I think the worst quest I remember wasn't quite in "old school" MS, but it was when Ultimate Adventurers/Explorers was a thing. The 30 Peridots you had to get in Leafre for this took SO long. I remember searching for WEEKS to get all of them. Additionally, the Nependeath quest to get the Bone Helm was insane early on.
Jesus I hated all the jump quests lol. I got my cousin to do all of them for me. I was 10 years old (25 now :P)... so maybe my hand coordination was just bad lol...
I basically went into maplestory blind, so I ruined my first i/l by giving him 20 str so he could equip a mace, and not putting any sp into magic guard.
I did the same for my Cleric. Eventually i made another cleric post BB and mained it for a while. Then the RED update came and ruined the class for me tbh.
the shook me to the core..but this is what made maplestory so great was the hurt you went through and seeing those drops and items was a very exciting thing you would party with random people cause it was a struggle by yourself thats what people remember from this game.
The clip is just reminiscent. I remember how struggle was i when started with a bow man, arrow was so neccessary and rare back then. And it was so cheerful and proud when i got the tube, umbrella and the candy pop weapon. I just comeback and play new maplestory after like 10 years but the replacement is impossible, the old maplestory was the best back then. Thanks for the clip mate.
i loved old school maplestory so much! and ofc we all remember the pain. i remember the pain in the 3rd job advancement when we had to drink soup to stay alive in EL NATH zone while answering the question, i remember checking the answers in google and getting anxious checking if the soup effect is coming to end, i once died because of it (was mage class, fire poison to exact) and had to buy the dark crystal once again i remember it was around 3 mill mesos back then which was a lot for me because i wasnt into trading in the free market rather questing and trying to complete all quests in game (including jump quests), i would return to maplestory if questing and party questing is still a thing now :P, but it seems like it isnt, sadly. but im happy to see that the one of the games is still fucking alive!!!!
Horrible quests? I can nominate 2: The Chaos behind Alfonse Green and the Nependeath Juice In search of the book of ancient (At least this gave you rocks)
LOLL i forgot how bad it was....POINT ZERO ONE. training guides be like "yeah so and so map has a great EXP ratio, about 0.03% per monster for most unfunded classes"
You should make more of these videos, and the longer the better! The nostalgia hits hard; great times made with more focus based on friendships and social construct. Games like these are what are yearned for. The harder the risk (longer to obtain something) the better the reward. Sadly games nowadays only base everything off a quick dopamine rush. Unfortunate.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that most of the skills back then were blocked off and you had to buy skill book as well as 20/30 skill books. I still remember having to search through FM just to find final blow for my Aran (a class barely anyone played). Not to mention having to find high defense skill book. Gawd old school MS was a nightmare for solo play. And speaking of skill books; poor Even and Dual Bladders back then; they couldn't get all their skills because some of them were cash shop exclusive. Now....as for quests that haunt me still, Temple of Time; you had to defeat 999 each of those mobs just to advance to the next room.
Weighted earrings from wild boars with a lukless cleric lol... I was a Henyhoe for a while until I was adopted by a warrior to tank for me 😁 Also, trying to hit jr. Boogies and neckis and Balrog on the ship!
I remember getting so angry at most of the jump quests as a kid, I only ever managed to finish the 1st one in sleepy (for ores lol) and the first two in kerning (for like 5k mesos and 2 fame lmao)
A real pain for me was the fact that my internet connection sucked back then, so getting to Orbis via the 30min boat ride was a total gamble, since the disconnect could occur at any moment. This meant that changing continents could take whole day for me, since usualy the disconnect occurred around 5 minutes left on the voyage. Also, if I recall correctly, doing Ludibrium quests were total pain for poor maplers back then, since using return to nearest scroll would take you to Omega sector below floor 50, and if you couldn't buy Eos rock scrolls, you had to climb half of the tower back, just to get on floor range to teleport back to Ludibrium, to get more quests for the tower.
The biggest pain personally was the experience deduction everytime you die. The percentage is different for classes and the heaviest is warrior which is 10%. I was using warrior class and grinded for like 5 hours when i died suddenly and 10% exp was deducted, making the 5 hours of exp went into smoke.
IIRC you also didn't want to go above a level before your job advancement, otherwise you'd actually miss out on a skill point, so if you were stuck on your 3rd/4th job advancement, you couldn't actually go out to farm mobs or anything that gave you xp.
above the level of the job advancement didn't matter, I was 87 before 3rd job got released as well as several other hardcore players back then. Curryishot (the 1st person to hit the 100 mark in GMS) for example was already 10x and tiger was also 100 before 3rd job was released rl friend of mine ice mage was 95 (all the higher lvls were farming at cooly zombies then).
oh man this gives me the warm feeling and memorys of doing the old kerning tower killing cds and bobas on a Friday after school ends what a nice feeling thanks for the trip coppersan
Wow so many memories!!! 3rd job adv was a beautiful and painful thing. Still remember my first sin to 3rd job, almost cried lol. Watching ppl doing their 3rd jobs on the internet with Linkin Park BGM Love this kind of videos! If u can please make more like these
Oh nostalgia trip. Worst drug there is. FM if you got lucky and found someone doing a generous 1 me so shop. Hard to find items for quests? Remember the electrophants in nlc? Trying to get them to drop hyper glyphs was near impossible. The poor mages having to deal with no str till level 8. And oh man Endure used to be a budget skill. Them ol days
Oh god. Thanks for bringing back old memories! I still vividly remember spending hours and hours looking killing fire boars for Arwen's glass shoe and doing Jane and the Wild Boar only to get unlucky... ):
oh man, I remember trying to advance on a warrior back in the day, couldn't hit the stupid monkeys easily because of acc. Also I miss making friends in the old PQs like kpq, lpq, and even lmpq. D;
Not too old school but I missed when planning travels was a thing - friends would come up to me and ask what is most optimal path from a town to another, taking in account of ship cost/possible tp from quests/etc. It saved me a lot of mesos throughout the years from different periods of mapling
there was this one quest in showa town. You had to help out a crying girl and i remember the quest being so lengthy and costly only to get rewarded with potions!
4:35 I never used those kinds of shops. Saw people hawking stuff in the free market with lots of @ signs to make their speech bubble taller. Happened in some other places too, but free market ch1 was always packed solid with players. Alternatively, there was basilmarket - like an ebay for stuff in MapleStory I guess, where you could auction something, or buy something at auction, then arrange to meet in game to trade directly.
Maaaan the zakuum prequests. I totally forgot about that. Also that NLC guild party quest where you needed 2 of each class was incredibly hard to pull off. You needed many many friends
bruh slog from 20-30 doign kerning PQ felt like it took FOREVER And 30-70 was a lifetime. I didnt get a 100+ until they revamped the system and upped the XP Sauna made me laugh. i remember doing dexless thief and spending millions and millions on a good sauna robe, gloves and claw/stars
I felt a bond with alot of player back then. When you meet a random high level character and they gave you 10,000 mesos when your starting out. It meant the world to me as a low lvl player. I tended to pay it forward to all the new players as well/
I remember when 4th job came around & in order to get the Smokescreen skill on my Shadower I had to go hunt monsters for hours upon hours just for it to drop. Loved it
Maple is one of those game that "less is more". From simple time but great fun to so many thing to do but it all feels like a chore and you are alone most of the time with no one to talk to. Props to coppersan for sticking around though. Good times.
This was super nostalgic to watch xD. Most painful thing for me was going from henesys to sleepywood and dying to the evil eyes cuz they were way too high lvl for me then getting stuck at sleepywood because you cant climb back up… had to wait for a high level (which was like.. 2nd job) to come be a security guard to take u back up
I was always poor, which made leveling take so much harder. Luckily I was a spearman and not a magician so I just attacked without skills if I ran out of potions lol
I remember a trick in the Orbis tower, when going to El Nath. Once one was heading to El Nath and the ice start to appear in the tower, one could use a returning scroll to the nearest town, and then BOOM! got there.
I was very very young back then and didnt really understand how to game. I was bowman and I bought a hammer because it didnt use ammo. I used all my mesos to get to orbis and got stranded. I did around 50 damage or something and could take out an orb in like 20 hits, so I tried to grind for the mesos to fly back, but spent it all on pots so I could grind more easily. I was stuck there for like 2 days before my older brother rescued me. I also remember hanging around the green mushroom hill west of henesys and trying to steal mesos from other people who were grinding because I was too weak to actually kill any green mushrooms.
I remember I had a level 51 Fighter named akumario. I was so hype to reach that level (thank you CPQ days) and after that I didn’t know what else to do to grind to the 3rd. Lol rest easy akumario
One quest i remember as one of the worst was Mr. Shim's Request where you needed to get 300 bags of rice from Retz in Helios Tower. The drop rate was really low, and I finally gave up. Still have the 98 bags i collected in my inventory as a souvenir from the Maplestory i grew up with.
Remember back then we all do a party quest in Kerning City from lvl 2x-30? The game used to have a command which you type in chat, and you can track a player's current location. Since only one party can get in the party quest on each channel, we will copy down all the players name, then try to figure out which group got in with the command. Once we found the person, we would keep tracking and we would know if the group is in the last map of the quest. Then we will start spam clicking the npc to try to get in for the quest. Good old time! P.S. I am still farming for my Pan Lid
Man, I was like 15 when I first started playing. Now I’m 27, it feels just like yesterday I first logged in. Tons of great memories, it won’t ever be the same.

@@ableuchaenel5600 Well bad news is: as of today, i still owe my friend 7b mesos cuz all those mw30 failed, but good news is: thank goodness they dont play maplestory anymore XD
From a player who just started playing 1 year ago, this just hits my soul so hard. And also, a lot of respect to the old players!
I listen to the old soundtracks (henny, ship to orbis, etc)when I play now, am I the only one who does that??
I work 3rd shift and I play it on a playlist while I'm working.
Nope l do too
I do
Nice video! Also when it comes to annoying quests, The Hero's gladius comes to mind. Also those deep sea Aqua Road quests.
PQ’s being the best source of xp and having pages of names saved to use as track.
I still remember farming for 8hours non stop at sky nest to get all peridots lol
These things prepared me for real life.
Hands down, worst old school quest in Maplestory was Shumi's Lost Coin.
Yeah screw that quest🤣
omg that quest is a total nightmare
dang i remember that jump quest. i remember ppl training when they got to the last map inside the train
I also messed up my ice mages stats so bad I was so weak it would take 9 hits just kill one monster🤣 man no magic guard? That must of been hell
I did the same for my Cleric. Eventually i made another cleric post BB and mained it for a while. Then the RED update came and ruined the class for me tbh.
@@SkrymNV that’s rough :( i never mind when they change the look of skills tbh, i like a nice refresh every once in a while
the shook me to the core..but this is what made maplestory so great was the hurt you went through and seeing those drops and items was a very exciting thing you would party with random people cause it was a struggle by yourself thats what people remember from this game.
Rly felt these but they were also part of what Maple so great, finally getting past these was such an accomplishing and satisfying feeling
Every single one of these hurt me to my core. I can't
O god this video hurt my soul🤣🤣🤣🤣
The clip is just reminiscent. I remember how struggle was i when started with a bow man, arrow was so neccessary and rare back then. And it was so cheerful and proud when i got the tube, umbrella and the candy pop weapon. I just comeback and play new maplestory after like 10 years but the replacement is impossible, the old maplestory was the best back then. Thanks for the clip mate.
Arwen's Glass Shoe and Blackbull's deed to the land. CHRIST
Oh oh, the RNG of the Icarus cape. Praying you got the speed one. PAIINNNN
i loved old school maplestory so much! and ofc we all remember the pain. i remember the pain in the 3rd job advancement when we had to drink soup to stay alive in EL NATH zone while answering the question, i remember checking the answers in google and getting anxious checking if the soup effect is coming to end, i once died because of it (was mage class, fire poison to exact) and had to buy the dark crystal once again i remember it was around 3 mill mesos back then which was a lot for me because i wasnt into trading in the free market rather questing and trying to complete all quests in game (including jump quests), i would return to maplestory if questing and party questing is still a thing now :P, but it seems like it isnt, sadly. but im happy to see that the one of the games is still fucking alive!!!!
Horrible quests?
I can nominate 2:
The Chaos behind Alfonse Green and the Nependeath Juice
In search of the book of ancient (At least this gave you rocks)
For players who don't know how hard it was levelling up back then, go to 3:16 and look at how much his EXP bar moves as he kills mobs lol
LOLL i forgot how bad it was....POINT ZERO ONE. training guides be like "yeah so and so map has a great EXP ratio, about 0.03% per monster for most unfunded classes"
@@oatsgoats39 LOL yeah ikr, even at that level you'd have to kill 10,000 monsters for a level up
You should make more of these videos, and the longer the better!
Reaching 84 was my glorious day... goosebump all the way through the video :,)
Thanks Coppersan!
Weighted earrings from wild boars with a lukless cleric lol... I was a Henyhoe for a while until I was adopted by a warrior to tank for me 😁 Also, trying to hit jr. Boogies and neckis and Balrog on the ship!
Walking from Kerning to Henesys was a pain without the mesos for a cab..
I remember getting so angry at most of the jump quests as a kid, I only ever managed to finish the 1st one in sleepy (for ores lol) and the first two in kerning (for like 5k mesos and 2 fame lmao)
Holy cow. It’s wild to see you still making videos. I remember seeing your vids years and years ago when I played OG maple
Dying at 90%+ made you so mad you just quit training for the day😂
IIRC you also didn't want to go above a level before your job advancement, otherwise you'd actually miss out on a skill point, so if you were stuck on your 3rd/4th job advancement, you couldn't actually go out to farm mobs or anything that gave you xp.
above the level of the job advancement didn't matter, I was 87 before 3rd job got released as well as several other hardcore players back then. Curryishot (the 1st person to hit the 100 mark in GMS) for example was already 10x and tiger was also 100 before 3rd job was released rl friend of mine ice mage was 95 (all the higher lvls were farming at cooly zombies then).
@@TheRealPulverize Ah, then I misremembered, thanks for informing me!
HP washing and the insane costs of dexless items for assasins.
I saw "old school" so I clicked. Hey you forgot intercontinental ship travel!
I was expecting to see people spamming @@@ in perion when you said 'trading', that was way more painful than those shops.
oh man this gives me the warm feeling and memorys of doing the old kerning tower killing cds and bobas on a Friday after school ends what a nice feeling thanks for the trip coppersan
That FoG video brought back memories. Thank you :)
Wow so many memories!!! 3rd job adv was a beautiful and painful thing. Still remember my first sin to 3rd job, almost cried lol. Watching ppl doing their 3rd jobs on the internet with Linkin Park BGM
Love this kind of videos! If u can please make more like these
The pain from like level 30-35 you can’t really use your new skills from 2nd job cause it was too weak 🥲
every training guide: "you can put 1sp in your mob skill for fun, but you want to max mastery ASAP" HNNNGG
@@oatsgoats39 why must you hurt me more 😭😭😭
Oh nostalgia trip.
I still vividly remember spending hours and hours looking killing fire boars for Arwen's glass shoe and doing Jane and the Wild Boar only to get unlucky... ):
oh man, I remember trying to advance on a warrior back in the day, couldn't hit the stupid monkeys easily because of acc. Also I miss making friends in the old PQs like kpq, lpq, and even lmpq. D;
You had to help out a crying girl and i remember the quest being so lengthy and costly only to get rewarded with potions!
omfg i completely forgot about having to sit in a chair for a while to regain hp and mp
The loading time and lag was... oof. It’s painful to think back on it, ahahaha.
Can relate so much! Jump quest pains me the most, especially when missing the last platform and have to do it all again. Ouch!
Elina jump quest 😂
Didn't even watch yet but I already know this video will be awesome. The nostalgia videos are always so good.
You needed many many friends
bruh slog from 20-30 doign kerning PQ felt like it took FOREVER
And 30-70 was a lifetime.
I didnt get a 100+ until they revamped the system and upped the XP
Sauna made me laugh. i remember doing dexless thief and spending millions and millions on a good sauna robe, gloves and claw/stars
When I made my first mage I accidentally put all my points into magic guard, so I had no attacking skills...
Hahaha hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember my sister farming 20 pig head for a quest, the droprate is so bad we have to wait for 2 hours for her to complete it
I felt a bond with alot of player back then. When you meet a random high level character and they gave you 10,000 mesos when your starting out. It meant the world to me as a low lvl player. I tended to pay it forward to all the new players as well/
Oh the pain of not being able to jump down back then
Will never forget when i first defeated balrog in the ship and all the ghosts who had died and noobs came out and congratulated me xd
The worst quest I get in mind is the one where you have to farm 20 Lunar dews and the bonus quest tho...
But I really damn feel that
Think ill be needing counseling after this it all comes back now 😭
Coppersan over here hitting me with nostalgia. Whole reason I started MS again after a decade of not touching the game.
it sucks now, completely diff. not that it shouldnt progress as a game, but the balance wasn't found - it feels completely diff now.
