"That's his gaming set-up...he plays Fortnite"
Actually this was early 2000, so he was probably playing The Sims. 🙂

S4 was always going to be slightly difficult because The High School years were over, and the show had to find a new direction. Overall I thought it was disappointing compared to other Seasons and felt somewhat disjointed. Adam, even wasn't really a 'Big Bad' compared with the arc of other seasons. That being said, this was an entertaining episode with the big fight towards the end reminiscent of a Bond Film, with lots of people in a massive big fight in a complex with all sorts of weapons etc, but bullets are flying everywhere but nobody getting hit! We see Willow again gaining amazing power, and being able to transfer to Buffy to make her invincible, there were shades here of The Matrix with the slow motion shots and the strange deflection of Adam's attacks. Riley shows great courage to remove the chip from his chest, and when Buffy pulls out Adam's power source we get a great sense of satisfaction. Once again we have an X-FILES type ending where the men discussing closing down The Initiative could easily be Smoking Man and The Syndicate or Assistant Director Skinner and The FBI top brass as a closing X-FILES scene.

"Then we'll learn about it in like 40 years..."
You know, it's roughly 24 years since this episode aired...just saying... 😉

22:30 and 23:22-23:40 There they are. The type of responses I personally wait for with this episode.
The Initiative was never the point of the season, so ending it with n episode to go was something the writing team had no problem with. The Initiative was just an extention of Buffy's part in the colllege distancing in the high school friends trying to keep the group together during college. A very real problem that was the real main theme of the entire season.

The Initiative really seems like it was originally intended to have more of a point, but it got screwed up somehow and the writers just wanted to close the door on it by this point.

@@Talisguy I think it had the same outcome as if Lindsay Crowse had stayed except Adam ran the show instead of her character. I don't believe The Initiative was ever the point. At least not the main one. Especially considering there are only six episode directly about them: _The Initiative, Doomed, The I in Team, Goodbye Iowa, The Yoko Factor,_ and _Primeval._ And even some of those are not directly about them so much as an indirect directly. All other episodes The Initiative is just the minor annoyance in the background either because they don't know what it is or because Buffy's dating Riley.

@@Buffy8Fan I don't think so. I think there are signs that this wasn't originally the plan. Maggie Walsh gets too much setup for the plan to have always been to rush through the Initiative stuff.

@@Talisguy I never said they rushed through the initiative stuff. I said it was never the point. And I don't believe it was whether Walsh was there or Adam took over for her. Considering how many people complain about The Initiative story, it was handled just as it needed to be. As the metaphorical extention of Buffy's colllege experience helping drive a wedge between her and the group. Same as Xander not going to college, Giles being jobless, and Willow's blossoming feelings for Tara. Thus my point on high school friends trying to keep the group together during college.

I’m disappointed. My favorite scene in this episode was when Xander made the suggestion for how to defeat Adam, and this clip left that scene on the cutting room floor.
