I swear this has to be some rite of passage for new players in 2006-2008. So many people got stuck in Sleepywood because they were too low level and didn't have money for potions. I remember getting help from some level 40 spearman, the guy was basically a god to me.

My most fond memory is being a Kerning PQ party leader. You would have to write down the names of everyone in the area and use the /find command to keep track of where they were in the PQ. If you saw they were in the exit stage you had to start clicking like mad to get in. After the PQ you had to run like crazy to get back to Lakelis to re-enter the PQ. The more PQ's you could chain in a row, the more rep you got as a PQ leader.

I honestly loved the 3rd job advancement, making/buying the dark crystal was a whole process in itself, finding the entrance, getting the quiz correct, and then fighting the shadow boss, it made 3rd job feel so epic. I remember failing the quiz the first time and feeling like shit, and while it forced me to get another dark crystal (rip mesos) it made getting 3rd job feel that much better. that moment when you finally get your first gen 30 book... and it booms. then you get your second and it also booms.... contemplating what to do with life knowing you burned an atrocious amount of mesos on such a rare mastery book with a low drop rate by horntail... eventually i got it after the 4th one.

You should make more of these videos, and the longer the better! The nostalgia hits hard; great times made with more focus based on friendships and social construct. Games like these are what are yearned for. The harder the risk (longer to obtain something) the better the reward. Sadly games nowadays only base everything off a quick dopamine rush. Unfortunate.

Gawd old school MS was a nightmare for solo play.
And speaking of skill books; poor Even and Dual Bladders back then; they couldn't get all their skills because some of them were cash shop exclusive.

May 2003, I played with a school friend ( still befriend today 33y), Maple Story. I had no clue, that this game was all about chugging potions. We both made a Warrior and never spend a meso for potion or trained dex. Leveling together in Ellinia tree with the green mushrooms with lvl 22 to 23, which was a horrible experience. Only one mob at a time and we never used skills, because mana and pots..... that memories. But when I had my first level 200 DK, I was very proud of myself.... and later, I relized this waste of grinding time .... :D

i remember npcing a lvl 40 weapon gave like 200k mesos so i thought that was important to being rich enough to buy potions. monster carnival had an exchange quest which made this possible, and in those times droprate for equips were really compared to now. i think i never hit past lvl 55 since i was just questing around. reading their dialogues made the game interesting. i still regret choosing a fighter because i was told that they were better compared to spearman. even though the game was less populated after the big bang patch, i continued playing, i played dual blades since their release because sudden raid was very cool looking ability while reminding of dragon knight's dragon roar being a full map attack. i leveled doing pqs and after hitting the daily cap i did quests like before. being higher leveled means that there were more quests to do, but i recall that some quests had a limit as in, if you are too high leveled, u wouldnt be able to do the quest, very weird. i still think the old area of masteria had the best lore, being written by GMS, which i notice that there were many inspiration drawn from western media like TVs, something different from KMS's way of story telling. for me, masteria is just a memory left behind, maps gone from my server, and only to still exist in some quest logs. i feel like now, there are too many cut scenes and with how u need arcane force to train ure forced to do the quests, but before, questing was a choice, some which were abused for making meso like the 60% weapon attack scrolls for glove. game is fun to play still, just needs patience to boss for mesos on mules to progress... not boring if u ask me.

There were actually different builds for mages, one of them was HELL build because you maxed your Max MP gain first THEN you put points into magic ball, you HAD to kill thing using Three Snails (You also had to HAVE SNAIL SHELLS) so you're farming red snails for looooong times and then farming orange mush/ribbon pig pain/10.
Classic maple was a PAIN, anyway you put it, having to farm the SAME PQ from lvl 20-30 and then the other SAME PQ from lvl 31+ (I nver got into Ludi PQ so i don't remember what was the max level) and those were the ONLY places to really grind for EXP that were optimal, and people complain about how the grind was easier back then, i get it that the PQ and social aspect and whatever but i hated it, if i could enter KPQ solo and finish it solo i would, i hate the FORCED social aspect in games (early Safi'Jiva I'm looking at you), getting around was a pain, getting to level 30 was an acomplishment of at LEAST 8 hours and having 1 million meso was a sign of having no life.
EDIT: Hell quests would be the Glass Slipper by Arwen and Kill 999 green/horny mushrooms for a measly amount of EXP
