Pros vs Ams - Shallowing Like You've NEVER Seen Before 👀

  • In today's video, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb of Athletic Motion Golf unveil the truth about shallowing the club as you've NEVER seen before.
In one of the deepest looks at shallowing in golf and external rotation you've ever seen, you'll be delivered undeniable data about shallowing that will likely change how you view the golf swing.
After much research, analysis, and experience the Athletic Motion Golf team shares their findings on shallowing and external rotation starting by looking at the shaft angle relative to the ground across swings from tour pros who've combined for over 400 wins including 28 wins in 2022 alone.
By looking at the golf swings of tour pros versus those of amateur players, it allows us to see shallowing of the golf club in an entirely new light.
We'll look at everything from the arms, shoulders, external rotation, lower body, and every aspect of the downswing and decipher shallowing and external rotation (or lack thereof)
    in the golf swing.
You'll also be given a quiz that will prove that most amateur golfers are capable of shallowing like a tour-level pro, and we'll of course show you how you to can shallow your golf club like a pro!

Excellent information. I just this last 6 month figured out the correct golf swing with some lessons and then watching you guys that put it all together. What a difference in ball flight, distance and accuracy it has made. Wish I had known this 40 years ago. To stop coming ott totally changed my whole game. Even the club pro gave me a compliment on the driving range a couple days ago. Looking forward to spring.

How this isn’t the most subscribed to golf instruction channel on TH-cam I’ll never know. This is absolutely ground breaking! Watching all of the videos on this channel has made me realize that one of the things that make pros so good isn’t that they have this ability to understand and execute the “complexity” of a golf swing, it’s actually their ability to simplify it. Watching this channel has opened my eyes to the fact that we have made the golf swing so much more complicated than it should be. You wouldn’t believe the crap I’ve tried to shallow my swing. Then here comes the AMG guys, “hey, just lower your arm in the downswing the same same way you raise it in the backswing” 🤯.
In all seriousness, thank you so much for cutting through the noise and boiling this misunderstood move down and making it so easy to understand. The demonstration towards the end of how the right vs wrong arm movement looks in the standing position was absolute genius. Thank you so much for this video. This may do even more for me than the Shoulder Rotation and Arm Depth video and that’s saying something!

Funny story to your point… we had a gentleman about 3 years ago tell us he was a 3 handicap and would no longer watch videos because our “ideas” on the swing were too simple and not geared towards better players. That’s a living breathing example of what you just described. The reality is the better you get, the simpler things should be. NOT the other way around. Great post, BTW🙌

Hi Mike, thanks for the superb video. I’m currently working with a leading teaching pro in the UK (works with a couple of tour players) and he agrees this is the best video he’s ever seen with regards the lowering of the shallow.
Question: The only think confusing us both a little is the 20° supination. Do you think this is an automatic/subconscious action created by the weight of the club head in the transition? It feels like too much of an club face opener when actively trying to achieve. ie almost the opposite of closing the club face from the top. Cheers and keep up the superb work.

Wow. To separate the movements in the swing, then isolate them like you are doing, is revolutionary. You are true pioneers. Plus, it's not just informative, but also very usable to practice the "feels." The golf swing has perplexed us because it involves 3D movement over time, while we had been stuck in 2d static images. When you go to rotate, use the alignment stick to track the movement of the sweet spot on the face. It should track exactly back down the route in went up in the backswing. It really helps. As long as the backswing is correct of course haha

Great vid and I really appreciate your commentary on the subjectivity (and likely inaccuracy) of simple video analysis. Your vids, layer modeling and observational insights helped me better understand the golf swing as an incredibly dynamic process incorporating physics of both a trebuchet (multiple levers) and a centrifuge (centrifugal forces). At the same time, this helped me move towards a more natural combination of movements and has been instrumental in my move from a high 20s to mid teens player over just a couple years. Thanks for all your quality content@

My right arm gets tired holding it in the standing up posture. It feels tight too. I actually am in fairly good shape and work out regularly. Apparently though, I'm not that strong at holding my upper arm up in a not-very-abducted posture for a while and moving it up and down though! Anyone else feel like it's pretty tight or tiring up there? Maybe that's why I tend to always overly abduct my right arm and then have it fall away from me in downswing!

This is 🤯-ingly good! Being into 3D myself (arch-vis and non-related stuff) I've long wanted to see something similar to this. Extremely valuable. PLEASE, keep videos like this coming. I'm a self-learner that likes to think a lot about the swing and individual components (but I'm trying to get away from swing thoughts when actually swinging) and I love how videos like this VALIDATE some good thoughts I've had and simultaneously CLEARS the bad stuff letting me leave it behind without second guessing myself.
I absolutely LOVE to see the correct trail arm movement here, that was one of my own "aha!" findings last season that I later left and moved on to other sensations (because it was "just something I found" and I didn't know if it was correct). This will make me double down on finding and truly ingraining this pro move. THANKS!

Absolutely the most insightful golf instruction out there. Love how both of you break down the actual motion versus perceived motion of the golf swing. The frame of reference is so amazing to help me understand the swing. I wish this was available 20yrs ago! Big difference in my swing but I noticed that the speed of lowering my right arm and straightening right elbow has to match my downswing shoulder rotation otherwise my hands will be out of sync. I had to learn to speed up my right arm movements. Is this correct? Thanks so much for all you do AMG!

This is the best video on you channel. No contest. Isolating individual movements is so incredibly helpful to better understand the golf swing. The bit I loved in particular is where you show the downswing arm move completely isolation. It’s so simple when you see it like that! I hope you keep doing more videos like this.

@@AthleticMotionGolf Can you do some videos focused on chipping and pitching measurements please? I've heard respected teachers argue for opposite methods, and both sides say the pros do what they teach.

Truly outstanding video, guys. I'm a complete beginner who picked the game up 8 months ago, so this is all new to me. I love the idea of isolating a body part and giving evidence-based drills for it. I'll be doing your trail arm drills! Would love to see a similar analysis of the lead arm, because right up until 14:13 I had convinced myself that I don't have the flexibility in my lead shoulder to get a good backswing...

So I commented video yesterday, but I took this concept of unfolding/lowering of the right arm to the course, and I played LIGHTS OUT. You've gotta do this for each body part. I'm just so blown away by how helpful this was.

Absolutely brilliant analysis and video production on full display here. Kudos! 👏
The “passive arms” intent couldn’t be more wrong. The trail arm move independent of the pivot is much like chopping wood at a slight angle. Pros get their hands moving faster and sooner in the downswing, and they’re not doing that with their pivot.
