It's a wonderful set, but is so massive! My wife bought it for me for my birthday a couple of years ago, and was a fantastic build!
I had to take it apart and store it as we have no space to display it and have had a baby.
When he is old enough, I will get it out again and we will build it together!

The conversation you had with yourself about ‘why have I never appreciated the Falcon before this.’ Is a conversation I had with myself when I saw the Solo version with the gorgeous blue and white paneling. That was the first time I ever saw the Falcon and thought ‘I need one of those.’

I think that version of the ship (and the set itself) are extremely underrated. I’ve never been a huge fan of the ugly ship from the OT (they literally spent the entire first movie calling it hideous) but that sleek, new paint job, escape pod in the prongs, all so beautiful

Wow, I'm glad you did the review because this is the first time I've seen anything about the potential sagging. Most other reviews have been basically all praise but this is the most honest review of the set I've seen. Thanks for doing this Jang, even if it's almost a half decade late!

Yeah thats something I'm a bit worried about my Falcon. The front mandibles feel like they have sagged a bit. I think some support underneath it can go a long way in preventing any issues.

  • @DigitalVanquish
    @DigitalVanquish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +50

It truly is an amazing set. As a word of warning, the mandibles do sag a little bit. But it's due to plates loosening, as a result of weight, not the bars bending. So, I just pop the front-mid section off, and press the plates back into place, and squeeze the mandibles, every so often. I have it displayed on all feet - parallel to the table - for reference.

  • @lukerope1906

Fun Fact: This Falcon is not based on any version seen the films.
So there were two main filming models in the OT. A 5 foot model and a 32 inch model. They are quite different from each other And for a few added shots for the Special Editions a CGI model was made based mainly of the 32 inch model with a few details from the 5 foot model. There's an additional version of this CGI model that was not used in the film that used in promo photos and was used in many of the refrence book instead. It's version that LEGO used based this on. It has one big detail that does not exsit on any other versions. And that is that dark grey swath on the left mandible.
That's why there is those extra bits for the mandibles. The Sequel Falcon is based on the 5 foot model, so those extra bits are replicating look of the 5 foot model. Since that Specail Edition Falcon was largely based on the 32 inch model, particularly the front.

I got mine for 600 € when Smith Toys had a discount on Lego SW sets, which is absolutely fair for this massive set. Was a blast to build and i do not regret getting it. Mine is displayed on a vertical stand though, takes up way less space like that and in my opinion also improves the viewing angle :)

A brand new review of a somewhat older set....and I like it. That smile says enough :D. I have put this on a custom made stand out of tech-Lego. Quite an expensive MOC you can find on rebrickable, but the instructions were free. Which looks perfect. I should have watched the youtube instructions though, how to careful place theFalcon on that stand..... To make a long story short: I am one of the few people who has build the same Falcon twice.

    Great review.
Other than finding room to display this set the biggest problems I have with it is the lack of interior spaces and the poor MiniFigure selection.
For an Ultimate set at this price it should have more interior spaces and everyone at least from the Original Trilogy who was ever onboard. No Lando?

Honestly, if you want to keep it, keep it! I think everyone would understand your reasons for changing your mind. It's not a set you want to rebuild in the future. I dismantled my Star Destroyer because I needed the room but I was never that pleased with it as the Millennium Falcon which I will never take apart because it looks so much better and the build experience was far more interesting. Keep the Millennium Falcon. We can see in your face how much you love it and how much it would pain you to dismantle it. This set was a long time coming for you and you should be able to enjoy it everyday you look at it.

06:06 I agree Jang, I’m a big Star Wars fan…..but I have never understood why people love the falcon so much. It’s not the nicest of ships design wise plus it’s basically a big lorry. I mean that what it essentially functions as within the SW universe, it’s for hauling cargo illegal or otherwise from one place to another with room for the crew to sleep. The best Star Wars vehicle IMHO? The B wing, with the Slave 1 being a close second. They’re ships that are interesting and actually make a lot of sense spaceship design wise what with sections of each ship moving relative to the rest of the ship, I mean there is no up or down in space so why limit a ship to that idea?
That said I have now got the UCS falcon just because it’s easier and cheaper than finding a UCS B Wing….

As late as this review is, definitely well worth the wait. A very impressive model, and display piece worthy of any living room coffee table if you don't have the space elsewhere. The 89 Batmobile I think is the closest I'll ever come to owning any display piece of this sheer scale/size and I think that's fine.

The (mostly) vertical stands you can buy for this are totally worth it IMO. I have mine sitting next to my monitor on my computer desk. It's not an especially large desk either. The mandibles stick out some, but with no kids or pets in that room I'm not worried about it.
If you plan to go that route, it's a good idea to get the stand with the Falcon. Attaching the stand to the completed model is tricky. Attaching it when it's like half built, before you start putting the upper panels on, super easy.
The stand tips it up at a pretty steep angle, and a lot of the upper body panels are held on by gravity, but I have not had any of them fall off. I don't think a 100% vertical wall mount would work though, unless you modified the mounting system for the panels to be more secure.

Hi Jang, I believe the design of the Falcon was going to be the model of the Tantive IV originally but Lucas thought it looked too much like another ship seen in a UK Gerry Anderson show Space 1999. However during a production meeting lunch Lucas and a friend of his were in a cafe and the friend had ordered a hamburger with pickles. Long story short his friend took a bite out of the burger then put it back on the plate causing a pickle to roll over next to it. The resulting shape caught Lucas' eye and he saw the outline for the Falcon! Good job LEGO designers don't create their designs this way. Congrats on a fantastic ship.

I have seen this model at my local Lego Store and it is stunning. What is interesting is it is the same size as the smaller shooting model ILM made for “Empire Strikes Back”. And you’re right, the detail is fabulous. In terms of the Millennium Falcon proper, I understand what you are saying but you must agree it is iconic. For me, my favourite Star Wars ships are, in order: Blockade Runner (what was the “original” Millennium Falcon); Y-Wing; and Millennium Falcon.
    Have fun taking it apart.

I am quite not sure how to cope with watching it. In the most funny way I'm a bit scared.
Thank you for all the work and effort giving quality and joy.

The great thing about that empty void in the back section is it’s great for hiding away the alternate dish and other spare parts

It’s better because it’s the Millennium Falcon. There were so many scenes shot in the ship throughout the last six movies that it’s almost as we’ve all flown in it. There’s a great deal of nostalgia with this ship (especially in the original trilogy) even though it’s kind of like an old station wagon, but it’s so cool.

I'd love the challenge to build this UCS Millennium Falcon! But when you do, you really need to anticipate the space where you will display this massive build! I don't have that kind of space, or the money to purchase it, but still, it looks way cool! This is definitely a grail to own, as massive as it is, you won't stop looking a it! I can still remember the very first Millennium Falcon that Lego made in 2000, it looks almost nothing like the ship we see in the movies, but had a ton of interior space! (I'm sure you can find the review on Jang's channel! 😉) Thanks for this awesome review that I never thought you would make one day, Jang!

An absolutely amazing set. I completely understand the effect it's had on you. It's proof that some things really are more than the sum of their parts.
