exp so I can keep playing monster carnival. Didn't know about the 50+ version!
Wow, really brings back memories... Those skills might not have been flashy or strong but its for that fact that players could team up and help kill monsters with their skills that made sense for their job...
archers 3job had this skill where it rained with arrows
loved that skill 😂
Someones Channel ya, Arrow Rain
crossbows had strafe and ultimate strafe too.. now its just piercing and snipe.. i miss those 6 arrows.. D:
omg same! and it had a really satisfying sound
@botanist xbowman always had piercing arrow and snipe. Although in pre big bang, Piercing arrow had a charge up, and snipe had a cooldown.
Someones Channel yas I miss arrow rain a lot ! bm used to have has the best skill sound effects (really satisfying to the ears)
I miss magic claw
Jll Me too 😢 looks better than magic bolt
Toughest decision to make when you had a mage... bolt or claws :o everyone went for claws because you could hit through walls!!!
Magic claw? Wasn't that still there after Maplestory red? What happened to it?
removed & Revamped? Theres only magic bolt now
it's back in maplestory 2!
Nostalgia kicks me hard.... Will never forget all these good old memories..
ahhh man the memories of old maplestory. when ppl use to talk to each other and the jobs felt cool and awsome :)
Meso Explosion was the shit
the entire game would change for a bandit once it turned into a chief bandit because of this one skill, even with only 1 point in it
Battlemage could stack auras at one point and It was silly also they had passive life steal
Kiba Nezumi Also Battlemages Tornado skill is gone cri
Anyone remember the assassin skill Drain?
it was like almost never mentioned and never used because most things 2-3 shot you and you would've died faster than healing
i missed dragon roar so much, especially when you got to train at jesters with ease
Back then: Skills had reasonable animations and hit boxes and high level skills felt a lot cooler.
Now: Start with extremely cool skills and level to 200 in no time to get tons of skills that just make the whole map blow up.
Hermit / Night Lord become boring after they took off avenger
Koshimaru Kisara nexon took it and shoved it up nightwalkers ass
Also got boring when every class got flash jump, pathetic.
Jafet Acevedo everyone complained about certain classes needing a flash jump
Avenger looked so cool
avenger is what makes me play nightlord

Ahh back when Maplestory was actually fun..
and now its funner ! XD IMO
@@TalesKursped nah, i prefer the simpler maplestory, when it wasnt rows of 69482839483892948 all over the screen.
That's very arguable. We all have our nostalgia goggles on.
OK now i really want e Nostalgia server
Kargo not a lot of people are online on it :(
Kargo it's the opposite of dying. When I joined a few months ago it was at ~250-300 people on at a time, sometimes even lower. Probably because I live in Asia

best. opening. ever.

Omg i miss my corsair's battleship, freeze, flamethrower AND hypnotise (mind control) skills.
Remember the feeling of hitting monsters, and when they didn't die, freaking out because I was about to DC from the servers. Great video man!
Buccs also had demolition and a skill where they could hide in a barrel and not be hit. 😭
It's been 10 years since I last played this game and now that it seems the new era of maple had half the screen filled with damage texts .
The 3 Satellites that follow my mech
Hsk ToiletScrub are they gone! ؟
I shed a tear. Life was so diffrent back then. I miss it so much
Thunder breaker Green shark skill 😭
Kai Rui RIP Shark Wave
that's what made me make s thunder breaker back in the day, and the transformation
Ranger Strafe and Arrow Rain were one of my favorite skills :)
Bomb arrow.
I miss you so.
Maxing you to 30, just because people said no.
Final attack,
I'd wish you back,
Using an extra arrow to BLOW UP THE CRAP OUTTA THINGS WITH SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE THAT WAS SO SATISFYING!
Looking back at this I wonder how Maplestory's skills will change in the next 10 years
If it will survive that long
Listening to this background music made me go back in time
Omg...good old days. Gave me chills just watching this video. I wish we could go back to those classic old days.
the old buccanneer barrage was epic
I loved old bucc, barrage and dragon strike are some of my favorite skills ever but now dragon strike is basically useless and barrage is gone

lmfao that hunter luring monsters to the noobs so they die xD
wow, coppersan! you are still here?!?! good for you man!
The music. Very nostalgic brings back a lot of good memories
The bandit at the start with a wagner and pan lid... I just went back so many years for a moment
the good days..
I miss the old 4th job xbowman skill that hit a single mob a bunch of times. That skill felt so good to use, but alas, it is gone.
When the skills were actually well designed, exciting and cool.. I remember getting band of thieves and getting super excited lvling the skill to get more thieves as you do. coppersan you make me wanna cry..
Remember when Pages had to use Power Strike and Slash Blast until 4th job... so OP...
Pages were so strong, that was all they needed :P
Not only them, Fighters aswell :x but atleast they had panic and coma, the skills that used combo orbs
remember when people used to try and level beginners to 200 just to feel alive?
The only class that needed the revamp but I do miss the spell effects it visually added to other moves.
2019, just hearing your bg music gave me nostalgia. my heart started sinking. 😭😭😭.. #childhood♥️
pink arrow eruption for xbow and blue arrow rain for archer. Also the bird summon for Wild Hunter 3rd job as well as ability to capture and tame any monster in the game and have it summonable and fight for you (dunno if this is still around)
Energy blast for old buccs

The good old days when it took a couple days to a week to reach lvl 30
Loving these nostalgia vids, more of these!

I still love the old thunder spear animation; also the “pop” of the explosion instead of how it is now

I have a job advancement video of you want to use that.absorption using the skill in the first few sec of the video.
that bowman knocking back golems into noobs, that is a classic maple video
Remember keen eyes?
i miss these so much
Bandit used to have a skill call Assaulter too.:( they removed it
I miss these skills so much, I use to love shaking the whole map and waiting for people to tell me stop im going to lag out.
Nexon has a collective fetish where they take something awesome away and give it back at 5th job.
Back then every class had a role, but now all classes just one man everything.
I miss that priest baby dragon ability :'(
Moe Jundi and consuming summoning rock for 1 baby dragon summon
you could use Chief bandit's Assaulter through the first map of the crimson wood forest to get to CWKPQ like it was nothing :) i miss assaulter and band of thieves
Wow it has been so long since I dont play some jobs that I hadn't realized half of those skills were already removed.
I remember all these except up to the gun wielding class. Seeing all the newer stuff and insane damage number brings back some bad grinding memories.
brings tears to my eyes
I know Soul Driver is a skill owned by Mihile (2nd job) and ultimate explorers for warrior explorer classes. But it's a shadow of its former self. I love that old ability.
I miss the Dark nights skills with the dragon
People randomly dropping mesos and gear in the towns and stuff was great. There used to be alot of social interactions, not so much anymore.
mechanic siege mode
Ashe Frio
I'm so pissed when they removed the siege mode. 😡
I hate what they did to mechs

I loved maplestorys art and design for skills
I never forgot about those skills, since, every time i play the class I remember the good old days lol. Out of all of those skills, I missed the old dragon knight. The Dragon Roar skills it is the only one that would shake the map. It was also fun to use on blue and red snails lol.
