Yes but you have to touch the metal part. For example the frame holding the shade. My parents had a porcelain base lamp when I was growning up that had touch capabilities.
Thanks (old post) but relevant information. I installed a westec into a floor lamp, having trouble, not enough space for module due to counterweighted base.
I just cracked the counterweight into a couple pieces with a hammer then JB welded the 2-3 pieces inside the base leaving room for the module & connector’s. On another lamp I took out the weight and shaved off some with my grinder to fit the module.
I’ve got some dimmable lamps. My wife and I don’t care for the order of brightness. Ie: from the off position… upon touch the metal to initiate power… the lamp starts off in its lowest setting; then gets brighter with each tap until it cycles back to the off position. We’d like it to cycle backwards. As in, the lamp starts in its brightest setting and then dims downward with each tap. We have a new born… the light coming on full strength is a bit jarring to everyone, not just the baby.
I need to know which wire goes to which connection. When you say connect this wire to the neutral wire, ???????? I flunked out of electrician school thanks. If it looks like it matches up, hook it up. I've been there and done that. I've used two boxes so far with matching up. Looking good ain't working for me. I need to know which wire hooks to which wire.
The touching of the lamp grounds the circuit allowing the light to turn on. By painting the lamp it will not allow the connection to be completed. Maybe you could leave a section of the lamp unpainted?
Hi there, great video! So, when I was little we had a few touch lamp planters ("Planterns") that had this sort of wiring, but, the lamp post is in the middle of a potted plant! Whenver we touch the plant or the soil, the light would either dim or turn on/off. Can you PLEASE do a demonstration of how to DIY this using a similar setup! I can't find one for purchase anywhere! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
What happens if one of the wires in the base of the lamp becomes loose and touches the metallic surface, making it live? In the UK we have to connect metal parts to Ground if they are used to enclose live connections. What are the rules in the U.S.?
I tried doing this on our floor standing lamp. The stands and the shelves are all metal. Touching the metal ring attached to that little black box turns the lamp on and off etc. But attaching this ring to the lamp stands does nothing unfortunately.
I installed a touch module to my 3-way lamp and have no light yet. When I turn the switch there is no off for some reason because my power detector pen stays lit as I touch the lamp with it. Any thoughts anyone 🤔
The best (sometimes the only) way to find which wire is neutral is that the neutral insulation has a little ridge on it NOT by finding "writing". Also, fluorescent will not work. Get the hot / neutral wrong and you fry your control switch.
Thank-you for the video, I have a touch lamp and the sensor went out. Payed a trip to Home Depot, picked up a new sensor and installed. Lamp working like new.
I have a custom Bare metal base, and I’m thinking of painting it with hammered finish spray paint. Probably 2 coats, and maybe one clear coat. Dose anyone know if the 3 way dimmer will still operate with the base Being painted? Or will this make it, non-conducive to human touch?
I think you'll need an exposed metal part to act as the switch. I think it works on a change in capacitance though so maybe it might work because the paint may have a small amount of conductivity that the switch will be sensitive enough to detect. Best bet would be to give it a go and find out
I still have a yellow wire out of the unit I just purchased, all of the other wires are connected but there isn't any wire to connect to the yellow wire???
The yellow wire is the signal wire (switch).Just attach it to the metal base.I added this to a cabinet light .Just spliced a longer wire and attached it to a metal hinge
The squirrel made it so much better. Thanks for the video!
I forgot about him. Thanks for watching!
Does this work on a ceramic or wood base? The video says ANY lamp so I wasn’t sure
Yes but you have to touch the metal part. For example the frame holding the shade. My parents had a porcelain base lamp when I was growning up that had touch capabilities.
Would this work with wood lamp bases too?
If there was some metal parts to use as the ground.

Those weights do get in the way. Hope you find a better locations.

It says online that the bulb doesn't matter, but i didnt notice any problems until i changed to a different type of bulb...

THat is great idea. I will add it to the idea list. Thanks for watching.

Not sure as to why but pretty much no lamp ever has a ground pin. I believe it might be the double insulated code that allows for this.
I tried doing this on our floor standing lamp. The stands and the shelves are all metal. Touching the metal ring attached to that little black box turns the lamp on and off etc. But attaching this ring to the lamp stands does nothing unfortunately.

maybe the 3 way lamp has a mechaincal switch to change between the 3 settings?

Great tips.
CAN WE INCREASE SENSITIVITY TO IF SOMEONE TOUCHES WITH GLOVES ACTIVATES THE ALARM?
I do not think so. No adjustable settings on unit.
Thanks for making this video. The way you explained it really made sense and now I have my lamp working again.
I am glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
I really wish you had started with a lamp that was NOT already a 3 way lamp
Great Idea for a future video.
Thank-you for the video, I have a touch lamp and the sensor went out. Payed a trip to Home Depot, picked up a new sensor and installed. Lamp working like new.
I love to hear success stories.

Thank you...had to replace the lighting in my china cabinet and this worked great!!
I am glad it helped. I am still amazed at how this product works, just by touch. Thanks for watching.
Is there a way if someone using gloves it be such sensitive to detect touch? The body has electromagnetic field.
?
sir please make a video of reparing of this module
What are you talkin about guys this man explained everything this is the best video how to wire it on the TH-cam
🙌🙌👍👍

Who is doing an existing lamp. That's easy. He claims this with any lamp. No just for replacement. False advertising.
If you watch and listen he says and shows you how to do it on a normal lamp
Wrong! Not any lamp
Main power???? Its the only 120V power
Cap???? Its called a wire nut
And lamps (BULB) needs to be a dimmable lamp
I WOULD HAVE LIKE TO HAVE SEEN A REGULAR LAMP MADE IT INTO A TOUCHABLE DIMMER LAMP.
NOT AN ALREADY TOUCH DIMMER LAMP ..
This was a repair project. But a regular lamp is wired the same way. Thanks for watching.
Why does this guy look like the dude from Active Self Protection
I would love to know more about Active Self Protection and its origin.
Sorry, I can't get pass ugh, ugh
genuis
Thank you. Thanks for watching
