    On a college campus in Florida, I completely forgot to throw in a Florida man joke in the video but an outbreak of a created disease meant to regrow brain cells would begin spreading through the local population. As it did, it would enrage the students and cause them to attack one another. As the Doctor who created this virus began to realize what was happening, well he would completely lose his mind. But how exactly does this virus work? lets discuss that in todays episode!

    My mom had an aneurysm busrt at the back of her head(which ultimately saved her life since the blood was able to seep down the back of her neck rather than pooling) and had to have it coiled. She also had vasospasms afterwards. She had some bad side effects in the beginning. Memory loss, numbness in one arm, lack of peripheral vision, etc. After about a year(all the while refusing to take any narcotic painkillers) she made an unbelievable recovery. Only a little tingling in her affected hand and some blurred peripheral vision on one side. The brain is absolutely miraculous.

    So basically our brains have the ability to create new neurons but it turns off after we are born. Would stem cell injections be able to encourage the regrowth or themselves become new neurons to repair the damaged ones?

    • @amohotepv
      @amohotepv ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I recall him stating in another video that creating too many new neurons becomes harmful at a certain point, with too many connections and a reordering of the brain, meaning a new personality.

    • @dimetime35c

      @@amohotepv but wouldn't a certain number of stem cells only repair as many neurons as that number of cells injected?

    • @liamzakhaev
      @liamzakhaev ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@dimetime35c it's less that it would repair and more that it'd replace damaged and dead neurons

    • @wiczus6102
      @wiczus6102 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dimetime35c If there is a clear sizeable area where the neurons could be injected (after a stroke for instance) then it is a possibility. If you have something that causes the damage all over the brain (aging, neurodegenerative disorders), then how would you even inject it? We have the same problem with cancer, if it's too spread it would require too many surgeries.
      Stem cells can differentiate to cells other than neurons which might be necessary if you want to prevent the condition from worsening (blood cells, glial cells etc.) and they can differentiate into neurons which might let us regain some of the neuron tissue.
      The problem that was mentioned in the video is that if neuron copies are created locally it would alter the local information flow, so we would need to relearn that local information, which is irrelevant if there was a stroke.
      Total neuron count is not the problem because we are talking about a small tissue mass increase. If you look at artificial neural networks, resizing layers by 5% makes no difference in informational flow. If we would increase the layers by an order of magnitude, the network might become incapable of learning. So neuron count is not problem in this particular scenario.

      @@amohotepvdifferent personality or losing some memories is still better than having no personality or being totally paralyzed, for example. So yeah, you wouldn't do it as for nootropic effect, but for people with brain trauma or neurodegenerative diseases - why not?
      Plus, we don't ACTUALLY know what effect that would have on memories and personality. There is credible research to suggest it wouldn't be drastic at all with moderate neuron regeneration.

    I had a teacher in Grade 4, that was a Science teacher, Math teacher and Music Teacher. I think she also taught English on occasion whenever one of the English teachers were sick. During one of our Science classes in Grade 4 she posed the question, "What organ do you think is the most important organ in your body." Most of the class answered the Brain immediately, but I took a moment to actually discern the answer for myself and said the Heart, as I thought nothing in your body would be able to operate without the heart. I can't exactly remember anything after that, but all I remember was our Science teacher asking me why I thought the heart was the most important organ. Obviously because we need oxygen and blood to flow through our body to survive.

    could you analyze Ouroboros from Resident Evil? I feel as if that is one of the more complex and interesting viruses/parasites in that game series.

    It's been a long time since I saw 28 Days Later, so I'm not sure hence the question.
    This film showed that infected can somewhat control themselves if they know the person, therfore showing emotional reasons etc still work.
    In 28 Days Later they say it's a rage infection on the basic side. But from what I can remember, as said long time since watching. This means they arnt dead so not zombies. So why is the little boy in that road side cafe the only infected that properly talks. When he attacks the dude he's screaming "I hate you" I think I remember. But no one else infected talks they just act like extras in a zombie film would. So did they tell the kid to shout actually words, did the kid understand acting infected with the virus better, depending on your opinion. Or is there a difference in how it affects you depending on age.
    Hope this sort of makes sense and that I'm remembering the film OK.

      What does is it mean to be "dead?" Losing the ability to reason or no more biochemical activity?

    • @tymothyyoung1530
      @tymothyyoung1530 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tito-mi2tp well in my question I more meant as in traditional zombie films were they are reanimated fully, gone, dead, no life left sort of old school idea. Not as in the thought of well the zombie can't really be full on dead if there's some brain activity as our awesome host has many at time spoken about. Though in 28 days later they are just infected.
      But honestly if you think about it there can be many ways where the word dead can be used. Like I think of myself as having two lives in a sense. One before I was in a coma and my daughter was still born and the one I live now. To me I died, I'm not who I was and never will be, and so much of the whole world and what truly means something to me has changed considerably.

      It was an oversight, there's no lore reason for it. They just messed up.

    • @TitoVespasianus
      @TitoVespasianus ปีที่แล้ว

      imo, zombies make no sense. There is no way you do anything if you are dead. They defy the laws of physics. If you want to discuss biochemistry, you have to take that into account. Btw, a virus can affect the brain areas responsible for emotions without affecting the areas responsible for speech and the other way around.
