  • My garage door is not working correctly and closing only when I’m holding the control button down. When I release it, the door stops and reverses, and won’t close. The garage light flashes 10 times. How to troubleshoot voltage, and fix garage opener safety sensors if there is no orange and green light on LiftMaster by Chamberlain. If the green light is blinking, align sensors or remove any obstructions.

    Thanks a lot for the video! This is the only place in the universe that states the actual voltage supplied to the photocell circuit.

    Best video I have seen on this subject. Mainly due to the accurate description of the normal voltage that should be seen for this circuit. 6 vdc. Nowhere else did anyone give this spec. Yes the transformer in the unit is 24 vac. That has nothing to do with this safety circuit. Thank you for giving me the answers I looked hours to get. I can finally assume my logic board is Ok.

    Thank you! My door was closing most of the way then reversing. I didn’t realize (or remember, in case I already knew it) about the light flashing code. Mine was flashing ten times, like you mentioned.
    There wasn’t any obvious obstruction between the two door sensors but the green one was flashing intermittently. Turns out that the garage door insulation that I installed years ago was puffing out just enough to be detected by the sensor.
    I pushed it in and problem solved. I’ve added some Tyvek tape to help prevent it from bulging back out again.
    Thanks again for steering me in the right direction!

    • @Your-Self

      If this happens during the day only, the sunlight reflection could be disrupting those sensors.
      If this happens always, try observing sensors while the door is closing. Maybe they start blinking from the vibration and become misaligned.

      Not sure. Maybe you have a safety lock inserted or bent rails?
      You could try disengaging the automatic opener and see if the door opens freely by hand.
      To disconnect the trolley, pull straight down on the emergency rope with a handle.

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try observing the lights (if they start blinking or go dark) while the door is closing. Maybe the rail is warped/loose, so the sensors move during closing and lose contact with each other.

    Does the amber and green light should be visible when door is closed or open? Because ours didnt show but we can open from keypad and hold the keypad to close it.

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, both lights should always be visible. They act as safety sensors for the door, so it doesn't accidentally crush someone. But when you hold the keypad, you basically override the safety sensors, so the door can close while you watch.
      Try to wiggle wires going into those sensors. Maybe it's just a loose connection.

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the door is capable of closing all the way down while you hold the button, the problem comes back to the sensors. Maybe they are slightly misaligned or become misaligned when the door starts to move. Maybe the main control board is going bad. Not sure what else.

    • @pe8954

      Other videos will show you the up/down screws which set how far it travels. Start there but, my issue was resolved by increasing the down force which was a small purple colored dial on my liftmaster. Now my door stops bouncing from 1-2" off the ground and will close all the way

  • @DakillaChi
    @DakillaChi ปีที่แล้ว

    On the wires that go to the sensor each has 2 is one for power and other ? Or what

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These sensors use DC (direct current) voltage. That means one wire is positive and the other is negative to complete the circuit.
      But if you mean 2 wires going to the same terminal, they are the same... either positive or negative. Those wires are very thin. So the installers probably wanted to make them thicker by combining 2 wires together.

    • @DakillaChi
      @DakillaChi ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes so each sensor has 2 thin wires glued together and tie up when entering in back of the overhead motor

    • @DakillaChi
      @DakillaChi ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m getting no light at the sensors but looks like there is power on both and the motor is giving 6v at the top

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have 6 V at both sensors but they don't light up, you probably need to replace the sensors... not the wiring.
