So easy to understand and not overwhelming, thank you. I'm a 63 year old guy who just took up sewing after being gifted my 96 year old Aunt's sewing machine and I'm obsessed. I will make these soon and bless you as I do.👍🏻❤️

I want to thank you for your very helpful video about how to make placemats and napkins. I recently bought myself a new sewing machine and wanted to get back into sewing with a simple project. You are an excellent instructor with your easy to follow instructions for the project. I wish I could visit Jordan Fabrics, but I am across the country in Massachusetts. Thank you for helping me to become interested in sewing again! I am planning on giving my family placemats and napkins for Christmas. This has also been great therapy to be able to distract my mind during these very upsetting times in our world! Thank you again for your great video!!

Great video!! I love when you place the camera close enough for a "beginner", like myself to see and understand the measurements on the machine, and rolled edges on the napkins. I am going to call my friends to see what mixed colors they adore, but not tell them it's for their gifts. It will be a surprise. Then I'm going to buy the fabric, and get started on the placemat and napkin sets for them this year. Thank you for sharing this video!

Great tutorial and an awesome explanation of napkins.!
What if you take the ruler under the fabric and fold it back on itself to expose the batting? Before you cut off placemats if you expose the batting and cut it very close to the stitch line you don't have as much fussing to get it squared. Just a thought and thinking out loud. Thank you Donna for all you do

Thank you for showing the finger press technique for making the seamed edges crisp. You are an excellent teacher! Being in the mood to sew placemats and napkins and not having any batting on hand tonight, I lined the placemats with heavy white denim leftover from another project. It worked well.

I made a dozen placemats and napkins for my family to use for Christmas dinner. It made such a pretty table - and my grandkids loved helping to set the table and decorate it. I’m in the process of making two more sets of six each. So easy and fun!! Thanks for the great tutorial!

  • @suebean3873

Such good tips. I never thought of putting the openings on the side that doesn’t stretch or has no give. Also, marking your machine with a sharpie and then covering it with clear tape. I’ve done it in the past but with a piece of tape but never covered it and so they curl after a few hours. You’re so easy to listen to and I find that everything you mention or say is an important tip, you’re not just rambling on about nothing. Thank you so much. I’ve been sewing for a long time and happy and proud to say that I am still learning from you and people like professionals like you! Many thanks! (Sue B, from Oshawa Ontario Canada)

    Ma'am,
I know this video is a number of years old, however, it is new to me and I must say I have never been so appreciative of a DIY TH-cam video.
I have watched several dozen DIY placemat videos and they were unnecessarily complex, that left me exhausted and defeated before even trying!!!

I look forward to viewing more of your videos.

Absolutely lovely. Am motivated, realizing how far one yard of fabric stretches. Thank you ❤

The quilting in the blue and cream placemats is so gorgeous! The quilting fits the fabric so perfectly! I wish you sold the sandwich (by the yard) already quilted. There's so much people could do with it. Besides the placemats, it would make a lovely winter tote bag or even a gorgeous Christmas tree skirt. Lots of ideas. ... Just cut it out, add a binding and enjoy! Love each and every video! xoxo from Arizona.

That trick of folding it up and finger pressing the edge is genius! That drives me nuts. Can't wait to try it.

      I agree.
Ir didn't work for me the 1st time & I realized I was pulling it tbroygh between the battibg & backing fabric instead of the 2 fabric layers. Makes a big difference.
      Love it!

Gosh! I’ve just come across this after fiddling around (unsuccessfully) with mitred corners. This is a dream. Just made 4 napkins in 15 minutes. Love it ❤️💛💖 thank you!

I just love watching you work. You are such a clear teacher. I’m preparing a Christmas market for our church here in Spain, these placemats are definitely on the production list. Thank you.
