“If you can’t learn how to control where you strike the ground, it’s very hard and discouraging to play this game” This is the best quote about golf I’ve ever heard
Great info! Going to work on this! In the past when I shifted my weight forward, I would lose my balance. I’m thinking my upper body and head is following my hips. Going to try to focus on keeping head back and shoulders up. Thanks!
Hi Jonathon, I would like to thank you so much as you are a definitely one of the best golf instructors I have ever watched. This is what your video did for me....I watched this video on September 16 and went to the golf range September 17, 2021. I am 57 years old and have been golfing for 12 years. My gap wedge(this is my goto club) was 108 yards carry before I started and my friends have told me I have a violent swing. I now have a shortened back swing as I can now transfer my weight properly as a result of your video. My carry yardage at this age increased to 129 yard carry and half the effort. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Jonathan, your instruction is consistently excellent and clear. The 'lightbulb' for me has been keeping my head behind my hips through impact. I'm 78 and was struggling to get below 20 hcp because of hitting too many fat and thin shots ... until I began keeping my head back, as per your advice.
The hips forward is the best tip I have every received,. I am a 6 HCP and been struggling with finding the middle of the club. I tried this and all of a sudden I am finding the middle a lot., thanks. and Love the videos
Wish I had you as my trainer, you are realeasing videos that describe all of my swing issues to a T.... Great explanations with real understandable corrections to eliminate "Said" problems..
Great video. Realize that this is a problem for me but with your video help I can try to get my old hips start moving forward. You are by far the best online instructor out there!
Thanks Jonathan, a very nicely explained tutorial. Which only goes to show what I have always suspected, most faults in a golf swing stem from the address position.
This lesson resonated with me. I miss the low point more times than not. Today after watching this and swallowing the club video, I went to the range and made a conscious effort to keep weight more on my left side at setup and stay centered through the swing. The weight shift left and swallowing the club came automatically. The result was crisp ball first contact, square, shallow divots and more distance. I hit about 80 balls and miss-hit maybe 8 or 10, usually that ratio is reversed. I can't wait to try more clubs tomorrow! Love your easy to understand lessons.
I’ve only started and just been at the driving range. I can hit my driver at 125 yards and much straighter than my friend who’s been golfing for years. Your tips work great, thank you!
I learned so much in just the last two weeks of stumbling onto your channel. My release was my main problem in my inconsistency. Watching your instructional videos have helped me find ways to practice at home (fist and thumb rotation), and now this one that I can take to the range. Thank you very much for making your videos easy to understand and apply.
I'm planning to watch every clip, from the most basic onward, as I haven't found better explanations in any of the multitude of other TH-cam coaches. Every time I integrate some very basic principle you've touched on, my contact and swing improves. One can't argue with the results. E.g. A more consistent 1.4 smash factor with irons, when applying tips for basic swing mechanics. Lastly, I'm actually able to digest and synthesise ideas, which is refreshing, compared to other online coaching videos. In short, keep posting, I can see why you have such a high 'like' percentage on all your videos! I might consider a lesson down the track. Re. J.Hernandez comment, I have a somewhat similar thought, about the difference in swing and plane (and other nuanced mechanics) between long irons and short irons and how to correctly change the swing to accommodate such differences in length between clubs. I seem to hit one or the other well, but can struggle at times hitting both consistantly in the same session/round.
I need to practice this away completely away from striking balls until I get that feel and posture. I am SO far from that right now. Both my age and my horrible bad habits mean I have lots of work to do right here at home. Thank you for making this easy to understand.
So glad I found your page. I like your clear, concise style of explaining how & why things happen on each part of golf swing, the body mechanics that go with it! Excellent, JK! TYVM.
I've been struggling for months to gain some consistency with my irons, but with plenty of frustrating topped shots and fat shots. Then I watched this video last night and took the advice to the driving range today. I had my best day with my irons ever! We'll see how it goes when I go out to play tomorrow, but so far ... thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Really good video as weight transfer has been a big struggle for me. I've always tried to load up against my trail leg but struggle to transfer and hit a lot of fat shots. This is a new approach that seems to make sense for getting my hips forward and hitting the ball before the ground. Looking forward to practicing these tips.
Thank you. As a former Baseball player, I naturally kept the majority of my weight on my back foot, causing sway to get through my swing and back to my front foot. The change was almost instant in terms of strike consistency and follow through.
Wait...during my golf lesson, my pro said to 'rotate around your front hip, don't sway left or right. Your tip shows your hips sliding to the left as you swing through...I went out and practiced sliding my hips to the left - feels more natural and powerful. Thanks for the tip...
This helped me so much! The set up alone with weight forward. Still working on follow through. One shot just a little heavy last round. 12 real fat the previous round. Hit my 85 yard gap 100 up hill. You rock.
Stumbled on you. I am A low handicap with access to good instruction from friends in the golf industry. Brotha your instruction is absolutely legit. Simple, easy to chew on and very easy to implement! I saw your video on shallowing the club and it was outstanding. I have a k vest certification through baseball and side bend is so important to maintaining a proper in to out path both in the golf and baseball swing! Very good stuff! My new favorite
Please more videos like this. More ways to practice. I have been playing for over a year now I was at 110 I started doing the stack and tilt brought me to 95 100. But the only thing I never understood to now was this the lag movement . I just started practicing this and a lot harder then I thought to stay consistent. Easy when no.ball present lol until you at the course or even range. Need more of these type of videos. Thabk you great content 👏🏼 🤙🏼
Excellent. I've been playing golf for over 60 years and have been really struggling with my game recently. I've been trying to stay behind the ball with lag but without much success. Your instruction to have more lateral movement has really helped. Thanks.
Absolutely, outstanding video. All of your videos are great, but for me personally, this (along with several others) really resonates. Thank you for all you do for the community.
Great tips! I have always struggled with getting my weight forward and not getting a consistent low point. Can't wait to give these tips a try tonight! Thanks Jonathan!
lucky you i watch his videos and practice my swing at home but when i go to the golf course or range i forget what he said. old dog and new tricks comes to mind lol
Jonathan confused over drill in bending trail arm video with alignment stick that teaches you to keep lead arm pressed against stick. But in the Power move video #2 you say to have lead arm drop away from that angle in downswing. Once do that aren’t you then extending the trail arm prematurely ? BTW think you are by far best instructor on the net.
Jonathan, Do you give online lessons? You seem to address absolutely every piece of the swing where I need a little help. You are super clear and I really like that you emphasize the right thing to do rather than the bad. Love your content and focus.
Hello Jonathan, new subscriber here and letting all my nephews and nieces know to subscribe as well. Just started watching a few of your tutorials/lessons and like others here have stated " you are spot on with your style and clarification. Thank you for what you do 🙏 nuf said for now I'm headed over to watch more of your lessons 💪🤙
I've been practicing on pressure shift in the downswing but I would say the most difficult thing for me is keeping my head behind the ball and impact and not letting it get out of head with my upper and lower body because that's when I tend to hit the ball thin
Had to pause video right away,, wow ,wow what a Beautiful swing ,, no shit ,, thats the swing I think everyone well at least myself strives for!! outstanding form !! Thank you
So true that beginners and even “intermediate” players DON’T rotate but heave their hips laterally. No power and even worse for consistency with the low point as you say. 8:50 Conversely, the problem with amateurs is the right hip jumps or moves too soon, so you aren’t staying behind the ball. I found it more helpful to think of the right side staying quiet while the left hip (really the left knee) moves left or behind you rotationally to start the downswing.
Note the better players also have more shaft lean at impact (chicken and egg). You're absolutely right JKM but it's important to continue rotating onto the lead leg and not slide into the shot because sliding inhibits hip turn.
My issue on my worst strikes is more often than not by keeping my weight forward, but then rotating too much in the chest and shoulders. Chest opening up causes my shoulders to bring the club over the top and fat the ball. When I do keep hips forward and move them more straight forward in the downswing, I usually get good results.
I would recommend every mid or high handicap golfer to watch this video... and then watch it again! No, seriously. My iron shots have improved through consistency of strike... it really seems easier to hit the same point each swing without your body and head moving around the place. It works chipping around the green too! Instruction is clear and gives reason why.
So funny - I put masking tape on my mat, about 5" behind the ball (did not use a stick like you did) , every swing I creamed the tape - it was a great strike for me - but I could not hit the ball without hitting the tape. Seems I have some work to do!! I'll keep working on this.
You should move to north Texas and opening golf school here. Good instructors are booked daily. A lot of instructors moved here from Aus, Scotland, Europe.
In his explanation he mentions how when players first try this they tend to move backwards With no reasoning for it The reason is to make room for the straight left arm they feel won’t clear enough to make contact with the ball The true leverage in stack and tilt is that extension he speaks of as the hips turn This is what will give the player the sensation that there is plenty of room to bring the club through as the left arm is pinned against the pec and the body is extending releasing the lever created in the backswing It actually feels good on the right sacro iliac to extend in this manner but be careful to not simply stand up and give up your tilt Jon is obviously very flexible to hold his tilt so long in the through swing I started applying what he teaches after he spoke of the bad back issues that come from staying too flat Trusting this will take time and effort but I believe in the results this far Best to you guys Bank
Again, and as always very good explanation! Thank you Jon. Btw, I have been having this ‘over-the-top’ for my swing whenever I hit a solid ball, but my pre-shot routine has no such problems. May I know any tips or drills to get rid of it!?
Where have you been! Read a few of the first comments and cannot agree more. Amazing instructional videos and nice that I’m not watching another video with an English accent 😜. Keep it up!
This man is an excellent teacher. Best golf swing instructor I’ve seen.
You are a great teacher! Everything seems so clear when you explain it. Thank you for all the videos!
He is a solid teacher
Just listening the crispy clear ball striking sound.Unbelievable! Love it.

Glad I found your tutorials. Have been watching many of them daily. Clear, concise and well articulated.
Done my best score ever doing this drill, amazing thank you
Great lesson. I'm struggling to keep my head behind the ball while moving my hips forward.
Great video. Realize that this is a problem for me but with your video help I can try to get my old hips start moving forward. You are by far the best online instructor out there!
Great lesson Jonathan! Have you got similar video lesson for driver? Thank you so much!
Wow, you explain the weight shift and lag so well. You are by far the best teacher.
Great stuff man!!!
Some of the best instruction I’ve received on or offline. Great explanations of the “feels” of the golf swing.
Absolutely brilliant ….you seem to have everything figured out and present it so clearly 👌👏👏
Thanks Jonathan, a very nicely explained tutorial. Which only goes to show what I have always suspected, most faults in a golf swing stem from the address position.
Totally Agree. I struggled mightily until I learned this basic fact.

Such good practical and relatable stuff. Thanks very much Jonathan.

Ditto. Your knowledge of the key body movements and mechanics at the right time is perfect, at least for my game. Thanks.
exactly what i do and why i am so inconsistent. best description of the problem and explanation for how to fix you swing! i am now subscribed!

Best golf instruction video on youtube
Just found your channel ( after years of watching golf videos ). You are a great teacher Jonathan .Learning alot in a way that resonates with me .

Another great drill to work on. I know this is another issue for me so lots to work on.
I have so enjoyed this video it is clear the way you explain what needs to happen. Thank you for the help
Great tips! I have always struggled with getting my weight forward and not getting a consistent low point. Can't wait to give these tips a try tonight! Thanks Jonathan!
Best no nonsense golf instruction on TH-cam, love the detail on feels.
You are GREAT!! I’ve watched many golf swing videos - this is by far the best I’ve seen. This is a perfect video for me. Then you.
Very good videos. You are a good teacher. Will definitely recommend to my friends to watch.
Thanks you Jonathan. Clear like a water.
thank you hitting much cleaner and when I do not I pretty much know what I did wrong thanks again
Wow! I was doing so many things wrong. This fixed a lot of them. Immediate results at the range last night. Thanks!
lucky you i watch his videos and practice my swing at home but when i go to the golf course or range i forget what he said. old dog and new tricks comes to mind lol
Best instructor on TH-cam!
This is what I am working on right now. Thanks for this lesson. It is a big help to me!
Hi I find your videos very useful especially this one.I struggle with reverse pivot and sway and you have really helped me .Thank you so much!
Great to hear!
You describe things very well and make things easy to understand. 👍
Awesome instruction as always - the noodle drill - superb -
Great lesson... Excellent clear and simple to understand points!!

Excellent videos. My iron play needs work- tend to chicken wing, fall a bit back off the ball. I am a 8 handicap but should be better.
I've been practicing on pressure shift in the downswing but I would say the most difficult thing for me is keeping my head behind the ball and impact and not letting it get out of head with my upper and lower body because that's when I tend to hit the ball thin

Great video Jon. Keeping all my weight on my trail leg is killing my game. However, one hell of a hard habit to break.

Right hip moves too quick was my problem & not staying behind the Ball 👍
I love the way way you break it down . Though I have corrected a bit this will most likely do better🙂👍
Great video. Your swing is so smooth.
Note the better players also have more shaft lean at impact (chicken and egg). You're absolutely right JKM but it's important to continue rotating onto the lead leg and not slide into the shot because sliding inhibits hip turn.
Fantastic coach very well delivered thank you .
my iron striking has improved so much after following your advice, thanks mate!
My issue on my worst strikes is more often than not by keeping my weight forward, but then rotating too much in the chest and shoulders. Chest opening up causes my shoulders to bring the club over the top and fat the ball.

In his explanation he mentions how when players first try this they tend to move backwards
With no reasoning for it
The reason is to make room for the straight left arm they feel won’t clear enough to make contact with the ball
The true leverage in stack and tilt is that extension he speaks of as the hips turn
This is what will give the player the sensation that there is plenty of room to bring the club through as the left arm is pinned against the pec and the body is extending releasing the lever created in the backswing
It actually feels good on the right sacro iliac to extend in this manner but be careful to not simply stand up and give up your tilt
Jon is obviously very flexible to hold his tilt so long in the through swing
I started applying what he teaches after he spoke of the bad back issues that come from staying too flat
Trusting this will take time and effort but I believe in the results this far
Best to you guys
Bank
Keep it as it is simple your bang on excellent john
Good Lord the sound of that strike is incredible
Again, and as always very good explanation! Thank you Jon.
Btw, I have been having this ‘over-the-top’ for my swing whenever I hit a solid ball, but my pre-shot routine has no such problems. May I know any tips or drills to get rid of it!?
Great video, explained well. This might help me. Thank you.
Great content and solid instruction. Well done and thanks.
Brilliantly simple instruction.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. I appreciate it.
I'm reminded of the benefits Stack and Tilt
It is stack and tilt, which is a good thing :)
Where have you been! Read a few of the first comments and cannot agree more. Amazing instructional videos and nice that I’m not watching another video with an English accent 😜. Keep it up!
Nice lesson, very easy to grasp, maybe harder to do, let you know, thanks for the tip 👍🇬🇧
You are great!! This is the perfect video for me. Thank you so much.
Great lesson, Jonathan! Love the sound of your strikes!
Can you talk more about at what point in the back swing do you initiate weight shifting forward? 🙏
Awesome video!!! Ths is one of the best videos on the swing I’ve seen in a long time!!!
Excellent, clear, concise.
Great video. Said a lot in a few minutes. No wasted time. Subbed.
This is the hardest thing for me to do consistently!
