Hi friends! I hope you enjoy these low sugar smoothies and don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY! Details are in the video description. Come join our private FB group as well and you can post a photo of your favorite smoothie recipe. :) xo - Lisa
Wow !! Such a generous giveaway !! Been on your email list for a while so I got so excited when you announced this again !! Ps these smoothies look so good 😍😍
My new favorite smoothie - and one that is getting me excited for Fall - is a pumpkin pie smoothie! I blend together a cup of unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup of pure pumpkin puree, a scoop of my favorite vanilla whey protein powder (adds protein of course and a little sweetness), a tsp of vanilla and some ground cinnamon (or any fall spice you want) - it's low in sugar and rich in taste and goodness!
What I like to do is to freeze coconut milk or yoghurt in ice cubes and use those to keep the smoothie cool. It also gives it somewhat of a frappé-texture, which I personally like a lot. When you do that and add in some raw unsweetend chocolate powder and instant espresso powder it makes a nice sort of moccha-frappé-smoothie.
Blondie, you are the one who has influenced me. I am a perfectionist, but you are the most organized and professional chef that I have ever seen in the kitchen. Of course, on a scale from one to 10, I give you a million stars for each and every one of your recipes.☺
I have found that a dash of oil, some lemon juice or vinegar and a pinch of salt makes veges in a smoothie more palatable and less sugar is needed. Kind of like a cold soup or gazpacho. I start with cucumber or zucchini, add leafy greens like spinach, kale or beet tops, something yellow like carrots or golden beets, a stick of celery, spring onion and lastly herbs like mint or parsley. I then add either a third of a frozen banana or a small amount of mango, but not too much. It is surprisingly good. And at this time of year, all the veg comes direct from my garden.
You are the best, the best !!!! I learned so much, I suffer of psoriasis for four decades, so I really know what means to have and suffer of autoimmune disease😞 Amazing videos ! I am lucky to find you😊 Health is all we need!
Lisa, I appreciate how much knowledge you have about food handling and preservation, as well as the reasons behind every step in the cooking process. Not knowing your background, I would think you have a masters in molecular biology or chemistry!
Im on a new journey in eating right. I have always thought that I ate right but, your food videos have made me rethink again. Im inspired by your explanations and rationales in eat food recipe that makes so much sense in healing the body from the inside. I have not watched all which I plan to to get more educated. Thank you for sharing.
Smoothie make it way to easy to eat a lot of fruit and with it sugar in a very short time, even without adding sweeteners. It is still a bit better than drinking juice where the sugar is not buffered in the slightest, but mixing too gets the sugar faster into the bloodstream, as if you would eat the fruit whole . . . People with autoimmune or other inflamatory issues realy should be mindful with them for both fructose and insulin can be harmful in that case. Fat, protein and fiber all help to slow the sugar absorbtion and lesen the fallout.
Hi- Just bought a vitamix and so far worth every penny. Low sugar is the key to a healthy smoothie and your video shows you also don't have to give up on taste either. Nice tips on how to freeze vegetables. Keep making videos and thanks for all the info you share
Love these! My go to low sugar smoothie is: water, two handfuls of spinach, an inch of ginger, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and a half a frozen banana. Makes enough for two!
Thanks for the ideas on zucchini prep! I don't have much of a sweet tooth so it's nice to see ways to get a little less sugar in my smoothies. A favorite of mine is spiced butternut squash with pecans and milk - I had leftover custard made with eggs so it's a complete breakfast without enough sugar to taste like a dessert.
I have made three of these and they have been great! Game changers for me in my quest to eat healthier. I have a prescription from my Dr for a probiotic scoop and it has worked perfectly with these smoothies. My goal will be to try to add the cauliflower next.
Thanks for these, Lisa! For frozen cauliflower, I think I'll try organic cauliflower rice which you can get frozen at Trader Joes (and probably other places). Or frozen cauliflower florets. I need to save time standing in the kitchen ( leg problems).
Off to buy the zucchini and cauliflower to blanch and freeze. I add Kale, spinach and swiss chard frequently but never thought of the zuc or cauliflower!
I love combining milder typs of cabbage, mostly the pointy one where I do not know the english therm of, or red cabbage with pineapple or apple if I can not get the former, it is just realy great
THANK YOU!!!!! My little four-year-old likes to be in charge of the smoothie recipes in the family. He likes to make sure they are healthy and ready for when the boys All get home from school. He watched these and said let’s make them! I said we would have to wait as it is 7 pm at night LOL.
I've been looking for a way to replace bananas for my smoothies and this video does just that, and solves all my problems! Thank you for your generosity for the giveaway and Happy Birthday!!
I am so glad to have happened across your TH-cam channel. I am allergic to seafood and fish and am lactose and gluten intolerant. I love to cook and bake, so my new found gluten intolerance is making it difficult to make meals that I can eat without becoming ill. Thank you for your inspiring tutorials!
I love the ingredients that you're using and how you're combining the fruits and vegetables together. My one big question is "Why are you cooking the vegetables in all that water as to me you're losing the nutrients??. " I use raw vegetables of all sorts just washed and throw them in. I don't think you mentioned the fact either that when you're putting the vegetables in with the fruits people that don't normally like the vegetables won't even barely notice the taste. A trick I like to share with spinach is, once it's dry if you freeze it when you take it out you can crumble it up into flakes to make more room in your storage container and easier to put in the smoothie. Thanks for the video you have great ideas.
So glad I found this video, I just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes so anything low in sugar and healthy will be a huge benefit. Enjoy your channel.
I usually mix frozen berries, water, one tablespoon of unsweetened yogurt and one tablespoon of honey, but these recipes look amazing, definitely gonna try them :)
I randomly clicked on this vid bc needed some downshiftology content & realized this was exactly 1 year ago...on your birthday. And today is your birthday!!!
Very interesting combinations! I need to try them all. Love the idea for frozen veggies, adding veggies wherever we can is always a plus nutrition-wise. I used to make a smoothie with a couple of handfuls of kale & a cup of frozen blueberries. It's been a while, but I believe I used almond milk and sometimes yogurt, and a bit of cinnamon. You truly cannot taste the kale! Hoping you will be doing another Vitamix giveaway this year. This fellow Virgo - September 18 - could use one for sure!
Your content is ALWAYS superior! As someone who tries to eat well while really counting (calories, proteins, carbs. Macros in general), I've relied on your savvy skill set. Thank you and cheers...Enjoy your next orbit around our star.
I just discovered this vieo(as well as some other amazing recipe videos on your site). This couldn't come at a better time, as I have been contemplating bringing smoothies into my daily eating routine. Thank you so much! These are fantastic!
Wow Soooo happy u made smoothie w/out Banana!!!!! This is so EXCITING! I was hoping to get a refurbish V.Mix but I'm unable to at this time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA! You share the day with my HUBBY of 24yrs!! Let me tell ya that I have really enjoyed your channel! My pantry is organized & prep my ingredients (lifesaver ;) my eggs are PERFECT (still trying to peel them w/easy SMH) and now Smoothies!!!! Thank you for the opportunity to win. Win or Lose it's been great knowing you & watching.
Thanks for the birthday wishes and that's great I have a birthday twin - haha! So happy you're loving all my recipes and videos and I'm thrilled for the positive impact they've had on you. Thanks for being part of the community! :) x
Those bags! I need them! This is great. I avoid smoothies in general because I already feel like I eat so much all day that I can't afford the extra cals! But these ones would be great for a quick brekkie on the go. Thanks! - Paula
This came in at a perfect timing. I'm trying to control my sweet intake. Never thought of adding these vegetables to my smoothie. Certainly will try it. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I just found your website and TH-cam site and I’ve just decided a week ago to go non-gluten and to eat healthy oh my goodness I am loving all of your information and your recipes. It could be a little overwhelming when changing your eating Habits but you are making it easy thank you I will be following you every day
Changing to gluten-free wasn't an easy transition at first for me, but eventually I taught myself how to get into healthy eating habits and really appreciate and utilize fresh and delicious ingredients!
I tried the blanched zucchini in different smoothies and I am SHOOK! I was sceptical at first but now i am throwing zuch in every smoothie I make and it is delicious, makes it nice and creamy.
@@DownshiftologyI have Ulcerative Colitis so I was scared that raw-ish veg would hurt my stomach but it really does digest well. I am so happy! Thank you Thank you :) I am sold. Will be trying all the other veggie options.
I love the professional way you make your videos. How easy you make us see how to prepare smoothies, motivating us to healthy nutrition. Regards from Miami 🌞🌴🌊
I often add homemade ginger tea (from real ginger and hot water, not the tea bags) in place of water or juice. After steeping I put it in the fridge so it's cold. I frequently add leafy baby greens and chopped celery and they don't overpower the other flavors. If you don't like the green color use the frozen berry mix Lisa shows in the video. The smoothie will then be purple!
These sound good. I rarely use a recipe for a smoothie. I use what I have on hand, usually celery, cucumber, kale and or spinach, parsley, a handful of nuts if I have some around, and some frozen fruit, such as strawberries or blueberries. (I personally dislike banana in smoothies - I know, weird). I pour in enough plain kefir so it blends. I also add cinnamon and vanilla. Sometimes I will add a plain whey protein powder (no flavors, no sugars) in winter, when citrus is abundant, I do a version of an Orange Julius, using kefir, crushed ice, oranges and grapefruit.
Thank you for sharing, i was recently diagnosed with borderline diabetics, and this morning I woke with the intention of looking for a low sugar smoothie to start my day (everyday), and what do I find in my email first thing in the morning????? You! Sharing recipes for low sugar smoothies! Like as if you heard me 😱 and I got more excited to find out that we’re both Virgo 🙌🏽 Anyway, I’m praying that I win your Vitamix giveaway 🙏🏽 that would be a dream! And if I don’t someone else deserves it more than I do. Thank you for everything that you do, I truly appreciate you 😘 Advance Happy Birthday! 🎂🎉
Oh yay, perfect timing! I hope you enjoy the new smoothie recipes Anna and I'll keep my fingers crossed on the giveaway. Happy birthday to you as well! x
Loved this video! I have such a love-hate relationship with smoothies though, because I have a sensitivity to both spinach AND bananas (I know. It's weird. And it makes it very difficult to eat smoothies). If anyone here has the same struggles as me, I always substitute a banana for avocado. It thickens up the smoothies much like bananas do, but you can barely taste it! Also, I'm pretty sure kale would work as a spinach substitute as well. Just a little fun fact for any peeps with sensitive tummies.
Lauren Smith I can relate! Unfortunately I have trouble with bananas AND avocados! It’s the worst...I believe they’re supposedly both linked with latex allergies or ragweed (I can’t remember), but I’m glad she does make banana free smoothies at all! So many places have bananas in EVERY recipe!! The pineapple coconut is calling my name!
Great Ideas. Nothing like a good smoothie to get the day going. Hope you have a wonderful birthday coming up. Thank you so much for having this giveaway. I don't have an exciting recipe, I just do 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup 3 berry mix, 1 scoop of plant protein vanilla flavor, 1 Tb chia seeds, and then 1 cup almond milk or a bit more for the consistency that I want.
Thank you for inspiring me to cut down on my downfall, sugar. These look very doable and using your nut milks and oat milk recipes I am on a path to better health.
Lisa, I love all of the work you do for us. Your viewers are several notches more healthy than the average TH-cam viewer, and your methods have changed the way I feed my body! But, drying foodstuff with paper towel creeps me out. You are not alone it this, I know. I use a salad spinner and forego the dietary wood pulp. Several years ago I used a piece of paper towel to pick a speck of something from my eye. After a few attempts, the speck was out but I noticed a line of translucent particles just inside my lower eye lid. Tiny shreds of paper towel had dissolved into my eye! I was shocked at how quickly it happened. "Just add water," certainly applies here. All you have to do is accidently let a piece of paper towell get into your laundry to know what I mean. Your beautiful cloths come out of the dryer covered with lint. The white fuzz ends up everywhere. Water on veggies dilutes dressings. Water on steaks does what? I have no idea. But paper towel is the go-to every time. Uck! Please use a salad spinner. Do it to save trees, do it for zero waste, any reason will be better than injesting wood pulp with metal and garbage added at the recycling plant.
Love these, especially that pineapple coconut. Can’t wait to try these. Thanks so much! Our birthdays are super close! I’m the 28th! Happy early birthday! Virgo twins! ❤️❤️
And those aren't bad at all. It's when you add a whole banana with a whole mango where the sugar levels really shoot up (even though I love that smoothie - ha!). ;)
These look amazing !!! Such a good excuse for another food haul !!!😂😂 Edit: Also just want to say thank you for all these recipes. Both my dad and sister are celiac and I’m vegan so we’re constantly searching for tasty foods to try out xx
Oh my goodness you're making me crave a smoothie this morning! Thank you for the ideas. I didn't realize you could freeze zucchini. But I do like the Frozen cauliflower hack I have done it and it makes things so luscious.
You have some really great recipes here. This week I will pick up some ingredients and maybe experiment with some dragon fruit. I never thought of using cauliflower in a smoothie but it makes sense to thicken the texture and knock out the excess sugar of ordinarily using something such as a banana. Sugar is great, I still bake the occasional batch of cookies, but I no longer have the sweet tooth of my younger years and the health benefits of limiting it are also an obvious bonus. Also, early happy birthday!
Yes, cauliflower is great and I'm right there with you on sugar as we get older. I ate tons of dragon fruit when I lived in Bali for 2 months - love that! Thanks for the birthday wishes as well! :) x
I have subscribed to everything and have totally binged watched every video since I discovered you, some 2 or 3 times over, and I have made a total life transformation in the last couple of weeks all because of this channel. Thank you so much for putting me on to a healthier future x
Loved this video never put zucchini in a smoothie before can't wait to try it❤👌🏽 Can you do a low sugar meal prep video for type 2 diabetics and prediabetics?☺
I cannot wait to try some of these! I love the idea of adding zucchini. It's a great way to add bulk without adding more sugar. The Vitamix seems to make the smoothies so smooth and creamy. Fingers crossed and Happy Birthday!
@@Downshiftology I made the green one this morning...delicious! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Endometriosis a year ago. I stumbled across your channel and blog while researching. I am so glad I did.
I don’t have IG or any kind of social media so can’t enter the drawing but still enjoyed the video. I’ll continue to save for a Vitamix! Happy Birthday! 🎂
Happy early Birthday! Hope it's a fantastic day for you, may you be blessed to have much laughter and a ton of love everyday. Love the video, so going to try the frozen vegetable idea. Thank you for also educating me in ref to the banana replacement!
These smoothies look amazing 😍 Your employee has an awesome job being able to enjoy all your healthy foods (assuming she does!) 😅 That is one powerful blender, and it’s so cool you get to partner with Vitamix. Happy early birthday! ☺️
Thanks so much for suggesting the zucchini in place of bananas. I have pcos and am really trying to dial back my sugar and carbs. I love the banana flavor in my smoothie so I put in some banana extract with the zucchini and lots of ice. So glad I saw this video-thanks for sharing!
Great ideas, Lisa! I’m going to try a few of these with my kids. I love smoothies but often find them too sweet as well so this is incredibly helpful ♥️
I watch your channel form the Czech Rep. Many, many thanks for inspiration. I’ve tried to implement some recipes so far and our family loves them. Happy B-day!
Another awesome video! I never thought of putting some veggies other than green leafy veggies to fruit smoothies! I’ve been watching your vids for almost 2 years and so proud of your success on your channel. Please keep it going for me!

I definitely love smoothies and fruit, so thank you for the lower sugar options.
I love your viedos. I would like if you could make one where you you eat deviled eggs on your hike
That sounds delicious! I definitely need to whip that up!
That sounds so good! Maybe if I make it, I can will an early Fall. 🎃 ☕️ 🍂
Definitely will give this a try. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Thanks for sharing!!🎃🎃👻

Use green bananas as they have less sugar.
LBlush my mornings without bananas are not the same 😭

I like to use the tougher cauliflower parts for smoothies, saving the florets for other purposes.
I CHOMP ON THOSE TOUGHER PARTS WHILE PREPPINGTHE FLORET!!!

Finally a video on low sugar smoothies. Thank you so much Lisa. Love all the ideas here.

When I put chia seed I wait 10 minutes before blending and it helps making it smoother :)

That's a great idea - love it! Especially as I love everything ginger. :)
Thank you Lisa, just the inspiration needed to get back on a healthier track! 🍃🌿🌱 💚
Wonderful! I hope you enjoy them all!
@@karisamarie4292 Yes! it is linked to latex allergies, because I have one! Is that not the weirdest thing?! So random ...
Lauren Smith so random...and annoying when you actually like those foods, lol
Loved these recipes! Thanks for the zucchini and cauliflower tip 👍🏽 Need to try them all. 😊😋
Thanks for the birthday wishes Chris! And that sounds like a great combo to me!
Wow! Thanks for the giveaway! My blender just died within the last month, so the timing on this is perfect....ALSO, Happy Birthday!
Thank you for inspiring me to cut down on my downfall, sugar. These look very doable and using your nut milks and oat milk recipes I am on a path to better health.
Good thing I live in San Diego ,always summer😎
So happy that you present banana alternatives! I will definitely try your smoothies one after the other.
It's always good to switch things up and frozen zucchini is such an awesome alternative. Enjoy!
I just found you a couple of weeks ago! I love smoothies! Thank for sharing
Nice recipes! Can I also use Frozen uncooked cauliflower?
Yes, no problem. :)
You make everything look so simple & easy to make. Can't decide which to try first.
It's a tough decision, isn't it? ;)
Love these, especially that pineapple coconut. Can’t wait to try these. Thanks so much!
Our birthdays are super close! I’m the 28th!
Happy early birthday! Virgo twins! ❤️❤️
Happy birthday to you as well! And yes, I loved that pineapple coconut one!
I'm going to have to give these a go, I always add a half of banana but that and dates are the only sugar I really consume. Thanks for sharing Lisa!
And those aren't bad at all. It's when you add a whole banana with a whole mango where the sugar levels really shoot up (even though I love that smoothie - ha!). ;)
These look amazing !!! Such a good excuse for another food haul !!!😂😂
Edit: Also just want to say thank you for all these recipes. Both my dad and sister are celiac and I’m vegan so we’re constantly searching for tasty foods to try out xx
Spinach, cucumber, kiwi, avocado, almond/cashew butter sounds great. Thanks for the ideas!
I can't wait to try these smoothie recipes. An thanks for the chance to win the Vitamix blender!
Oh my goodness you're making me crave a smoothie this morning! Thank you for the ideas. I didn't realize you could freeze zucchini. But I do like the Frozen cauliflower hack I have done it and it makes things so luscious.
Freezing the zucchini and cauliflower is so great for smoothies! Hope you love these new recipes :)
Thanks for following along to my channel Karen! I'm so happy to hear my videos have inspired you to move onto a healthier lifestyle.

Can you do a low sugar meal prep video for type 2 diabetics and prediabetics?☺
Yes, definitely try it with the zucchini...I think you'll love it!
Life Of Gigi M 💖 Keto and no fruit.
And type 1
I cannot wait to try some of these! I love the idea of adding zucchini. It's a great way to add bulk without adding more sugar. The Vitamix seems to make the smoothies so smooth and creamy. Fingers crossed and Happy Birthday!
Adding both zucchini and cauliflower are great for adding heft to your smoothies :) Hope you love them Jennifer!
@@Downshiftology I made the green one this morning...delicious! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Endometriosis a year ago. I stumbled across your channel and blog while researching. I am so glad I did.
I never thought of using frozen zuchini in a smoothie! That's a wonderful tip, thank you!
Yes, it's wonderful! It keeps it cold, adds a little heft and you can't even tell it's there. ;)
Thanks for sharing! Love the idea of frozen veggies to keep smoothie chilled and low sugar!
Yes, zucchini and cauliflower are my favorites for that!
I don’t have IG or any kind of social media so can’t enter the drawing but still enjoyed the video. I’ll continue to save for a Vitamix! Happy Birthday! 🎂
It makes so much sense to use those veggie types in smoothies. Totally going to add those to some of my smoothies going forward!
Enjoy these recipes 😊
I love adding veggies in my smoothies 💗 I will swap out bananas for cauliflower tomorrow morning 💪🏽 Thanks for the recipes!
Happy early Birthday! Hope it's a fantastic day for you, may you be blessed to have much laughter and a ton of love everyday. Love the video, so going to try the frozen vegetable idea. Thank you for also educating me in ref to the banana replacement!

That is one powerful blender, and it’s so cool you get to partner with Vitamix. Happy early birthday! ☺️

Love love love the idea of zucchini and cauliflower in a smoothie! Happy early birthday, Lisa!
Thanks Daisy! Hope you love these recipes :)
Yum yummy I always worry about how many fruits go into smoothies . Keeping low sugar to help continue with my weight loss journey
Thanks so much for suggesting the zucchini in place of bananas. I have pcos and am really trying to dial back my sugar and carbs. I love the banana flavor in my smoothie so I put in some banana extract with the zucchini and lots of ice. So glad I saw this video-thanks for sharing!
Nice
Thank you..

Great ideas, Lisa! I’m going to try a few of these with my kids. I love smoothies but often find them too sweet as well so this is incredibly helpful ♥️

Hi
I watch your channel form the Czech Rep. Many, many thanks for inspiration. I’ve tried to implement some recipes so far and our family loves them. Happy B-day!
Lovely colours but keeping those Vitamix containers looking clear and non-cloudy is a mystery to me
Add soap and water right after use then blend! Self-cleaning basically!
@@tpn1110 yep. Got one and I use the self cleaning programme.... but it container still gets cloudy. Someone mentioned vinegar ...
Another awesome video! I never thought of putting some veggies other than green leafy veggies to fruit smoothies! I’ve been watching your vids for almost 2 years and so proud of your success on your channel. Please keep it going for me!
I hope you love these recipes! And thanks again for following along to my channel. Means the world!
