The ways the game rigs things in your favor are incredibly fascinating to me. I knew about the coin, anyone who has played peggle long enough will notice that the odds are in your favor, but i had never heard of microzen or the spooky zen before. Both of these paint a picture of a very specific game design philosophy of prioritizing "fun" over telling the truth to the player. Techniques like these are not value neutral, i know games like candy crush or fortnite have systems to either manufacture insane combos or fill up lobbies with easy bot players to get you to experience the highs of the game to make it more likely that you'll get addicted to them, but in peggle deluxe, a game that you purchase once and that the devs don't make any money off of you continuing to play it, i think they're really just there to make the experience smoother and more satisfying. What's especially funny about the coin to me is that, to my knowledge, the game never explicitly tells you that there's a 50/50 chance of getting a free ball. It just uses the visual of a spinning coin with the options on either side to VERY strongly imply it using associations. Fantastic video, by the way. Very well put together. I was surprised to see how small your channel is. Excited to see what you make next.
You make a good point. This kind of behind the scenes rigging feels a lot less malicious when you can tell it was just to make the game more satisfying, not as a manipulation tactic to increase play time
I love how features like this are meant to fly under the radar too; its a lot of work to subtly make the player have more fun. It'd take something away from it if you knew the game was helping you. (i just realized the video says more or less this at 39:12)
Bot lobbies in battle royales are tutorial levels, not any of this bullshit about trying to get you addicted. They get you addicted by adding all of your faveorite songs, characters, emotes. Having battle passes that require weekly challeneges to complete. Bot lobbies get you used to the game.

I think the reason you can aim higher with fireball is because you would otherwise have situations where getting fireball may cause you to lose. Since pegs can spawn higher than you can aim (I think), you normally have to bounce the ball off another peg to hit the higher ones. If, however, your ball cannot bounce off of pegs, then you cannot hit those higher pegs with it. It would feel bad for a power-up to mean you can no longer get certain pegs until the power wears off.

Wait, you sure magic hat doesn't affect physics?? I've played peggle nights a lot and noticed that with the hat on, the ball tends to have weird physics. One such case is in Renfield's level themed around weird drooping clocks. If you play as Warren, and aim fully at the top right corner, then depending on whether or not your ball has magic hat, it hits different pegs. This is what I remember at least As for the video, such a good one to watch, and even learned a lot of facts like how zen works and the hidden character dialogue, definitely giving a like!
This is a crazy video to randomly come out for me right now. I just purchased both peggle and peggle nights on the steam sale after having not played through them since childhood, I used to play through pirated copies of the games on an old laptop that was given to me by my brother. I found myself kind of sad as I finished peggle nights only to realize the game never really got another sequel. Peggle 2 is only available on xbox, and I certainly don't consider the mobile game a true sequel. This video was great, and I'm glad it got recommended to me randomly by youtube.

You had a lot of SLICK replays. There was so much in here that I didn't know about Peggle. Even though this video was an hour long, it was dense with information. That's seriously impressive. Absolutely great video!
About that music: I remember seeing something a few years back about how to get it to play. There's something you can do (if I remember correctly it involves loading replays) that increments the music played - instead of choosing a track randomly, it selects the next one in the list. If you do it enough times, you can get the usually-not-hearable track to play. I have tried searching for this but cannot find it for the life of me.
I have never played Peggle. I have barely heard of Peggle prior to today. But I WILL watch this entire video, and I WILL become a Peggle fan thanks to it.
As someone who loves Peggle, I had no idea that there where so many secrets. Also, thanks for explaining "crumble pegs." I was so confused as to why sometimes the game would wait for my ball to get stuck and do a full screen clear, while other times, juts say f it, and remove 1 or 2 pegs while the ball was still in motion.
I hyperfixated on Peggle for at least 2 months back in 2021 and I considered myself to know a lot about the game. This video is proof that in fact, I am a fraud and I need to turn in my Peggling license. Amazing video by the way. I love this game series to death.
Ive never played peggle in my life, but this was an instant subscription for me. I LOVE videos like this, so much attention to detail and care for every aspect of a game. A thorough demonstration of why this game is great, thank you
One thing not mentioned in this video is that for Renfield's Spooky Ball, if you hit just one green peg in a shot, you get the first and second quarters of the first measure of Toccata & Fugue in D Minor, one quarter on peg hit and one on screen wrap. However, if you hit both green pegs in the same shot, you'll get all four parts of the measure, hearing the bass note on the organ kicking in. It can occur either if you hit both green pegs before screen wrapping or if you hit one peg, screen wrap, and hit the other.
As someone who spent the last 10ish years watching 2 guys playing Peggle weekly in countless tournaments, the biggest two secrect of the game still remains: what happened at Campovolo between Vasco Rossi and Luciano Ligabue and, most importantly what happened to the fortune of Angelina Jolie and Bred Pitt after their divorce (eh.. having all that money solely in two...). Finally I know, now what the purple does, but I'll forget it in like 20 minutes between an "ngul a mammita" or a "Cristina D'Avena in concerto"and another
"Just a bunch of characters playing air hockey in an open field trying to sell you a certificate for a game a unicorn made up"
Simple, yet beautiful
The titles on the dialogue boxes remind me of the subject lines on emails, like you're receiving formal correspondence from each of the peggle masters
Props for the dxBallProfilepicture. Brings Back memories:)

Holy cow this is underrated. Absolutely incredible video man
what a lovely little video. Thank you for blessing my feed
Very high quality video, underrated
Ill be honest i thought this was a greyfruit video, but you still have my attention sir
thank you so much, ive been looking for an in depth peggle video like this for ages. this is my favorite youtube video period
TH-cam recommendations going hard wtf. I cannot fathom how this video felt like a 10 minute romp but was actually 54 minutes long.
I have never played Peggle. I have barely heard of Peggle prior to today. But I WILL watch this entire video, and I WILL become a Peggle fan thanks to it.
6:58 in peggle nights, they also added another bonus if the ball is picked up directly without bouncing off the pyramid
Im around 15 mins into the vid, but I love your style of going on tangents then coming back to the main topic lol
"Everything you ever wanted to know about X game and more"-type videos my beloved
fantastic video, cant believe theres so much i didnt know about even after 100%
Very fun way to present the game, think back on it, and appreciate it.
I think it's also cool to point out that Warrens eyes also turn Ying Yang when he gets a zen ball
Right?? It's something I remember very clearly playing this game as a child
never heard of this game, and yet you kept my attention for 50 minutes. bravo Vince.
Great video! Didnt think an hour video on peggle would be so engaging!
Congratulations on 1k subs!
This game and your footage of the game are both cracked out of their mind
Amazing video, I didn't expect for Peggle to have that many details.
Makes me wonder how many secrets are there in the more obscure PopCap games
I hyperfixated on Peggle for at least 2 months back in 2021 and I considered myself to know a lot about the game. This video is proof that in fact, I am a fraud and I need to turn in my Peggling license. Amazing video by the way. I love this game series to death.
Ive never played peggle in my life, but this was an instant subscription for me. I LOVE videos like this, so much attention to detail and care for every aspect of a game. A thorough demonstration of why this game is great, thank you
I've never been so happy to be recommended a video in my entire life
I used to play peggle / peggle nights with my dad when I was a kid. I loved it. This made me so much happier that I used to play it so much! Love this
You kind of remind me of Oliver Lugg's channel. Math person making deep dive engaging videos with a calm voice. Very enjoyable. Thank you.
Im surprised that the beloved Peggle spinoff "Peggle Dinners" was never mentioned in this video. Great video otherwise!
we're gonna starve
I don't have an hour right now to watch this. But I watched the first minute and a half and know when I get to it, this will be good.
Absolutely underrated video.
Nice to see this video is astronomically more views then your math videos. Society hasn’t gone down the drain yet.
Glad this video is popping off with the algorithm and excited to check out your other ones, they look good!
