      Hi, I love your videos, it's a long time i'm thinking about doing a youtube channel about nutrition in general (I'm vegan btw) cause there is virtually NOTHING in my language (italian). I check a lot of channels and info cause often in my country (I live in France now and it's not so different) lacking the direct feeds in a foreigner language a lot of infos come from standard uneducated people that mix everything is un-official (like anti-vax, omeopathy, cristallopathy, vibropathy, idiopaty whatever). I like science, and I like your channel.

    Totally anecdotal, but I ate terrible all through my teens and by the time that I was 19 people told me I looked like I was 40. I have photos from that time and my skin looked terrible, I had bags under my eyes, and I was stark white. Now that I have been vegan for about 5 years and I'm 28 people tell me I look like I'm in my early 20's all the time. I've even had people look at my old ID photos and say that I look much younger now, even though I'm bald! The power of plants baby!

    Finally someone is addressing the f*ck up YOLO mentality. YOLO is a stupid saying that does not consider the future of your health and the effect is has on your children, your family, health insurances etc. It's the most egoistic and short-sighted saying out there at the moment and people (especially young people) are buying...

      I agree that some people use the yolo mentally as an excuse to do stupid shit. But honestly, some of the best decisions I have ever made come from that same mentality. I have a tendency to be overly cautious and frugal and reminding myself that I only have one life encourages me to be more adventurous and do more fun and exciting things like travelling Europe (instead of saving money for a house) or taking a summer off to grow my youtuybe channel (instead of working a minimum wage job during my time off as a teacher).

    That "live fast, die young" thing is sadly more common than most people think. I work with a lot of young people (20s), and I sometimes, if asked about it, explain why I'm in the process of going vegan. The response, almost always, is some version of "but I don't want to live until I'm 100". They don't seem to realize that growing that old *and being unhealthy the whole time* is completely unnecessary. But these are the same people who diet solely consists of chicken tenders and various forms of cheese, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
    It's hurts me to see young people so ignorant and uncaring about their diet and health.

    As a dental hygienist I can let you in on something I was told in my training: There is no science to support the notion that 'pyorrhea' has anything, not one bit, to do with aging. Now known as periodontal disease, disease of what's supposed to hold your teeth in tight, it's just a slow-smoldering infection. Your body's ability to resist infection can be improved by not smoking/drugging/eating trash, great nutrition and cleanliness. No one can see into the nooks and crannies in teeth themselves much, so get some coaching on the cleanliness part. People leap to the conclusion that since family members had it, then it's genetic, so they roll on their backs and play dead, when very little effort and some hard science is all it takes to have a healthy mouth: the joy of chewing power and seeing other people's smiles ""age" while you stay young and awesome. If you want that, get it - it's EASY!

    It's sad that we're so scared of being miserable as we grow old, when it's an almost entirely preventable situation. Yes, growing old decreases mobility and worsens bodily functions, but with the right lifestyle and diet the vast majority of people can fully enjoy their lives until they die of old age, with minimal pain.

    Lol! You're so funny! Great video, I'm always disturbed at how people in our culture age. It's not normal for thousands of 'healthy' people to just degenerate to look like mutated humanoids by their 60s or need to pop cholesterol medication like tic-tacs! Also, I'm still continuously learning that vegan diets are so easy to be unhealthy, as it's so easy to fall into being a 'junk food vegan', vegan pizza, deep-fried vegan cuisine, greasy foods, etc, but I recently had (another) scare that made me realize I can't just get away with eating anything I want just because it lacks animal protein. Vegan meals with leafy greens and whole foods always feels better and makes my skin better too.

    So many people have the attitude that ageing, in the way we know it, is set, and going to happen to them, and that the only way to enjoy life is to eat processed food and animal products. When really, the only way you're going to enjoy the majority of your life is to cut those things out from your life!

      They value instant gratification over long-term benefits. As for me, I'd much rather put in some effort now (cooking healthy food every day) and reap the benefits later. As opposed to having shitty junk food every day and spending my last few years in and out of the hospital.

    • @jasonalbano5052
      @jasonalbano5052 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      People always hope that their loved ones will age healthfully, and die painlessly in their sleep, but it usually doesn't work out like that. Everyone who has died in my family endured years of suffering before succumbing.
      My father spent his last 20 years having strokes, infections, surgeries, tests, being attached to oxygen machines, having painful bladder catheters changed monthly, swallowing tons of daily medications, and so on.
      Maybe more folks would prioritize a healthy lifestyle over "fun" if they saw what aging and death can really be like.

      Clay When it comes to nutrition. It's a game of probability. Some people can lice extremely unhealthy lives and still be healthy. Similarly someone can be extremely healthy and be on a whole foods plant based diet and die from heart disease (I think). Now I could be wrong as I haven't got anything to back this up. It's just what I have seen. Everything regarding nutrition research revolves around percentages.

    I really appreciate that you cite your sources, and that your sources are actual scientific studies instead of articles from random pop-culture sites! I've been vegan for a few months, although I never ate much animal products to begin with, and I like to read these studies that you cite.
    It would be awesome if you would do a video about the enzymes for meat digestion. This is the number one argument I get from omnivores, that humans developed these enzymes to digest meat which means we need to eat meat and animal products, and that people who stop eating meat and animal products lose those enzymes and can never regain them.

    I've been enjoying a plant based diet for 14 years since I was 21. I was shocked when I met my boyfriends "carnivore diet" family of two years and their 21 year old daughter had deep forehead wrinkles. Like uh????? I don't have any static wrinkles on my face at all. She also had terribly congested skin. I felt sad for her. She kept asking me about how quickly my skin improved when I cute out dairy from my diet.

      i recall hearing that this may be an omega 3 to 6 ratio problem. 6 makes you more stiff, 3 makes you more soft. vegetable oils (usually super heavy in 6) are no good. also salt dries out the body, stiffens everything. there are probably tons of factors involved.

      nanook kernell nanook kernell thanks. I've been oil addict literally (oil+herbs+salt+garlic and dipping bread in it). Now oil free and low sodium wfpb for 3 months. According to cronometer my omega-3 to 6 ratio fluctuates between 1:3 to 1:9. Everything from whole nuts and seeds. Recently started to supplement with dha (just to be sure), but I don't want to be hooked on supplements. Usually consume freshly ground flaxseeds and hempseeds (and hempseed butter or spread, I don't know what's the english for it). Recently ordered chia seeds. I always had sensitive to touch legs as far as I remember, but this vein problem is making me said (I don't want to have roadmaps on my legs like my mom!)

    Could you please help me understand why a body builder style of protein supplement containing whey powder is bad for the body? Is plant based vegan protein powder better in general for those who arent vegan? I am vegan and need a compelling argument to get my friends (all gym fanatics) to convert but the question of "body builder supplements," tends to leave me without defense. Help a sista out

    • @downbntout
      @downbntout 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      T. Danger The whey proteins get thru the gut and into yr blood to cause inflammation. Get a vegan product?

    • @malinrobbins7779
      @malinrobbins7779 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      T. Danger The proteins used in body-building are animal proteins. When animal protein enter the blood stream it begins to acidify the blood. The blood cannot become acidic because if it did then you would die. In order to prevent this your body takes some of the calcium from your bones and puts it into the blood stream in order to balance it out. This continous process is what of the causes of weakening bones.
      Also when animal protein reaches the intestines it doesn't run through fast enough and begins to ferment into hydrogen sulfide (which is a rotten egg smelling gas). Hydrogen sulfide is a very strong carcinogen and a genotoxin which means it's good at destroying genes.
      Plant proteins are used and run through your entestines before they can ferment and do not acidify your blood.
      You don't really need a large quantity of protein in order to build muscle, your will always use the same level, just eat plenty of calories and you will get enough protein okie-dokie 👍.
      (edit)
      I have found out recently that my protein idea may not be true. If so, you can a tell them that vegans were found to have higher levels of blood protein than omnivores

    Hi, thanks for this video!
    I was wondering your thoughts on Dr. Greger's recent videos regarding arsenic in rice. A lot of people seem to think he is exaggerating/should be focusing more on issues related to animal foods, but I truly believe that we shouldn't be dancing around this if it does pose a serious risk to people who consume a lot of rice. What do you think?

    • @downbntout
      @downbntout 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Veggie Jax his series is important and almost completed, his summary point I suspect will be that when you cut animal food out you get rid of 90% of all pollution. Did you see his mention of Lindbergh rice?

    • @WithBACON
      @WithBACON 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Veggie Jax--you may find the article below useful. In general, opt for white rice over brown rice, as white rice has substantially less inorganic arsenic than does brown rice: www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/01/how-much-arsenic-is-in-your-rice/index.htm
      Also: avoid rice "milk".

    I can never get my LDL under 70. I have been vegan 11 years , whole food plant based. One time very low fat raw vegan for over a year... At times after that a bit more junky foods incorporated like vegan ice cream and fries sometimes. Still my LDL stays the lowest 79 the highest 91. I cant get it between 50-70 :/ RIP . Most my blood tests it was around 82. Total cholesterol 144-155
    So VG thinks I may have a higher baseline cholesterol score. Both my parents have very high cholesterol, especially my dad.

      yeah the good thing is , we all look much younger than our age.
      The cholesterol thing is also genetic prolly, but at least I can get it kind of low in comparison to my family :)

      VegAnn the cheapest way to lower your LDL and raise your HDL is to take niacin. Plus broccoli, tomato, ginger, apples, eggplant, green tea onions, flax seeds, chia seeds, soybeans, walnut, beets will lower ldl. Your cholesterol levels can't go to zero though because your body makes it because it needs it
