Thanks Seth for exploring my deck idea! Really cool to see where you took it!
Blood tokens were completely unimpressive to me at the beginning, but your takes on them are starting to grow on me.
At this rate they're going to print like five to six more artifact tokens
@@diobrando5896 Yeah. I'm cool with treasures and Clues have been around for long enough, but between Food, Shards, and Blood, there might be too many.
@@lordfaron2694 shard are technically enchantments I believe.
To be fair, this deck was submitted to Seth by a user on mtggoldfish.
It made sense for them to not cast the hammer and try and bait you with the spear because you had one red mana up when they didn’t commit the hammer. The spear is a good play because it may “force” you to bolt (which they don’t know if you have or not) because of lifelink and then they blow you out with the hammer in response to the bolt but once you were completely tapped out and couldn’t bolt it in response it was free real estate.
Classic Seth making plays his not even aware of
I love your videos. One of my best friends introduced me to MTG, and your videos really help explain how a deck is suppose to work, be built, what it’s good against and what it’s not good against. Thanks for the videos!
Glad you enjoy them :)
@@MTGGoldfish Saffron Olive made a Dimir Zombie deck with Necroduality and it’s awesome! Thank you for that too!
I've watched this man play countless shitty opponents, but I've never seen him hate an opponent as much as he hated that amulet titan player. So big props to you InkDontFade, you managed to piss off the Mr Rogers of magic.
Also, loved the deck
Lol, just so it's clear, I didn't hate the opponent, we just had a lot of time to ramble about the Modern banned list while the opponent was doing their thing :)
The Mister Roger's of Magic LOL, this comment is gold!
Well, that deck is beyond broken.
Right?! I report players like that every time I play them on Arena. There seems to be too many...
@@jdubbleyou report them for what? That just seems like a waste of everyone’s time and bad sportsmanship
Gonna be honest: it is SO FUCKING REWARDING to beat those guys with thousands of dollars EDH or modern or standard deck with a deck that cost 100-150 tops
+Troy Cole
Same goes for Against the Odds kind of Decks or some Homebrew Jank - which btw is 100x more fun than to play what's Tier 1
You'd be surprised how angry an Opponent with a Tier 1 Competitive Deck can get in Modern if they're beaten by a Deck full of Cards they have to read
- Cragganwick Cremator Combo
- Kithkin Tribal
- Phyrexian Soulgorger + other Cumulative Upkeep and/or Downside Big Creatures + Solemnity to remove the Downside
All Decks i 4-1'd with in the current Meta
I remember when Seth won 5-0 in a Modern League against Competitive Decks with an Against the Odd Deck focused on "Din of the Fireherd"
That's how Modern is always fun, and i'm glad some Opponents don't get salty but enjoy the Show
Prost & Cheers from the Snow-Covered Bavarian Alpss
EDH power level is not about price tho, you can build non cedh decks for dirt cheap
As someone who has both kinds of decks - I love getting wrecked by budget 8-whack/burn decks. It's the reason Modern is so awesome!
I think you would've been better siding out more statuettes. You basically never cast them and having three points of burn in hand always would've been better
Anything that lets me play Unlicensed Disintegration again. I miss that card :D
Can’t forget Galvanic Blast, but I didn’t even know about Shrapnel Blast-what a sweet deck!
Every time we go to Innistrad, I notice there’s some form of incidental artifact gain, but I’ve never actually sat down to build a deck that exploits it, so this one was really cool to watch.
Creative and a solution to one of the most annoying things: building a modern deck without selling both legs and your arm to afford one shock land. The main challenge is doing the burn thing over and over again but with the prizes you win you can either upgrade it or start building a new deck so it's win-win.
thats how I built my modern decks I have today... winning in 2013 with burning-tree emissary, ghor-clan rampager, and rancor in a gruul stompy deck no more than $50
Aren't shocks like 5-8 dollars?
8 Whack/12 Whack is another great deck for starting with to try to win your way into more expensive builds.
@@maartenn2217 It looks like most Shocks are around $10-15 depending on the version, with some reaching $20, but you have to play a full playset for consistency reasons
It's not really too bad, but for some decks having effective mana costs more than the spells themselves
Sad to hear that both of your legs and an arm are only worth under $20.
24:46 You had R open during their last turn, so they needed to hold back the Hammer lest you burn out the equip target in response.
I totally agree with swapping GSZ and Titan in regards to the ban list. Zenith would allow some cool decks to be built.
26:02 You had 1 mana open. As someone who has played a lot of hammer lately I actually think the opponent's line was correct.
Love modern videos. And appreciate you doing videos while simultaneously doing the spoiler videos. Personally, spoiler videos don't do anything for me so I generally dislike spoiler season since there are less gameplay videos, so just wanted to say I do appreciate you doing both with Alchemy.
On the Modern Ban List Conversation - I think it'd be interesting for WotC to consider Unbanning some old things (Twin, Pod, GSZ, etc) BEFORE they go about banning any of the new cards that are causing Ban chatter (Ragavan, Saga, Murktide, etc). See if any of those balance out & worst case, if it just causes more ruckus, they still have the option to Ban Ragavan, Saga, etc... Good points Seth!
I really like this one! 😲 I might actually make this one and play modern for the first time!
I play a similar deck in Pauper but with madness cards and other filtering spells like faithless looting. It's super fun. Glad to see someone else play a similar list.
For the hammer time matchup - I would have done the same thing as our opponent knowing our deck is chalk full of bolt effects. Once we tapped out it was gg.
But very entertaining games and honestly a cool deck for a hyper powered modern format.
So a friend of mine and myself are getting into pioneer and this video inspired me to adapt the list to pioneer, as most of the cards are pioneer legal. I'm looking at using the blood tokens, and Collective Brutality to turn on madness in order to run Alms to the Vein and Fiery Temper.
Thank you for your content, and I would love to see a blood tokens 2 video sometime in the future.
@34:05 If they forced pitching a card, that would be a zero-mana cast, and they'd get hit for 5 from Vortex. You had 'em both ways
Around 40:00 and discussion of the banlist:
A great example of how stuff changed is the fact that vanifar (I know a creature is easier to remove) didn't become the new birthing pod, and after all the hype, no one plays it
Always a great day when they upload a SaffronOlive video! This deck seems sweet, but I also really like the 12 Whack deck, do they have any upgrade paths? Which one would you recommend as a first deck?
(Sorry for all the questions)
@mtggoldfish Seth rolling vortex deals 5 damage for Force of Negation free cast 😀 honestly my new favorite card in modern. I'm up to 2 main board in the 12 whack list
Thinking about it, I think the amulet is the broken card in amulet titan
LITERALLY none of what just happened can happen if amulet doesn't exist
100%. Ive mastered the deck in the past, and IMO a truly great amulet player will almost always be the best modern player. The reason for that is being able to put together effective kills on turn 3 somewhat consistently with really tight play, and those are always reliant on having 2 amulets. Not saying it should be banned though, its really only 2 amulet games that are unbeatable
@@evankraabel5415 tbh if the argument is we trade amulet for green zenith, I'm totally down for that
100% agree. I think Urza's saga makes amulet too strong as you effectively have 4 extra copies of amulet with suspend that gives mana and bodies.
@@metalking837 As an old time amulet player, its Urza's saga that just makes the deck too good. It makes the easy two amulet I win draws too consistent. Without the amulets it takes super tight play, and even with one amulet its easy to screw up. And seeing how ubiquitous Urza's Saga is throughout the format, I'd rather see that take the ban hammer than amulet
Oh boy do I love damping sphere because I hate titan lol. It's hilarious when a Titan player loses because they casted a Summoners pact and all of a sudden can't pay for it.
At 34:00, this was definitely the correct play; if the opponent would've cast Force, Roiling Vortex would've zapped them for 5 because they would cast a spell without paying mana.
Ingenious list. Loved it and the ban list conversation.
Have you considered Fiery Temper? The blood tokens enable the madness to turn it into another bolt. It might be worth cutting Bump in the Night for this since both have the effect of essentially drawing you another card, but Bump takes 6 mana to to do so versus 2 mana with a blood token + temper
I was thinking the same thing. I mean, if they printed a Lightning Strike that also drew a card it would likely be played quite a bit.
Alms of the Vein could be good too.
Uhhh no Odric? Is it even a real Blood token deck?
No since you don't have Akroma's memorial to give all those sweet abilities to Odric since he got fucked.
Odric is white-red.
@@KynElwynn yes.
@@kristiandahl1310 I’m obsessed with trying to do Odric, memorial, and time sieve 😂😂 bad deck is bad, but it’s be hilarious
We don't have creatures with abilities ;)
whoa, you really went for something else with this deck! Love your brews man
During the Hammer match after you bought Lurrus, you left one red source open, leaving the opponent to take the reserved play of holding the hammer, because +2 life is better than getting blown out and receiving none at all :)
Im pretty sure rolling vortex is like, very good in the hammer matchup. Not siding it in was probably not game losing but still a mistake. Punishes the memnite/thopter and helps with shadowspear. Also consistent damage while youre on the removal plan.
Love this deck, I'd be willing to play modern at this price point. Can't believe the mh1 cycling lands are more expensive than some shocks, they need a reprint.
I think you had it (Roiling) perfect with Roy Ling , great pronounce
I have been playing a version of this deck in pioneer it's a lot of fun, running fiery temper and alms of the vein, bomat courier, and. Insolent Neonate.
Love this deck. I feel Luris is almost a fake out in that they'd expect you to have more creature combos with it.
The Website sez this video is posted tomorrow. Time Travel is weird. Is this Alchemy's doing? ...Lol
*Thanks for the Content* !
Really solid stuff... I've been bs'n on building "a" version of this deck... I think I'll do it now. I have all cards I need too... Will it beat my main deck though....
I'm at the point where I see Shrapnel Blast, and I'm in....that card needs more love
BUDGET MAGIC! My favorite thing!!!
Force of negation pitching tefari to counter sanguine statuette was not what I was expecting to see today. The value difference is hilarious to me in a vacuum
Hmmm, I wonder if there's a Pauper deck hidden here as well. Could be more consistent than mono-R Burn, and you have access to the mono-colored artifact lands as well.
I always love a "Seven bolts by turn 4" kill.
Ooh, BR burn. I've been thinking Gonti's Machinations would be sweet in a burn deck that had lurras as companion.
This was a bloody good video
This s amazing! What would be some upgrades for this build if not on a budget? I really like it
Upgrade lands throw in some swiftspears and bam crazy deck lol
@@rpuffs95mtg89 Is Eidolon of the Great Revel worth it in this deck?
@@Michael-Hammerschmidt I mean probably no Idea tho
@@rpuffs95mtg89 Okay. Thanks for the tips
@@Michael-Hammerschmidt hell yeah no problem tell me how it goes
28:04 *pillar men theme starts playing*
Birthing Pod is a guaranteed kill on turn 3 against the Titan Deck which won't interact with it, FYI.
I play a pauper version of this, it’s a really cool list
On the subject of the modern ban list, I can see an argument for unbanning things like birthing pod, but jeskai twin with T3feri, force of negation, solitude, fury, and prismatic ending just seems like it would be miserable to play against.
More miserable than what already exists?
Hammer time with the rope-a-dope?
Alright stop...... hammer time.
It was right there.
Does Sanguine Statuette create another blood token after it ceases being a 3/3 vampire?
I guess this could be an inspiration for a pauper rakdos bloody burn deck
What would be the upgrade path for this, All I can imagine is making it Mardu to bring in Boros charm. 2 shrapnel, 2 Lightning bolt and one Boros charm = dead.
Everyone loves talking about Seth's punts, but how're we not gonna mention opponent's punt at 27:50? Dragonskull is a strictly better spreading seas target imo
Person: *spends $1,000 on a deck*
Seth with a 10 cent deck: So anyways I started blasting!
I like this deck a lot, it’s pretty sweet
3:41 caught you cussin', Saffron
Love it. Could you make a similar build around treasures?
Could be playing Bomat Courier for more card advantage and to up artifact count.
Got blood?
The deck name in my heart
Hey Seth, please make sure you put the format in the video title. :)
1) Sanguine Statuette seemed really bad to me. You never played it most games. (Maybe 1, but tbh its 1 mana too much).
2) Never waste burn points on a card draw creature. The point is to kill them before it matters. (You didn't kill the Tracker did you?)
Always kill the sentinel never waste burn on a card draw creature is just plain wrong
Looks like Amulet Titan is the new Tron for Seth. Poor lad...
if youre playing tapped lands why not add the red artifacts for extra shrap targets?
With all of the blood tokens, wouldnt Fiery Temper be a fit in this?
Sacrificing the blood tokens for discard is normally a little slow. With that said, rift bolt is also slow, so that might be a reasonable swap. Maybe it’s better than spellbomb or searing blaze in the sideboard when you want to be controlling
@@gastastrophe1092 spellbomb is there specifically as a hate card for auriok champion, a relatively common sideboard card in the current meta that his deck just can't beat otherwise
@@aaronscott7467 also combo with Lurrus
I think it's worth considering. The awkward part is that we often want to leave our Blood tokens on the battlefield to power up Galvanic Blast. Still seems worth testing at least.
Though I was going to see a playset of goblin guides are they not good for this list for some reason or are they still not budget for you guys because we can get a playset for 8€
Seth is playing so fast, you can see the camera blur sometimes trying to keep up with him.
Hey Sath , I was thinking if wizards create a white card that says : whenever a creature you control dealt combate demage to a player , you and that player draw a card . It will be good ?
I had an idea to sac blood tokens to kuldothas rebirth
25:00 Was not a weird slow roll at all lol. You left up a red that turn...opponent was playing around any amount of the infinite 1 mana answers you have to their 1/1 lol
Wouldnt roiling vortex be worth against hammertime for 0 cost memnite and thopter maybe?
Splinter Twin in the old 75 would be fine.
Twin with T3feri, Expressive Iteration, and FoN would be busted
Looking through the ban list there are some cards that are there that are absolutely silly. I knew a guy who was so upset about dark depths cuz it was his favorite. I used to run a delver tempo that was pretty mean. Vapor snag doing work on merit lage.
Seth always sounds so sad when someone ELSE draws a card.
I would appreciate this series a lot more if you played regular lands. Maybe take $X off the cap, however much the lands usually cost, and use decent lands in the games? You could also provide an alternate mana base that is actually budget, ie what youre using here. Im personally pretty interested in how many Drossforge Bridge this deck actually wants, for instance. Or maybe just say that 4 on color shocks dont count towards the budget? I already know that getting mana screwed via taplands blows, thats not something interesting about the deck you built, which is what im actually here for.
The point of the budget videos are to keep them on a budget. Adding expensive lands makes the entire video pointless.
The mana wasn't too bad in this one really. I think the issue is that tier lands cost a lot, and one of the goals of Budget Magic is to make decks that anyone can easily put together. Budget if you have a playset of shocks is tough for new players (even though it would be good for players who already have a decent collection).
@@MTGGoldfish I think what he's going for is that, watching you play a bad mana base isn't what's fun about budget magic, so if you gave a decklist with budget mana, but in the video played a version with good lands, that would be preferable.
@@RasmusVJS what would be. The point of that? It's false advertising. "Hey guys! Check out this new budget deck! We won't be using it though."
Wouldn't this be at least as good in mono red with treasure tokens instead?
A year later and nothing has been banned or unbanned except for the two companions of Yorion and Lurrus which regardless of popular belief barely do anything it's the cards around the companions that were broken. Great job wizards............
We did not get hammered - Seth 2021
I'm so buying this
What’s the non-budget build?
Nothing says budget magic like showcasing beta lightnting bolts, while playing with player rewards ones.
If Goyf went from an $80 creature to $40 and then $15 because of MH1 and MH2 power level then the ban list definitely needs to be reevaluated
what a Bloody good deck =)
When the deck is so cheap you can still run Lurrus as a companion...
Ah yes that moment when you look at your opponent and go yeah I spent less than a Benjamin on this good luck
So what is the interaction between Teferi & Rift Bolt?
A suspended card is cast during your upkeep. T3feri limits opponents to sorcery speed spells. So, a spell coming off suspend simply couldn’t be cast with T3feri out.
Teferi keeps you from playing things at instant speed, since cards come off suspension during your upkeep, they are technically instant speed, so Teferi basically keeps you from suspending (or counters a Rift Bolt that is already suspended). It's not a huge deal (you can hard cast Rift Bolt), but we didn't have much to cut, and I think Rift Bolt was out weakest card in that matchup.
I was trying to get advance on a past deck you did anyone I can get help?
5:30 TFW you 2-for-1 yourself with force of negation to counter a draft uncommon...
Ooh I love blood
On crip?
Broken cards are cards that must be played because, "it's wrong to not play them" and there aren't alternatives. Given that you say Luris doesn't do much here, but it's be wrong not to play it, does that show that it's broken?
Force is only free on opponents turns
No Bomat Courier?
Not enough room :(
Madness? Blood tokens? 🤔
You are the one janking people out, not the other way around.
Burger King Foot Lettuce
Is it just me or is this almost a really good Pauper deck too?
Yeah, it's pretty close to Pauper legal. With a few changes I think it could work.
@@MTGGoldfish Not that Pauper burn is some mysterious new thing, but incidental cards are always nice
does he ever play leagues or events?
Prime Time is just too good in modern now. Titans have always been good, but Primeval has always been the best.
While I agree Prime Time is great, is not the Amulet the greater issue as it allows the untapped karoos for ramp?
@@KynElwynn I think so, Titanshift isn't really a problem.
He couldn't win even with Shrapnel against the Amulet opponent, right? He only had 3 available lands.
Why not play blood fountain?
While it provides artifacts, it does nothing to damage the opponent (And getting Black on turn 1 is a bit harder to do with a budget mana base).
@@jaggededge11 Aha thanks
