Correction: The long gap on the side of the fuselage, under the red stripe forward of the cockpit, is intended to represent the proton torpedo launch cutout. IMO it does a poor job of this due to its length, narrowness, and rectangular shape (basically everything about it except its position). However it is not a design oversight.
I do really appreciate that you don’t have advertisements during the review. Many TH-cam videos have become unwatchable due to the number of ads interrupting the flow of the review.
I'll be honest: I don't really see the value here... There's too much left to be desired here. Like, WAY too much to be desired. The droops, the gaps, the general susceptibility to sun damage, the R2 size, all of it. Who asked for this?
It's big, yes. But nothing more. Too many little flaws, too much drooping, R2 is a joke, on a UCS they should have gone to 100% and include the 4x4 head from 2017

The technic mechanism for the s-foils is accurate, but so, SO bad. Like, terribly under-engineered. TWO rubber bands? That mechanism can barely hold one wing, let alone two. For $240, that is a massive disappointment. Like, scale issues and all else aside, I don't want my shiny brand new display set to sag like it's using century old rubber bands.
Maybe I’m too biased - but I like the smaller “toy” versions of these Star Wars ships. But I also understand the appeal of these larger display models. If you have the space and money - more power to ya :-)
I find it strange that there was less love put into the “landed” form of the x-wing. The absence of landing gear really bothers me. When I think back to the original films I always recall the scenes where Luke is gearing up to get into the x-wing and I really loved how it looked on the ground on standby. The droopy wings don’t help the look of it either when they are collapsed
I don't think this is an unnecessary UCS set, but it is an admittedly underwhelming and boring one to me

I feel like the many flaws are a result of them rushing to release this set by May 4th. Especially the stand issue, the only way that could've been overlooked is if they saw it, approved it, then shipped it. I'm sure many of us could've waited a couple more months for a more finished and polished set. Something as important and iconic as the X-Wing deserved better for the Ultimate Collectors Series.
