How To "Hit Up" with Driver

- In this video I will be explaining the concepts behind hitting upwards on the ball with driver. Most people have the wrong idea when it comes to this concept so I will explain the movements that are involved.

Great explanation, Jonathan. Your analysis about the shoulder was especially helpful. I have always struggled with hitting down on the ball with the driver, meaning that my driving is very inconsistent and contact is often horrible. I look forward to trying out tips and ideas. Your analysis is very biomechanically thorough - the best I have seen.
I tried the drill with the head cover about a month ago from another video and wasn't successful. Today I tried with your explanation and hit up on the ball 10 out of 10 times. I think this explanation for driver swing is one of the best.
This is the best explanation. Everything is just how I just wanted it to be explained. Cause and Effect type of coaching.

Best description I've ever seen to hit up. Right now 9 degree drivers are going farther than 10.5 and I have an 88 mph swing. Makes no sense. Along with my high spin rates. Hopefully this helps me.

The short takeaway swing with back elbow tucked is my my swing exactly when I first started playing golf I could drive the ball well and was very good with my irons shirt game was horrible now it’s reversed short game good the rest of the game horrible I know this video is going to fix my issues thank you your very good at explaining your point in what your trying to teach

Watching you breakdown my swing faults with the driver is really interesting. My weight shift is pretty nice with my irons, I’ve always had an issue with spinning out with the driver, especially when I started getting more active with my hips, currently trying to keep my back to the target a little longer. I really need to send you a swing video so I can get some feedback. Spin is a killer at times

Definitely the missing piece with my swing, thank you. Getting much better contact buy finding it more difficult to release.. wrists feels locked out after impact.

The driver is one of the golf clubs that look easy but in reality the swing is critical. Jonathan explains everything with sense. My only concern is that I don’t have the flexibility of a young teenager and the swing should be in away to protect my back. If I do the swing in that way I feel more stress in the back. Jonathan I would like to watch a video addressing my concerns that is one very common for the 60 or older golfers.
I’m struggling with this right now. I think you may have helped me identify some flaws.

For me I swing it usually 0-2 degrees up with the driver. Everyone should strive for around that as well.
having played for 3 years now i have confidence in irons but driver is hit and miss im hoping to try this to reduce my spin

Not enough trail wrist extension
Hi JKM, I drove 50 balls on a Sim and I was 4d up on attack and 1.0d out to in path but I was missing both left and right all the time, how can I sort the face angles?

So as i don't pull my arms in should I address the ball from the toe
With the head stay behind, I tend to hit the ground behind the ball 🤔 😅

I recently read somewhere that tour pros, on average, hit down 1.2° with driver. Evidently, Ping has some research on this and the best drivers in the world do not actually hit up with the driver.
