    To be fair this one does contain a full interior, granted given the design this one is probably easier to implement that, but the Falcon had 2 small rooms and a very cramped cockpit. Not that that’s a huge thing to everyone but it does speak volumes to the Lego designers prowess when it comes to designing vehicles that look good inside and out.

    • @Benjamin0119
      @Benjamin0119 2 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      Yeah I thought it was pretty crazy that that giant Falcon didn't have more room inside.

    • @askmeaboutsugma

      @@Benjamin0119 I absolutely agree. That’s exactly why I’ll probably buy the AT-AT but not the Falcon, sadly. I’m incredibly disappointed that the Lego designers didn’t give the Falcon a full interior. If I ever want a UCS-style model of the Falcon I’ll design one myself or build one of the custom designs from the community.

    The issue with Luke is that it's the wrong version. he's wearing the X-wing pilot jumpsuit, as opposed to the cold temperature thermal on that the rebels wear on Hoth.

    I appreciate the incredible cross-sections inspired interior space, speeder storage, room inside the cockpit and figure selection.
    Yet it felt a bit underwhelming when I saw it at my local Lego store. Large, yes, but somehow less impressive than the UCS Falcon that used to be in that spot.
    I’m not seeing myself shelling out 800€ for this one. And that’s coming from someone who has the ISD Devastator, the SSD Executor, the UCS Falcon and a thing for Imperial walkers.

    Does anyone know the cost of production for printed bricks? It seems absurd to me that an 800$ set for collectors wouldn’t be exclusively printed which looks cleaner and lasts longer. Additionally, and maybe I’m wrong on this but for the price point, 40 snow troopers doesn’t seem that crazy. I would love to see the cost distribution between licensing, designers, and manufacturing to see how the cost is decided and why certain corners get cut

    seems like im in a very small group of people that actually really like this set (despite its flaws)
    i got it for my birthday, i built it over 4 days (i was basically building it from when i woke up to when i went to bed, so the build-time alone makes up for a lot of potential flaws) and its now on display in my closet since i dont have a proper shelf yet to put it up in.
    i think it's a very good set, as i dont mind the little colors you see, the lack of tiling, and honestly i really love the loose panels, lets me actually play with it without much worry about breaking it accidentally.
    if you're thinking of buying this set, can afford it without breaking the bank, and have enough free time to assemble it and make use of it (either in MOC's you might make or just playing with it) then i seriously recommend you get it.
    the only criticism i do have is the lack of minifigures, i would've loved a few more snow troopers, perhaps even a couple rebel troopers instead of luke (since the luke minifigure isn't exclusive and honestly i dont like very much) but beyond that it is such an amazing set.
    big edit: i also think its important to note that this set may not be a great one to get as a gift to a small child or anyone (even yourself) you dont trust cant handle this set with care, thats because it is pretty big for a lego set, and when constructing it / playing with it you do need to be a bit careful because some of the pieces are able to break off and it'd just suck to have the at-at you spent a lot of time building fall onto the ground and break into dozens of pieces, so ya, if you dont trust you or whoever ur getting the set for can handle it with care, probably not the best one to get.

    The problem is, their "small" ones are pretty darn-well detailed and accurate themselves these days. I'm more than happy with my play-scale 2020 set instead. I could make myself want this if I really tried, but for once, I'm grateful with what I've already got. Also, at the price I bought the 2020 version at, I could buy about 11 of them for the AU price of the new UCS version.

    I wish the large vehicle UCS sets came with more customization options included. The Falcon did a good job with the figures and small parts. Maybe some optional universal interior decorations so that you can display either side open without it feeling so empty.

    • @RandomJoeseph
      @RandomJoeseph 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@scarletpumpernickel8260 You are correct that this is Hoth specific and that the Falcon is marketed universal across the movies. Endor wasn’t even a thought in my mind. ☺️ I’m also not talking about a completely different marketing scheme though. Given that context, I simply mean that if I display the set “open” from either side, I only see the backs of seats for a large portion. Having additional “mini/sub assemblies” to optionally replace those would have been a nice touch.
      For your idea, I would have wanted extra parts to make the feet/boots of that AT-AT muddy too! Or even some moss elements. Maybe they will make a future AT-ST more universal.🤞
      Personally speaking, sky as the limit, I would have given up all the snow troopers for some giant orange side pieces. I really enjoyed Rouge One.

    It seems that they really need to design these bigger sets for stability and ease of transport. I just finished the UCS Millennium Falcon a few days ago, and that thing started losing panels and stuff came loose inside.I couldn’t even figure out where most of the loose stuff was supposed to be attached. It’s discouraging me from getting the UCS Star Destroyer. I don’t need the headache. I’ve abandoned the thought of getting the vertical stand for the Falcon. I know that crap will fall apart if I attempt to mount it. Unfortunately,I can’t build these things on the spot where I’ll have them on display.

    I just completed mine & I love it! The size is so imposing and gives a sense of how intimidating the real thing would have been, especially when a minifig is standing next to one of those feet! I love that it matches the cutaway drawing so closely! As large as it is it doesn't take up a lot of real estate in comparison to the falcon or star destroyer. I'm going to have a mini hoth battle on top of my dresser. While I won't be playing with it, I will be able to change up the display on occasion. For me it's a holy grail set. I do understand why people wouldn't think this is worth the price, and objectively speaking - it isn't. However. Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a set like this, an AT-AT that was to scale with figures and could fit the canon amount inside. The AT-AT is one of my favourite Sci-Fi vehicles of all time, so I have a massive bias in support of it. Now, I probably won't ever be able to afford it myself as I can barely scrape by with food, but I will do everything I can do in order to get my hands on this thing as soon as possible. Because no matter what I'll have to endure, I need this set.
    Sick leave can get outta here, I'm gonna have to make and sell so much art to earn up for this, cuz to me it's definitely worth it. Not a huge fan of the Falcon but I do agree, objectively, with it offering more. But it doesn't compare to the AT-AT. First time I watched Star Wars was at my dad's place and it was airing on TV. We turned it on and the AT-AT attack scene was playing, so it's technically my very first impression of Star Wars, which may be why the vehicle means so much to me.

    This set does have flaws that were not apparent before this review and discussion in this level of detail. I'm finding Lego level of detail a bit less then desirable. With the talk about the drivers, Luke Skywalker inclusion in this set, and leg stability. Accuracy in a set like this is very important to me. The faces on soldiers is a welcome change up.
    I think when I get the chance to build my first UCS I will change out the driver heads, install 3 axle bushings, and colorswap a lot of the odd colors out.

    Lego should seriously reconsider stickers in an 800 EUR set. That's just ridiculous and competition is increasingly sticker free at lower price points.
    At smaller sets I can get the point of stickers, printed pieces are very expensive and for play sets children are better served when the money goes into pieces instead of prints but for such premium items there are no excuses left.

  • @kleinemonnik

    I bought it this weekend, and am still building it. It's my first UCS-set. I really like the build, the fact that it is minifig-scale (for me a reason why I don't get most UCS-sets) and the fact that I can easily make space for it (I don't have space for the Falcon). I also got the 2020 one, and with them together, I can create the illusion of depth on a narrow shelf.
    And yes, I pre-ordered 11 battle packs from a local store that gives 20% discount on the pre-orders of the upcoming snowtrooper battle pack to fill the AT-AT up.

    The AT-AT is my favorite Star Wars vehicle and is the most-likely subject to get me into UCS, but all I can think about is what other Lego sets you can buy for $800. I realize UCS is for "The AFOL Who Has Everything," but I wish the AT-AT was closer to Titanic price (what a crazy time to be alive).

    • @danielq_4
      @danielq_4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it depends on what kind of LEGO person you are. I personally am building my “near minifig scale” collection so I’d rather have this than the playset AT-AT.

      Like you, I have an affinity with the AT AT and chicken walker. I want this set but it’s not worth the asking price. I got the smaller at at last year and modded it. I would suggest that the better use of cash. This one is big, but is it clever? To buy one.

    Do I see black 2L axles in the ankles?! Did Lego just prove that they are both willing AND perfectly able to produce Technic pieces in non-gaudy colors in order to not ruin the looks of a model?
    Then why, oh why, did they stop halfway there and still built the interior of the legs and the underbelly AND EVEN _VISIBLE_ PARTS OF THE ARMOR PLATES in all colors of the rainbow and then some?!
    I was really impressed, though, when you opened it up and it had an actual interior, filled with seats and some other details. I did not expect that at all. Crazy that it doesn't need all that space for structural support.

    • @veryblocky

    I think ultimately Lego just isn't something I would ever spend this much on, like sure it's a cool model of a fan-favorite vehicle but at this price and size the UCS lines kinda just reached insane unrealistic levels, feels like Lego REALLY stretching how far people will spend on they're funny little toy bricks.

    Like the UCS Star Destroyer and UCS Millennium Falcon (both of which I have built and still have) this is a display model. The Falcon is perhaps the "flimsiest" LEGO set that I have ever built, but I still love it. This AT-AT reminds me of that - for show, not for go. Expensive, yes. Awesome, definitely. Glad I have it in my collection. Great review as always JANG. Thorough, complete and honest.

    @Jang regarding the green sleeves. I had a chance to sit down with Henrik (the designer) at the LEGO fan Christmas Dinner in Billund. He addressed this, and this was done completely on purpose for structure. the piece CAN be taken apart, he passed out some examples to each of the tables and let people take them apart. This wasn't a mistake and the effort to take apart was in consideration. Obviously, this set was designed for adults on display, so the difficult-to-take apart piece was discussed and approved by the design, marketing, product, and engineering teams. In fact, most of us at the table were eventually able to take them apart.

      Thanks for sharing this. This actually makes the whole thing more bizarre to me though. Why not use a 3x half-bushing or 1x bushing + 1x half bushing solution instead? I'm sure there are other design options as well that tick every necessary box. Disassembly of a set should never require direct instruction from a LEGO senior designer or the use of out-of-system techniques like bending parts that aren't supposed to be bent. As I briefly demonstrated and more extensively experienced behind the scenes, other parts of the leg assemblies are weaker and fail under stress before the inner shoulders with the green sleeves omitted.
      [Edit: A bit of extra context. I have disassembled the exact "impossible" assembly from this kit without my bare hands, and I feel it's significantly trickier than should be expected. With a tool or allowance for slight damage to the (cheap, common) axle it'd of course be easier. I've done far, far trickier "impossible" disassemblies in the past including some of the classics of the early aughts and some pretty silly shortcuts to edit models in place without hours of proper disassembly & re-assembly. I respect and openly laud the strength designed into official LEGO sets far more than most folks I see. This here, though, seems like an unnecessary complication and circumvention of standards. I believe there are times when even folks who are the best in the world at what they do can make decisions or reach conclusions that are not absolutely perfect.]

      yeah, if the designer had used a 4L without the stopper it would've actually been impossible to remove the piece but the stopper means you can wedge a knife or nails in it. frankly too much hay has been made over the stopper and the diversity of the figures
