  • Creating 3D printer filament from waste plastic bottles is an innovative
and eco-friendly approach to recycling. By converting discarded plastic
bottles into filament, you can reduce plastic waste and contribute to a
    more sustainable 3D printing process.
In this video i have shown how to make 3d printer filament from used plastic bottle
Here are the major components used for building the machine
    1.REX-C100 Digital Thermostat Temperature Controller
    Regulator SSR 12V Output

    2. 12V-40V10A DC Motor PWM Speed Control Switch Governor

    4. Orange MG555 12V 10RPM Square Gearbox DC motor Encoder Compatible

    5. K type thermocouple temperature controller sensor probe 1M

    6. 12V - 10Amp - 120Watt DC Switching Power Supply
    techtonics.in/product/12v-10a...
    7. Mk8 Extruder Hot End Kit
    8. Wooden board 12 x 24 inches

The parts needed for extruding pet filament
can be made from any spare or used extruder nozzle assembly set.
I have removed heating block and made additional hole for holding k type thermocouple
The nozzle used are normal used or spare nozzle
I have made two version of nozzle one with hole of 2mm diameter & one with 1.5mm dia. at the bottom side of the nozzle
You can also drill 3-4 mm hole on the other side from where the strip enters the nozzle as shown in the video up to half length of nozzle
This machine is inspired by @Creative3dp
It is necessary prepare the bottle by heating slightly to make the surface smooth and even
So that strips made are of uniform length
At first I made 20 mm calibration cube without changing any settings
Except for nozzle and bed temperature on my ender 3 v2 with dual gear extruder
The 3d printed cube was less dense as compared to what it should be.
This is due to under extrusion and i approximately assumed it to be 50%
The transparent filament I used was extruded from 1.5 mm nozzle
And as you can see the pet filament made this way are slightly hollow inside this must be compensated by increasing flow rate.
We made another strip from bottle marked with black marker pen to see some colorful print.
    I used Prusa slicer
I have selected generic pet bottle profile which I have used earlier
Then Go to filament settings and under extrusion multiplier I have selected 2 to double the flowrate.
This value can vary from machine to machine try testing 1 0r 2 components to make sure you find correct flowrate settings
And I had set nozzle temperature to 250 degrees Celsius
And bed temperature is 70 degree Celsius
The cube after modifying extrusion rate and nozzle temperature
The print came out very nice
A lot better than I expected
I was really surprised with the result.
While I was watching others video on pet machine i didn't believed prints can be of such a good quality.
Then I again printed our famous 3Dbency
the print quality This seemed better than PLA i suppose
Then I made other pet filament
    Marked with red marker pen
And printed this awesome articulated shark.
This seems orange in the video due to lighting and camera
But its slightly pinkish in color actually.

Really excellent. I was wondering, since you extrude the PET twice, if you could make flat PET and print that directly. The retraction and feed would maybe be a bit tricky as I guess retraction would need to enter a preheated chamber that accepted the flat

Flat PET may involve lot of calibration and arrangement. Since i used Bowden tube extruder it may be difficult to get pass through. I used 2mm diameter filament first but was not going through Bowden tube then i got 1.5mm hole this worked well.
Let me give it a thought 🤔 if i can work something around that..
      Thank you 👍🏻

@3Delite028 That would be revolutionary if you could. But I understand it is not easy.

I totally agreed, cut to size and feed the flat PET directly. you will need to accommodate a different feed mechanism depending on the 3D printer,.

How did you make the plastic cutter, do you have a video explaining that ?

    • @3Delite028

I made 3 variations of cutter.
I have explained lil bit in the video.
But the last one is very simple ... You can use few set of washer , stack them in two set and put cutter in between as per the thickness of strip required.
This arrangement worked well for me.
So i 3d printed circular part to replace washers..
      I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any doubt.
There are lot of video on making strips
But this was simple and easy to build.

Would this filament still be food safe?

    • @3Delite028
      @3Delite028  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

PET plastics can be safely used as food contact material. However, misuse of PET bottles can result in release of greater amount of chemical substances. They may also deform when contact temperature reaches 70oC from Google.
Since we are already heating it twice that temperature it may not be appropriate for storing food & who knows if some toxins might be stored in between layers of object printed. There's even problem with food safe material also . The recent micro plastic study in blood/water bottles
Results were reported on January 8, 2024, in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers found that, on average, a liter of bottled water included about 240,000 tiny pieces of plastic. About 90% of these plastic fragments were nanoplastics.

    May I see your wiring?
I have exactly the same electronics, but I can't seem to get the temperature to go up 😢

I have put the wiring image in the video, It is exactly same.
Please check whether temperature sensor or rexc100 is working or not.

@@3Delite028 I get the wiring right. But the temp still won't go up. Tested the heat sensor by burning the heat block with lighter, the temp in rex's display goes up. But when I set the temp like 50°c or more, the temp won't reach. It stays at 31-34°
I am going to replace the heater catridge as my last resort. If it still not work, I don't know what to do 😞

Hey there might be some issue with solid state relay or Rexc100.
      Possibly rexc100
Because from past few days i am also facing issue with temperature controller. In my case after setting temperature it is going 30-40 degrees Celsius above
And then fluctuating up down , not remaining constant.
May be these components are of cheap quality.
      I bought it from robu.in
      Not working as needed.
From Where did you bought the components?

@@3Delite028 turns out my old heater is busted, lol. I thout the only broken thing from my old 3d printer's hot end is the sensor cable. Actually, I thot wrong 😅 problem solved after I replace the heater.
Now I only need to print the parts. Thanks for the video and your response. Keep up the good work, it really helps for ppl like me 😁
