The Kirby franchise has exactly two gears: adorable romp and cosmic horror. There is very little in-between.
That's because Kirby himself is both of those things. He's an adorable little guy who you just wanna squish and hug, but he's also a terrifying entity of great power if you think about what his powers actually mean lol. He will literally always be able to beat you if he swallows you

I love Planet Robobot with a passion but dear lord is it *dark.* There are certain forces in this series that are insanely powerful, primal even. Two of the most important are the power of emotions and the power of someone or something's soul. The fact StarDream OS forcefully ripped Holtmann's soul is a fate far, far worse than death. Your soul is what makes you, well you.

The beautiful thing about Kirby lore is that it gets so dark and intense, in almost every game, and constantly gets more complex with each release. But through all of it, there is one bright soul who could not care less about the lore or it's dark implications: Kirby himself, who just wants to sleep, eat, and play his days away with his friends.
Kirby is about the power of joy and friendship being greater than any dark or cruel forces. Before monsters and demons, before devestation and destruction, Kirby stands defiant of the horror. Because he knows he can make it better.

Kirdy goes from 'Happy Fun Time Game' to 'Confront Your Nightmares Made Manifest' to 'Cosmic Horror' in a relatively short span of time.
The Kirby universe has already been through what the 40K universe is going through right now. Kirby would kick down the door to Tzeentch's realm, beat him up, take all the food, then leave. All because Tzeentch took his cookies or something.

Kirby's more than happy to share his food with his friends. Also, Kirby's isn't on a quest to feel full, he just really enjoys eating food.

Just a little note about Merryweather because of the beginning: He's only a writer, he makes the stories and writes the lore for some vtuber lore videos and he then hires artists to draw his stories since he himself can't draw and funny story man was literally putting out so many stories at one point that the amount of artist he was commissioning at the same time caused him to just form his own LLC(forgot if it was legal reasons or convenience).
Probably my favorite part of Galacta Knight is how he constantly appeared in non-canon side modes before fusing with the Butterfly to become Morpho Knight, who appeared in a canon fight the game after its introduction (Forgotten Land) which technically brings Galacta Knight into the canon of the games despite never fighting him directly in a canon game. Talk about being dealt a dirty hand

I wouldn't worry too much for Taranza. In Kirby Clash 2, you can find him chilling in a village, admiring the day with a flower. And in the Star Allies menu skits (where sets of allies will appear and interact with one another) Taranza can be spotted trying to chat up with the female allies and becoming friends with the bug allies. So he's moving on, at least a little.
Also the lore can get even more in depth on the characters. For example: I'd highly recommend Designing For's video on The Regal Heart of King DeDeDe - Designing for Kindness.

Fun fact about Kirby, his name actually came from the name of a Lawyer, John Kirby, that saved Nintendo when they were sued by Universal in the 80s, over them using the word Kong for Donkey Kong, which they claimed ownership over due to them owning the rights to King Kong.

I think the wheel was a twisted version of the Friend Circle attack that you can do at certain points in the game.

That is an excellent theory. Morpho Knight (the butterfly) makes a return in Forgotten Land in a legitimate canon fashion, as far as I am aware, and proceeds to absorb the remnants of an entity that can travel dimensions. So that is a pretty fair assumption.
So the thing is, kirby didn't always have lore like this, it had implications of lore with the dark matter trilogy, but the lore started happening a lot more when kirby superstar ultra showed up, there was a new creative director from there on, and ever since then the pause screens had a lot of lore in them. And he started looking back at past kirby adversaries and started to tie them all together into a bunch of interconnected origins. It's pretty cool when you get into it.

And he's an artist too, and if ya look at his gallery, that's where you realize why, ever since Canvas Curse and SSU, the last bosses have such a big contrast to the rest of the character designs. A good kind of contrast.
This one is older one from 4 years ago - creator of the video last year actually made a FOLLOW UP video called "Attempting to explain MORE Kirby Lore in one video" which covers even more lore bombs dropped in recent Kirby games, especially "Kirby and The Forgotten Lands".

If you wanted a little more depth in the lore per-game, I can highly recommend the WoolieVS' Kirby Lore series. He also did an officially sponsored, by ArcSys, complete timeline video series of Guilty Gear's story across the games.
I like kirby has "what if" games and modes. I've always loved those types of scenarios in many media. One of my favorites was the "what if" in the first danganronpa game.

I’ve been playing Kirby games my whole life. Squeak Squad is one of my all-time favorites. It’s fantastic.
It’s fucking wild how hard Kirby lore goes and how deep it gets
ah you have discovered that kirby has lore, indeed the black hole of kirby lore is large and surprisingly dark for a cute fluffy game
I just want to mention for Amazing Mirror... Kirby was split into 4 Kirbys at the beginning of the game... But doesn't reform back into one Kirby at all in the end of that game. Like no joke there's basically just 3 other Kirbys hanging around in Kirby's world. They help sometimes or play mini games with the original Kirby or at least that's what I assume is happening when you can play as multiple Kirbys in other games and the mini games. But they are just there. XD
As many people said this video is a bit outdated and many games have released since. He made a follow up: "Attempting to explain more Kirby Lore" that was released after Kirby and the Forgotten Land released in 2022.

Just letting you know, The RPG Monger made a follow-up video to this one called "Attempting to Explain More Kirby Lore in a Single Video".
That video expands on the lore a bit more due to new releases, as well as corrects some mistakes he made in this video.
I highly recommend it, as Kirby lore somehow gets even more wild.

Brooooooo I just realized something big for kirby lore. At 9:09, Shiver Star is thought to be a post-apocalyptic earth. However if we look at the release dates for the game and the kirby tv show "Right Back at Ya" You'll see that Crystal Shards came out on 2000, but the show came out on 2001. Therefore I think that Shiver Star is really just Earth in its Ice Age and Crystal Shards is millions of years ago.

4:57: The one that is shown on the screen is Kirby: Super Star Ultra, released in the year 2008, which is a remake of Kirby: Super Star, that came out in 1996. However, the first Kirby game that came out was Kirby's Dream Land in 1992.
One thing I like about the Kirby games is the drastic gap in stakes like how he goes from just fighting of a minor robot invasion to killing the purest form of chaos to a deer rat fox thing like it’s honestly amazing how most games start cause someone interrupted his nap or took his cake

Seriously if you love Kirby style games mixed with fighting games then that review will make your life so much more full, it will expand your mind and inflate your enthusiasm for more of his game reviews.

Basically, Adeline is (supposedly) to be one of the last remaining humans in Kirby's lore and Shiver Star is (supposedly) Earth but stuck in a permanent ice age where all the inhabitants are dead but the factories and machines are still functioning.
She only appears in Kirby 64 but I don't know if she makes a cameo in future games. (except for Star Allies, which is basically the Kirby Avengers)
Now we just need Alicia to react to the updated lore of Kirby :)

It makes me super happy to see you be open minded enough to watch this, and of course always enjoy how you digest information and give your own take on things!! Especially with kirby lore which I've heard many including myself having been confused about it at some point, but this guy's video really helped organize all the lore nicely enough so that even you were able to follow along ^^
(Found it funny that by the happy ending of star allies you finally got some wholesome lore, when at surface level before all this you'd never imagine these Kirby games to be so dark lol)
It’s a pretty succinct summary of the big points in Kirby lore pre-Forgotten Land/Super Kirby Clash. And very well written. Glad to see your interest!
Really the only thing to note is that the whole “Kirby = positive Void” idea is JUST a theory.
This is because Void’s positive and negative energy influences come externally. In other words, it can be said that Void having Kirby’s face is because Kirby’s positive influence makes Void look like Kirby, NOT because Void is actually a Kirby.
Especially since Meta Knight is basically a Kirby, and the same can probably be said for Galacta Knight. Plus if Kirby was pure positive energy, he’d be more like Gooey; Kirby can get sad, angry, vengeful, etc… not very “pure” like Dark Matter.
And one more thing. Ever since Star Allies, the fandom’s been rather strict on English localization, and making sure the info comes from the Japanese descriptions. Some of our Moogle friend’s info suffers due to the English localization issue, but it’s still correct on the whole.

Kirby Squeak squad was my second kirby game and probably my favourite of them all. My first one was technically Kirby's Dream Land, since I got it alongside my OG GameBoy back then, but Squeak Squad was the one I played the most! I used to do all the mini-game shit with my cousin back then, cause he had the game too and local co-op was sick as hell!
God this video is bringing back so many good memories!
I played Squeak Squad way back when and it was a really fun game! And yes, Kirby lore goes so hard, it's truly insane, it even has its own fanfiction in the form of the What If game modes.

Fun fact about computers, deleting something doesn’t actually remove it from the computer. The space it occupies on the hard drive is marked as empty space, but the actual information still exists, at least until the computer writes something else to that space.
However, if the device itself is physically destroyed, then the data is most likely gone forever.
I’d think this comes out of nowhere, but I’d have to say I recommend Wendigoon’s video on Faith The Unholy Trinity, covering the story and secrets and creating a comprehensive story.
It’s a long video and Faith TUT may be over-recommended, but honestly the story was incredibly interesting to see evolve and unravel, and Wendigoon covered everything well and pieced information together that helped me learn more about the story that really stuck with me and how the creator put some personal bits into his creation.
And if you don’t react to it, then at least check out the video and/or game whenever you’re free to do so. If you haven’t seen anything about it, then I’d consider it a treat to watch.
The jump from Kirby's dreamland, being a fun, cute puffball of pink, to fighting the literal embodiment of nightmares and fear in Kirby dreamland 3 took my knees out
Not only did I play Squeak Squad, that was probably the first game that I 100% completed.
Also, for some more lore that was added after the video was uploaded, Morpho Knight is effectively the Angel of Death in the Kirby world. And, according to the Morpho Knight Sword ability in Forgotten Land, his power is one that Kirby can wield "effortlessly". Also, after Magalor was defeated in Return to Dream Land, he literally went to purgatory and had to fight an evil tree to return to the rest of the Kirby world, where he would proceed to build theme parks to atone for his attempts at world domination.
This is why Kirby fans have trust issues

The best way to describe kirby is that he is basically majin boo, except he is pure innocent and happy and cuteness.
Nothing like the moments when people realize just how deep the Kirby rabbit-hole goes beyond a little pink Poyo-ball. :D
Plus since Star Allies was the latest game at the point of that particular video, it only got crazier from there, there's been...what, 5 games since then to further make the lore even crazier? Even Morpho Knight finally got explained...I think.

I remember getting an og Gameboy game as a hand-me-down, was "Kirby Tilt and Tumble" an actual game? I could swear I had it as a kid, and you played it by tilting your Gameboy to make Kirby roll around a ball maze puzzle.
