Thank you, the best video I have seen about this drone. Fast, easy, no humourless jokes, to the point.
I want to tell the joke guys, "Humor is hard. Don't do it!"
Another gr8 vdo by Greg & the team from PI. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.
Thanks, watched about 10 different Mini 4 Pro reviews, and yours are the best and honest review…you have gained a new sub!!! 😊
The DJI Mini 4 Pro seems like a very full featured little drone. Great review, and thanks for sharing Greg.
Great review! Thanks for the effort and thoroughness
Looks like another solid offering in their product line! Thank you for this thorough review! It might be worth comparing the dynamic range of 4K 60 vs 4K 100fps. On the Air 3, dynamic range on the 100fps footage is substantially worse. Shadows are much noisier, presumably due to fewer pixels actually being used to create the image (due to line skipping or something similar), which means less light being captured.
Thanks for the thorough review, Greg.
I have come to expect nothing less from Greg and PI, but thanks for including criticisms, especially specifically addressing the inability to use Mini 3 Pro filters! None of the other reviews I have watched so far has mentioned it directly, though most have mentioned the filters that came with the test package. Petty is indeed a great word for it.
I have the mini 4 pro, I've only had the opportunity to do 3 flights so far due to weather and bad health but it's a brilliant drone and i have barely scratched the surface of what this drone can do.
I'm older retired and looking for a hobby and possible revenue stream with realtors. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thanx.
I'm thinking about going with the Mini 4. I'll be jumping from the Mini 2 so it'll be a great improvement. Thanks for the thorough review. I was intrigued by the part of the video that referred to stopping the props in flight if the attitude gets inverted etc. Luckily I didn't have that when my Mini 2 went completely upside down after hitting some tree branches. It did right itself and was undamaged. I thought I'd lost it for sure. DJI does seem to make a hearty, tough little drone... Cheers.
I've literally broke 3 arm axis from trees. The DJI mini 3 pro snaps like a twig. The service department is where they make their money. You think I'm the only one that's broken my drone? lol
Great m4p presentation. Congratulations. My m3p has less features but now I know what I can get in m4p.
Excellent review !! Thank you
Will be definitely buying this eventually for travels outside USA, since my Mavic 3 Pro needs way more permissions in other countries. Thanks for review
Thank you. In the 12MP image quality comparisons (22-25mins) I'm seeing sharper focus on the M3P vs M4P. You presumably don't since you make no comment about it?
Thank you Greg! Very well done sir! Much respect, T ;-) (When it's cold, I go fingerless gloves (index and thumb exposure only). Not perfect, but it helps me while flying frigidly!)
Yeah I was not expecting it to be that cold this early in the season. I usually have gloves but a heated controller would still be best :P
Great video guys ! I have received so much more information here on this channel (compared to other channels covering the same or similar content), therefore I decided to subscribe.
You guys do thr best reviews.. should have more views.
AEB in 48MP camera mode was added also to the M4P from what I saw on their specs. I think it is only 3 shots by .7 it said like on the A3 but good to have that option since it wasn't on the M3P. Love they added waypoints also... I wish they would add them to the M3P for us.
I've been wishing that for many months! Now I'm pretty positive they won't add it since they're on the M4P. 😕
Great review. This could be the drone that replaces my old Mavic 1.
Well done and evenhanded review. Personally, I would swap one or both of my M3P for MP4. Omnidirectional sensing and DLOG along with various other less important but utilitarian changes make it so. I was surprised that DJI designed out cross comparability of camera accessories between 3P and 4P. Not entirely surprised the controllers are not cross compatible. I think the RC with M3P was borderline for processor power it should have had.
Great Video but there is no link for the photo video comparison files.
Great review! I just got rhe mini 2 fly-more package a few months ago.
I would've been a bit upset if I had just purchased the Mini 3, However, my next will be the Mavic 3 Pro... or so!
@10:59 - I would suggest you invest in a set of polarising sunglasses. It improves the contrast making using the screen far more pleasurable.
I am interested in those 3-D printed legs you have for the Mini 3. Details? Thanks.
Thank you
Great Review Greg, love the upgrades , Looks very solid for sure. Maybe sell the Mini 3 Pro , hmmmm
Hello Greg, Great indepth review! Got a question, Im I able to fly my dji mini 2 without remote ID?
HI, G, do you recommend putting a screen protector on the new controller to protect the screen, hope you have the suggestions thanks much P,I....
I have a DJI Air 3 now with the DJI RC 2 controller, if I get my hands on the Mini 4 Pro, will I be able to use the same controller to fly both of them? Does it work like the DJI RC for flying multiple drones with the same one? Thanks.
Looks like the curse of a new model being released right after I get my Mini 3 Pro still continues….. Thank you for the review!
What location were you flying at in Colorado? The rock formations and adjacent lakes look amazing! Thanks
Great video - Solid upgrade from the Mini 2 - glad I waited.. QUESTION will the you be able to turn off the Remote ID broadcasting ?
No, Remote ID is designed to be on at all time and tamper proof.
Thanks! I had the same question. Great video!
@@PilotInstitute Have you tested this as in, out of the box, unregistered, does it broadcast RID as evidenced by one of the drone tracking apps? There seems to be multiple opinions on this, but nobody seems to be able to say, yes, I tested this and this is the behavior on this. 51 drones says he does not 'believe' dji broadcasts RID for unregistered sub250 drones but has not tested this on the mini 3/4. Alien Drones said, after that recent interview video with the FAA, that the FAA is not requiring this of manufacturers (that manufacturers must enforce RID broadcast even when it's not legally required as is the case for unregistered sub 250 gram drones flown recreationally). If the FAA did have this requirement then that would render the unregistered, sub 250 gram recreational exemption effectively non existent going forward as all sub 250 drones could be flown with extra weight and/or under 107. Would this not be the FAA acting beyond the authority of its published, final rule which puts in place this exemption? I have heard some say that since DJI does not know if the drone will be flown under 107, or over 250, they always have to broadcast RID. Two thoughts here: first, they certainly know if registration info has been entered and that is what RID is supposed to be tied to; second, is it really required, based on the published rule, of manufacturers to enforce the rules or merely to supply drone compliant products which does not mean they have to force RID broadcast when it is not required. I understand the tamper proof aspect, but is it really interpreted to mean RID broadcast must be 'turned on' even when not required, or does it mean for sub 250 drones that if you enter registration info you can not turn off RID? I have not heard anyone say explicitly that they have tested this with an unregistered (never been registered) mini 3 or mini 4 to see what the behavior is.
1) Do you have any info if this has actually been tested and what the results are?
2) If DJI is forcing broadcast of RID for unregistered mini 3/4, why? Is it really the case that the FAA is requiring this or are they doing this on their own?
why someone would ? it's for everybodys safety. , even Phantom 4 and older drones where pushed to get the firmware update to beacon the Remote Id.
@@rocheuro It is not about safety. Certainly not about the remote pilot's safety. If somebody's best argument is 'it is for safety' without articulating why, how, then it's just BS.
It would be nice if the Mini 3 pro could get some of the firmware/software updates with in its limitations of course! I like some of these features. But it will be a while before i buy another drone.
Hello Sir Can Surveying & Mapping been done by using DJI Mini 4 Pro Please reply
That's weird how it still has the knobs on the bottom even tho it has legs now 🤔 Cool little drone, Stellar review as always, Greg. Great Job! 👍
Quick question, I just purchased a mini 4 Pro and haven’t flown it yet due to weather. I understand remote ID on the mini 4 Pro. I still have a mini 2 which I’m confused about remote ID.. is It remote ID ready? Or do I need a module? or can I just fly it without remote ID… trying to get a clear answer. Thank you.
The file name issue is the reason why I keep my GoPro Quick up to date. Not only does it sort files numerically but it sorts them by date!
Great review for a tiny Drone. I hope to see a Mini Drone with a 24mpx 1 inch sensor and 3x (24-70mm equivalent) optical zoom. As an Earth Scientist my frames are mostly vertical...
Has DJI corrected on the Mini 4 Pro, the camera fogging problem that had been plaguing the Mini 3?
Hey pals at Pilot Institute, your team is awesome! Love your content and courses. So one thing you should try out is USB-C to HDMI on the RC 2. Just noticed in your video you say the RC 2 has no HDMI out, but it is supported.
We tried that with the RC2 from the Air 3 and couldn't get it to work unfortunately.
@@PilotInstitute I’ll try it with the new updates, but when I got it in it would mirror the RC2 controller to my TV
So a question if both the mini 3 pro and mini 4 pro both have remote ID built in does it require you to register it as part of the inventory of drones with the FAA if your recreational pilot
No, it doesn’t need registered if flown recreationally unless you use the larger battery that makes the drone over 250g.
*Did I hear you correctly that the "Fly More" package does NOT include the ND filters?*
Awesome review, as always! Greg, you are a household name with us! Early on, my better half would hear me mention your name and she would say "Why are you so impressed with Greg at PI, its not like you". Well, that speaks for itself...Now she askes me every few weeks how is Greg doing? Just like one of our family!
That’s so awesome. Thank you for the kind words.
Do you think that provided images point out that strangely Mini3 has better picture quality that Mini4 (Mini3 seems to be brighter and sharper)
I like it. The 1/1.3" size listing is deceiving IMHO being as though that's in reality less than 1". Very sneaky.
Nice video, Thanks for the info. Do you think the newer versions will come in every 2-year intervals or every year? If every 2 years I guess the Mini 5 Pro would be released in 2006, so the wait from the Mini 3 Pro to the Mini 5 might be worth it.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back to 2006! =)
Do it have remote I.D?
Will the mini 4 pro have the same comparability to use the new goggles like the mini 3 pro?
Let's are also for O4 - the soec requires 4 Antennas on aircraft - 6 on the RC-2 & RC-N2
Why did DJI not include FAA approved strobe lighting? I enjoy flying at night. All drones should have night-flight strobes built in. Nice review. Thank you very much.
That's another weight and cost and remember that they make drones for the entire world, not just the US.
Plus drains battery flight times, plus would put over 249g…
It literally has a led on the bottom that can be switched on during night flying
@@chaoticadventureThat's not enough to be compliant with FAA regulations for night flights. You need specific colors, 3mile visibility, and other people mentioned it but it adds weight, making it over 250g
Did you see that the weight of the mini 3 pro light weight batteries is different from the mini 4 pro light weight battery? Could you weigh the two drones without battery to see if they are the same? I saw in another video that the Mini 4 Pro + Mini 3 Pro Lightweight battery came to 252 grams...
I am taking that with a grain of salt, but would like to compare the weights of the drone without any battery.
I was hoping for an ND64
Hello, to provide a correction for the battery information: the Mini 4 Pro and the Mini 3/3 Pro Pro batteries are compatible, but not identical in standard size. 4 batteries are 2590 mAh at 77.9g, and 3 batteries are 2453 mAh at 80.5g. The 251g weight observed was likely a measurement with the Mini 3 Pro battery inserted into a Mini 4 Pro, which puts it overweight. When inserted with the correct batteries, I have weighed my Mini 4 Pro at 249g even.
The Plus battery is identical and not redesigned. 3850 mAh, 121g, total energy 28.4 Wh (up from the standard 18.96 Wh 4 series battery and 18.1 Wh 3 series battery). The drop in flight time is mostly due to increased onboard processing, as well as slightly different flight dynamics and sensors.
By the way, the aircraft, like other DJI craft, broadcasts Remote ID even when it is underweight. Buyers looking to turn off Remote ID should look outside the DJI ecosystem or at older DJI drones before the introduction of Remote ID across the board.
Will it track me on my dirtbike or does it only track people and cars?
I think I read somewhere that the RC2 has video out via the USB-C port...
No combo offered with the RC-N2. 🤨 I really wanted that option because I still like to fly with my iPad and not the RC2. Any idea if someone else has a similar combo with the RC-N2?
About the lens filter ? Same on Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro ?
He says directly at the end of the video they are NOT the same
Hey Greg, regarding "AirSense" - My Mini-3 Pro with the RC controller will absolutely pop up a message on the controller when another aircraft is detected nearby, in real-time, even if not connected to the internet, so it's picking up something directly regarding this. So are you saying this really isn't AirSense, but a lesser feature? It does not give the location of the aircraft, or altitude, etc. just that an aircraft is detected in the area. Living in an area with a nearby airport and lots of tourist-related air traffic, I see it quite often when flying!
How would you compare the photo and video quality compared to the Mavic 2 Pro?
I'm debating on this drone or mavic3.
If you have the budget, Mavic 3 for sure.
Thanks for the solid review. I have read that the Mini 4 Pro is limited to 120m (393 ft) to be compliant with the "C0" European classification. Obviously, here in the US if you have a part 107 license, you can go up to 400 ft AGL which can require the drone to be higher than 400 ft from the point of take-off. Thanks to your class I got all those questions correct on the part 107 exam :-). Can you confirm that the mini 4 pro max altitude is higher than 120m - I think the mini 3 pro allows up to 500m?
Max take-off altitude is 4000m. How high you go after take off is user set in the menu. Most people set it to 400ft to avoid having the drone fly higher than that, but you can adjust that on the fly or turn it off completely if you are going to manage your altitude manually, such as you might want to do if you're flying on the side of a mountain where the launch point altitude is irrelevant to where you're actually flying.
i am going from a Spark to a Mini4 pro, it's on the way here. I have watched some range tests where they said that sport mode uses more of the battery. I found the opposite at least on my Spark. I found if i went the same distance, on sport mode i used less battery. then when there. i go into normal mode and loiter and take pictures or movies then go into sport mode and fly back.
another post said a mini 3 and mini 4 battery both labeled 249 battery have a 3 gram difference and different wat hours
Is it equip with remote ID?
It has to be by law. The mini 3 pro is also RID compliant as long as you have the most recent firmware.
The ND filters dont fit on the DJI wide angle lens. The Freewell kit solved this problem.
So, given you're publishing this on the day of go live, does this means that two weeks ago, when you published "leaks", you were actually already testing the drone?
We do not mention anything in news update that was not leaked by other sources online already, whether we know the final details or not. If we have additional information available to us, we do not mention them until we are either clear by DJI or someone else leaks them.
Will the "RC Pro" be available as an option with the M4P or do you have to buy it separately? The BIG thing for me is WHAT IS THE RANGE of this? I was very disappointed with the M3P range My M2 is better.
35:44 Thank you!! This is the only video mentioning the lack of AirSense. That is the determining factor for me to get Air 3 instead of this. Give up true vertical and more likely goggles support, but get AirSense, better cameras (wide/tele), and some flight speed/duration.
Deep dive course coming up in the future?
Yep, it’s being edited.
@@PilotInstitute Nice, looking forward to it. I just sold the Mini 2 and sent the buyer the link to your Deep Dive Course, because that is what I watched when I first bought it. I recommended that they watch your videos on YT as well.
@@PilotInstitute Sounds good. Anxiously awaiting its release!
Btw. those legs are not meant primarily to add stability but there are antennas inside them (for better signal).
Yes but the Mini 3 Pro still had antennas, just in a different location.
lmao the shade at the ND256
The new controller allows live streaming from the DJI Fly App. Have you guys tried live streaming with the controller?
We have not tried live streaming. The Mini 3 filters do NOT work on the 4, I mention that in the video. Very petty of DJI, the mount is ever so slightly different.
Most likely the reduced flight time is mainly due to it transmitting 33dbm, plus the infrared sensors.
You did not mentioned that the drone is lock to an altitude of 120m for Europe version
Great review, but I would have done more testing on the obstacle sensor. Distances to stop, backward movement, sideways between 90 and 270 degrees, etc. This would be what would convince me to upgrade from a Mini 2 or Mini 3.
The obstacle avoidance on the 4 is definitely better than on the 2 since there was none.
And yes, it is better than the 3 as well since it's all around. We We show more of the APAS in our beginner's guide (that we also posted this morning). It worked sideways and backwards.
Great video! I am very disappointed that I just can’t purchase the drone and be able to use my mini three pro controller with the screen. You were able to buy the mini three pro by itself. You would think they would do that for the mini four!
The only remotes compatible with the Mini 4 Pro are the RC2 and RCN2. Whatever remote you are using with the Mini 3 Pro is not compatible with the Mini 4 Pro. Not very many reasons to upgrade from the Mini 3 Pro anyway.
Here are some break downs over batteries. To put this to rest for good from my batteries.
All batteries are the same physical shell, fitment and contacts. below is the voltage break down from my actual batteries of the mini 3 and 4.
Standard mini 4 pro (ships with drone)
max 8.6 Volt DC
normal voltage 7.32 Volt DC
2590mAH
18.96Wh
Standard mini 3 pro (ships with drone)
max 8.5 Volt DC
normal voltage 7.38 Volt DC
2453Mah
18.10Wh
Extended battery mini 3 pro fly more combo kit.
max 8.5 Volt DC
normal voltage 7.38 Volt DC
3850mAH
28.41Wh
I almost jumped on the Mini 4 Pro. Then you pointed out that all my Mini 3 pro ND filters are not compatible. I guess I'll wait it out for awhile.😒
I think for people who have mini 3 pro it is not a massive upgrade but quality of life update
So, it's the same camera and same sensor as the Mini 3 Pro? If so, I'm sticking with my Mini 3 Pro. All of the new features would be very nice to have, but to me, the camera outweighs everything else. I'm going to continue to wait for an Air 3 S.
Don't think it's the same sensor necessarily but yes, I don't think it's worth upgrading from the Mini 3 Pro for image quality alone.
Wow, DJI really loves that janky 12mp quad-bayer sensor! I can’t imagine why anyone would go for the Mini Pro 4 versus the Air 3 at about the same price with similar flight times and the Air 3 having actually cool telephoto lenses, but I guess some people really need a drone under 249g.
The Air 3 is about 40% more, not the same price at all on the DJI site. $959 vs $1349 with the RC 2 controller.
Because it’s smaller, has more features, is 400$ less, and takes great pictures & video regardless
It’s all about the photographer
When u fit the dji 3 mini batteryes it poup up a messege telli g u are passing 249 g , so in the E U it will no ve a C0 drone anymore
All the Mini 3 Pro pics appear brighter than the 4 Pro which is odd as I think the cameras are identical…
I think I will use the 12 Megapixel setting anyway as I want to get more pics on the card and I won’t be printing any of my pics poster size….
FPV support?
Don't know yet.
Didn’t you say it has remote id installed?
Yes.
Glad they kept the Mini3 batteries.
Will make selling my m3p easier to sell at a lower price
If you want to use M3P batteries on M4P just be aware that M3P battery is slightly heavier so with them M4P gets above 250g (around 253-255g).
The usb-c/HDMI cable works
As of Oct. 8th there is no DOC on the Mini 4 Pro. Doesn't that make it illegal to fly as a part 107 pilot? I remember seeing a recent interview with an FAA spokesman who basically said that only drones or modules with a published DOC are legal to fly if 250 grams or over.
Correct. The only way to make it legal is to put a module on top of it right now. There is apparently a paperwork hang up with the FAA for the Air 3 and Mini4 (and I’m sure other models).
@@PilotInstitute Thanks for the confirmation. I was considering a Mini 4 Pro, but as winter is about to set in, I will hold off and rely on my Mini 3 Pro and Air 2S for the duration. Maybe in the Spring.
I crashed my Mini 3 Pro landing in creek (over an hour) My question is will the batteries be the same for Mini 4 Pro?
6:08
Yes but it wont be in the air as long
@@Matanumi My Mini 3 Pro and the battery on board are a total loss, however I still have the extra batteries. Will they fit in the Mini 4? was my question.
@Matanumi the answer to your question is yes
@@LateBloomerMedia thank you
Definitely your scale.
What Fly More version you guys buying?
It appears the only way to get the sub 250g version, is to get the normaly fly more. I may do the normail fly more, and (1) plus battery.
Only upgrading if they make it qualify as a category 1.
Does the mini pro 4 have a fan or will it still overheat like the mini pro 3?
Not much difference?! The mini 3 pro 12MP sensor is noticeably shaper and more detailed than the mini 4 pro in every single picture you’ve compared for
Is it worthy to buy dji air 3 over dji mini 4 pro
Personally I don’t think so. Unless you’re interested in a second camera angle.
i wish i could turn off the rear LEDs to save on battery
The power draw is minimal compared to the motors.
Mini 3 Pro photos seem to look better to me???
Could you say some more about why you believe DJI "by law" has to be remote id compliant and by that do you mean it always has to broadcast even when it's not required (e.g. under 250, unregistered, flown recreationally). Keep in mind, all drones can be flown with added weight whether with different options (e.g. plus battery) or other third party things attached, or under 107. Thus all drones presumably must be compliant. However, I do not believe, and neither does Alien Drones, that the FAA requires DJI to always broadcast, even when not required. If they do that completely eliminates the sub 250, unregistered, recreational exception for 'store bought' drones. By law there is supposed to be such an exemption, or do I have that wrong? This is about the time the tamper proof reference, or make it so the operator can not disable rid, comes up. Is that meant to mean that any drone that might possibly be flown such that registration and rid is required (thus any and all drones) must always broadcast rid, or does it mean that if and only if the drone is registered then it must broadcast rid and the operator should not be able to disable it? RID is supposed to be tied to registration I thought. I presume you verified RID broadcast after you entered registration info into the drone as I presume you flew it under 107. I have been very curious if anyone has tested the 'out of the box' RID broadcast of an unregistered (never been registered) mini 4. While I am not convinced that the FAA is or should be forcing RID broadcast when not required, assuming they are not, it may well be that DJI is forcing this on their own but can not seem to verify.
By watching this video I got the answers I was looking for.
1. Can I use my DJI Mini 3 Pro batteries - Yes!
2. Can I use my DJI Mini 3 Pro RC - No
3. Can I use my DJI Mini 3 Pro filters - No
4. Is it worth the upgrade from the 3 to the 4? For me no but for anyone with the Mini 2 to the 4 absolutely!
I suppose it will only work with the new controllers...
251 g, because the mini three standard battery weighs nearly 3 g more than the mini Force on the battery even though they both fit
time to get out the dremel! 3 grams is nothing :)
@@Dartheomus but the batteries have the same inscription 249g
