    Fusible batting so much easier. No shrinking and easy sewing without walking foot..🇨🇦

    This is one of the nicest tutorial videos I’ve seen on placemats. I truly enjoyed this. Nicely done young lady.

    Clearly explained tutorial without the distracting background music. I understand better when learning without unnecessary distractions. A personal note only for those who choose to pre treat the fabric prior to assembly. If you pre-wash your fabrics and line dry as I do to avoid shrinkage and color bleeding, spray wash the line dried fabric completely and air dry it again prior to cutting and assembly. This will avoid the frustration I feel of sewing in wrinkles you may miss as I have done in past projects. Thank you for such a concise video that I look forward to trying. Great gift ideas too!

      I forgot to mention ironing the completely dried, spray starched material. It offers just enough stiffness while sewing and washes out once the placemat is laundered later on. 👏

      @poppies1215, May I ask, what does the "spray starched" consist of? Water and starch? Thanks a lot.

    • @poppies1215
      @poppies1215 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annitagalvan9049 I use Magic Sizing that comes in a spray can. In the paint dept of any hardware store you can get a spray paint nozzle so distribution of the starch goes on evenly and your hands don’t get so tired of dispensing when you squeeze. I have also successfully used Best Press. Off hand I do not recall the ingredients. I do not make my own as ai had done years ago when ironing. Google the products and they will list ingredients. Unfortunately I am not too savvy at linking products. Hope this helps

    Very cute fabric. I like your format in making your tutorial. Simple and straightforward is the way to go with no distracting peppy music in the background.😄 With your calm, clear instructions, I believe I could do this to co-ordinate with some towels and dishcloths that I will work on in a couple weeks. So this is right timing for me. Thanks! Blessings to y'all.

    I’m going to make these while waiting for my next class. I’m just curious how “stitch in the ditch” catches the binding on the front of the placemat. I usually sew on the binding itself.

    • @modernmoonquiltstudio
      @modernmoonquiltstudio  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! I sew the binding to the front first and then fold the binding over far enough so that when I stitch in the ditch (from the front) it catches the binding in the back.

    Am i able to print my own design on a cotton material for instance using cricut and create a placemat from that?

  • @annitagalvan9049

    Hi, first time at your channel and a new subscriber. I'm very new to using a sewing machine, but have some knowledge of sewing, as I've always been a hand sewing person, fixing my clothes or doing some crafts.
    You explain very clearly and , thanks God, no distracting music at the background. It makes things easier to follow the tutorial.
    I have some queries.
    You mentioned that you haven't used a walking foot and that a standard presser foot can work as well. My question is, what size needle should I use for placemats consisting of 2 cotton fabric and batting?
    And another question, Is it Ok to use fusible fleece as a batting and thus avoid the spray?
    Thanks a lot for your time and help.
    Happy Holidays! Greetings from Cyprus 😊🎄☃️🎁

    • @modernmoonquiltstudio
      @modernmoonquiltstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome! Great questions! A universal sewing needle (like a Schmetz 80 or 90) is just find for this project. And YES! Fusible fleece is totally doable. I have used that method before.
