Sarah's Bookshelves age has nothing to do with liking contemporaries or not. I know people who’re much older than I am who absolutely love reading these novels. It only either depends on your taste, or you read too many crappy ones.
You shouldn't feel insecure about your reading, Caleb. You said it right there: better to read a certain number of books and greatly enjoy the books you read or read so much and end up disliking/forgetting most of them.
I read only 18 in 2017 and it was my first year of reading and loving books and for me I think it was really good. I’m a slow reader and I think that’s my problem too. I know it shouldn’t be but being slow at reading kind of puts me in a mood unless I really really want to read but I’m hoping 2018 is better for reading for me.

Damn those ppl. I used to read sooo much. I could finish a 600 pg book in a week and now I finish a 200 pg book in 2 weeks. Yess, I felt the same way about ACOWAR there are so many mixed feelings about it. The middle was slow and a lot of planning and the actual climax was so short.
I read 41 books this year. This was my first time reading. I never read until the 15th of December 2016 and since I started I just could not stop. reading is my new favourite place.

Warbringer uh? i still don't know how i feel about that and it's been like 5 months since i read it, i don't think i would have ever piked it up for my self but a friend of mine gave it to me for my birthday and she was so sweet about it so i had to read it, i think the dialog felt to unreal for me and kind of childish at times, that said i did find it kind of entertaining, i guess i'm just growing out of YA
In 2015 I read 107 books and in 2016 I read 25 books. Then in this year I read 41 books. I have been in a reading slump for almost two years. I’m really going to try in 2018 to at least read 75 books.
I feel you, I've read much less in 2017. I need to feel a right energy when starting a book and recently that just hasn't happened a lot, but i still love books.

Thank you for that comment about John Green! I love his style and how he takes the contemporary genre and serious topics but puts them in the weird world of his books. He’s something a bit different. I get not liking his style but all the people hating him for being unrealistic are missing the point

It doesn’t make you any less of a book fan or less intelligent. The idea that the number of books correlated with your love for books is ridiculous and shallow. I could read 13 bad books and they wouldn’t be worth my love for books, but one really good book that took me forever to read would be more worth it (I’m a dreadfully slow reader anyway). You do you, and just read for pleasure. Because reading for numbers sucks the fun from it.

Oh and I also started HRT in February so 2017 has definitely been good to me. I want to read more again but at the same time I set my reading goal to 13. At the start of this year i was so motivated to read so i read like 30 books and after june that motivation died and depression was like hi so yeah but my goal this year is to read 50 books at least so les see what happens

I am literally Sarah j Maas trash like I love Her so much and acowar was my most anticipated release of the year but as much as I loved it I was let down by it! I just expected so much more. I prefer ACOTAR to TOG series.I prefer Feyre to Aelin,even the male characters in this book are better than TOG.except Dorian. Dorian is love.
