    Milwaukee 2746-20 M18 Fuel 18-Gauge Brad Nailer
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
The earlier Gen 1 tool had several negative user feedback issues, that resulted in a complete “Back To The Drawing Board,” approach.
    Gen 1 User Feedback:
    • Double-Strike mark
    • Oversized holes in the material
    • Bulky nose that inhibited sight lines
    • Excessive recoil
    • Inconsistent toe-nailing result
    Gen 2 Improvements
The earlier Gen 1 nailer was powerful which resulted in too much recoil.
Milwaukee reduced the energy output [PSI in the tank]
Which results in less wear and tear on the tool, less jumping off the material [smaller fastener hole] and less recoil.
The Gen I depth adjustment interfered with the user line of sight.
Milwaukee moved the depth adjustment from the left side of the tool to the right side.
The Gen 1 nailer had a bulky nose, which made it difficult to get into corners.
Milwaukee significantly reduced the weight by 1-pound, and size of the Gen 2 nailer,
making it more compact, lighter, better accessible and improved line of sight.
The also improved the nailers toe-nailing ability.
Milwaukee improved the contact bracket by reducing this play, or wobble, improving fastener placement accuracy.
The battery orientation was angled allowing the tool to sit on its battery pack and magazine.
The reversible belt hook was relocated the front / bottom / battery area of the tool and enlarged to allow better balance, and hooking onto tool belts.
Milwaukee found that by reducing the PSI in the cylinder tank the tool drew less energy from the 2.0 Ah battery which resulted in an increase in runtime.
Gen 1 experienced 1200 fasteners on a 2.0 h battery charge and was improved to 1500 fasteners in the Gen 2.
Gen 1 would hit the thermal protection at approximately 100-150 nails when fired at a fast rate continuously.
The Gen 2 tool won’t hit a thermal protection until between 700-2000 continuous nails, depending on how fast your firing. [i.e. 3-4 nails/second continuously vs 1 nail/second continuously.]
The Gen 1 tool requires you hold the power switch button down for 5-7 seconds to turn off the tool.
On the Gen 2 turning the unit off requires depressing the switch for 2-seconds. Which is WAY better.
Since the Gen 2 came out we've been using it.
We’ve had zero performance issues with the brad nailer - Did we get this review right?
Hell yes we did! It’s a keeper!

These long term follow up videos are great. I gone through some tools that seemed good in the beginning but after a few months/weeks of use they end up sitting in the garage and basically money that was intended to make a task easier and quicker was wasted. Nothing like using a tool for a few weeks or months to really get a feel for it, good or bad.

I had the gen one and my biggest issue with it was inconsistent depth of drive. To often it did not sink the brad beneath the surface no matter what depth I adjusted it too. I sent it in for service with Milwaukee and they could not correct the problem. I eventually sold it to a man who is new to the trade. I told him about its flaws but a flawed nail gun is still better than none, plus I sold it for a very cheap price. I then got the hitachi and it's better but it has issues also. Now I own the gen 2 Milwaukee and it's perfect! I could not be happier with it.

It's always time well-spent on your videos, Rob. Thanks again.
I too have no regrets with my choice of 18v brad-nailer; except, mine is the original Hitachi (which is still on Gen 1 under Metabo HPT, never requiring all those improvements in function or design that the Milwaukee did).
I didn't choose it because I already had Hitachi 18v batteries and tools. (I had zero Hitachi battery-powered tools at the time, but lots of Milwaukee batteries and tools.)
I chose it because of Hitachi's unrivaled reputation of excellence in pneumatic guns, in addition to their good reputation in battery-power technology, and my decision has paid off as it did with all my Hitachi pneumatic guns.
The Milwaukee framer is very tempting, though; too bad Metabo HPT hasn't produced an extended mag for theirs.

Last year I purchased a pneumatic kit that included a 18 GA. brad nailer, a 16 GA. finish nailer, a 3/8" stapler, and a 6 gallon compressor. I used the nail guns to reinstall baseboards and door trim that were removed when we installed wood floors. I liked the light weight of the guns, but having had major neck surgery in 2012 and being unable to move my head more than a few degrees in any direction, I didn't like the power cord and air hose. Since I couldn't turn my head or look down to see where they were, I was constantly bending over or turning 180° to see if they were clear of my feet to avoid tripping, but I still tripped and nearly fell quite a few times. This would eliminate those obstacles and make my work environment so much safer. Being on the Milwaukee platform, I have wanted their 2nd gen 18 GA. brad nailer since it came out, but I wanted to wait until it was time tested. Thanks Rob for this follow-up review, it has made me want this even more. Now I just need to find a way to pay for it, S.S. disability barely helps pay the bills.

I got tired of the tank and hose, and went with the Milwaukee M18. It's been a great tool that's super easy to use, with no issues to report. I am running the CP 3.0 batteries on mine just to make it less bulky, and more balanced.

Thanks for this review. New is great but I look for long term reliability. It doesn't pay for itself if I have to fix it all the time. Just bought the gen 2 brad nailer a few weeks ago. First thing I did was try sinking 2" brads into a 2x4 on edge and it would not sink them flush with the board - always proud. When I adjusted the depth wheel all the way down, it would not fire at all. Had to back off a few clicks. Exchanged it at HD for another version and pretty much the same thing. Nevertheless, decided to keep it as I don't shoot 2" brads into solid wood that often, plus it came with a free 8 amp HD battery which I didn't want to give up. What I find is that to get consistent recessed holes, I have to make sure I push down hard on the nose. If I don't apply enough pressure, it will sometimes leave the brad proud. Otherwise, works great. Basically, would give it 4 stars out of 5.

I’ve had this nailer for about a month, and I’ve used it for installing quarter round. The one issue that I have had, is it doesn’t dry fire lockout sometimes. If I have like five nails left, it keeps firing and just making holes. It’s not a dealbreaker, because I don’t do high end work, but it is annoying!

Taken each one back to Home Depot and swapped it out for a new one and all three failed during a job for the same issue I assume

My dewalt is consistantly "skipping". The driver skips off the head of the brad. It leaves a double strike and leaves the head proud of the surface. I've read and heard many similar reports of this happening to the dewalt over time (a short period of time IMO). I recently bought the Hitachi/Metabo. Having good luck soo far. Also have a green, battery operated pinner and 30 deg framer (LOVE THIS GUN)

Hi rob I currently use a paslode for finishings here in 🇬🇧 as I tried the dewalt 18g brad nailer and it struggled with nailing American white oak! How does the milwaukee gen 2 fair when working with hardwoods?

Love mine I just have issues with nails sometimes. We use a brand really popular in the uk which Is a knock off paslode (firm ahold) for some reason it can sometimes really struggle with loading the nails and It won’t take 50mm nails. Just wondering if anyone else has any issues with it?

Hey Bradley. I have a similar issue. With mine. What happens is I will fire the gun and It won’t shoot the nail, so I have to open it up and get the loose nail out. Then it will fire a nail once that one is cleared from the clip. then same issue occurs after a few nails. I don’t know if it’s the brand of nails I’m using that are garbage or what’s the problem?

@@ConcordCarpenter I purchased this tool 18 months ago after watching your video. It paid for itself after the first job. I'm a finish carpenter and It's a fantastic tool. It holds up well but my no mar pads are heavily worn and I need new ones to keep from marring up all of that pretty trim work. I hope Milwaukee is listening. Thank you kindly.

How come they can’t use the double trigger safety like with the 23g pinner instead of the nose piece safety..?

Hey Rob, what advantage does the 3ah ho add to the nailer compared to a 2ah?

  • @0verboosted

Rob do you use it for fastening casing to doors? I've heard you should move to a finishing nailer (16ga) for that but do Brad's work well enough?
