I'll never forget the soul-rending squeaking sound that broccoli florets make when they're being packed into a box, or the horrific snap of a broccoli stalk being torn asunder.

Nice work! Here are some other points to strengthen your argument.
-our saliva breaks down plant food, and not animal food
-carnivore molars work like scissors (pass by each other - slice; not smash)
-carnivores and omnivores dont get artery disease (their digestive system is designed to consume cholesterol)
-herbivore jaws move side to side (carnivores dont) to grind plants
-93% of choking deaths are from meat (our throats and teeth are not designed for it)
-we have no natural means for killing animals (are we going to sneak up on a deer and choke it to death?)
-herbivores knees lock so they can stand with little aid from their muscles (carnivores dont)
    -we are slow
    -our hearing sucks
-our vision sucks - but is perfectly suited to see the colors of fruit and vegetables
    -our sense of smell sucks
-we are in the primate family - which are almost exclusively herbivores, we are designed to live in trees (do you find more plant food or animal food in trees?)
-our bodies cant regulate heme iron, but can regulate plant iron
-ppl are curing themselves of all kinds of diseases with plant based diets (which should be called plant exclusive diets)

    • @sconnection
      @sconnection 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Not all of your points are completely bullet proof- We do not need natural means of killing animals. We could be scavangers so we steal eggs from chickens and eat carcasses. We can get a lot of decent vitamins from bonemarrow and organs.- Our knees can lock, sure. But to keep them healthy we should never stand with locked knees.- Sure we are slow, but if you look to our stamina at a medium speed we can outlast a lot of animals. That being said, I do believe our diets are meant to be 90%+ plant based. With all the luxury we have now we can just pick what we want to eat. So 100% plant based is a perfect way of eating these days. But before supermarkets and the internet it would just take too much energie to find all the variety of foods you need to eat when you do not consume animal based foods. (eggs, bonemarrow and organs)Again, I do believe we need to consume mostly, almost exclusively plants. But we are not herbivores.

    • @baneofignorance8530
      @baneofignorance8530 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

dcgfhgjnzgfnjcbgn I hate to break it to you but many points that you just mentioned do not necessarily mean that strengthens the vegan arguments. Don't get me wrong eating a plant based diet is healthier, but humans had a very different evolutionary history than herbivores and carnivores. Humans evolved through selective pressures from the environment just as any living organism, but with one major exception. We used tools and that will affect human evolution. Our ancestors were most likely primarily herbivores but I'm talking 7 to 4 million years ago. Then we have the rise of the Australopithecines whom we find evidence of tool use. The Odowan stone tools were found with animal remains that had cut marks. Our ancestors were probably scavenging for meat instead of hunting it. Although we do observe hunting behavior with chimpanzees. These stone tools allowed for us to cut into bone and meat without using our teeth, therefore that selective pressure would have been alleviated. Bone marrow is high in nutrients and proteins that our ancestors had to look for in the African savanna. We are omnivores, we have a varied diet that is why we have been able to adapt to any environment. For example there were two types of Australopithecines the gracile and the robust. The robust had a sagittal crest with large molars which is indicative of a predominantly herbivorous diet. They are an evolutionary end in our family tree( they didn't go extinct because they were herbivores but because they were too specialized in their diet)Gracile Australopithecines on the other hand had the opposite. Both used tools but different types. Then we have Homo erects/ergaster where we find evidence of using fire. Cooking was a major game changer for our species, meat didn't have to be eaten raw it could be cooked. We probably used it to cook not just meat but plants and vegetables which would be a lot easier on out digestive system. I can't cover everything but it's just to give you a general idea. Our knees may lock but we are also bipedal again this is more like parallel evolution. Our hearing is good but not phenomenal. We have actually really good eye sight, after all that is how we gather most of our information, it's not like eagle vision but it's fairly good if it wasn't we would not be here today. Our sense of smell is fairly poor, because it's not the primary means of which we gather information. We did evolve initially to be living up in the trees but we don't anymore, that transition occurred when we started living in the savannah. We humans are slow runners when compared to a gazelle or a cheetah but we are by far the best at long distance running. Humans can run nonstop for miles along with an advanced brain that allows for planning and imagination it is a huge evolutionary advantage. I recommend you look at persistence hunting which is practiced by certain groups in Africa. Mind you this ability was also used to gather plants from a wide range. I can't provide all the evidence that indicates how we are omnivores in a TH-cam comment. I just want to give you a general idea about how our evolutionary past affected our anatomy that may give us the wrong impression. I'm not against vegans, I think we should consume less red meat and we should actually eat more bugs to be honest. I think the estimate is 1/3 of the population eats bugs. They require less resources and have a high protein value. I think the meat industry is horrible and the way we grow our food is unsustainable. Raising cattle the way we are doing it detrimental and the monoculture crops as well. We need to change the whole system over all.

For a split-second there, I thought that you were going to say that a vegan diet cured her blindness.

    • @ParadymShiftVegan
      @ParadymShiftVegan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Grim don’t eat Pussy Absolutely. It's called diabetic retinopathy. In fact, it was switching people to a plant-based diet in the first place which revealed to us that reversing diabetic retinopathy blindness was even possible, as before the experiment, we had never had an example and didn't believe it to be possible.
In more detail, we have been successfully treating type 2 diabetes since the 1930's at the very least with "incontestable evidence" showing that a diet centered around vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans was more effective in controlling diabetes than any other dietary treatment?
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20319961
20 years later, Walter Kempner of Duke University’s School of Medicine proved in eir published results that with a rice and fruit diet study, ey was able to ACTUALLY REVERSE diabetic retinopathy in a quarter of his patients! This was something that had NEVER BEFORE BEEN BELIEVED POSSIBLE AT ALL!
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/13591100
But wait a minute, was it actually the plants that did it or was it just the calorie restriction?
For example, we've known that type 2 diabetes can be reversed by starvation for nearly a century and a half, since the 1870 siege of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War. Sad how ya find some things out...
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20546297
This has been demonstrated experimentally. If you starve people enough, you can reverse diabetes.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21656330
Diabetes specialists “have long known that the tiny proportion of iron-willed people [with diabetes] who can substantially decrease their weight and maintain this, can exhibit a return to normal metabolism.”
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18726585
In order to verify that Kempner's, or even the studies from the 1930's success with treating diabetes weren't simply from a restrictive diet, rather than a healthy one, researchers would have to design a study where they switch people to a WFPB diet, but force them to eat so much that they don’t lose any weight. Then, we can see if a plant-based diet has benefits independent of all the weight loss. And that's exactly what they did, an entire 44 years after we had first shown plants could reverse diabetes!
Weighing participants every day and forcing them to eat more anytime their weight would start dropping.
No significant alterations in body weight were reported despite restrictions of meat, dairy, and eggs, and enough whole plant foods-whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruit-to provide 65 grams of fiber a day, four times what the Standard American Diet provides!
The control diet they used was the conventional diabetic diet (which consequently had nearly twice the fiber content of the Standard American Diet in the first place, so it was actually probably even healthier than what they were used to eating already).
      What were the results?
Overall, insulin requirements were cut about 60% and HALF were able to get off insulin ALTOGETHER, despite no change in weight.
So, was this after five years, or seven months, like in the other diabetic studies I showed? No, JUST 16 DAYS!
To put that into perspective, we're talking about diabetics who’ve had diabetes for as long as 20 years and who have been injecting 20 units of insulin a day. Then, in as few as 13 DAYS LATER, they’re OFF INSULIN ALTOGETHER --all from just LESS THAN 2 WEEKS on a WFPB diet!
Look here - Patient 15: taking 32 units of insulin on the control diet, and then, 18 days later, NONE. LOWER blood sugars while on 32 insulin units LESS.
THIS IS THE AMAZING POWER OF PLANTS.
On top of it all, participants' cholesterol levels PLUMMETED in just 16 days!
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/495550

    • @horselover40
      @horselover40 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

you probaably shouldnt be giving a baby a whole apple, or even a cut up... they'll probably die( choking hazard) unless its mush. in which case you would have to mush the rabbit to make a fair comparison. If you are going to do that, I recommend killing and cooking the rabbit first, cuz if the baby does choose the rabbit, you probs do not want the baby eating raw rabbit mush. It really isn't a fair or reasonable comparison though since babies are literally helpless on their own and tastes change as they grow- I personally was practically an herbivore until I hit about 13. no moral reasoning I just hated 90% of meat. Taste is not indicative of healthiness or ''the way we should eat'' in any case. Put an apple and a candy in front of baby. see what they pick. or to make it a more reasonable paradigm, make it a 3 year old.

That’s besides the point industrial animal agriculture exists completely out of the ecological food chain that animals in the wild have. Selectively breeding farm animals on a massive scale while pumping them up with supplements, torturing and killing them, as well as eating them has nothing to do with a gorilla eating fruits and veggies in the wild, or a lion killing a zebra out of necessity.

I care, because the omnivores are killing themselves, animals and their entire planet with their actions. It's important information like this is more widespread. In the last few years I've gone from
      1) thinking I couldn't go without meat and it was a key component of a balanced diet, to
      2) not eating meat being a worthwhile sacrifice to my health, to
      3) realising there were no detrimental effects on my health, to
      4) believing it was actually healthier to not eat meat.
Now these videos, and other inputs from Cowspiracy etc have me swayed towards the belief that there was nothing natural at all about eating meat. Mic makes a fantastic argument, and maybe it's not 100% bulletproof, but the fact we are arguing about it at all just proves that really there is no doubt that the vegan diet is the optimal one. It's like arguing over the circumference of the earth, if you are arguing over that, you've accepted the Earth is round.
Some people are simply ignorant through no fault of their own, and deserve the information to make an informed choice. Some (many) of course, are backward and should be convinced to stop making such a selfish and destructive choice.

NOBODY likes the real taste of flesh. It's all in how meat is cooked, with herbs, spices, salt, marinades, bbq sauce...serve the cooked flesh with caramelized onions and mushrooms, roasted peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, good bread, condiments. Even those who claim we can eat some meat raw like sushii, sashimi, caviar, steak tartare...those things are still flavored by and paired with plants. The flesh is just an energy source (a poor energy source) that delivers those flavors...and it's a damn shame for the animals that people don't realize we can have delicious food without meat.

Hello, disclaimer: I'm vegan and a biologist. Also I wanna mention that classifications are in most cases "fluent" and not every case is discretely distinguishable. The whole vegan omnivore/herbivore discussion is pointless and in some cases misused as vegan propaganda.
The funny thing is when you realize that we're just discussing about definitions. Omnivorism and all other forms are BEHAVIOURAL definitions in biology. If you look at humans nowadays and observe that a significant amount of their diet consists of animal products and plants, then they're omnivores period. A cat doesn't include plants in like every single meal so theyre carnivores even if they eat plants rarely. Also comparing an animal A that apparently eats an omnivore diet and then look at another animal B that eats an omnivore diet AND then say uhh.. B has another anatomy than A therefore B can't be omnivore isn't actually exact or scientific. Humans started hunting, domesticating and it was apparently an evolutionary advantage. However if you wanna talk about about what is the healthier diet I totally agree humans should rather eat plants than animal products if possible.

The first one: When talking about animal deaths caused by a vegan diet, it's pretty clear which one is better ethically: www.animalvisuals.org/projects/data/1mc/
Veganism is about sucking less, not being perfect.
"Why is plant life inferior, in their eyes? Food purity is a social construct." Rape and murder are also social constructs. I also have a recent video on plant pain: th-cam.com/video/bRfX4X0V54A/w-d-xo.html
The seconds one: Vegetarians have smaller brains? Well, that study of just 107 elderly people doesn't exactly trump the massive Adventist Vegetarian lifespan studies, especially considering it was on B12 status and brain size and does not even contain the word vegetarian.
While on the topic, non-vegetarians could have larger brains simply because they are inflamed, a well known phenomenon from high arachidonic acid consumption. This video explains that well: nutritionfacts.org/video/improving-mood-through-diet/
But hell, Einstein actually had a smaller than average brain and he was a vegetarian ;)

Dairy and Seafood, dairy is a huge problem, vegans don't consume dairy what so ever. Seafood, either its by fishing or fisheries, both are horrible for the envyronment, fisheries waste tremendous amounts of energy. Furthermore "salad diet"? This is retarded. This article actually compares the caloric value between vegetables and meat, attacking how we needed alot more vegetables to be equivalent to a certain quantity of meat. What this dumbf*cks don't realise is that people don't want to be obese, people normally want to be fit and healthy, no wonder that Americans, who consume shitloads of meat and *DAIRY* are the most prone to obesity in the world, having almost half of its population overweight.
"people eat more vegetables, fruits, *dairy* , and *seafood* would see energy use increase by 43 percent" Exclude seafood, and it's all good, then exclude dairy and it's paradise.
Read this articles before you post them, you're speaking about pescatarian diets, not vegans.

Total BS. I covered both of those studies briefly already. The lettuce vs bacon one is based off of calories. You would have to 8-12 heads of lettuce to equal 2 strips of bacon. That is an insane comparison that is designed to make people feel good about eating meat. Actual caloric sources of plants like grains and legumes are by far the most eco-friendly and leave meat in the dust. It's like looking at the environmental impact of bone broth vs. wheat on a per calorie basis. Not comparable.

+Mic. the Vegan i will try and debunk this video. the way you are comparing the health of vegans and omnivores is ridiculous. Sure a vegan may be healthier than say someone who eats fried foods everyday or someone who over eats. thats what america does, their food chocies are unhealthy and they eat too much of it, along with no exercise it can definitley cause heart problems. you are comparing the minority to the vast majority. The vast majority who eats unhealthy. insted of fried chicken eat white meat chicken in good portions. fish has omega 3 which can actually lower cholesterol and risk of heart disease. meat itself is not the problem. its how much and how its prepared. i have many omnivorous family members that eat healthy and live over 100. people have been eating meat since we were cavemen/neanderthals, native americans, and african tribes. the enviroment they live in with no civilization, meat is necessary. food is harder to find and meat keeps you fuller longer. when these people see buffalo or birds and are starving they see food. they dont live in a nice house, they can but arent suppose to develop feelings for these animals. native american do pay respect to the animals they kill. they also dont have a wide variety of special vegan food choices that 'herbivores' can have in today civilization. saying human teeth are incapable of ripping flesh is ridiculous too, our teeth are perfectly capable, canines dont have to be that big. my brother bit my arm through a heavy coat and it drew blood. the mark was made from the canine tooth. theres even a disturbing video of a man eating and riping a live cat with his teeth. gorillas and hippos use their teeth for fighting. hippos fight other males hippos using guess what there teeth. they also use it to fight off predators. Gorillas can use there teeth to fight other male gorillas also. why are our canines so small compared to big cats, dogs, cats, and carnivores? because every animal is given a special ability to survive. when lion, leopards, jaguars, cheetah, hyenas and other carnivores hunt, they chase the prey and how do they kill theyre prey? they use they're huge canines to bite the neck and crush the airways. some are savage and eat them alive. but use humans, do we hunt like them? what is special about us? oh right our mind and intelligence. we evolve to have minds and hands capable of making tools and weapons thats how native americans and african tribes kill the animals. vegans also say would you like to eat raw unprepared meat? we also discovered fire since cavemen. not only does cooked meat have more taste and safer, but it cooked meat is better digested and keeps you fuller longer which is thought to give them more time to think rather than hunting more often. so meat consumption led to ideas and millions of years later we're here. why did you say our tastebuds dont have protein receptors when vegans are arguing that protein is in many other things too. we're suppose tohunt for food which is exercise and that is used to feed the whole tribe. want more food you need to hunt more. now a more civilized area we dont do that and we can eat as much and not exercise like were suposed to with extra oil, leads to heart disease. which is why native americans and non civilized african tribe, and islanders look thin. they ofcourse dont live longer because they dont have access to health but some are actually healthy and grow old. so make sure you read everything and im out.

+AnqzOG Behaviorally (in practice) we eat meat, but physiologically (anatomically/structurally/by design) we are more suited to eating solely plant foods. Our bodily structures, the design of our organs, resembles that of other omnivores: our long digestive system, and flat teeth, for example. We are physiologically ill suited to the digestion of meat. Metabolically we are poisoned, made ill by, the ingestion of meat and other animal products such as milk, cheese and eggs. Being a true herbivore, our arteries clog when we eat meat and other substances derived from an animal.

John Paradise The whole major argument over comparative anatomy is based off of generalized characteristics that are frequently backed up with no explanation of the sample sizes and the specific animals used to come up with such figures.
      Just generalized characteristics...
You're dealing with a classification that is not limited to taxonomic organization. You're basically trying to use things that don't matter as a tool to try to argue that we aren't something, that essentially is entirely independent from these requirements you're making up. This comparative anatomy nonsense is deceptive and downright disingenuous.
The reason why we don't look like we should is because there were no selective pressures to make us "look like other animals" that do eat meat.
You seemingly can't draw the relation between us being omnivores and how selective pressures shaped the traits we need to exhibit to get to the next generation. Simply the fact that we can obtain nutrients and energy from meat, does not mean we necessarily have to have traits like other animals that do. Nature doesn't work like that, functions that evolve independently often have different genetics and processes surrounding them.

Not sure why omnivorous biology is consistently left out of this argument and the focus is always the difference between herbivores and carnivores, the argument gets made that herbivores have longer guts than carnivores no one ever mentions that omnivores also have longer guts in order to capacitate both diets so the longer gut in humans does not necessarily mean that we have to only eat plant based foods it simply has to be that way in order to properly digest plant based foods at all , as far as clogged arteries go carnivores carnivores have adapted to a strictly animal based diet while herbivores and omnivorous were less likely to need that adaptation and a healthy balance of lean meats and vegetation fairs well in most omnivores what this argument never factors in I that humans with their cooking skills and ability to combine foods in a culinary fashion has led to poor eating habits a larger contributor to plaque buildup in humans than other omnivorous species who aren't churning butter baking chocolate chip cookies, and frying chicken vegetable oil ( which btw is a plant product that can lead to high cholesterol ) we have been eating meat for over a million years something tells me with all our accomplishments and planetary dominance that wasn't out of plain stupidity

Another great video Mic. This is not a refutation(since I can't) just an observation. Discussions of this type - what diet we are naturally suited / evolved to eat are to my mind of limited value. It's easy enough to cherry-pick, even fairly find evidence, for an omnivorous diet throughout our evolution. You wanted a link so here is it is www.vrg.org/nutshell/omni.htm by John McArdle, Ph.D., an anatomist and primatologist, a vegetarian, and scientific adviser to the American Anti-Vivisection Society.
I think we need to move this discussion away from what we evolved to eat and toward we are best adapted to eat now. I am much more impressed with the work of Esselstyn et all showing the numerous health advantages of a plant-based diet. Another thing to note is we, vegans, don't have to win this argument, we only have to tie. Even if it's possible to eat a healthy omnivorous diet or a healthy plant-based diet, the only ethical choice is the one that doesn't necessarily involve the killing and enslavement of non-human animals. Ties go to the vegans.

You obviously don't believe that "ties go to the vegans" or otherwise you people wouldn't find it necessary to make up stupid lies to promote your cause, like humans being herbivores. Clearly you agree that the "moral" issue is just a subjective and personal view so you need to come up with some (false) objective reason to support veganism that doesn't rely on people's morality.

Great video. There are other clues as well:
    1) Carnivores make their own vitamin C, we do not because our early ancestors ate so much fruit
    2) Carnivores preferred energy source is protein, ours is carbohydrate
    3) Carnivores cannot make taurine (which can only be found in flesh), yet require it. We have no problems with making our own taurine
    4) Carnivores cannot overdose on cholesterol, we can, with disastrous consequences.
    5) Obligate carnivores require vitamin A in its preformed state and cannot make it from beta carotene like humans can

"Omnivore is a consumption classification for animals that have the capability to obtain energy and nutrients from materials originating from plant and animal origin"
Notice that definition from Wikipedia says nothing at all about the long or short term health aspects of food sources, simply the capability to obtain energy and nutrients from both plant and animal. That makes us omnivores. You don't get to redefine a scientific term to suit your needs.
A plant based diet with minimal to no animal products does seem to be healthier but some studies have shown that diets including fish are healthier than strict vegetarian or vegan diets. I think some of the problems with your examples using modern populations of people who were historically more plant based is that they replaced small quantities of lean wild animals and fish with higher quantities of fatter, possibly hormone and antibiotic supplemented, factory farmed animals.
The jury still seems to be out on the ultimate health of a strict vegan diet, but even if it does turn out to be the healthiest, that would not change the biological definition of humans as omnivores.

I didn't even comment on the fact of being vegetarian or vegan lols. i pity your health since you have so little faith in your medical professional. I didn't even talk about a doctors nutritional training. I only said that they can diagnose your health based on scientific tests that are literally designed to test your health. not sure how this makes me stupid, but I am excited to hear your rationale- of course I dont accept" because you're stupid" or "because you're obviously a savage nazi perpetuating another holocaust " as acceptable reasons. the first is just repeating what you already said. the second is a strawman at best, and just heartless and insensitive to actual victims of the holocaust at worst. looking forward to your reply=)
