      It’s like in kid animal movies (zootopia for example). the herbivores have good reason to fear the carnivores because there are BIG biological differences between the two and carnivores actually have an instinctual desire to hunt prey and eat meat. It’s absolutely not a good way to portray racism. Actual, real-world racism is illogical, but a prey animal’s fear of a predator is logical. A better way of handling an anti-racism message with animals is to use dog breeds or something like that where the breeds have physical differences, but theyre still the same fundamentally (like humans).

    • @backwardsbandit8094
      @backwardsbandit8094 ปีที่แล้ว +370

      Yeah it kinda defeats the purpose of anti racial segretation messaging, which is to say that's entirely illogical. Shit like this only implies that there is logic to segregation because water and fire are fundamentally different in more ways than just skin color.

    I understand that the fence scene is supposed to be one of those haha funny self-aware jokes buut. Is it just me or it’s really telling how little thought was put into the world-building?
    Instead of making the element city comfortable for the ELEMENTS to live in, you just create a regular city but with some elements. It’s like Cars all over again. Why tf would different elements that can physically hurt each other be on the same bus? Why would they have cloths if they’re almost always inconvenient for them? Why am I even asking?

    • @vivil2533
      @vivil2533 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      If we think about their world building a little more than they did, we can find that such a fence could only stop Earth elements.
      therefore concluding that this specific area is Racist towards the earth people, or it was built by Earth people without consideration of other elements, either the builder was dumb, or this fence is ancient, from a time before the Elements learned of each other.
      at least that's what i would conclude if Pixar gave a shit while writing this.

    • @Wyllowisp
      @Wyllowisp ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Anonymous_Gambito You're still wrong because the usage of a fence still provides comfort for the owner of that said fence, but still that's not even the point for his usage of comfortable. The commenter obviously meant that some elements in our world have no place to exist in theirs, unless their are modified to justify their existence. Regular chain link fences don't prevent 3/4 elements from trespassing, why does it exist as is? Even if it's just meant to be a joke, they are literally saying "lol our worldbuilding sucks". Utterly embarrassing.

    • @KeDe1606
      @KeDe1606 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Another weird thing I noticed about the fence scene. It‘s about how the fire girl passed through it. Like, she straight-up erased that thing.
      Does that mean that she‘s extremely hot, meaning that her and every other fire elemental‘s sheer existence is a danger to all the other elements (except „air“, I guess). Like, if she can melt the fence in seconds, how come that water boy still… exists while being so close to her. Or how come that only the earth dude she touched erupted into flames? That other earth elemental should be in deep trouble too.
      Or does that mean that the fence is made of the most flimsy material imaginable? Like, if it gets completely erased by one fire elemental in seconds, then it couldn’t stop a running earth elemental either. That means the fence is even more useless than we could’ve imagined.
      Like, did Pixar just think „lol, fire = melt“ and never even thought about how that would effect this movies world-building? They worked on this for literal years at this point, meanwhile we, a couple YT commenters, we’re able to see all that from a couple seconds of footage?

      It'd be actually better if each Element had their own fences based on their architecture. The "Elements don't mix" line should've been changed for a more complex topic such as "some Elements aren't meant to interact. For example, Earth people having fences specialized on preventing Fire people to get in, because they're potentially dangerous for them, having air people in diplomatic positions, since they can get along with any other element without problems, etc.. everything presented in this trailer seems very basic, and worst they seem to be retelling the "Family expectation/approval" plotline AGAIN. For God's sake, the only one time I fully like that plot was Encanto; meanwhile, Luka, Turning Red, and Strange World repreated with mediocre to bad executions. They're doing this the same as they did with the "Twist Villain" trope in the 2010s.

    You know, I kind of used to defend Pixar on the notion that "at least they're not like mainline Disney who are always remaking their own stuff", but honestly it's getting harder and harder to justify that. It honestly just seems so petty to me that they've given up and have resorted to just making "Toy Story but with emotions" "Toy Story but it's the movie Andy loved", and now "Toy Story but with elements". It's like they've admitted defeat and are expecting YOU to pay for it.

We expected it to be a cool showcase of animation effects, but it ended up turning into a complete and utter tear-down of how terrible it looked and that we could’ve made something that looked better. The models are simple and boring (a TON of re-used character designs from previous Pixar films) and the effects that are supposed to give each element life look like baby’s first cloth-sim. We laughed about how the Earth-people couldn’t have taken a professional more than an hour. That’s not even mentioning the lighting, which makes everything look fake/ plastic-ey (highlights are too strong, low contrast). This was an issue back in the 2000s when 3D animation was first getting started (hence why Toy Story is about toys, not real people) but this is 2023! In video game terms, they’re trying to pass off PS2 graphics as AMAZING and REVOLUTIONARY.

      @@brandonburgos1215 I can't think of a single PS2 game that is on par with this in terms of raw visual fidelity that isn't a pre-rendered FMV.
      Also I think saying something is of a lower visual fidelity is "clearly cost cutting" is a very poor take. Famous example: which has aged more gracefully, the higher videlity Twilight Princess or lower fidelity Wind Waker? I think it's hard to argue that the characters in the latter are far more expressive and alive. I'm not saying that applies here, but that I think the blanket statement is wrong.
      Strip away the unique shading and Breath of the Wild actually does look like a PS2 game at best, but it's hard to argue it isn't one of the best looking games on its system.

    Frozen 2:
    Earth: Rock giants
    Water: a water horse based off of Norse mythology.
    Wind: is totally invisible and can only be seen by the things it blows around.
    Fire: ...okay fire being a tiny lizard is the weirdest one, but it's adorable dammit.
    Pixar:
    Earth: frumpy plants that are "seedy".🤨
    Water: Blobs that do water stuff and wear T-shirts.
    Wind: are not even actual wind, they're clouds who wear T-shirts.
    Fire: flames that drink lighter fluid and hate race-mixing... and also wear T-shirts.

    This almost feels like the antithesis to Zootopia.
    While Zootopia presents a world that is made for Animals in service of making it believable for the viewer, this world is not made for the Elements at all as instead just exists in service of lame jokes.
    In Zootopia, the trains have three separate “floors” for Small-Medium-Large sized Animals so that the mice don’t get stepped on and you don’t have dull jokes like the seats being too tight for the elephants. Here a Fire guy can just go into a car where he’ll burn the Grass guy before dying by bumping into the Water guy. Zero effort went into thinking of how sentient Elements would have built a world for themselves, instead it’s like they inhabit a world abandoned by humans so that you can have jokes like water guys getting stuck in sponges.
    It's like the joke from Robots where the robot has to disassemble it’s entire body to go through the metal detector at the airport, except repeated through the whole trailer.
    I legitimately think it’s one of the worst trailers for an animated movie I’ve ever seen; not because it’s bad, but because it too DULL to be even bad.

    It's weird to see a movie so fundamentally flawed both in concept and execution make it this far. Disney has cancelled projects in the past even when there has been years of work behind them. I'm sure there are hundreds of projects that we never heard of but even movies that have been officially announced and have scheduled released dates get axed. Gigantic, an adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk, was slated for a 2018 release only to be cancelled over a year after the official announcement.

    This film isn't passing even simple aspects of a worldbuilding logic test, questions that should be answered for a narrative to even function. It fails at fundamental aspects of creative writing basics, and that's just the _trailer._ _Toy Story_ was the kind of film that had _answers_ to questions like that that were actually somewhat intelligent. I feel like I've seen this concept done before... like on Tumblr in 2014, and it was a lot better then.
    It's just so generic, the world looks lazy. It's just our world but with elements in it. They even wear clothes! Like why? Also if the world is made of stone or earth, then the earth elements are like walking on a floor of flesh to them. If it was just human people with elemental powers that would probably have looked and worked better but then that's already been done millions of times before, and better, like in avatar.
    It looks really ugly too. Frozen 2 wasn't a n amazing movie, but it did creatures made out of elements much much better. That water horse looked amazing, so you'd think they'd have the tech and graphics to make the water here look better. It looks comparable to something from like 2008.
