ADDITIONAL INFO! - Hi all, Thanks to some wonderful people in the community I can now share with you some extra information. You CAN plan a waypoint mission without having the drone powered on. Here are the steps; 1 - Power on the radio 2 - Click on connection guide 3 - Click on Camera view (Top right hand corner) Here you can then click on the map and waypoints button and plan a mission without having the drone powered on. Another great informative video.. Only just come across your channel yesterday and it's probably one of the best and easiest to understand and follow.. 👍
Thank you Adam! I'm glad you came across the channel and you're finding the content easy to follow! I just want to help everyone have a smoother experience with their drones! Thanks for the nice comment and being part of the community! Have a nice weekend🤙
28:00 the most important nuance in the video, thank you so much for spelling this out clearly, I felt like I was crazy for figuring this out myself, hearing you say this was so so so relieving
You're welcome! I always like to really dive into these features and find the nuances that can have an impact on your day to day use and use in some situations. Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
I haven't tried waypoints yet but do want to give it a go, and your video has explained it very well. Thanks for the ultra clear explanations, I'm sure I'll come back to this video in future when doing some waypoint planning.
Another excellent video, and i love your detailed yet easy to understand approach. A couple of points which you didn't address: (1) the drone plans the mission using bezier curves. If you have some tight turns between your waypoints, the drone can actually "swing out" quite a bit, engaging obstacle avoidance. (2) If you are planning a mission including video and photos (i e. For a real estate shoot) , you need to have 3 different waypoints for each l photo : stop camera, take photo, start camera.
Hey! Thanks for the additional info! Yes, I did see the drone swings out to make the turn smoother, I hadn't thought to describe it as a better curve, but it makes sense. Thanks for your kind words and for also helping the community with your knowledge 😃
Thanks for this info. So to be clear, you can't just fly a mission on video and program the drone to take stills at certain points along the way too without stopping the video and then taking a still image?
@@kevintimmons446 just in the same way that you can't snap a photo while you are actively shooting a video in manual flight you cannot do it in a waypoint video So you have to set up either 3 separate start camera / stop camera / take picture waypoints for each shot. Depending on how many photo angles you have it is often easier to just run a video waypoint mission and a photo waypoint mission (or two laps in the same mission).
I have to say you are a terrific teacher. I'm watching many videos before I have even received my newly purchased Mini 4 Pro and yours is by far the best on I've seen on the Waypoint feature. I look forward to learning a lot more from you. Thank you!
Thank you! I do try my best to break things down into logical, easy to understand steps that snyone could follow. I'm glad yo're finding that to be the case and are learning from my videos! 😃
Thank you for some great info about DJI mini pro 4. I watched many of your informative videos. When I create an off-site way point mission I save battery power by turning on the drone only until I have the map on screen of the remote. You can then turn off the drone to save the battery and continue creating the waypoint mission. Cheers.
You don't need to power on drone. Turn on controller then go to connection guide, then minin4 pro, click the "view camera screen" on top right and it will take you there. Without powering on the drone at all ☺️ Hope this helps!
Justin, excellent tutorial. Just graduated from the MP3 to the Air 3S. Needed a good tutorial on waypoints. Much more in-depth than the DJI video. Your pacing, tone, and speaking style was perfect. There's too many speed talkers or slow talkers. You are just the right speed! Thanks!
Thank you! Ah very nice! The Air 3S is goign to be a very popular drone, and rightly so. I haven't got my hands on one yet but hopefully soon. I'm glad you found this tutorial to be just right. I just try to make my tutorials like I'm explaining something to a friend. I don't see the point in being extremely fast or painfully slow. I'm glad you found that to be the case. Good luck and I wish you all the best with your new Air 3S 😃
Wonderful job describing this powerful feature of the Mini 4. As the weather improves I plan to go out and do a couple of missions, both pre-planned as well as on-site, using your guidelines. Thanks mate, cheers from Vancouver BC🇨🇦👍🏼😄
Wow, there is a lot of information in this video. I will have to rewatch several or many times. Great job with your examples and giving us visual descriptions along with your gentle audio. Great job. Now, that winter comment...stick to the warm :) Thank you.
Yeah, I took a lot of time to really get to know the ins and outs of waypoints so I could deliver the most comprehensive guide I could. Lots of info to take in but it's all there 😃 thanks again for the kind words and good feedback 😃
This is a great video! The mini 4 pro is vastly superior to my existing spark. I love the battery life and all the capabilities that go along with it. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you! Yes the Mini 4 Pro is a massive leap up from the spark. The battery life is phenomenal for such a small drone. I love it, the best sub 25og drone we have ever seen that's for sure! 😃
Thank you! I'm really glad it's been a helpful resource. It took a lot of time to produce, but I wanted to be comprehensive and get all the info across in a digestible manner. More than happy to help 😊

Well done Justin, you did it again! As usual we get information that we do not find on other tutorials. All the questions I had were answered and then you brought to my attention some things I was not even aware of regarding waypoint missions. You go into so much details, it shows that you have done a LOT of homework and testing on your own before summarizing everything neatly for us. I had no idea that when using manual or custom for heading/tilt, the section of the mission that those applied to were not the same as for the default settings. I did a double-take when you said that and had to rewind the video to make sure I understood that as it seemed a bit weird. But yeah, sure enough, you found another DJI quirk. You also make some great points about negative altitudes. As a beginner, I had other troubles related to negative altitudes when trying to track friends snowboarding down a mountain. The M4P basically lost track of them very quickly because they were going downhill (I was at the top along with my Home Point). This could be the subject of another interesting video although it looks like you lack ski hills were you live 🙂(maybe downhill MTB tracks)! In the end, I had to take manual control to try to follow them best I could as they were snowboarding downhill (and into negative altitude territory!). It seems DJI developers are flat-landers and never had mountains in mind when they built their drones. Maybe this will change over time. The altitude limit versus the Home Point also does not also take into account the fact that you may be following the contour of a mountain uphill and break the altitude limit set in the drone while still being within the legally set altitude limit of your country of residence. A lot of details and quirky things that have been mentioned to DJI on their forums. It will be interesting to see how they respond to all the user comments over time. Anyway, thanks again for this great video and I hope your voice recovers soon!
Thank you very much! That really does mean a lot. I just want to make sure that I can give the best tutorial for whatever it is I'm talking about so I feel it necessary to fully explore and understand a features good, bad, and quirky points. A lot of research goes into making this happen. I don't see the point in just repackaging others' information. I'd rather find out myself and then give my own information. Yeah, negative altitudes is a strange one. I never thought about it also causing issues with tracking, but I can see how it would. Maybe I can test that in the near future haha. Thanks again for the kind words, support and being part of this community! 😀 🤙
Very helpful video - my first try, I was having issues adding more waypoints..also issues adding the POI...I am sure I just have to get better. Also, it is helpful to download offline maps
what a well presented and informative video a credit to you for taking the time to put this video together that as improve my flying and use of the DJI MINI 4 PRO. thank you Justin, Please keep up the great work.
Amazing stuff I assume you have to guess the gimbal angle if pre planning the route so I can see why creating the waypoints by flying them would make for a much more accurate routine. I'll have to experiment.
Hi Justin, I just found your channel and I would like to say you are an excellent communicator. There is one channel, belonging to someone across the pond, who has an annoyingly high pitched, frenetic, seemingly drug fuelled, screech. I had to stop watching him after two to three minutes. His accent, was so annoying and combined with a delivery like a Gatling gun..no pauses just a constant stream of words. I posted a comment to ask him to slow down, and he replied telling me to turn the playback speed down! He has tens of thousands of subscribers too! You are a breath of fresh air. I hate to be unkind, but there are too many highly excitable, Americans running what are meant to be popular channels…….I guess it’s what you’re used to. Keep up the great works and thank you for making the video. I have subscribed!
Hi! Wow, thank you very much! I do try to structure my videos to make all the information easy to understand, and I just try to deliver the information in a way that's friendly and relatable. I guess I don't know wny other way to do it haha. I'm glad you came across the channel and have found the videos useful! There is going to be much more to come in the future so thank you for subscribing and welcome to the community! 😃
Great tutorial, very informative and easy to understand. I learned a lot with just watching a few of your videos. I just got my mini 4 pro last month and still learning the new features which I did not have in my mini 2. I will practice your tips and hopefully I can get better, smoother video footages to upload in my channel. I am a fan and your new subscriber!
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful and have also found value in my other videos. That's what they're there for! Ah, very exciting. Yes, the Mini 2 is a great drone, but the Mini 4 Pro is definitely a big step up in features! Wish you all the best in learning the new machine, and I hope to see some footage in the future! 😃
Great video. One comment. I am able to create waypoint missions on the map / RC 2 without turning on the drone. Turn on the RC 2. Once it boots up tap the Connection Guide and you should see your drone model displayed. Instead of selecting the drone tap “Camera View” in the upper right hand corner. You can then select the waypoint icon and begin planning your flight. Sorry if someone else mentioned. I didn’t read all of the comments.
@mel2530 Hey! Thank you! I did cover this in the pinned comment shortly after the video was posted. Thanks for helping out in case I hadn't known about it yet though 😃
To get around the negative altitude, maybe you could designate a landing zone on the hike up. Leave behind a landing pad in an accessible open area at the low altitude. Maybe weigh it down so it doesn't blow away. Assuming you don't hike out of range, you could take off from the peak and head for your LZ. Land at the LZ and then take off again. This involves a lot of bravado and redundancy of course. But it would be interesting to try.
I always fly the route and set waypoints as I fly. I don’t do it before because I don’t know what the altitude for each needs to be. I don’t know how high trees etc are before I get there and fly to an altitude above them.
Thanks for the video. You can make way points without the drone turned on if you want to preplan them. Save having the drone sitting overheating while you do it.
That's good the hear! I did think it would make more sense, but I couldn't find where to start planning a mission with the drone turned off. Where do I find waypoints with the drone off?
@@JustinBainbridgeYTwith WiFi connected at home we can zoom in to any location in the world on the Fly app then tap on the screen for the first waypoint. The rest is as per your guidelines😄
Thank you! This was filmed in Koh Samui, Thailand. I found a nice spot amongst the palm trees out of the way. I'm now in Bali after a wonderful 3 months in Samui 😃
I've successfully executed my first waypoint mission this morning - so the tutorials are working @JB! :) It's pretty bright in Syd at the moment and I've noticed some of my videos are over-exposed (so far I'm only shooting on Auto mode). You've mentioned post-production on a couple of the tutorials ... do you get more into this anywhere else and what do you recommend for it software-wise?
Thats great to hear! Glad you had a successful waypoint mission! that's okay, you can still adjust the exposure in auto mode, I talk about it in this video here - th-cam.com/video/n-yQRAfSLME/w-d-xo.html Around 2:30 I discuss adjusting the exposure in auto. I will get more into post production in a future video. But I haven't shown my editing workflow as of yet. I use Adobe premiere pro which I reccommend if you're willing to pay the subscription. If not some good free options are Adobe Rush, Davinci Resolve and Capcut. These are all capable of putting nice drone edits together and doing colour grading and adding music/sounds.
This is so much more detailed than every other waypoint video I've seen thanks for this. Do you know if there is any way to edit a waypoint. Let's say you wanted to change waypoint 4 can you fly back to a similar position and overwrite that waypoint with new settings or do you have to start over from the beginning?
Hey! I'm glad you found the video useful, You can edit a waypoint using the standard menu features. To edit waypoint 4 you can just select waypoint 4 and then change the values in the menu and drag it on the screen to a new location. Unfortunately you can't fly to a location you want to change the waypoint to and overwrite it. You would have to delete all waypoints ahead of this one including the one you're at, and then create a new one in the new position. Hope this helps 😃
Great video as usual @Justin! I may have missed it in the video, but if you have an active (in-flight) waypoint mission and want to cancel it and return to normal manual control ... how do you do this? I see a pause button on your screen whilst you're in flight in the video, but no cancel/stop button.
The only concern I have is when having both units on and plotting my courses. The drone tends to get really really hot...which I'm sure is not good for the battery
Hey! I updated the video with a pinned comment a few days after release to update the fact that you can plot a waypoint mission without having the drone powered on. Here are the steps incase you missed it; 1 - Power on the radio 2 - Click on connection guide 3 - Click on Camera view (Top right hand corner) Here you can then click on the map and waypoints button and plan a mission without having the drone powered on. Hope this helps 😃
This really helped me as a starting drone pilot! Thanks a lot, one question, do you have the extended battery? Because you have so much fly time, I never get the full 30+ flytime
Hey! I'm glad the video helped you out! Yes I have the extended battery. It was soemthing I needed because I knew I would need a lot of flight time whilst filming these types of videos. When i'm just out getting some shots I rarely end up using 2 batteries. But when recording these videos I can burn through all 3 no problem.
Excellent tutorial! I have a question. I need to import a set of predefined waypoints to the drone (from the PC, for instance). Is there a way to do this by connecting the R2C controller to the PC? . I’ve been searching everywhere but can’t find a solution. Thanks you
@cesarazambuya7780 Hey, as far as I'm aware this is not possible. You'd need to use a different drone or a different app to use specefic waypoint tools like this. I know people like to do this for surveying etc but the Mini 4 Pro is quite an annoying one to use this type of aftermarket software with. Hope this helps 😃
Hey … I bought a Dji 4 mini pro last week and I already watched most of your videos. I am from Denmark but you are very understandable. Great videos. I am wondering if you can plan waypoint routes on your IPad and transfer it to the controller?
Hey! Thats amazing, I'm glad you got the Mini 4 Pro it's the perfect choice! That's also really good to hear, I'm glad you're finding the videos easy to understand and you've watched enough to hopefully get a good grasp of the drone and how to get the most out of it! I'm not sure if this will work but i would try opening the fly app, clicking on connection guide, then click on camera view in the top right hand corner. If they waypoint symbol is there on the left then you should be able to do this. If it's not there then I guess it's not possible.
Hi Justin, great video, very exhaustive!!! Thank you! Do you set AE Exposure lock for missions, given that the drone will be turning around in relation to the sun?
Hey! If the mission was as you described, then auto exposure definitely makes sense like I had to do in this video. Manual exposure would be hard to set for all directions. In this case, there would be too much of a compromise.
Justin Hello, this is my first common I bought my first drone DGI m 4 bro And I am following you, thank God for that because I learnt a lot!!! thank you, I bought myself a microphone and I started for the first time recording audio messages, Unfortunately, nothing is happening. Is There a way to have a nap for it. Can you please help me to find out how?
Hey! Have you connected the mic to the DJI RC2 controller? If so you need to do a screen recording on the radio and this will then also record audio from the microphone. You can then sync the audio in post production to match it to your drone footage. The mic will not record directly on the drone. 😃
Just curious from what I read and saw you dont have to move drone over a POI. You can set the camera towards if and then select the screen for the poi. Is that the case?
Hey! From my testing this is not the case and the drone needs to be physically placed over the designated Point of interest. The same is also shown in the DJI material around setting a Point of Interest. 😃
Hi , great video - will be giving it a go. One question, if I have a saved waypoint mission and then on another occasion try to re run that mission but my take off is from a different height ie lower down a hill, will that mess up all the previous relative altitude positions - must I always have to take off from the same location / height ?
Hi! Thank you! You're exactly right. If you take off from a different altitude it will mess up all the heights because they are all relative from the take off point at the time you go to fly the mission. I always reccomend launching from exactly the same spot to get the most accurate repeatability with the waypoint mission.
Greetings, Justin. Is it possible to take a photo during a Waypoint mission if you are already recording during the mission? I have tried to work this out to no avail. The recording always stops. Would you please explain the sequence for performing such a task? Thank you !!
Awesome overview Justin! I'm still waiting for the price to drop before I buy the MP4. I do have the MP3 and it's a shame DJI won't update it to do waypoints like the MP4. I just have one question, can you set a POI at a waypoint and have it do a circle around it at different distances using the inner and outer rings and also changing the altitude as it circles? That would be so cool if it can be done. New subscriber and a Gigantic LIKE for this one.
Hey! What you're describing with the POI is like a combination of Waypoints and The POI feature from the tracking section. These are 2 different flying modes so unfortunately you wont be able to combine them. ou can get a similar effect be plotting waypoints around the POI and having some closer and further away, and then just adjust the altitude for each one. A better way of doing it would be to plan a waypoint mission up to the POI. then swap from Waypoints to POI (Tracking Mode) and do your orbits. then continue with more waypoints of normal flying. Hope this helps!
The one feature that would make this perfect is when recording waypoints, the app would record the speed between each point along with heading. That way, no need to go back and manually adjust indivisual point speeds. Or perhaps there is a feature I don't know of to take an .SRT file and produce a flight from it?
I need to double check some of my videos. I don’t think the gimble tilt follows the same principle as heading. For me, it quickly changed gimble angle once it reached the way point. Not gradually changing between waypoints
Yep works pretty much identically with the Air 3, You have a few extra controls on the Air 3 as it's got 2 camera's but the general operation is the same.
Hi Justin. Thanks for the great explanation. A question about this... Is it also possible to set Wapoints "on top of each other"? Example: I start at Waypoint A at 10m, fly to Waypoint B at 10m. Waypoint C should be identical in position to B - but the height should increase to 20m. According to the scenario, there should be a vertical climb of 10m at the original Waypoint B. Greetz from Germany
Hey! Yep this is possible. This will be easier to plot when actually flying the mission as it can be difficult to select waypoints when they are very close together on the touchscreen. But you can place one somewhere else then just drag it into location above the other one 😃
Hi Justin...great video...I have 2 questions that I hope you can answer.....one is: can you change the camera zoom for a waypoint flight from 1? The second question is: if I set up a flight with 10 waypoints, and I start recording at WP1 and I want to take a photo from let's use WP5 for example....will the camera resume recording video after taking a picture?....or do I have to set up another waypoint adjacent to WP5...which would become WP6 and "start recording" to continue recording the flight?
Hello, Yes, you can change the zoom from 1 up to 4x. I personally don't recommend it because you can just zoom in post, but you're welcome to use the zoom if you wish. And yep, you got it. You will need to have a waypoint afterwards that starts recording again. I find it less hassle to just set the drone to hover for a few seconds where I want a picture, then I just take a screenshot afterwarfs to make it easier. But see what works best for you! 😃
Hey! I haven't tested this so i'm not sure, I would guess that the recording would continue after taking the picture. I will test this and get back to you if you havent already tried it by then 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT How precise are those waypoints, suppose I want to fly the same route multiple times within a year. Is there much variation between them?
They are extremely precise. The GPS data used for waypoints gives us a very accurate, repeatable route. The only thing to remember is to launch from the same place each time so that the 0 altitude remains consistent for the best results. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Same 'place' or same 'altitude'. Can't you start at home for a mission and next time start 100 yards away as long as you're at the 'home' altitude? Thanks.
@oregon1232 Same altitude. The reason I say the same place is because even small changes in height will affect the waypoint mission. Even if the ground looks level it might not be. But yes the same altitude, and the best way to guarantee that is to start from the same place 😃
Justin, something I don't understand about planning a waypoint mission at home.. I have a saved an offline map for use in a remote location where there is no WiFi or cellular. Can I use this downloaded map to plan a waypoint mission at home? I can't see how. Alternatively, if I plan and save the mission on a live online map at home, does that save the map as well as the mission waypoints etc?
Hi, if you have a downloaded map then when you arrive at your location, you should turn the radio and drone on so it can get it's GPS location. This should bring up the map area that you are in, and I would guess you could plan a mission from that as you would be able to now see the downloaded map area. A good test would be to try access the downloaded map at home whilst not connected to the Internet, open the maps and move to the location you have downloaded manually. That'll let you know if you can plan the Mission. I can't see why not though. I think thay waypoints use GPS coordinates so it shouldn't matter if you can see the actual map or not on location. The Mission should still be saved and able to be flown.
You can't use Waypoints when using the goggles. Some functions are not available when using the Goggles and Waypoints is one of them. Hope this helps 😃
I have set 6 waypoints & 1 POI. It seems I cannot adjust my Gimble Tilt, (if I have a POI) let's say to -20, it shows POI 1 through 6. I have linked the waypoints & unlinked them. I am circling a parcel & I am trying to look downward and not at the horizon. Thank you for your help
Hey, to do this you can't have the POI linked to the waypoint as the drone with auto adjust the gimbal based on the POI location. You either need to adjust the POI altitude or just manually set the heading and gimbal tilt. Hope this helps
HA HA ! Can I just ask you please ,how long is the learning curve for the average person to competently understand ,and fly this drone ? Thanks for any reply from anyone .. God bless 🙂
It's a pretty smooth learning process with this drone. Very beginner friendly and easy to learn to use. Waypoints is one of the most complex features, but generally it's really simple 😃
Hey Justin ! Thank you much for your reply , the last drone I really flew was just a big ariel camera realy ,it was DJI's Inspire 1 V1 ( Heck of a drone with various differnet basic features on it ) the new ones cost a fortune !! , bit not like these little mini's and Mavic Air 3's seem to have . I might well get one , If I do , I send you my first footage to check out , its wont be from Thailand lol but it will be from North Wales , which is awersome if its dry and sunny , not seeing much of that here yet though .. sign of the times we live in now I guess. Much love David and God bless you 🙂
Unfortunately, I don't have access to an RCN2 controller. The process is mostly the same as you'll see the same things displayed on your phone screen. The only thing is you'll probably have to just tap the plus on the screen to add a new waypoint because of the lack of rear buttons. 😃
Justin, If you start a waypoint mission and the aircraft loses connectivity will it finish the mission or abort it and return home? I would hope that it would complete the mission as RTH is almost always set at the last waypoint.
Hey, once you planned the mission and press next you are taken to the screen with global speed etc, there you have on signal lost actions. You can select either continue the Mission, Return to home, Hover, or land. So if you're expecting a signal loss and reconnection due to the nature of the Mission, you can just select continue so the drone will complete the Mission 😃
Hello, I have a question! The altitude slider when trying to change altitude is way too specific, meaning I can’t get the altitude I need, is there any way to fix this?
Hey, sorry, I don't really understand. You say it's too specific, but you can't get the right altitude? Do you mean not specific enough, and you need 0.1m accuracy? You can't change the scale on the altitude slider unfortunately. If you need highly precise altitude, you will need to fly the mission manually and record altitude that way. It'll go to 0.1m accuracy if flown manually, rather than 1m accuracy if planned beforehand.
One other application where I think this would be useful is in the the event of loss of battery life and then resuming a flight after changing out the battery.
You could always just set the drone to start at the waypoint before you ran out of battery and then just match cut the footage in post if you needed to 😃

Great video. Adding the DJI Mini Pro 4 to my YT videos and will use waypoints a lot. Thanks!
Cheers.
That's excellent information, I wasn't aware of this! That'll make things a bit easier to plan without the drone overheating. Thanks for that input 😃
You don't need to power on drone.
Turn on controller then go to connection guide, then minin4 pro, click the "view camera screen" on top right and it will take you there. Without powering on the drone at all ☺️
Hope this helps!
Nice job explaining the waypoint process. Helped me find out answers to my questions
Thank you
You're very welcome. Enjoy using Waypoints 😃
Truly the ultimate waypoints tutorial! Very detailed and complete. Thanks
Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful and comprehensive 😃
new suscriber here, can't wait for the weekend to apply everything i learned today 🤣, wonderful tutorial i love it 🥰
Welcome to the community! Haha, yeah, you can have all the fun this weekend trying it out! 😃
I had a few questions, the altitude when starting a waypoint mission being one of them, and you've answered them all. Nice work there. Thanks so much!
@DblChris1 You're welcome! I'm glad I was able to help you get the answers to your questions. 😃
Wonderful job describing this powerful feature of the Mini 4. As the weather improves I plan to go out and do a couple of missions, both pre-planned as well as on-site, using your guidelines. Thanks mate, cheers from Vancouver BC🇨🇦👍🏼😄
Thanks mate! I'm glad you found it useful! All the best for your missions!
thanks man...your videos are amazing. easy to understand for me.
You're welcome! I'm glad you find them easy to understand. Happy flying 😃
Thank you. Very well presented. All the best. What a place!
Great waypoints tutorial, best in market 😊
Thank you! I'm really glad it's been a helpful resource. It took a lot of time to produce, but I wanted to be comprehensive and get all the info across in a digestible manner. More than happy to help 😊
I just bought me and my hubby drones. Can’t wait for our first flights! So glad to find your incredibly helpful channel, just gained a new subscriber! ✈️🚁

Waypoints are not explained that easily by DJI tutorials or any other creator than this guy! Cheers from pakistan, mate!
I'm glad you found this video useful! Thank you so much for the kind words. I tried my best to make the most comprehensive video I could. Cheers mate! 😃

Thanks Wayne! Haha nice work. Hopefully, it all goes smoothly for you! 😃
Fantastic!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Amazing stuff I assume you have to guess the gimbal angle if pre planning the route so I can see why creating the waypoints by flying them would make for a much more accurate routine. I'll have to experiment.
Yep, you would have to guess the gimbal angle, so if you need a very accurate route, it's best to fly it in person 😃
Excellent tutorial, learnt a lot, thank you so much!
Thank you! You're very welcome 😃
Hey! Yes, I'm feeling much better now. Thanks for the kind comment and well wishes. 😀

Love your videos! Although I am disappointed you are not choking on flys in this go, as that was great comedic relief! 😁 Cheers from Texas!
😂 yeah haha they definitely added something that's for sure, I'm glad I'm not being kamikazed during filming though 😂
Thanks for the video 🙂 what I've learned yesterday is that it hard to do a waypoint on the screen because of it's size.
No problem! Yeah it can be difficult to plan a small mission on the screen. But larger distance missions aren't too bad 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT true this 🙂
To get around the negative altitude, maybe you could designate a landing zone on the hike up.
Very lucid and thorough. Many thanks. Seems like DJI could add some software changes for Waypoint plannng for negative POI's.
Excellent tutorial on waypoints mate..
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Clearest video on this I have found. THANK YOU!
You're very welcome! 😃
You're kidding. right?
I always fly the route and set waypoints as I fly. I don’t do it before because I don’t know what the altitude for each needs to be. I don’t know how high trees etc are before I get there and fly to an altitude above them.
Very valid point. If it's completely unfamiliar territory, then you might be better off doing it this way. Thanks for watching and for your input 😃
Thanks for the video. You can make way points without the drone turned on if you want to preplan them. Save having the drone sitting overheating while you do it.
Yes, that's how I do it also. Well, still a good walkthrough.

Glad you had a successful waypoint mission! that's okay, you can still adjust the exposure in auto mode, I talk about it in this video here - th-cam.com/video/n-yQRAfSLME/w-d-xo.html
Around 2:30 I discuss adjusting the exposure in auto.
Thanks Justin … 👍

Good to know thanks.
When I plane a mission, I fly it first and click that C1 button some 60 times. Makes for a perfectly smooth mission.
Great video as usual @Justin! I may have missed it in the video, but if you have an active (in-flight) waypoint mission and want to cancel it and return to normal manual control ... how do you do this? I see a pause button on your screen whilst you're in flight in the video, but no cancel/stop button.
You hit the nail in the head. Hit the pause button, you can then cancel the mission or continue the mission 😃

Great video, very useful and I learnt stuff! Bravo
Thank you! I'm glad you were able to learn from this video 🙂
The only concern I have is when having both units on and plotting my courses. The drone tends to get really really hot...which I'm sure is not good for the battery
Hey! I updated the video with a pinned comment a few days after release to update the fact that you can plot a waypoint mission without having the drone powered on. Here are the steps incase you missed it;
1 - Power on the radio
2 - Click on connection guide
3 - Click on Camera view (Top right hand corner)
Here you can then click on the map and waypoints button and plan a mission without having the drone powered on.
Hope this helps 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT omg! I love this drone! Thank you brother!
Thanks
You're welcome! 😃
Great tutorial!
Thanks Don! 😀
Can you move waypoint order? For example. That missed shot of the house. Can you refly in manual mode and add that waypoint you 'missed'.
Hey, unfortunately not to my knowledge. You have to delete all waypoints until the gap you wish to add one, then add the last waypoints again
Justin
Hello, this is my first common
I bought my first drone
DGI m 4 bro
And I am following you, thank God for that because I learnt a lot!!!
thank you,
I bought myself a microphone and I started for the first time recording audio messages,
Unfortunately, nothing is happening.
Thank you Justin, excellent informative piece....
Thank you! Glad you found it useful!
Justin it’s Dave Australia here. Thanks very much for this video.
Hi Dave! No problem, I'm glad it was of use to you! 😄
Greetings, Justin. Is it possible to take a photo during a Waypoint mission if you are already recording during the mission? I have tried to work this out to no avail. The recording always stops. Would you please explain the sequence for performing such a task? Thank you !!
Thanks man! I've been looking for this!.. :)
No problem man! Happy to help! 😃
Good tutorial
The one feature that would make this perfect is when recording waypoints, the app would record the speed between each point along with heading. That way, no need to go back and manually adjust indivisual point speeds.
Or perhaps there is a feature I don't know of to take an .SRT file and produce a flight from it?
Don't think this is a feature that exists in this version of waypoints unfortuntely.
I need to double check some of my videos. I don’t think the gimble tilt follows the same principle as heading. For me, it quickly changed gimble angle once it reached the way point. Not gradually changing between waypoints
Yeah maybe you had it set to manual control or something at a previous waypoint? Gimbal action should be smooth like the heading
would it work similarly with an Air 3? Wondering which one to buy
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Soooo easy?!? 🙈 Thank you very much.
if you are video recording and the next waypoint is take a picture, will recording resume after the picture is taken, pls?
Hey! I haven't tested this so i'm not sure, I would guess that the recording would continue after taking the picture. I will test this and get back to you if you havent already tried it by then 😃
Thanks for the great explanation, helped a lot! Do you need start at one point, or does he fly to the waypoint itself?
You're welcome! Nope, it will fly to the starting point on its own and begin the mission once it reaches the first waypoint
@@JustinBainbridgeYT OK, I'll try those suggestions. Thanks for the fast response Justin.
when fpv mode, can I waypoint flying? or with goggle on, can I fly waypoint with setting?
I thought about both of those solutions and I will give both a try. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Much love David and God bless you 🙂
which camera did you record this talkhead with? the one on the tripod....
Hey! This is recorded using my phone. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. 😃
Can you do waypoints on the other remote? The RCN2
Unfortunately, I don't have access to an RCN2 controller. The process is mostly the same as you'll see the same things displayed on your phone screen. The only thing is you'll probably have to just tap the plus on the screen to add a new waypoint because of the lack of rear buttons. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT just confirm it does work on the other controller. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I’m excited for waypoint.
@dennisx4492 Ah okay. Yes, it works on the other controller!
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Excellent, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
can you plan the mission off a computer at home / off site.
Hey John! I don't think you can. I'm pretty sure the only way is through the Dji fly app or using the RC2 radio 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thanks
You could always just set the drone to start at the waypoint before you ran out of battery and then just match cut the footage in post if you needed to 😃
Hi Justin, great video, thank you very much.
