Worth repeating,, forgive my rant.........this individual's instruction n my opinion one of the best or the best instruction on TH-cam. At 64 and playing for over three decades have only achieved par twice out of literally, thousands of rounds. Have paid tens of thousands of dollars on instruction. Often feeling good one day then frustrated and feeling like my body is in a knot, only to be told, stick with it, knowing in my gut not a good position. This man has literally brought me a repeatable, grounded, easy, natural swing to my game. Incredible to me his instruction......grateful and a blessing, thank you sir for the true joy I finally discovered in the game.
I've watched a bunch of golf lessons online - this guy is the most direct and helpful teacher there is. He doesn't waste your time with chit chat - just incredible lessons. This is my favorite one.
You got that damn right, bro! I found that others talk too much and not really showing me what I needed to see/know. I got bored and confused....so I don't even waste my time watching the rest of their gibberish.
I just wanted to comment and say that I am 52 years old and started golfing for probably the 3rd time in my lifetime about a year ago. I struggled with the driver and always have. I did not understand the inside out swing and shallowing the club and no description ever from anyone addressed my misunderstanding. After watching this description, I was shocked. If I had someone explain this to me 35 years ago I would have loved golf. Instead I was mostly frustrated, especially with the driver, because I could overcome my poor swing with my irons, but never the driver. I went out to the driving range the evening after watching this, used this shallow swing and instantly hit everything straight more consistently. The best part of this was his description of the club head path. Thank you so much!
Greetings from Australia, you sir are a hero, you are the best teacher of golf on this planet, you look like you could play any sport well but you are also a born teacher IMO, the way you are so clear and efficient at developing your point, you know when to show a closer view or different angle and you don’t ramble on and on to make one simple point like some of the UK teachers on TH-cam do. I appreciate your work on making these video lessons greatly so thank you and please keep them coming.
Jon, absolutely the best advice I ever had as I get back on the course after 20 years. I've been watching every stinkin video and been hitting balls and have not played yet. I want to go out and play my best and this lesson of the shoulders to keep me inside, was the best. Thanks Man !!!!!
I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and am now addicted to it. This video is typical in that it presents the content in a simple and easily understood manner. This video addresses one of my biggest issues. Thank you.
Can’t say enough about your lessons. They just make sense, because you take the time to show the difference between amateur- and pro-level movements. I see what I’m typically doing, and then see how to make the adjustments. Thank you!
You did it again Jonathan, specifically the alignment stick aspect exaggerating the angle needed to get in the correct position in the hand path portion. That instantly helped with my swing path.
This is the move! Not much else I can add to this incredible lesson! Have been working on this move and now that I see the side bend it all makes sense. I’ve got it! You are going to be rich some day giving lessons to big time players!!
i went out today to practice these movements and noticed the difference right away. The right side bend is still a challenge because I have a bit of trouble getting my weight to shift forward- need to use the wall to perfect this feeling. Your explanations are always super clear and practical. Love the "awareness" approach.
what helps me is focusing on weight shift and side bend at the same time. I also try to hold my hands up to shoulder height as long as possible. this does a couple things in my experience. it gives your body more time to transfer weight/ rotate. but it also creates much more lag/leverage and a more powerful swing. now I'm not a long hitter or anything but i went from swinging my seven iron around 80 mph to 88-91 mph. and my driver used to be right around 95 mph... I'm currently swinging my 3 wood about 101 and my driver is going around 105ish give or take. sometimes i get to around 108. the sidebend is still not 100 percent natural for me, i think as my body learns the movement and my mind doest have to focus on it so much I can get to 110mph swing speed. one last thing: Imo not actively trying to swing faster, actually my swing feels more relaxed but creating the lag just really sends the ball. MY over the top move "felt" faster. it was definitely more effort and less efficient. because I'm swinging smoother Ive also improved my consistency. I struggle with my driver because i have a hard time hitting up on the ball but even then, my average drive went from 230 to 265.
Possibly the best golf instruction video I've found yet. I was having trouble with all of these concepts but this explains everything perfectly. Thanks!
All teaching content. No BS talk. The best explanation of shallowing the club I have seen on the internet. Keep making these videos young man. Impressive.
I no longer have a slicing problem because of your videos. Thank you very much JKM, I greatly appreciate you. The flexing of the wrist to create power and a square club face has completely changed my game
Jonathan, I have been experimenting with so many things on youtube. Your explanations are AMAZING. The side bend is what I am lacking. When you demonstrated what it looks like to not have side bend, I immediately saw my swing. I recently have been taking a mental break from golf because of the frustrations from my swing. I am now so excited to get back out there. THANK YOU.
Thanks jkm for your patience and versatility clear instructional video on how to shallow the club in the swing.easiest and direct to the point to ececute.well articulated.i love your videos.from a 79 yr old fan.
This is the first video I have seen from yourself. I've spent the best part of 30 years trying to rotate my hips. I've just been to the range and used your side tilt technique and found that my hips rotated naturally. Not loads, but definitely more than normal. I will now go over your previous videos. Your explanations are great and very easy to follow. I wish you all the success in the world. Thank you from a new fan.
this sideband thing is the key, and i have been trying to tell all my friends about it. I have been playing for only three years, but "discovered" the side bend on my own. I instantly gained about 10 mph on driver.. before i was trying to rotate my hips, and it would just create a more exaggerated over the top move. now my focus is more weight shift vs rotation.. so weight shift in combination with side bend and holding arms at shoulder height as long as possible. its crayzy because when i record my self my hips looked more active then i feel they are. feel is not real.
I have watched multiple videos for shallowing the club from other people and I just couldn't get it right, until I watched this video. The trail side tilt was the missing piece that I needed and it's a step that I can practice easily, until I have it down perfectly. Thank you.
Great video. I personally view the purpose of shallowing to send the kinetic vector toward the outside of the circle which the club head makes. At the initiation of the swing, many amateur golfers try to direct the head of club towards either the ball or the target. But, In order to make a circular motion (in order to create a good rotational force) the initial direction of the club is actually the opposite from the target. Most pros do this correctly without realizing what shallowing really does kinetically. Meaning they know shallowing works and it is needed, but many has a wrong idea or a partial idea why it works.
I hve to say this will help me VERY much!! I have watch other videos but other videos are like 12-15 min long and 7-8 min dosnt happening anything but ”remember leave a like or subcribe! ”
Jonathan you sir are by far one of the top 5 teachers online and under-rated. Your attention to the fine details are second to none. All of the details you teach are paramount to the golf swing. Well explained video
Great info. I wanted to add that, keeping my wrists somewhat relaxed on the downswing....has added a lot of yards to my iron hits, as the looser wrists definitely help whip the club through impact....and the hits feel really solid. As a result, I definitely have to re-think the yardage for all my irons and wedges....lol.
Very well explained,so glad i clicked this one, have been trying to get this move right for weeks . bitter detail than others i have seen, i will be more confident in the movement now. Thank you .
I’ve probably watched every video on shallowing the club and not one explained it this clearly! A lightbulb moment 💡for me when you mentioned the side-bend.
This is an excellent lesson on shallowing the club. I instantly saw two of my swing faults - back swing too much outside and limited side bend during the downswing. The flexed wrist at impact will be tougher to incorporate but it is doable (just fighting 40+ years of bad muscle memory.) Thanks, Jonathan!
Excellent. Most shallowing videos cryptically show only one of these 3 aspects. You clearly understand thoroughly what you teach - and explain it very clearly. Subscribed and liked. thanks. Great videi.
That trail side tilt might be the best swing advice I've gotten. I've always been a bit handsy and now that I've focused more on rotating and shallowing my swing, I'm hitting my irons better than I ever have. Well done man
Holy crap Jonathan! I watched this video today and just focused on hand path and did the drill with the alignment stick because i didn't want too have to many swing thoughts and it worked so well!. Thank you so much. I had my best round of my life today and shot 86! Ill be trying the next couple things at the range for sure! You da man!
You're the only instructor who talks about shallowing by tilting! I had so many issues from trying to shallow by dropping my elbow and flattening my shaft! I kept pronating my lead forearm and I'd hit push shots! This is super helpful
There is a forth way! As a right handed player at 74 I finally discovered for myself that the absolutely best way to shallow the club is simply to quickly turn the knuckle of both hands clockwise immediately between the transitional downswing move known as P4/P5. Believe me it works regardless of most any golfer’s backswing. Steve Elkington coined this move ‘The Twirl’ but he never told anyone watching him on You Tube how to do it. So I thought I would tell people how simple and easy it really is. Cheers
First time come across Jonathan video. Well explained common faults. Watched hundreds of video about shallowing clubs but no one mentioned side bends. Other youtubers will provide a ten series of videos to explain club shallowing to gain views, but not you. Excellent video, subscribed!
Jonathan had to leave a comment on your video since this was the best advice I’ve ever gotten. I immediately turned around my iron swing with these tips. Especially tip number two it clicked after about ten reps. I am new to golf and had a baseball style over the top swing and was firing my hips. Your demonstration was the only video I could find that showed me what I was doing wrong. Keep up the good work really appreciate it!!
