The aerials on the drone pick up the signal better from the back of the drone. It drops off when the drone is facing towards you. If you reverse back you will still get a signal.

Nice range cushion. I can't imagine needing that very often. I've had my non-FCC version out to about 2.5 miles and that was plenty, not to mention the +battery was close to RTH value. I'd still like to have FCC power to possibly better keep the signal behind obstacles, but I guess you can't have it all.

Can the Home Point be updated on the fly? I’m thinking like flying it while on a hike that once I’ve left the original launch point can I update the Home Point so RTH would still be fairly accurate? Or a better option would be to set RTH to always return to controller, RTC.

    • @JandE-TEX-DRONES
      @JandE-TEX-DRONES  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

There’s an issue with this! Currently right now the Home Point be updated to either the drone or to the controller and I think a location. The problem with this is it’s not live update meaning say you update it to the controller and you walk another mile well whenever it returns home it’s gonna go to the location you originally set. Hopefully DJI will correct this.

Does the US officially have remote ID now for drones over 250g? If/when it becomes a thing over here in thr UK (and I hope it doesn’t) then they reckon it’ll even include sub 250g drones!
Anyway, as for my question…. With DJI drones already having RID built in, would the Mini 4 Pro prompt you or warn you about RID when you power up with the heavier battery?
    Cheers,
    Steve

I am registered with FAA but here is what I found.
      Recreational Drones Under 250g
Exemption Criteria: Drones weighing under 250 grams (approximately 0.55 lbs) are exempt from the requirement to be registered with the FAA for recreational use. Consequently, these lightweight drones do not need to comply with Remote ID requirements March 3,2024.
All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. Drones registered under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations cannot be flown under Part 107.Mar 18, 2024
I have the plus battery and no I don’t get any kind of warning on my RC2 controller.

The mini 3 pro’s batteries take the weight of the mini 4 pro over the 250g, as does the extended battery for the mini 4 (hence my question about you possibly needing remote ID) In fact we can’t even get the extended batteries over here. Well, not through the official channels anyway.

    • @Steve_G7RTA

Interesting question about you bringing your drone over here tho.. I’m not sure. I’m guessing it would still work under FCC but at same time wouldn’t be legal. There are dozens of TH-cam videos on how to change the drones to FCC with the so called “FCC Hack”. I know many Brits have done it and extended the range as a result. But at the same time, there have been (at least 2) prosecutions for pilots that have installed the hack. I think both were caught doing other things tho and had their drones examined..and found to have the fcc hack installed.

@J&E - I wish you luck with your new channel, but you're definitely playing with FAA fire flying waaay beyond VLOS at 3 1/2 miles and posting your videos on TH-cam. Even if you really have spotters along the route (which I sincerely doubt), it's obvious that no one, other than Superman or someone sporting binoculars or a telescope (both verboten), could actually see your tiny M4P drone flying along at 400 ft altitude, even directly above. I have both the original Mini 1 and the M4P and they both tend to vanish quickly way before they're 400 feet away, or above. Obviously, DJI's light grey color scheme doesn't help at all to keep sight of the tiny drone.
My old fart advice is to nix the range tests before you get the dreaded FAA phone call, or worse. I suggest looking on YT for recent range tests in the USA. There's a good ($$$) reason why people have mostly stopped doing these. That reason is the FAA is watching and they're prosecuting TH-cam offenders, such as yourself. It's up to you, of course. Good luck!

No the spotters don’t have to have 107. I have some info below on this. As far as seeing the drone and controller location there are apps out there but they do seem a little spotty. This is one test that I want to do. Do you own a drone? If so what kind? I love flying mine like most. Its relaxing .
      Role of the Visual Observer
To maintain VLOS, you must use a visual observer who can help you keep an eye on the drone and provide you with situational awareness.
A visual observer is a person who is designated to assist the drone pilot in maintaining VLOS. The observer's primary role is to maintain direct visual observation of the drone and provide the pilot with information about the drone's location, altitude, and flight path. The observer must also ensure that the drone remains within the VLOS and alert the pilot if it goes beyond the VLOS.
The visual observer must have good situational awareness and be able to identify any potential hazards that may pose a threat to the drone's flight. The observer must also be able to communicate effectively with the pilot and provide accurate information about the drone's flight path and location.

@@JandE-TEX-DRONES Yes I do have a mini 4 pro. Will go in the wild for 2 months soon. I wanted to buy a +battery but I am not sure if they see what I am doing with it or not. That is why I didn't buy the + battery. Not that I will do anything wrong... But the VLOS probably be the most common one as there's trees all over the place.
