Touch lamp not working repair.

  • If your touch lamp stopped working and the 3-way dimmer sensor switch is not responding to the touch, you can easily replace the dimmer module yourself. Even if your touch lamp won’t turn off, the most likely problem is the dimmer sensor. The dimmer switch replacement should fix it. I’ll show you how to identify wires in your lamp and repair it by using the wiring diagram.

    If you are planning to use LED bulbs, make sure the new touch dimmer sensor is Compatible with LEDs... mine is not.

    Good job. Nice touch on the wire nut test. Wire nuts not hard to use but doing the pull test on each one insures one has a correct install. 👍

    Nice instruction. Splicing in the yellow wire instead of struggling to get it loose from the lamp was very smart. Years ago, I had a touch control that had 4 light settings, along with Off. It lasted 15-years, and was a THOMAS & BETTS/CARLON model AR135D. It's no longer manufactured, and is the only one like it I have ever seen.

    Thank you so much I didn't think that I was able to fix it considering there was 3 black wires, 3 white wires, and 1 yellow but after watching your video and followed the connection just adding the extra wires to each connection and it worked. It took me 2 months to find the right sensor switch but it got done and I am very thankful

    I had tried following the instructions on a different TH-cam video. I thought I followed them but my lamp has more wires than the three wires your video shows. Unfortunately, the circuit breaker popped and I blew out the dimmer sensor. Drove to Lowe's and purchased a new dimmer. The new dimmer was identical tp the one you had in your video. I wired as instructed and the touch lamp is now working perfectly.
    Thanks to your helpful video.

    Nice video, thanks. My mom's lamp stopped responding to touch. It just stays on maximum brightness, so she needs to unplug it or unscrew bulbs to turn it off. I did replace them with LED bulbs. I'm not sure how motivated I am to replace the sensor to see if that solves the problem, but it's good to know I have that option if I decide to try it.

    Excellent video! I just found a blown fuse on the circuit board on mine. I’m going to change it , and I think that should hopefully fix it 😊

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A blown fuse could mean something is shorted on the electronic board. So, the replaced fuse may blow again.
      Or the original fuse was too weak, and a new fuse will fix the problem... Good luck!

      @@Your-Self yes you are right. We recently had a really bad power surge, where it really affected several fixtures and appliances. I’m hoping that was the main reason for blown fuse. I will have more than one fuse, Incase it blows again then I know it’s one of the components. Thanks for your advice

    I have a portable luminaire floor lamp ( about 6 feet in height) with a basket type top which uses R7 300 watt 120v halogen bulb( the slender long one). The off and on button on the lamp was not lighting the lamp so I thought replacing the bulb may work but still not working. All the wires seem OK. What should I do? Your reply is appreciated.

    Any advice on how to actually diagnose and repair the circuit board on the existing module? I find most of the replacement modules are absolute junk and either don't work as well as the original or burn out soonafter replacement. I'd like to be able to replace bad parts on the component level.

    Followed instructions on this video but circuit popped and no longer works. I realized that the model I have, the brown/red goes with the the other 2 wires to make the 3 wires together. Is there any way of using this without the touch function? Can I still use it without buying another one?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's best to follow the wiring diagram that came with your device because all wire colors are different. If it's popped, it's probably gone.
      You can bypass the touch sensor, but you won't have the ability to turn it ON or OFF at the lamp. You'd have to physically plug it into the outlet or unplug it to turn it off.
      If you have 2 (black and white) wires coming out of the lamp, connect the White (neutral) wire to the Ribbed Black wire from the cord. And the other Black wire goes to the Smooth Black wire on the cord.

      Another option for turning your lamp off and on is to buy a remote control outlet. That's what I've been using since my sensor lamp stopped sensing, but after watching this fabulous video, I"ll now buy a new sensor and repair it.

    Hi- I just got a new touch lamp, and it's working fine…or at least it WAS until i allowed my curiosity to let me test out whether the capacitative touch function can work w/ a coat of nail polish over it. It was still turning on & off, then I guess when the polish cured a minute or so later, I could no longer activate the lamp. 🫤
    I tried wiping the nail polish off w/ some acetone remover, and maybe I didn’t get all of it, but it’s still not working.
    I didn’t damage my lamp, did I? Please instruct me on what I can do to fix this. THANK YOU! 🙏
    (BTW, I was painting it because I wanted to camouflage the color. I’d covered the rest of the white plastic base (very cheap-looking) w/ copper tape, but had to leave the touch control exposed. I was excited for about a minute when I thought that my hack would work, and now I’m sitting here w/ a brand new lamp that doesn’t turn on. 😢)

      @@ArielNajarro You also have nail polish residue on yours? I tried mine again later, and was able to activate the touch lamp again! 😅
      Try dabbing on nail polish remover again (test in a more inconspicuous spot that it doesn’t melt/damage the plastic), and see if that helps.
      I have no idea why TIME “fixed” the issue, but I hope that happens for you, too. 🙏

      One of those black wires should be ribbed, and the other should be smooth. Treat that black ribbed wire as a white neutral wire.

Just tried to do what you did in the video the first one popped and the little box had a burning smell... Just did it correctly with a new box and no short.... But not turning on at all either...
