      @@angelocurcio9415 probably does it depending on how much the file can remove for better control. If you notice, it is only the small files that he goes both directions with.

      @@angelocurcio9415 Generally, files cut in one direction so applying pressure on the return stroke just blunts them. Regards.

      Even just recentering the piece in the 3 jaw chuck after turning it round to get a concentric cut is a bastard. His work looks flawless every time.

      As watching some of the stuff he does, yes he has some good machining skills, but I wouldn't call him a machinist. I don't say that as a bad thing. He is far more like a fabricator. I do like something that I bet most people over look. As a machinist, nothing is worst that trying to machine a weld that someone took an angle grinder to. I think it goes to show that he knew better. He didn't take an angle grinder to it. He straight took it to the lathe. Hybrid machinist and fabricator.

      Meh nothing special, grew up around machine shops. Tons of people can do the level of work he does. It’s nothing significantly special. Not that it’s talentless, but nothing ground breaking either.

      An arbor press is lost in time? They aren't hard to find new or old. I think we have at least 3 of then at work.

    He’s SWISS!!! EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE NOW! I knew he was European, almost completely fluent but not native English, and it was driving me crazy trying to deduce his country. I thought maybe Germany because there have been some German tools restored on here but Switzerland makes so much more sense! No wonder he’s so admirably meticulous! Thank you for this channel, I enjoy every upload!

      You could have deduced it from the model of his electric outlet. They're only used in Swirzerland. The model with the ground pin aligned in the center. I live in Brazil and we have the same, but the ground pin is offset.

    I love that not only do you do aesthetically beautiful restore work, you also restore the purpose, rescuing from the scrap heap and putting it back into use to help restore future projects.

    I've binged almost every episode in the last 3 days & I can honestly say my favorite is when "I make new one" and when he smoothes the rough edges. I feel honored to watch a master at his craft. Thank you sir for the videos. You are the man!
    I was watching some of the other restoration channels until I found this one. This is by far the best one out there.

      Me too, I was watching one last night and it said on the screen something about a piece being ruined and I said out loud to myself, "he makes a new one??" and on the screen it of course popped up "I make a new one" and I cheered more passionately for that than I have for anything in a WHILE

      I know that there can be questions about over-restoring items, but something going into use, rather than into a museum, makes all that irrelevant. I would have hesitated about taking the markings off the bolt head, that does lose something, but the bolt could easily have been a replacement. It doesn't matter.
      I did wonder about the new table. What source did you have for the sizing?

    Love the color, great to see the new painting setup is working out for you. Good to see the Beverly Shear again; and I like the (maybe?) tease of some components to the next video at the end?

      Yeah the beverly shear always shows up with the etching. Actually no, i had a hard time at the end to find something to demonstrate the press. I ended up with this old bearing and made this shaft real quick.

      I agree! He was using some pretty small files to smooth out those gears - it’s what makes him great IMHO.
